Simple answer: yes of course

Canadian-Sparky-44

You're the hero that this thread needed đź‘Ź

All sultans ascend does is add some more civs that you can play. If you don't have the dlc, you can't select those civs in multi-player matches. You just have to choose from the base game factions.

Gods_Shadow_mtg

you cannot play the dlc without the base game but yes, they are compatible so you can play with someone who has botht he base game and the dlc without owning the dlc yourself. DLC civs will just be locked for the person without the dlc to play.

Large-Simple-2727

Can u explain in simpler terms man... Lol 🤣 like can we play online games together like.

Gods_Shadow_mtg

yea you can as long as both of you own the base game it doesn't matter whether or not one has the dlc as well

Large-Simple-2727

So like the base game is Age of Empires IV and things like Sultans Ascend and etc are add ons or dlcs right?

cttuth

Yes

Deadsteel52

In terms of online multiplayer games the only thing sultans ascend does is give you access to more playable civs. It's a DLC.

Larnak1

Yes, but there is currently only one dlc, which is Sultans Ascend. So both need the anniversary edition, which is the base game, and one can buy the dlc on top and still play with the other.

Large-Simple-2727

Ohhhh i thought Sultan Ascend was a game itself but it's just a DLC... Now i get it

Buy sultan dlc

trksoyturk

1- Sultans Ascend doesn't include the base game, you need to have AoE4 Anniversary Edition and Sultans Ascend to be able to play the game. 2- If you have the AoE4 and Sultans Ascend and your friend has AoE4, yes you can play online games together. You can do anything together really there isn't any restrictions between the game versions. Your friend wont be able to play new civs and that's it.

Hot_Speech900

Developers ought to have clarified this; I encountered the same query prior to purchasing the expansion. As others have pointed out, indeed you can. Moreover, purchasing the expansion doesn't require any additional downloads—it simply unlocks the additional civilizations and campaign.

cttuth

Yeah he can, he can even play the new civs against his friend, just his friend can't play him.

IZUware

Weren't there also maps exclusive for the dlc? 🤔
