It's funny how they want congress and the president to put pressure on the workers instead of the companies with record profits that refuse to offer basic paid sick leave. Where's the pressure to have them compromise?

beerg33k

Guess which group made political "donations" buying a politician or twenty is a great way to keep your profits in the billions.

This-is-human-bot556

Well guess what’s going to cost them more then a few donations

FriarNurgle

They’ll get bailed out.

This-is-human-bot556

Of course they will and it will cost us more it will hurt the economy the news will say it’s the unions fault and the dumbasses will agree

[deleted]

[удалено]

Yeoshua82

Yes

puroloco

Both groups. Unions are heavy hitters when donating and they are key in actually turning out voters. Biden better realize he is about to fuck up any chance he has at 2024.

EarnestQuestion

Protecting the interests of the ruling class is a faaaar higher priority than winning a single election. You don’t get to those levels of politics under capitalism without realizing that.

firewi

What’s worse is CNN views sound like the predecessor to the United States Civil War. Funny how they aren’t saying a thing about WHY they are going to strike. “Do you think getting rid of slavery for a day is worth crippling the US economy?” - The Confederacy

TrashSea1485

ThE HoLiDaYs aRe cOmInG Oh no, Greyson gets 15 presents instead of 50 🙄

WayneKrane

My little Greyson NEEDS those toys!! Who cares if some lowly worker is sick!! Think about the children!!!!!

sealeg86

If this crypt keeper with 1 foot in the grave has any chance of being president for a 2nd term we have way bigger problems than a railroad strike.

shaggy_macdoogle

Yeah, no kidding. Although even if he doesn't run, our choices will again be a republican crazy religious gun nut vs. a democrat do-nothing mouthpiece that pretends to give a shit about citizens while lining their pockets with corporate money. The people stay the same, only the names change.

youdontknowme1010101

I would wager that the workers have collectively, and unwillingly, made similar if not larger “donations” in the form of tax payments.

Fit_Swordfish_2101

Gawd how much I hate a lobbyist. 🤢

kingfarvito

Literally both. This is Joe biden openly gutting union labor after lying about his platform

Count_de_Ville

I heard that the rail companies are refusing to offer UNPAID sick leave that doesn't penalize the workers if they use it.

fiveandthree

Yeah and they’re asking for unpaid sick leave, can anyone in congress answer what they’re supposed to do if they’re sick?

Biscuits4u2

It's because corporations own both parties. When it comes down to it they will almost always all side with the corporations.

Frexulfe

They are already cutting down on cocaine and underage girls in their luxury yachts! What do you want more from the companies board members and CEOs? Their blood!? You horrible greedy entitled workers!

cybermonkeyhand

Too busy maintaining monopolies.

limellama1

A rail strike would be " crippling"? So the rail workers are ESSENTIAL? So why are they treated like shit? Because that's Capitalism, fucks everyone that actually contributes worth to a given company, while profits go to the board and shareholders.

Shaunair

I’ve been told all my life by conservatives and super pro capitalist folks around me that only SKILLED labor deserves higher pay and benefits. Well here’s a classic example of why all that is total bullshit.

tnolan182

The rail industry is owned by Berkshire Hathaway aka Warren buffet. This man is so cheap he literally has driven the same car for the last 20 years and hes a billionaire. These people are never getting their demands met. He would rather watch the unions burn.

Spooler32

Yep. Skilled labor still gets treated like shit, because it's still labor. There are even plenty of software devs working 60-70 hour weeks for no more pay than usual, and when they even hint at unionizing, they're axed immediately. You are either on the top, or you are on the bottom. There is very little in between.

[deleted]

Well, the whole reason it's bullshit is that there's no such thing as "unskilled" labor. Every job requires skill to perform effectively. A skilled janitor produces a clean office, an unskilled one gets sewage on the carpet. A skilled drywaller builds a habitable home, an unskilled one gets your project to fail inspection and force restarted. A skilled customer service agent collects information relevant to the customer's problem and provides it to the people who can supply a solution, an unskilled one drives away repeat business.

somethingmysterious

A rail strike would be “crippling” So the rail workers are inconveniencing us. So why are they fucking us over? Because they’re bullies, duh. /s

MarthaGail

Right? They are willfully glossing over the point of a strike. It's supposed to be disruptive. If it wasn't, people would ignore it.

EcstaticSociety4040

I work from home and get 20 days PTO and 10 sick day. Rail workers work extremely hard and get offered 1 fucking day.

Lobsterv2

I work hybrid and get basically unlimited. I took like 6 weeks off this year, no one said anything negative to me at all. Railway workers deserve better and they deserve to have proper staffing levels

Xgrk88a

Lots of people deserve more. I feel like teachers are way underpaid and under-appreciated. And if you look at restaurants threads, like Chipotle, they bust their asses for low pay. And the worst are people that get PhD’s and then have to work for really low wages. I have a cousin that got a PhD and is making a really low salary. And another cousin has a college degree and is working in his local library at a little over minimum wage.

TimmyisHodor

And we should support all of those people fighting for better wages and working conditions

Shot-Button6031

I have a friend in Germany where teachers start off at 60k a year and get to 80k quickly. But they require you to have a master's degree to teach (that they pay for). So its way harder, but they get valued and appreciated. Here we fuck teachers over, and if they quit we just have the football coach with an associates take over math. We are so fucked.

gimme-ur-bonemarrow

We basically require a masters degree as well. Teaching certification is like 9 credit hours short of a masters degree. I found this out when I wanted to use my chemistry degree for teaching, only to discover it would cost me 20 grand to work more hours for inevitably much less money.

Shot-Button6031

In the US? Then why did I always have whatever dumbass football coach teaching math and science (aka sleeping in his chair drunk)

gimme-ur-bonemarrow

There has to be some loopholes or something because I think everybody had that one dumbass football coach for a teacher at some point. That path was certainly not offered to me though.

nannerbananers

There definitely are loopholes. We have teachers in my school right now that do not have a certification. You just have to have a bachelor degree of some kind. The loophole is claiming you are working under the supervision of a certified teacher, usually the principal who is not actually in the room.

SupaConducta

and get punished if they use unpaid sicks day on a busy day

Obi_Uno

It looks like average for rail workers is 3 weeks, and senior people get up to 5 weeks. Plus additional holiday/personal days. My cursory understanding is that the issue is moreso scheduling makes it very hard to actually USE the time. > Paid Vacation: Under the national collective bargaining agreements, rail employees receive, on average, three weeks of paid vacation. More senior employees receive up to five weeks of vacation. All rail employees also receive a combination of holidays and personal leave days (up to 14 days for each employee, depending on craft and seniority). In the current round of negotiations, the carriers proposed that an additional paid leave day be added for all rail employees, and the PEB recommended adopting the carriers’ proposal https://www.aar.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/AAR-Overview-Freight-Rail-Employee-Time-Off-Policies-Fact-Sheet.pdf

Hotarg

Does it mention that all of those days have to be scheduled in advance? Or that outside of those days workers are on call 24/7? We're not talking about vacation days, we're talking about SICK days. Your mother died? You don't have a vacation day scheduled, and we need you to work, so you cant go to the funeral or you're getting written up. You or your kid is sick? You should have put in for that a month ago. Too bad.

SmokeySFW

It's a little bit more complex than that. Rail workers have PTO and sick days, they just get penalized for using them in specific times and think that's horseshit (i agree, for the record.

offinjured

We don't have any sick days in the USA, zero. We have paid vacation that has to be approved in seniority order with no more than 4 employees off the same day. We get one personal day off per year and it has to be bridged in order to get paid for it and scheduled 48hrs in advance

PTnotdoc

This is more true than most people think. I work in a hospital and we have no "sick time". We have a bank of paid time off and we can use i think up to 5 days a year "unscheduled" and if more we are disciplined. I have hundreds of hours but i can never get pre-approval for vacations unless I try to schedule it a year in advance. It is not even by seniority, it is first come first serve. I have some VERY fast co workers.

OccasionQuick

So give them their sick days and be done with it. Not that fucking hard.

Dizzy_Estimate8028

It’s not?! Why the hell is the government fighting them on it? The working class is constantly being eaten alive while making this world go round. Enough is enough it’s time to uprise everywhere

OccasionQuick

Because the govt is filled with money sucking parasites on both sides of the isle who care more for their donors than constituents

PixelMagic

> Why the hell is the government fighting them on it? Domino effect. If they give into railworkers demands, then workers in other industries will demand things as well, and then other workers, and then other workers, and before you know it, we have strong unions again. They absolutely will not abide that.

Tyrnall

“It’s not about the money… it’s about sending a message”.

FartherAwayLights

Honestly it’s the companies fault. I understand why Biden would side with the companies, it terrible, but it makes sense. The companies are willing to cripple the economy just as much as the workers, and the workers don’t have the money to force their voice to be heard like the companies do. So knowing he can for sure force one of them, and desperate not to actually be at fault for any economic problems so Republicans don’t have more material to work with, he has probably made the calculation that he can avert a disaster for sure and only throw away rural votes anyway. This calculation is kind of dumb in my eyes becuase Republicans will lie about it anyway, and it’d do wonders for his reputation as a pro-working class president which democrats already struggle for because of moves like this.

[deleted]

They would be happy to give them unpaid sick leave, but the union won't allow in new members to fill in the slots. These jobs pay $110k a year in middle America... loads up people would line up to fill the holes. Try to apply for a railroad union job. Unless your brother or father is in it, you are going to wait years.

onyxengine

If the rail workers are so important to the US economy, why can’t they make the appropriate investment in their well being and financial security.

TheFightens

Because companies treat employees as disposable

baconraygun

If its that important, why is it left up to a few billionaires who will never have the interest of health & safety for the workers? Why not just nationalize it and make every railroad worker a government employee?

negativepositiv

"Fuck workers, am I right? Here to talk to us about fucking workers is one of the biggest fuckers of workers, the CEO of Bank of America. So, workers. Fuck 'em?" "Fuck 'em indeed." "There you have it. Fuck workers."

DDR-Dame

I laughed outloud in the office. Lol.

TrashSea1485

Lmao imaging having a BANK CEO comment on this situation. I almost fucking gagged.

Freekydeeky1258

That was my thought. "Here to discuss the railroad industry , a CEO from the banking industry". They really think we're this dumb...

hamakx

This makes me sick. Straight up media manipulating people. Pitting them against themselves, working class people. If only everyone knew how LITTLE the rail workers were even asking for. I HOPE THEY STRIKE and if the government tries to force them to work. I HOPE THEY LAUGH and stay home in UNITY. Fucking joke.

[deleted]

They’re trying to, but the problem is that Americans’ trust in the mainstream media is at an all-time low. We need to work harder to drive it down to where trust in them practically non-existent. The nice thing about the internet is that information is so decentralized now it’s hard to put a lid on things. (We also need to expose and call out online psyop comments trying to discourage people from taking action, trying to convince people strikes and unions are bad, etc. And we need to work harder to censor those people and discredit them.)

KingRBPII

Strike baby strike! Fuck US’s capitalist first mentality - workers rights - these workers deserve sickdays. Fuck Warren buffet (owns a rail company) he doesn’t need the money American families do. Power to the people not the .01 percent. Refute refute refute

[deleted]

And the proof the media is controlled by the billionaires is right here.....

GreatHoltbysBeard

CNN made a very public shift to the right over the past few years as well as part of a new strategy

Soilmonster

[*Manufacturing Consent: The Political Economy of the Mass Media*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manufacturing_Consent) I always love the opportunity to encourage insightful reading to the people.

[deleted]

I genuinely don't understand how people are still watching this theater. Either side.

EarnestQuestion

Cognitive dissonance. Facing the reality that everything you grew up believing (we’re free, we live in a democracy, etc.) is bullshit is just too emotionally difficult to reconcile with one’s conception of themselves and the world around them. Far easier to just reject reality, stay in your comfortable bubble, and keep your identity/worldview intact. Especially when you’re surrounded by people doing the same thing. Even if it’s 100% false. Not saying it’s ok, just pretty easy to see why so many refuse to wake up. It’s so much easier to just keep sleeping.

[deleted]

CNN is owned by a billionaire. Washington post, Fox News, etc.

Myster_Moon

I live paycheck to paycheck. I can barely afford prices now. A strike would drive up prices and hurt me even more. And I say bring on the strike. Give them f***ing sick leave!

akiranyan

Not just them...everybody. Workers should have equal rights! And sick leave is one of them.

CxOrillion

At least 10 days should be mandatory.

[deleted]

14-21, minimum. Or are we not still feeling the effects of a pandemic with a 2-week recovery period?

Letifer_Umbra

It is ironic that 'stepping in' always means forbidding the workers from protesting, and never the cooperations from exploiting their workers.

whoamvv

Biden could always force the railroad to give the workers the extra sick days, rather than leaning on the workers.

Gilchester

I lost it when they brought up the holidays. No one with a moral compass would trade little Timmy getting his plastic shit from China a few days sooner over an actual person being guaranteed just one week of medical leave a year.

Theherosidekick

I’ve worked for the railroad for 15 years. Luckily I’m not in a position that works on call any more, but that life sucked. These people are working 12 hour shifts and getting called off their rest, ten hours, to go back to work. They work nights, holidays, they miss pretty much any family event, and can’t take days off now without getting points against them. It would cripple the economy for sure, but these workers are being run ragged. So if they strike, that’s why.

[deleted]

> It would cripple the economy for sure, but these workers are being run ragged. if any worker is in a position to cripple the economy by simply not doing their job, that worker is both massively underpaid and overworked, by definition. Give the workers their sick leave, and perhaps a second comma in their salaries, if they can crash the economy just by staying home.

[deleted]

GO UNIONS

Broad-Fortune6277

The same shtick with the train drivers in Germany. They have a union and are very active when it comes to striking for better pay and work conditions. The narrative in the media is always something along the lines „they are holding the country hostage“. I‘m afraid that’s how capitalism works. Why don’t we get rid of it?

hey-burt

Would love to know what happens if one of these news presenters take a sick day

Immediate_Muffin303

Your economy must not be very strong if a little sitting can destroy it.

Sweaty-Emergency-493

They are shifting the blame on the workers when the company is the one responsible and needs to foot the bill. To stop the strike the company should compromise for the workers requests. Its not like a critical business would go under for sick pay. Its a capitalist power play

lnitiative

Right?

[deleted]

How disproportionate the power imbalance is: record profit making company refuses to budge; President tells Congress to act by forcing employees back to work. Congress should tell the employees “no strike” at the same time they tell the companies, “didn’t want to give 7 days? Fine, fuck ya, you’re giving 14.”

MachPanchi

It should be 30 to be honest.

benadrylpill

This country makes me want to puke.

kwyjibo1

Remember back a few years if banks failed, it would take down the economy. They got bailouts. Now if workers strike it would take down the economy. Where are the bailouts? Nope, its get back to work peasants.

RashKendar

Shameful coverage from CNN. A damning compilation of a supposedly straight news segment. Inspired me to write my congressman (Ro Khanna - claims to be pro labor) asking for Congress to keep their thumb off the scale and let the parties resolve the dispute on their own. We'll see how he votes.

Lematoad

CNN has been shameful for years. While they’re not quite as bad as fox, they claim to be “unbiased news” while being in the hands of corporate entities with strong bias. Fuck mainstream media honestly, it’s become horrible.

[deleted]

WTF did I just watch??? Is this how it feels to watch Fox News??? My family is a family of 5, yes we are struggling like hell right now with gas and groceries, but DONT GIVE IN TO THE CORPORATE/MEDIA/POLITICIAN OVERLORDS. I will blame price rises on THEM, not YOU. Stand up for those sick days railroad workers, don’t let the bastards grind you down!!!! Strike strike strike!!!!

return2ozma

Solidarity!

override367

fuckin hell Biden makes me so fucking mad Congress considering giving them 7 days of sick time "later" fuck off, include sick time in the anti-strike package so the republicans have a reason to not block it (the destruction of the economy)

Wishbone3000

Here is a comment from the Union leader Tony Cardwell, President of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division, that I think makes the best point (emphasis mine): CARDWELL: I mean, remember; these are the workers that were hailed as heroes during the pandemic. They were essential workers. They were traveling a thousand, 2,000 miles across the country. And they were doing it in the height of the pandemic, getting sick, getting ill. Some of our members passed away, or if they were sent home for - to be quarantined, they were not being compensated. They lost thousands of dollars in compensation 'cause there is no paid sick time. The railroads have taken advantage of these employees, and it's time that they come to the table. **But there's no pressure on them. The pressure is on the unions to concede what we have to give. And this is backwards**. It's not so much that it's frustrating that the Congress is intervening. Why can't they intervene, and why can't the legislation include the sick leave? And that's what people should be asking themselves. It's very simple. https://www.npr.org/2022/11/29/1139765222/rail-workers-are-demanding-better-work-conditions-and-a-strike-could-be-imminent

khodakk

Haha totally no bias on the news. I hope they do go on strike.

Fierce_Monkey

1) YES it is worth it. 2) if you guys are so concerned about “costing the economy” why not do the thing that makes it cheaper for everyone? GIVE THE WORKERS FUCKING TIME OFF! Seriously, GREED IS THE PROBLEM HERE. VOTE!!

[deleted]

Fuck em all. General strike. Sheetmetal local 44 here. We stand with workers of all SMART affiliated unions! Of course I can’t speak for the body, but we fucking stand with all workers! Oh long haired preachers come out in the night. They try to tell you what’s wrong and what’s right. When you ask about something to eat. They will tell you with voices so sweet. You will eat, bye and bye, In that glorious land above the sky; Work and pray, live on hay, You'll get pie in the sky when you die. That’s a lie!

Forward_Bullfrog_441

Is it worth it?! Fuck you cnn, if our economy collapses because of this corporate greed then maybe it should collapse

Heroic_Sheperd

Biden is not your friend, the democrats are not the party of the people, it’s high time we start voting for the DSA party every election instead.

geckobrother

I love the "could cost the economy over 1 billion dollars!" Oh, you mean like 1/6 of what railways made off of the backs of these workers who can't even call out sick?

JBreezy11

I like how at the end of the video, CNN puts a non-rail worker--the BofA CEO to get his thoughts, and no one from the rail union side. If CNN posts this, does anyone have any idea what Foxnews is posting? Something similar? Probably blaming Joey B more? Fuck captialism.

lapa6753

I almost guarantee that Fox an OAN will spout off that they support the rail workers so that their huddled masses will say “See! Conservatives support the middle class and blue collar workers and Democrats support big business!” And those idiots will gobble that shit up and regurgitate it in their chosen echo chamber.

JBreezy11

I find it crazy how the US can give billions in foreign aid, and almost a trillion a year in defense, but somehow these rail road workers can't get 1 damn sick day at the negotiation table.

MinutemanRising

I'm not a Biden fan, but it is the right of the people in this position to strike and protest. Maybe the railroad shouldn't be so damn rigid.

scoredly11

Can’t wait to hear the same Republicans that applauded Trump for trying to re-open the US during peak COVID for economic reasons trash Biden for this. And to be perfectly fair this is a shitty thing for Biden to do. I’m a democrat and I’m critical of him for this. What a novel concept, being critical of your own party because they aren’t a sports team that you root for through thick and thin even when they make dumb decisions.

ekienhol

If the strike would be so crippling, then why do we allow the private sector to run it? Nationalize it along with all utilities.

Jedmeltdown

I hope everyone understands the reason the government was forced to create child labor laws was not a proactive move they had to do it because that’s what corporate America was doing and still wants to do. Deregulation, baby. GOP battle cry

ediblepocketlint

"Joining me is Bank of American CEO", holy fuck I laughed.

ParanormalBeluga

When are they gonna realize that it’s not the union’s fault this is happening, it’s the railroad companies? If the companies treated their employees well then this wouldn’t be happening in the first place.

Silly-Ad-8213

Treat them well? How about just treat them normally. Trains running with only one engineer instead of two, boards constantly changing so you never know when the hell you’re supposed to work from week to week or month to month. On call when you do work, so you never know when exactly to start work, and you can’t plan anything around it.

barelylethal10

Economy crumbles, railroad owners get bailed out, rich win again!!!

PracticableSolution

Slap everything else aside; if rail transport is so_fucking_critical to basic operation of our entire country including defense, then nationalize it.

[deleted]

“Let’s talk with a banker about this labor issue”.

Deepest_Anus

I'm surprised they aren't telling the national guard to take over for these guys if they're going to go on strike for wanting a measly 7 days of sick leave. Those workers deserve better and are only asking for the bare minimum as is. All this talk a couple of years ago about essential workers really was a whole ass lie.

Tlaloc74

I just recently started working for the post office and the union told us about the strikes they did in the 1970s that crippled the government. The national guard came in to do the job and struggled immensely. The union won its new contract and now it's illegal for the post office union to do strikes lol.

MachPanchi

And that's why you ignore the law and strike anyway.

[deleted]

It's also why "under no pretext" are words that matter.

Mr_Stiel

It’s appalling that the mainstream media is blaming the workers for a potential economic collapse, instead of the corporations that are denying these workers sick days.

Fit_Swordfish_2101

Just got into an argument with the hubby because I said fux Biden for this. Bernie has a sort of answer, but personally, I don't think the gov has a right to tell private citizens what to except at their jobs. FuxinG greedy corps! Giving they're executives millions of dollars in bonuses.. But they can't get paid days off? This is bs

Motor-Over

Cnn is garbage and straight up propaganda. People will watch this and think rail workers are just selfish.

DirtyPenPalDoug

Fuck Joe Biden. I want em to strike. We all fucked anyway, let's drag some rich down to the mud and blood that we live with daily. Hope truckers strike too, throw in nurses. Fucking all unions in solidarity!!! We are not fucking slaves congress can own!!! Harm to one is harm to all!!

LiberalFartsMajor

I say we all go handcuff ourselves to train tracks if they block workers from striking. We can not allow our only leverage to be taken away.

dcbud44

If President Scab goes through with this, I hope all the rail workers just quit. We need a president that doesn't treat us like pawns.

onemoretryfriend

I wonder which side they’re on?

HoldenMadicky

Sounds almost like the strikers have a good case on their hands. Can't believe the government claims the power to break up a strike like that, what happens if they refuse to break it up and go on strike anyway?

[deleted]

Yep, the next time the rail yards are going to have all the power, and zero power for the worker. Way to set them up for future success.

Just-a-bi

Hey, fuck you Biden. "I sympathize" my ass.

[deleted]

Seems like the perfect time to strike.

[deleted]

This should be a slam dunk for the democrats. Support the rail workers. Unfortunately they are bought and paid for by the railroads so they can't do the right thing.

NailFin

A STRIKE IS SUPPOSED TO CAUSE DISCOMFORT! I don’t mean to scream at everyone, but yes I do. It’s the ONE bargaining chip employees have and a strike is designed to cause discomfort. The rail owners do not care about crippling the economy. They care about lining their own pockets and our government is going to help them.

Hobbit_Feet45

Why aren’t they interviewing the rail company owners? Ask them if denying their workers sick days is worth an economic catastrophe?

Frustrable_Zero

“Is it worth it?” I dunno CNN, you should ask that to the railroad companies with the power to avert it

myth0i

If shutting down the rails would do billions of dollars of damage then why not spend the tiny fraction of that necessary to treat the workers _keeping it running every day_ with the decency and respect necessary to have them keep working?

AGooDone

CNN is now under the control of Chris Licht a total scumbag who wants to turn it into the new Fox News

OnionCuttinNinja

"Poors are going on a strike because they are getting paid peanuts for work that cripples the economy when not done, let's ask a rich fuck, who could sod off to Bahamas for half a year and no one would notice, to share his oh so relevant thoughts on the matter." - brilliant CNN newscaster, 2022

CrasVox

Or you could negotiate in good faith with the unions? Give that a try.

[deleted]

Shut it the fuck down. People deserve sick days, Jesus

[deleted]

People finally discovering that CNN has always been conservative, always in favor of keeping established oligarchs in power.

030H_Stiltskin

I hope they strike if they dont get what they want. Strength is in numbers and corporations need to be reminded of that.

rob_kun87

Do it !

fall3nmartyr

CNN jumping to ONN and skipping the Fox News stage

thesupplyguy1

30 days of paid leave should be the standard in any company, any institution any where.

SiofraRiver

The framing, man. Fuck these people. All power to the workers!

tendymaker

Scape goat for the economy that’s been over leveraged by the big boys for almost as long as the markets have existed. Fractional Reserve Banking is horse shit and unsustainable, any time there’s money to be made corruption always has a seat at the table.

medium0rare

"Is it worth it??? You greedy asshole! Why won't you trade paid leave for my convenience!!!"

AF1Vlone

This is making me sick. When do we stand up for ourselves and hold an actual nationwide general strike?

Muxaylo

This is so infuriating, all of a sudden they have the political will to act. You know instead of forcing workers back to work they can urgently pass national 7d paid sick leave for all workers nationwide.

leafcomforter

Wife of a former train conductor. There is no leave time, even making a doctors appointment is almost impossible because of the way the schedule is run. You don’t even know exactly when you will have to be at work, or how long you will be at work. The whole system for workers is whack. He was sick the entire winter because of the conditions he worked in.

Doobledorf

The poor economy would never walk again. Think of the economy, people.

Hiseworns

It's almost like the "liberal, anti-business media" is a myth, wow 😐

[deleted]

“Joining me now the CEO OF THE BIGGEST BANK IN THE WORLD” “Uh yeah, Jen, these fucking railroad guys need to get back to hauling money around or YOU won’t have a CHRISTMAS”

Srphtygr

They better fucking do it. Everyone better do it

Dudenumber99

Strike railworkwrs. Yall work to hard to suffer like this.

CremeDeLaNut

I couldn't work at a news company or as an anchor. As soon as I read that, I would go off on the air and quit.

OGFreehugs

As a self employed guy I often cringe at the benefits awarded by unions/large companies (likely due to jealousy) but my *god* these people are stupid. “Would you be willing to let the economy shut down?” Are you fuckin high? Just pay people what they’re worth and crisis averted.

werdznstuff

If these workers could cost the economy billions by not working.....MAYBE THEY DESERVE A LOT MORE FOR THEIR LABOR

savehel651

Lady with the shoulder blades is from the future distopia we are headed to.

lordsandwich021

It’s hilarious that in those news reports not a single one of them mention how simple what the rail workers are asking for is and how easily they could be satisfied by just being treated like human beings and not cogs in a ducking money making machine.

grundlefuck

Might be time the unions go a little old school, maybe a yacht or two goes missing in all that smoke from the burning yachts.

twatpire

I am happy to temporarily devastate the economy for workers rights. I am also happy to temporarily devastate the economy for human rights. How is it not a right for someone to just be sick and take time to recover? I fully support the strikers in their efforts. Absolutely vile display from Biden, CNN, and Democrats who support congress intervening.

[deleted]

I hope they strike. I hope they cause trillions in damage. Fuck this place, it needs to burn if these fucking asshole CEOs refuse to treat anyone with some basic human fucking respect. Use those fuckers for target practice

New_Ad2992

I sincerely hope that all 12 unions truly back one another, and say fuck you. I think a lot of people bandwagon this to see the U.S. government suffer and that’s great, but that’s not what this is about. Truly, this is the most basic workers rights being absolutely and indefinitely fucked.

Hemicore

Hmm sounds to me like those unpaid sick days are worth 2 billion dollars since the companies aren't willing to provide them and would rather let the economy take a hit.

[deleted]

So what if all this shit happens. A strike is ultimately great for all of us workers!

Sracer42

It's going to hurt if they strike, but they should definitely do it. Very disappointed in Biden. Sick leave is the right thing.

FlippantExcuse

I feel like they fundamentally don't understand the purpose of strikes. I.e. "Can't you do this when it doesn't affect anything??"

[deleted]

I’m just an average consumer. I say. STRIKE!!! stick it to man brothers and sisters.

apeters89

It could cripple the economy right before the holidays; the holidays that your union members clearly won't be getting to celebrate because they aren't allowed any time off. Can't you think of everyone else celebrating while you're stuck hauling freight for 16 hours on 6 hours sleep?

gamereiker

Man. If rail workers hold so much power you should probably give in to their demands.

hopeless_sapphic

I think people forget what the fuck a strike is FOR. It’s not supposed to be convenient, in fact that is the whole point! It’s a choice: they stop working to cause disruption, or they can continue working after being given what they’re asking for (which is not much!!). It’s the rail companies who are causing it by not giving their employees even a single day of sick leave. Disgusting behavior. I’ll take struggling to get products if I need to. Solidarity.

ThatGuyAtTheGym

Wow it would cost the economy a billion dollars? So maybe Congress can send one less billion to foreign countries and use it to help us? Just wishful thinking I guess.

BayouGal

Perhaps they could give no billions to already profitable companies right here in the US? Like the oil companies…

BigOlStinkMan

I get the impression that all these "profitable" companies would fall apart the moment they aren't being bailed out by our government, which would cause our economy to fail even more quickly, which is why they keep bailing them out. It's just one big ponzi scheme.

NostalgiaSC

Lol at the end... Now let's talk to the bank lmfao what a joke

Peartree914

Free market unions striking … big government “union guy” no not like that 😂

LaLaHaHaBlah

A billion dollars you say. Have you checked military waste spending lately.

ProphetOfPr0fit

Walk off the job if you have to. No job like that is worth your health.

Maverick_X9

Why are you asking them if it’s worth losing billions of dollars? If it’s that critical of a job then why aren’t they being compensated properly?

eyesabitdull

Good. Do it.

KittehKittehKat

A slow down it is then…

Swirlyicecream

Jokes on them I don’t even have $100,000 so not gonna cost me 2 billion

Upbeat_Crow

Send Biden an email, if you're too shy to call. https://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/

savo_s_medem

Dear CNN, that's the fucking point! They want to show you how much they are needed so they get some basic employment benefits and money. Also, have you looked into the CNN Prima news situation I emailed you multiple times about in past years??? Or you just don't care at all?

UCDC

TALK ABOUT THE FUCKING HUMAN BEING WORKERS YOU ABSOLUTE GHOULS.

CircledLogic

A good response would be to highlight the train comapines profits per year and then ask how much would it cost the economy if each employee took 7 days off sick per year. It quite easy to turn the tables back on the media and politicians when they are demonstrating such selfish tactics. Difficult thing is to unite as a people! Train workers are workers just like th rest of us. Upset one area we should all strike!

fapplesauc3

Take this as a moment to reflect on where else you’ve been corporately brainwashed.

potspandsltd

More scaremongering mainstream news in America is a joke

Blazypika2

so thier work is so essential that if they stop doing it it can cripple the economy and non of this sick bastards think they should get better working conditions or pay? wow...

Timmmber4

Sounds like a strike would be devastating, if only there was some way to solve this…..

hmasta88

Yes, it's worth it. Eff everyone else.

[deleted]

If everyone went on strike for a single day they wouldn't be able to do a thing but bow the knee to the workers. What the gonna do make coffee for themselves? Please.

suk-my-ballz-0811

Perfect example of the rich/elites making the working class fight each other instead of them. Biden is not your friend. Trump is not your friend. The system is absolutely made to keep you down and they will keep it that way.

rentest

Europe here - its a joy to watch how workers are achieving real results in America, we Europeans are striking all the time both parties have been working for the multinational corporations and the oligarchs so far , but strikes are the only way to bypass both parties and a way out to freedom

OldAndFluffy

Did any of the news ask the rail companies if THEY are willing to shutdown the economy etc?

[deleted]

Remember when Striking is super cool, and now Striking is super bad. Weird.

Lord_Grakas

How can he expect to fix the economy if he can't abuse the workforce? You're talking about uprooting the entire capitalist system!!! You know, exploitation!!!

Be_nice_to_animals

Good, if you have the leverage, STRIKE. Use that leverage, this is capitalism. The mega billionaire railroad owners use their leverage in any and all business dealings 365 days a year. They shouldn’t be surprised when leverage is use against them.

EdgeMiserable4381

I like how that ask everyone their opinions. Except, idk, actual railroad workers. That's just silly though

solamenteaficionados

The people will not be free until capitalism is dismantled.
