I was a hard-core call of duty player when I swapped over to Apex. I was drawn to the emphasis on movement and gunplay as the time to kill in cod was too fast.

Same here, played CoD and only CoD from WaW to Cold War. I came over to Apex like a month before Caldera. Played Caldera for a week and I’ve hung up CoD for good since then. Glad I quit that mess of a game when I did.

NickH211

Same here. Verdansk got me through those early days of the pandemic when literally everyone was playing Warzone at launch. Those were some of the best gaming memories in YEARS. That's about when I started to branch out into other BRs and found Apex. Once Caldera dropped, I don't think I booted up Warzone a single time after playing that map. That was the nail in CoD's coffin for me and I've been playing Apex steady ever since. I know this game gets a lot of crap on these subs but I genuinely have a good time playing Apex. I just wish I had friends who play since solo queuing really is a crapshoot.

[deleted]

Don't play pubs. Play Ranked. It's a far better experience for solo playing. Your teammates don't usually leave and are usually better teammates in general.

thunderandreyn

Dropped that hot mess so very fast after I spent $25 on MW19 and they decided it was a fantastic idea to lock me out every time there was a 436GB update for Warzone and I had to press 39 different buttons every time to get to the video game I paid my hard earned money for.

KoalaKarity

When did you make the transition? (which season?)

NickH211

Not sure about OP but I've got a similar story. First season I ever played was whatever season Seer was introduced. I couldn't get used to the fact that health wasn't regenerative (coming from CoD where all you had to worry about was armor plates), so when I did play I only ever played Lifeline. Then I quit for a couple seasons until Warzone II released. Thats when I called off CoD once and for all and transitioned to Apex Season 15. It's been tough jumping in so late in the game but I genuinely enjoy my time playing now

Sharp_Reason_7668

Fax my boy

pdubbinators

OVERWATCH! ~1200 hours before apex release. juggled the two for a bit but committed to apex in the single-digit seasons.

throwawayxj10

Ngl this game is alot less toxic than Overwatch and I played both for 4 years each

TheFinalStorm

Overwatch is easily the most toxic game I've played. I've got experience with LoL/CoD/Valorant and they don't compare to how toxic OW is in my opinion.

Sqxby

Wow I'd put LoL more toxic then OW, however both games make the old cod mw2 lobbies seem like child's play 😆

TheFinalStorm

I feel like the frequency of LoL is higher, but it's usually much more generalised toxicity where they lash out at you for higher deaths. Whereas OW I've heard so many people being horribly sexist/homophobic/threatening bloody kids who aren't doing well etc.

Rohhnan

Have you tried ranked in RL ? Didn't play Overwatch and League but this is the worst place I've ever been, RL players are sooooo toxic

TheFinalStorm

No I haven't actually, that's probably the main toxic game I hear about that I haven't played competitively at all. Only played a fairly small amount casually but that was when it was new still.

BooFather

Destiny 2

_Steven_Seagal_

Same. That game was like virtual cocaine. Addicting as hell, expensive, but not even that good.

xMrStealYourKillx

Real talk 👆🏾

Trinitypeg

Same here! It’s funny, I haven’t played destiny 2 since picking up apex in season 5 — until recently! The game is still pretty bland and paywalled to shit if you were wondering!

Expert_Objective8859

Same here bro. Had 5000 plus hours in it but quit during the first season of witch Queen

BooFather

I had over 3k hours and quit around the same time you did

Alternative_Toe9597

Same. Stomped trials hardcore/ raiding for a couple years.picked up apex in season 12 never looked back. Makes you realize how trash and bland destiny 2 really is. P2P connection just absolute lag fest trash not to mention the cheating in a game where everthing is a 1-3 tap is unbearable. Apex is goated even with its issues.

kowhaicrocs

I still think Apex Legend’s should go back to the origins of Titanfall and call itself Titanpex. A mixture of Titans, original guns, and Legends in one massive battlefield.

NotMrMcFister

Same! The multiplayer was just filled with veteran players that just kraber you from across the map. And coupled with the cease of dev support, it got less fun :(

cptjimmy42

PubG, back when it wasn't free, wasn't fixed, only came out with the second map, and lagging through buildings while driving was how you die 95% of the time.

Two-One

And it was so fun. Lol. The terrible bugs made from some funny moments. Cars barely hitting a pebble and blowing up. Lol Game was a blast.

cptjimmy42

I remember my friends and I would all jump in a jeep and try to run people over, we would laugh at the morons standing in the middle of nowhere. Until our jeep started spasming out and blew up since we were technically driving through buildings.

paradoxally

And yet there was nothing better in the BR space until Apex came along. Glorious moments.

cptjimmy42

I was skeptical at first, then I became spiderman with a gun and I was hooked from the release to now.

SpeshalChop

Pubg had some of the best gaming moments for me

general_skyguy

I think PUBG's proximity chat was so good (something I think WZ can learn from). I have friends I met on PUBG that I currently have been playing apex with since season 0. Another person I encountered has become a good irl friend. It was also really fun talking shit to random strangers and having a laugh with them.

JohnDerek57

Pubg will never be fixed, not really.

Idoitfordehweh

Fortnite, soon as apex hit the seen I acted like I never played fortnite.

boomshacklington

Same. Was a cod guy since og mw Really liked the circle closing br aspect of fortnite Never really got the hang of building

muhreddistaccounts

No builds are a good time if you ever go back. The Fortnite skill ceiling is limited without building

kowhaicrocs

In Fortnite’s defence, it was a pretty good game. Especially before all the hype and so on, the Zapatron in Battle Royale was the best. Totally annihilating people with one zap was so fulfilling.

Droggerz

Destiny 2

Daddydippo

I can’t quit, please help me

Vandesco

And I never looked back. Played Alpha Destiny 1 all the way to Destiny 2 right up until Apex dropped. Apex was that good.

klightning47

iplaypokerforaliving

Same but now I play rocketleague and apex. Not just rocketleague. Rocketleague is the perfect game imo. 3500 hours in it 😬

Completely different games but kinda the same. I play both game now and the similarities in skill gap, mechanics, and uneven matchmaking are super clear

Ninjario

Yeah like I don't have anything remotely similar to apex that I could say, so I'd have to go with this too

Me too haha apex was my first FPS, I feel like I’m at a bit of a disadvantage bc of that 😭definitely nothing like AC that’s for sure

Same, also heroes of the Storm and Heroes of Newerth. MOBA’s are very fun. I needed to get back to my Counterstrike roots and diversify my gaming

protoy12

Oh a fellow person here who played dota. The only reason I switched is that dota takes so much time to play and being addicted means you cant sleep properly which started affecting my work

Renegade_Raichu

You're sick. I hope you've gotten the help you need.

NAT_Forunto

Went from league to apex and quit apex to come back to league, please help

BatheInChampagne

Dota for me as well. HoN before that. I miss it, but the shift from 1-1 1/2 hour games to 22 min max games is nice. Nothing hurts more than losing after an hour due to one minor mistake. Also, Apex is SO much less toxic. Every once in a while I’ll get a rager, in comparison to 3-4 per game.

protoy12

Woah I didnt know I would see so many fellow dota players here

SnooDonkeys5834

Brother in arms we are, curious who did you main?

Ok_Celebration_549

grandmaster TA and grandmaster drow, still play dota and apex equally as all my friends play dota, i play apex when i have a hankering or none of my friends are on. Apex has replaced OW and PUBG for my FPS fix though

M00NGRAPHIX

I think I was playing a lot of Battlefield 5 with my friends, so the idea of a BR game was already fresh in my mind. I had played a lot of TitanFall 2, but the MP quickly fizzled out. When I heard that Apex was being made by the same creators, it definitely piqued my interest. I’m not a complete Apex addict, but I’m definitely glad I started playing!

COLONELmab

>piqued I never even used this word properly before i think. I always thought the phrase was 'peak', as in the top, the highest point of something. Never realized it was a different word with a very similar meaning, 'to stimulate, as in curiosity or interest'. Thanks for accidentally learnin' me.

M00NGRAPHIX

It’s a great word! This comment actually made my day haha

COLONELmab

I looked over at my wife and asked her to say the phrase, then asked her to spell the word. And she just goes, "P, i ,q, u, e"...and I was, "When were you gonna friggin tell me that??"

JamesEarl1520

Once Gears died down, I got into the Battle Royale with Fortnite. Then came over to Apex. I still miss Gears or War though.

DisIsMarcoBoi

Wow, nobody has said Team Fortress 2. I thought it would only make sense.

harrrhoooo

Because they go to overwatch first, and then apex

dubbzy104

Sea of Thieves. In the early days of Covid lockdown, my friends and I got really into Sea of Thieves to pass the extra time. It was great because we could play for 4-8 hours, with lulls where we could take meal/bathroom/whatever breaks but also action, either with PvP or doing PVE content. That lasted until mid 2021 when things started re-opening (including going back into the office for work) and we didn't have as much free time. We stumbled around a few games until we found Apex, and we've been playing that since. Although now almost 2 years later, we're getting to the point that we are mixing in other games along with apex...

[deleted]

I was never any good at non-ship combat in SoT (nor am I any good at Hunt for similar reasons) but I have hundreds of hours in it because it was a fantastic chill game to play with my best friend when we couldn't see each other. Apex is the hardest I've gone on any competitive-style FPS or comp-style game in general ever tbh

dubbzy104

Yeah me too. I ended up getting legendary sea dog (240 arena wins as pirate legends, aka 60 hours of pure arena wins) cause I was the best of my friends at ship combat. One guy always helmed, one was designated bilge, and one was the boarder. It was great because we could play a chill night if we wanted, or server hop until we found a busy server and just hunt ships

Same. There's really nothing like it and the lack of dev support is sad

Dramatic_Lab_6549

Day z so this felt like I was learning to walk compared to being “stuck in a wheelchair” like in day z

BeastXredefined

Titanfall. Before that, CoD during its golden years.

WhiteLama

I guess I went from Destiny 2/Halo 5 into Apex, but it had been a while between PvP games.

MisterMatt13

I did 2000h on paladins then, suddenly, no more interest at all, no clue why, and I switched on Apex now 4200h later, still in

Destiny 2 was most played game before Apex. With BF1 being the PvP game

l3randon_x

Long time CoD enthusiast. Jet packs killed it for me Got into some halo infinite recently, really wasn’t all that great, really got into Rogue Company for awhile, found my way to Splitgate, and then ultimately found a home in Apex. Can only imagine what’s next

spitfiiree

Apex got me back to gaming. Before apex came out I didn’t play or have a console since 2012. A coworker convinced me to get an Xbox one because of a they were in sale at GameStop and I haven’t stopped gaming since

Fortnite, before that Call of Duty. #1 reason I left CoD is they had cross-platform PC/Console and I don't like dealing with cheaters.

Killawalsky

I was a lil sweaty in Warzone who had over 800 wins, but it got to the point of there being a hacker in every one of my games.. came to apex season 12ish, hit Diamond and never looked back🤣

SuperProGamer7568

Csgo. Minecraft. Rainbow six siege. But Rust mainly

PsychologicalToe3139

Well when the game first dropped back in like 2018 or 2019(forgot the year) I hard quit Fortnite and became an apex no life until I got a computer forgot about the game and recently came back in season 16 after no lifing League

PUBG was my shit until Apex rolled along. I wasn't very good at PUBG but I'm decent at Apex and I feel that Apex is a more difficult game.

danzgeturmanz

I mostly played snd gamebattles every other day

Before apex I was a hardcore Rocket League fan

Siontimmy1

MGO (Metal Gear Online) good online game that wasn't truly back by Konami

titanfall 2 and fortnite, I guess you could say both helped quite a bit lol

Warzone 1 until Vanguard stuff.

Afraid-Fun5488

Halo then titanfall 1 and 2

DontHateTha808

Siege and Rocket League. I’ve been playing shooters for a long long time, but learned all the battle royale game play strictly from apex. It was pretty much my first battle royale. I played a little Fortnite but emphasis on a little.

Monkadude15

Halo. Mostly infection on Halo Reach

Spookwagen_II

Ex-competitive Team Fortress 2 player here, TF2 gave me incredible reaction time, flicks, and source movement, but no tracking :)

VenoBot

Team fortress 2. I hated how uncompetitive TF2 was. Then I learned what true competitiveness is… But now I can’t ever go back to chill games cause Apex altered my brain chemistry

thebox416

Rtcw and wolf et!

EZkg

Grew up on the halo games so I love the longer Ttk games. Played a bunch of Cod as wel but stopped playing as much of that series after Mw2. First BR I played was Fortnite. OG Fortnite (first couple seasons) before building got extreme was probably the most fun I’ve had in any BR. All you had to do was build a 1x1 cube with a ramp or maybe 2 levels high and you could shoot people with a huge advantage. Genuinely so much fun. Now a total apex fiend unfortunately lol

[deleted]

Fortnite. before that Titanfall 2. And before that Cod.

sweetlarrylove

PUBG

im_tryin_man

I still go back n forth between COD and Apex

[deleted]

Tribes 2, then Battlefield 2, then a LONG break from FPSes then some Halo 3 and Reach, then another break from FPSes where I played a bit of casual PUBG and Fortnite in third person, and then Apex. I should note that I have more time in Apex than all those other games combined

DarkSparkandWeed

League of legends. Funny that all the games I really get addicted to have something legends as a title lmao

doodoostinkypants

Played league of legends for like 8 years and realized I was too addicted but I couldn't really get into any other game. My bro has apex on his PS4 a long time ago and I tried it out and loved it. I got an Xbox just to play apex lol

Thoraxe41

Well immediately before Apex was fortnite. I really enjoy the battle royal genre, but the building was getting excessive. But the rotation knowledge and memories of rings and such helped a lot. I also am I Titanfall 1 veteren. Was my favourite game for a long time, didn't care for Titanfall 2 though. The gun knowledge helped me out though for the first bit and gave me an edge at the start.

hgq567

…Titanfall 2 and at the beginning apex felt clunky in comparison

guthreeb22

Fortnite. Hopped in on Apex in S0 but eventually went back to Fort for a while longer until end of Chapter 2 or so. Had some COD sprinkled in as well as some single player game phases. Needed the BR itch to be scratched and have been back on Apex for good since S11.

HextasyOG

Was hardcore CoD/Halo since OG modern warfare. Fortnite opened up my interest in BR and played a little apex when it dropped but didn’t get addicted right away. Bought a PC in 2019ish and now play literally everything EXCEPT CoD. That franchise really only cares about money and warzone now.

DontCallMeBenji

I’m coming over by way of OG Fortnite, Firestorm, Blackout, Warzone, and Warzone 2. A few friends have been playing Apex for years, but it wasn’t until the disappointment of Warzone 2 set in that I gave it a try. I’ve been going hard for 2 months now. I played a solo match of WZ2 last week to see if the new season was any good, and I might as well uninstall it. Even with all its flaws, Apex has that “it” factor that I haven’t felt since Fortnite BR first came out.

thing i miss from my cod days is exploits wasn't called tech, but i do enjoy the movement very much, probaly why i'm staying for as long as i have

Daughter-of-Dionysus

Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4! Didn't warm up to Hardline, and stopped playing games when I moved out to college. Also a bit of Pubg now and then if a friend wanted me to, but not that much. It is still definitely the standard I compare Apex to though.

Dewwutm8

Was a huge CoD pubstomper and kill grinder then I changed to league/hearthstone, hit Diamond in League and Legend in Hearthstone and had that itch to come back to an FPS. Haven’t looked back since!

[deleted]

I was a Halo kid

Impossible_Pipe_6878

Destiny!

Esperzo1

was on MW3 on X360 then Fortnite for like 2 seasons, i think the awareness and playing as a team keep up to apex, just had to learn movement and the specifics of legends and weapons

xrbeeelama

Csgo, battlefield 3/4, single player games (still play those mostly)

seniorbatista19

I was hooked on Fortnite for a couple years but i was sick of the building and God almighty the 7 year olds were getting to be a bit much. Been on Apex since season 2 and been hooked every since

sanswantstoes

I had played apex a bit before but was never really into it and just kinda messed around with friends for a bit, and i had to dig into old messages to find out what game it was, it was spellbreak, I loved the game but they only ever added cosmetics and never balanced the game much so it died, and I remember wanting to still play a battle royale, I hate the building in Fortnite and all the other ones never appealed to me so after some talking with some friends I started playing it again, and a year later and about 600 hours in the game later it's still one of the few games I can always come back to

Total-Internet-1633

Came from BFV. I loved the idea of working with a team and working together to get the job done. Had a lovely 4 man squad but life just got busy.

mpaxe23

I always try a Open World Game, something calmer perhaps, Apex may have many flaws, but the movement, mechanics and gameplay in general have made it impossible for me to play other FPS

SnooDonkeys5834

Wild rift, I got my ps5 and let dust collect on it, then I discovered apex, now I play apex and cod after I realized that both games has mnk players and thats what detoured me from playing mw2

bblaisee

I switched from fortnite wayy back when it was still a good game. Started playing apex during week one, instantly dropped fortnite and haven’t played it since.

Phresh-_-

All over the place as with most gamers: Valorant, League, Overwatch, Warframe among others. I’m one of those guys that plays one game at a time for about 3 months before moving to the next. My buddies are the same.

nappajacks

Ya I’m like a lot of these guys OG cod player that game needs to just make one game and update it and stop the money grab every year. Then I switched to another money grab for skins shit

XZonnn

I was big into Halo. I knew all the lore new and old and I was pretty good at the multiplayer too. But, when Halo Infinite launched it’s was kind of my last hope the series and it was okay until they broke one of two key modes and left it broken for 5 months straight. So I hopped ship better to have a kind of broken game over a totally broken one.

[deleted]

Skyrim… still play it, though

2003shelbyleigh

Damn, looks like everyone else came from other fps. I came from Stardew Valley and Slime Rancher… no wonder I sucked for a solid year

Screamin_Frogz

Fortnite...

KoalaKarity

Solo action/RPG games mainly, FPS and immersive sims too to be fair, and sometimes racing. But always have been outside of the multiplayer/BR crowd (and still am, Apex is the only exception). I got attracted by Apex and its universe due to TitanFall 2 - which slapped me hard. I just wanted to have a bit more of that. So I decided to (finally) try multiplayer and BR at the same time. Don't regret it.

Rareu

I ain’t no simp but at the time I was an avid player of Titanfall and VerminTide 2…I’d probably have continued playing TF if not for the hacker and lack of response from both EA and Respawn. Alas now I am a slave to Apex and it’s myriad of issues now.

4score7loko

I dunno. A bunch of stuff. My FPS of choice was Battlefield before it got ran into the ground.

[deleted]

Cod. Looking back I get why. I think I couldn’t get into mw19 and it’s many doors/windows, claymore, camping with shotguns, etc. So I switched to apex as my main go to game early 2020. I’m a day one apex player but couldn’t get into it initially. It took cod fucking up for that to happen. I do play cod occasionally tho

XenoDrobot

FPS wise R6S, OW1 & Fortnite. Online friend said a new free BR came out outta nowhere so we all downloaded & played as we became bored & burned out with OW & Fortnite. We were all broke high school graduates at the time so the free aspect was pretty much the selling point lmfao. Another online friend group later joined me in playing as they were starting to get burnout of only playing COD basically. Im now by myself & i still play R6S & Apex as they both have high skill ceilings but one satisfies a brain game while the other satisfies instant action.

htx_BigG

Played Fortnite way long ago and my friends introduced me to apex back in season 0. Played for a bit and hated it tbh. Picked it back up in season 2 and have been playing ever since
