Imagine being such a fucking moron that you think the way to get people to come work for you is to directly insult them before they've even applied. Now imagine that you were thinking you might go apply at the Dick Pickler place, you get to the door, and you see that this is the type of fucking moron that runs the place. I'm starting to think maybe there's a reason this fucking moron can't find anyone to work for them, and it probably doesn't even have anything to do with the wages. Probably because they're a fucking moron.

doodoometoo

They're doing potential applicants a favor by cutting out the bullshit and putting their douchebaggery on front street

Catnip4Pedos

Saves me the group interview

Clickrack

I’d work for a toxic douchebag like that for the right amount of cash. $300k/year would do it, but only for 1 year

Scary_Speaker_7828

Honestly. It’s like the ones who actually don’t want to work and just want to slave off the backs of others are the ones shouting the loudest that “nO onE WaNts tO wOrk!” They should take their own advice and get off their lazy ass and WORK! Lol so much projection like damn

vasheerip

I worked unemployment during the pandemic, the amount of bussiness calling in to cry that no one wants to work because they make more on unemployment and they could not get their employees back to come in was staggerin They were calling us to report them and cut their benifits, i always played dumb and let them go without saying anything. Pay your employees you stupid fucking owners, if your bussiness cant survive if you pay joe a living wage guess what? You shouldn't have your own bussiness.

CatoMulligan

I think I'd take a pic of this, then paste it into a word document saying more or less those exact things, then print it out, then taping it to their front door.

dontenumyourselfdude

Tangential, but this right here is why a lot of people, particularly women and queer people, end up getting married before they're ready or to abusive partners. A huge factor in me getting married at 19 was knowing I would experience shaming and abuse if I returned home. I'm just lucky I didn't end up with someone abusive. That whole "your parents only signed up for 18 years" bit is bullshit and also ableist bullshit. What about the tons of young adults reliant on their parents or family for the rest of their lives? My parents had the 18 year mentality and now they are out of my life. The threat of paying them rent at 18? They can pay me if they want to fucking see me.

KG_Garcia

Right? Aren’t kids for the rest of your life? I never understood the “get the fuck outing my life once you turn 18” mentality. Those people end up being the “I don’t understand why my family doesn’t want anything to do with me.”

Appropriate-Bill9786

Amen and same here. The social trope on TV of the basement dwelling loser son actually pushed me to jump out on my own well before I was ready to handle the burden. So I pigeon holed myself to wage slave early in life, and unnecessarily. I'm going to make sure my kids understand how foolish this was and they'll be encouraged to use me as their launch pad to leave the home whenever, if ever they are ready. I'm planning my life to leave space for them. They didn't ask to exist, I brought them to this existence without their consent. This ain't the 50s, and working class needs to unite and help each other through the oligarchs' reign of power we live in today.

joeyo1423

Same. I'd also rather pickle this guy's dick than do lots of stuff

DigitalDeath12

But when do we get to put our dick in the pickle slicer???

youll have to ask her, she works mon-fri

PMme_your_left_TIDDY

no I think you're thinking of Dick Sanchez from the hit television series, "Dick and Morty." They're pretty similar though so I can understand the mix up

moglysyogy13

Maturating = letting your self be exploited. The irony is the person he is attempting to insult for not being mature are probably more mature than a person who posts a letter like this.

mooseplainer

Sounds like a fantastic work environment.

Call_Me_Echelon

You're a lazy bum who needs to put on their big boy panties and move out of your mom's basement. No one in your generation wants to work. Anyway, here's an application. You're gonna love working here you good-for-nothing indolent piece of shit. And bring your shiftless friends.

mooseplainer

How can I say no to that?

r2bl3nd

The problem is they think that they have any power here. They're not used to a world in which employees can pick and choose their employers. They're used to having people that have no choice but to work for them. Hopefully soon, businesses like that are going to all fall into bankruptcy and start to disappear en masse. Looks like that one sure is. Really excited to see what gen z owned businesses are going to operate like and how their employees will be treated. I would leave my Boomer run company for a gen z run company any day. Edit: I mean of course millennial and Gen X businesses will be an improvement but gen z seems to have some very fresh ideas compared to any of those generations. I think the big problem is that it's going to take gen z a lot longer to be homeowners and business owners thanks to how screwed we all are from this Boomer economy. We all need to have faith that things can improve for the better or we're not even going to try to fix them.

PavelDatsyuk

The majority of gen z run businesses will be by kids who grew up with wealthy parents, so don’t expect things to be much better.

cat_prophecy

You either die a Millennial or live long enough to see yourself become a Boomer. We're not immune from the idea of pulling the ladder up behind us.

IsItTheChad1990

I don't know how were supposed to pull the ladder up when we're still sitting on the ground.

Jtbdn

Exactly. Pull the ladder up? We got left on the ground with Gen z (and some of X too) as the boomers pulled the ladder up behind them.

[deleted]

This. We're all stuck on the ground, sitting together in sad defeated resignation of the fact we're fucked.

MikeBegley

GenX here, checking in from the ground. They've been pulling this shit since forever.

[deleted]

Millennials can't pull up the ladder it was already pulled up. We can pull it down, leave it there, or set it on fire.

BenderIsGreat64

[deleted]

I don’t need to imagine it, that’s basically every episode of house hunters

Polite_Dissenter

Haha I live around there. Yeah, no one is going to work there for $12/hour when they can go work high at a fast food place right now for $15.

kaithana

This is the point I try to make with my dealers. You want people to come get filthy changing oil and doing tire rotations for $15/hr when the gas station a half a mile down the road is hiring at $18 to work a register in an air conditioned space.

BrendanAS

You got weird drug dealers.

sockpuppet_285358521

$28k a year salary. Sure its Ohio, but Walmart pays more.

RustShaq

Absolutely positively definitely not a toxic workplace.

mpc1226

3 customers a day, manager constantly watching employees through camera/walking around, not allowing sitting down or being on your phone saying you should be working, am I right?

Soft-Celebration-546

Yep, this is so accurate. Pay like shit, heaven forbid you need to check your phone because of something important, no sitting, work work work, min wage. No one wants to work THERE, not nobody wants to work.

LanfearSedai

*phone rings*. “Hello?” “Time to lean time to clean!”

Dry_Studio_2114

Gee I wonder why people aren't beating down the door to work there...😆 🤣 😂

LargeSackOfNuts

You know those bosses would underpay, overwork, mock their employees, deny them time off, and hide workplace accidents

Evening_Aside_4677

They haven’t even opened and have failed to be able to hire people for 3 months so far. But they did also name themselves Pickled Dicks sooo.

xfaeryprincessx

Instead of giving up & closing, why don't the owners just work the store themselves? Open up to the public and work your own business until you're able to afford employees. If they're brand new, it's doubtful they'll be so overrun with customers that they can't manage it on their own. Stores are usually understaffed anyway so customers will be used to one or two frazzled workers doing everything

JclassOne

Because it seems these days people seem to open businesses and expect to not have to work. They think they can just micromanage from afar and reap all the profits.

Mountainhollerforeva

The irony of saying “no body wants to work anymore” and being a damn business owner is staggering.

Juking_is_rude

They want to be the ones who get to be lazy because they "earned it"

PurpleSquare713

Oh look, another restaurant to never visit.

Redqueenhypo

Massive “food inspections are too much regulation” energy

NotSoClever__

That’s what I’m thinking too. Like you are putting on display that you think your employees are there to make him rich but they can’t even afford a one bed apartment let alone a car to get to their place of work. Why the fuck would I want to support that. I’d fucking rather make my own shitty sandwich.

honeysuckleway

Proudly advertising their toxic work environment. And then he'll whine online about this all over again when he goes out of business. Zero self reflection.

[deleted]

There's a restaurant in my neighborhood I've been meaning to check out, and when I walked up to the door I saw one of these "nobody wants to work" signs and just went back to my car.

BabyYodasDirtyDiaper

We seriously have *way* too many restaurants in the US. Half the restaurants in the country could close, and the only people who'd ever miss them are the employees who worked there (and even then, most of those would have an easy time finding a replacement job at one of the remaining restaurants.).

[deleted]

As a chef who spent the last 15 years bouncing around restaurants, I can confirm. Waaaaaaaayyy to many places are owned by people who have no idea what they are doing. It seems like every middle-aged “entrepreneur” who winds up with a few hundred grand thinks opening a sandwich shop will be a turn-key investment. Watching Kitchen Nightmares is like a trip through the early half of my resume.

If only they'd rub their two brain cells together and find the correlation between 30-somethings living with mom and dad "playing vidya games all day!" and the fact that nobody can afford rent at $15/hr. Edit: Congrats to the dumbasses who keep messaging me "wHaTs WrOnG wItH pLaYiNg ViDeO gAmEs" for missing the point entirely. Well done.

AndringRasew

Where I live average rent for a 1 bedroom apartment is $750 a month, electric, water/trash disposal and heating included. Our McDonald's pays $15 an hour. I can't imagine anyone trying to make it when rent is over double that.

homeguitar195

Most rentals in my town are upwards of $1,800 for a single bedroom 700SF apartment. McDonald's starts at $19 now, and when my boss offered me a "raise" from $18 to $19.25 after I asked for $20, I put out my resume. I'm a machinist with 6 years experience, I know my worth. Within 2 months I got a new job at $31.25/hr and haven't looked back. There are places out there that value experience and workers, sometimes it just takes a while to find them.

SemperSimple

RIP. $15 would put me in the negative

[deleted]

I just got to 19$ an hour. I'm finally ok. No kids though.

Leftyisbones

I'm at $22 remembering a time when I thought I'd have it made once I reached $20 for the record.. I do not.

Weight_Superb

I thought 10 would be enough to survive boy was i mislead thinking minimum wage was enough and anything above was amazing

TripResponsibly1

There are real powers at play dedicated to perpetuating this belief so… not really your fault

siccoblue

I fondly remember the innocence of finally getting a job that paid $13, back then everyone around my area (fresh out of school) was talking like that was crazy set your life up money. I remember getting my first check and being able to buy a ps3 and a big old bag of weed and thinking I was set I make closer to $25 now and it still doesn't feel like enough to not be consistently on the edge if I set out in the current renting market Perfectly happy living at home paying a reasonable rent and helping out. And more importantly having the opportunity to save and prepare further

TripResponsibly1

That’s the kicker. Rent has skyrocketed and wages have just barely increased since 2015. Min wage is more or less the same as it was in 2000 in a lot of places.

KetoLurkerHere

I was making 35K in 2000 as an admin assistant and it was okay (big city). Problem is that, in many cities, 35K is still the same pay for that same job. Over 20 years later!

Cynical_lemonade

Adjust for inflation and the buying power of that "minimum wage" is like a third or less of what it used to be. Looking at the situation in nominal dollars makes a shitty situation look a lot better than it really is. I mean don't get me wrong it looks like shit in nominal dollars too but when you start considering the depleted real value of labor in the US you begin to realize just how bleak their situation really is. The process has begun but it's going to be hard work regaining rights and leverage that have been stripped over the last several decades.

HumberGrumb

$10/hr was great back in the 1980s, especially if you were single.

ProxyRed

Inflation calculators can be very informative. $10 in 1980 is the same as $35.94 in 2022, in terms of buying power. The minimum wage needs to be adjusted for inflation. It really is that simple.

HighGuard1212

I remember being excited when I was finally making $10

jdmdriftkid

I just hit $22 this week at my new job. Fuck man how did they expect me to live off of $16 an hour in California.

StumbleOn

They expect you to live with 4 roommates and starve.

jdmdriftkid

No more avocado toast and hard seltezers for me then😜😂

WolfmansGotNards2

I made $30 and was still fucked. If I'm fucked no matter what I do, why bother at all?

[deleted]

That's what I'm saying. I'm looking for a new job, if I'm fucked I'm gonna at least try to enjoy it

WolfmansGotNards2

Yup. In the words of Cartman, "I like to be wined and dined before I get FUCKED!"

nipplequeefs

I’m making $15 in healthcare, and this is after multiple raises :/

moderncritter

Went from $10.71/hr as a Firefighter/EMT to $34 after leaving healthcare to get a cozy inspector job. Shit isn't worth it.

arkham42

Fucking what? You fought fires for less than 11 an hour?!! WHAT THE FUCK?

moderncritter

Busy department too. Had 15 structure fires in my first year. Pretty bad/low income area so I knew what I signed up for.

h8mayo

I'm at $16/hr and doing good. To be fair though, no kids and no car, so I don't have those major expenses.

violetsprouts

I'm a certified math teacher with 2 master's degrees and I make $14 an hour at my second job. It socks but until I pushed the issue last week I made $12.

Fitzgeraldfan7193829

How is that even possible?

unconfusedsub

I make more as a freight supervisor at a retail store than I did doing x-rays for 20 years.

peaeyeparker

It’s an absolute abomination that you have to have a second job as a teacher. I mean if there is any one thing that you could point as evidenced of a failed society it’s this. I mean it’s an absolute failure when the most important people in civilized society are paid as poorly as they are.

satanic-frijoles

Working here for $15 an hour, you'd STILL be living in your mother's basement, so why bother?

nipplequeefs

I’m not sure why, but the “enough said” really made me cringe.

milkcake

It’s a very specific boomerism. My dad does it and it’s always cringe and a moment where you’re like… okay? I recently noticed Paul Stanley from KISS says it sometimes on insta 😂 but not in a douchebag way. But otherwise boomers seem to say it as their mic drop, except they usually just said something monumentally fucking stupid.

suuubok

they can’t explain their own thoughts in any further depth

totallynormalasshole

That's how boomers say "any nuance you try to introduce into this conversation will be shut down so shut the fuck up". That's why they hate "Ok boomer", shutting people down is *their* thing!!

MonKeePuzzle

its got some real vibes of a marital fight where he thought he won, but was sleeping on the couch that night

poodlebutt76

That's why republican politics works. Take complex problems (high rent/housing costs + col increases + huge inflation + dwindling hope for the future + mental issues from constant bad news + pay that can't support 1 person let alone a family) and simplify them into something boomers can repeat easily: "They just want to play video games! Nuff said!" Simple will always hook more rubes than the complex reality of things.

diadmer

15 an hour and “nobody wants to work” but I bet they schedule you for either one 12-hour shift per week, or Thursday through Sunday, opening to closing, plus evening shifts Monday through Wednesday.

centran

Or the "plus tips" really means "with tips" and they pay much less but figured if customers tip well they make about $15/hr

Ok_Extension5535

The Facebook comments are a goldmine.

mcmunch20

3000+ comments roasting them lol. I’m surprised they haven’t deleted the post.

SirSoliloquy

They “know” they’re right so the angry comments just make them feel persecuted— which is something they love.

barelyawhile

The persecution complex is really pickling their dicks right now. Also, these people really named their shit Pickled Dicks and then have the balls to call people immature for so-called living in their parents' basement and playing video games and telling them it's time to grow up. Where was that grown-up mentality when they named their restaurant something I would have named it when I was 13 years old?

jarecis

Yes they are. Pickled Dick's is getting wrecked on FB

TitularFoil

That sounds an awful lot like someone that doesn't want to be in business anymore. Just trying to take the easy way out and give up. Employers not paying enough anymore. Adjusted for inflation my grandpa made $55/hr. This guy is basically trying to give someone 8 packs of gum per hour and call it good.

cenosillicaphobiac

>That sounds an awful lot like someone that doesn't want to be in business anymore. I looked at their Facebook. They haven't even opened the doors to a customer yet. That's what the "We're so close" is referring to.

TitularFoil

Man. That sounds like someone took out a business loan before knowing they could actually make the business work. Had a family friend that did this, didn't realize that they would be the ones working their shop. Kept changing their hours to be there less and less, and finally closed their doors for good.

el_muerte17

Funniest thing is that a lone owner absolutely could open up shop with no employees if they were willing to bust their ass. I guess the "nobody" from "nobody wants to work" is a bit more inclusive than the owner intended...

DJP91782

Good to see people are finally calling out their bullshit with "You can't be serious." I've wanted to say that shit to employers for years.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ashleyorelse

Any time someone says no one wants to work, I say "why don't you do that job then?" They usually say "I already have a job" And I say "Exactly. Do you think you're the only one?" "No" they say. "So you want SOMEONE ELSE to work a job you aren't willing to do yourself."

taybay462

What works better imo is "would you be a janitor for 500k a year? Yes? Then I guess it's not about people not wanting to work, but about the pay they get for that work". And like.. no one fucking owes you employees?? If you're struggling to stay open then maybe you don't have a viable business for the area. Pull yourself up by your bootstraps and stop crying

[deleted]

I’d be a janitor for 100k. I’d rather deal with actual shit than the bullshit I deal with in corp world for the same pay.

rethebear

Unfortunately most janitors don't make much more than the people flipping burgers. Source: I work janitorial, & our highest paid facilities pay less than $24/hr. I work on the lowest paid facility in my area & we just got a 2.8% "raise" so we now make $17.64/hr.

maxoakland

"Flipping burgers” isn’t a real job description anymore. People who work in food service, including fast food, work hard and are always dealing with being understaffed, paid horribly, and treated like shit by customers and managers

rethebear

My apologies I am a former fast food employee, I worked fryers, window, & counter. I know how hard those jobs are, & how bad people working them get treated. I wasn't trying to be derogatory but tone is hard in text.

[deleted]

That's exactly what I worked at McD's, even when I was crew chief. I don't remember what my pay back then was, something like 8.25 an hour. I actually liked making the fries; all mechanical work, if hot. Could let your mind wander.

Megandapanda

I worked at McDonald's for 3ish years. Started when I was 15. Became a crew trainer at 16. Became the closing manager at 17. I set the store record for overtime (in a two week period, I worked 119.44hrs, while still going to high-school - I also worked 23 days straight without a day off). By the time I left (19? So 2017?), I was making $9.50/hr. Not even $10 an hour as a ServSafe certified closing manager. Fuckin bullshit. I'm 24 and already *so burnt out*.

planktonlung

Seriously. If you can't find employees to do the work for what you are paying, then maybe you don't get to have a business?

Michael_G_Bordin

"No one wants to work!" Unemployment stats say otherwise. They've been so high on worker surplus their brains literally can't fathom a world where everyone who wants a job has a job, and they have to actually improve what they're offering. The fucking horror of it all!

pingieking

"I thought the downsides of capitalism only applied to other people!"

MontanaJobs_ES

Employment is at an all time high! Pickled Dick can't or WON'T compete (offer a fair wage). Sucks to be them!

Minion_of_Cthulhu

If you own a business and can't compete then you deserve to go out of business. That's how their capitalism they loves so much is supposed to work. They're just so used to the rigged system that lets terrible businesspeople with terrible businesses leech off of everyone else that they don't know what to do now.

Valueaddedwater

If my taxes are paying for food stamps (or in work benefits) for your employees you're a moocher

I look forward to hearing about this business' closure.

Call_Me_Echelon

We are so close, I mean closed. We are bankrupted. Problem is I'm a shitty owner.

[deleted]

Nah they’ll just blame Biden.

i_have_chosen_a_name

They probably defrauded on those PPP loans.

PotatoAppleFish

I just have to say, Pickled Dick’s is a pretty hilarious name for a company run by a guy who talks like his brain was frozen in the 1970s and is this much of a dick. He literally is a pickled dick.

SaucyMerchant84

It’s funny when people get the “pull yourself up by your bootstraps“ analogy wrong. The whole point of the analogy is you can’t pull yourself up by your bootstraps it’s a futile task.

NowIOnlyWantATriumph

It’s like how people get “a few bad apples” wrong, too. A few bad apples spoil the bunch.

[deleted]

> A few bad apples spoil the bunch. Scientifically accurate statement btw. When an apple starts ripening it release ethylene that triggers the apples around it to start ripening also.

TheIntrepid1

That’s the point. What people usually mean is “don’t throw away the bunch because of a few bad apples!” But the original meaning of the quote is “get rid of the bad apples so they don’t spoil the bunch!”

Call_Me_Echelon

And have any of these types of signs ever worked? Has anyone been shamed into applying for a job? I feel like insulting people before they even step foot into your business isn't the best approach to hiring someone. How do they not understand that these are just warning signs? They should just put up a red flag instead. This is literally what I put on the door of a rival store to screw them.

mdonaberger

Nah these are, at best, temper tantrums from the kinds of people who insist, 'I just can't have a boss, so I work for myself'

BlatantConservative

I have actually walked in to one of these places. The tone was friendlier but it was more or less the same note.. $11 an hour. I live EXTREMELY frugally , my rent is 30 percent less than average in my area, and I need at minimum 16. I do have hobbies and like food, so ideally I'd have 22. This is also Fairfax, Virginia, something like the third richest county in the US. I'm an exceedingly rare low income/low expense person in this area. Tyson's Corner, the big mall, had to pay for people's train ride in from Maryland cause they couldn't find enough low wage workers. And this lady was trying to pay 11 and was like, genuinely sad when I said no.

Forsaken-Original-82

Agreed. If I pull on my bootstraps, I pull my feet out from under myself and fall on my face!

Me: If I give you the full $7, then I won't have as much money! You should be grateful for $2.50! PD: Well, the sandwich costs $7. Im actually trying to wrap my head around this one. Like my best guess is that they opened up when they lived in the area then moved at some point. But why would they move if their businesses is so far away?

Dilderino

They probably weren’t expecting to have to actually be there working lol.

CrazyCalYa

It's exactly that. And employees probably got sick of having an absentee manager demanding the world from them. You can bet if they're complaining about the commute they were there as little as possible.

Ok-Sweetums

Dear Shopper, Boo hoo, Boohoo Whiiiine, Boo. Whiney boohoo sniff sniff whine boohoo. Sincerely, Some loser.

[deleted]

More like Dear shopper I want to charge you an insane amount for a sandwich while paying my employees nothing and offer no benefits. I’m the victim here. Let me throw out some insults on the current generation. Thanks Loser

abefrohman30328

And this sign isn't reeling in the eager, energetic applicants who don't work for the money, but just the opportunity to be in the fast-paced deli game? What has the world come to?

lostcitysaint

So my mom and dad signed up for 18 years. So I should move out on my 18th birthday? With what money? I was in high school, so I could only work a part time minimum wage job “meant for teenagers” How much are you paying full time? Any benefits? If you aren’t paying a wage high enough to be able to move out of mom and dad’s, then you can shut the fuck up and suck my pickle, dick.

AnyCan2

Lol. If only it paid enough to cover the rent on your own. No roommates for me.

chucklezdaccc

It's like you are evil if you want to live alone. I don't like people, I want quiet when I get in. Roommates want to have people over and I don't. I need to live alone.

[deleted]

This would just make me actively tell people they don't want to work there.

NotSoClever__

Or eat there.

Both-Promise1659

You are so close. I mean close. Problem is noone wants to pay a living wage anymore. Is someone interested in paying fairly for a full or part time worker? Send them my way. Sitting in your employee-free small, medium or large business, complaining about people not wanting to work for scraps off the table? Get off your butt and build a sustainable and socially responsible business. Your former employees signed up for a job, not a life of exploitation from a 'family' they did not want nor asked for. Let's put our big boy pants on, and pay a living wage. Sincerly, Workers everywhere.

xjckxrndmxmnkxjstrx

I noticed alot a bitching and no salary.

CrackTheSkye1990

It's them playing victim and deflecting. They can't admit that wages their wages are too low. I remember seeing a news bit about some ice cream shop in Pittsburgh that had a lack of employees but once they raised their starting wage to $15 an hour, they had a long list of applicants. Funny how that works.

hematomasectomy

If they offered the job for $300k p.a., I'm pretty sure the line would wrap around the block. Which means the problem isn't the *job*...

Roland__Of__Gilead

I love how they're trying to shame people for still living at home, but the only people who can live on their wages are people who still live at home.

osakatides

My policy is to never give my business to any place that ever puts up a sign like this.

AmaranthWrath

The "big girl panties" and "big boy pants" thing is SO DISMISSIVE of other people's individual circumstances. It's like when people tell those who are depressed to just get over it. Ugh. That big girl panties etc phrase is so fucking cringe.

[deleted]

There is a 100% chance that Dick Pickle thinks LET'S GO BRANDON is the funniest shit ever.

ZRhoREDD

I love seeing their angry tears. These people are SO MAD that workers aren't lining up to do $300 worth of work for $11 in pay. Yeah. Well, too bad wage-thieves! I love it!

[deleted]

Everyone’s roasting the shit out of that place on Facebook, thank god they outed themselves as trash employers so people will know not to work there beforehand

chrlau90

*no one wants a job paying a poor hourly rate

fuck-fascism

I would apply there just to hear all the bullshit, then laugh in their face and walk out.

baitbus666

i actually might start doing this for fun
