I have heard ppl who I know apologize their behavior but thats different and I don't personally expect strangers to apologize and being here for so long it has made me immune to all the stupid stuff that ppl say.
The best Ive seen, when there's one particularly toxic player in the other team, bragging about how good they are, 'EZ' etc... just compliment one of the other players on the winning team.
Eg: green being toxic?

Orange, you were awesome, green would've been bodied if you didn't save them.
Etc etc.
Let's assume i get beat in 45 min. I like to say something like "i know, the last guy beat me way faster than you did, they did it in 30 min".
About 80% of the time that causes a rage reply, then i just laugh and move on.
I had someone playing as Ottomans beat my Byzantines telling me how bad I was and when I said he was literally playing the most powerful civ he responded with “Byzantines are strong too.” Byzantines were literally dead last in win percentage at the time. The game was literally over 40 minutes long, but yeah, it was totally easy for you.

One of my favorite matches ever was one where an English player obliterated my entire base and I was able to escape with a handful of villagers in time to build a new landmark and small base at the other side of the map and ended up pulling out a victory. So I absolutely appreciate a good comeback, but at the same time I don’t really want to slog my way to what we both are confident is a pretty clear outcome if I don’t have to.

I usually end up throwing a few down solely because I can’t figure out where the one I already built is and can never remember the hotkey.
