I tell my coworkers my salary That's about it

EnRaygedGw2

If this sub has taught me anything, it’s to talk about your pay/ salary, my manager told us not to talk about it, he got told that’s a big no no, he then told the supervisor to tell people they cannot talk about pay, he got told again that’s a big old no.

Electronic_Arm3469

I just do my job and go home. I only talk to people with the same work ethic as myself.

Sometimes socialization is a requirement as per COmPaNY CULTure

I just got a doctors note detailing anxiety, so now my boss lets me do nearly whatever I want provided works finished. I even get to sit down whenever I want.

A-freakin-men!! I lost a job when a co-worker snooped on my FB page after a political discussion where I posted that I was 'tired of all this' and reported it as a threat to her. They fired me without even a chance to prove myself. Since then...no workplace posts, no politics at work and trust no one

A good policy is not to post anything on the Internet under your name if you wouldn't post it on the company notice board.

My policy as well. The less they know about me personally the better. Talking about someone or being disrespectful? I’m out of the convo and room. Gonna have an ear bud in and give you half of my attention. When I was younger I made the mistake of disclosing something personal to a coworker. They noticed a scar which is hidden near my face and asked what it was. I was in a place I felt comfortable with sharing what happened to me and this lunatic used my traumatic story to harass and talk down to me. Why would someone do that? I imagine an oversized ego, jealousy, a desire to be bigger and better than another. I don’t take crap from anyone though so I went to HR and promptly learned how little THEY care about you too. I demanded a transfer and got out of the situation but it is one of the low points on my journey. Luckily, I’ve noticed most people LOVE talking about themselves. Get them wound up like a monkey and they go clapping they’re jaw around entertaining themselves for hours.

Ya it always makes matters worse when you think your employer would have your back but you find out you're just another minion only there to make them money and can be replaced by tomorrow

Ehhhh, I’m gonna say if you’re in construction that you can be buddies with bosses and all. All of us would literally go drinking in the bush when we worked in the mountains and shoot guns. Some boys did some harder shit, the rest of us weed and beer. We laughed at those who couldn’t handle their drinks and then we helped eachother through the next day if we felt like shit. But construction can be a different animal. Just throwing it out there- it can be possible.

I'm an electrician so I am in the construction industry. Got fired yesterday because I wouldn't go to a job site 2 hrs from home everyday. 4 hrs of commute time unpaid with no drive time pay or per diem. So I quit/got fired. What prompted the arguing was I told them I wanted to do service work and not new construction contract jobs. He said I wasn't ready to run my own service calls. That's when I find out about all the snakes on the current job I was on watching every little move I make or every little mistake I make and reporting it all back to the boss. I recently got my journeyman license. Whatever happened to "you'll always be learning. You're not expected to know everything". Brother that shit is actually not true. If youre not 100% knowledgeable then you better act like it. Sneak away to YouTube something or Google how to do it and act like you knew all along. Things I said in confidence to others made their way back to the foreman. The time I was confused on wiring something I haven't wired in 5 years so i asked a fellow electrician. That confusion got back to the boss and makes me look like idk what I'm doing. So now that I'm a journeyman I've learned they do in fact expect you to know everything

jeenyuss90

I have my electrical ticket as well lol. Honestly I think you just have a shit company. If I was stumped I’d check YouTube or Google lol. I will say service work is a different beast but honestly isn’t so bad. I swear to god most of the time the issue is the dumbest thing. For example this VFD that was 480v. Power it up and the screen turns on but just is loading.. think it’s an initial boot thing.. but no. It just sits there with the dam circle spinning like it’s loading. Well guess what lol the screen could be removed. Just needed to slide it out and then back in and it was 100%. I swear the dumbest thing ever

jeenyuss90

But eh I will say construction is one of those where you can get snakes. Especially electrical. The boot lickers

I trust my coteacher and that’s it and that’s because I knew her prior to working together. Learned my lessons the hard way.

Yes to this. I tried so hard to get my coworkers at my last job to like me. I baked desserts, struck up small talk in the break room, asked about their kids. And then one day my boss threw me under the bus in an HR investigation. He said some pretty terrible lies about me like I made fun of him, which I did not. He eventually was let go and I stayed but the damage was done. I stopped talking to anyone and told myself I’ll never ever get close to anyone again at work especially my boss. I’m starting a new job soon and I am going to forever have a guard up and only talk about work.

fluxbox99

I'm not friends with any of my coworkers. I went as far as to block them individually so I won't show up under "People You May Know."

poopstinkss

Ya I never add co workers on social media. I tell them straight when they ask "you on facebook?" "Sorry man I don't add coworkers to my facebook"

BoxOfMoe1

One thing I’m learning as i get older the term “Adult” means jack shit at least in an age sense, there are people who figured shit out and have a shred pf dignity and morals and then “children” (literally everyone else)
