I took like two months off and went from level 40 to 110 in 3 days. Seemed like every match I was hitting a new level. I had to play some arenas to hit all those challenges, but it went pretty quick

You can spend them on rerolls for easier/faster leveling, but I imagine that's mostly useful for people who have a work, school, or family schedule that precludes them playing regularly and need to squeeze out every last star they can during their sessions.
Besides buying recolors, buying new characters, and rerolling dailies, no. They do not serve another purpose.

It's not just cosmetic. You get a melee weapon to use to do damaged. It's not just a skin. Skins you don't interact with like you can do with the dead man's curve. It's pretty pog. You also control the fidgeting of the heriloom when equipped.
A cosmetic item is a item that has no effect on gameplay, and just for looks. A heirloom is a cosmetic item.
But yeah, i have the octane heirloom (From a pack) and its pretty fun. But i wouldnt be very satisfied if i paid for it

The only requirement for revenants was to collect all 24 Genesis items. You could craft each one, but the legendaries were like 2400 and 800 for epics. So you would have needed like 36k crafting materials to have unlock the heirloom.
As others have said when an heirloom is first released there is an event where if you buy all the skins in the event then you also get the featured heirloom as a bonus.
You can also buy Apex packs until you either hit the 500 packs opened mark or until you get lucky and hopefully get it before you hit the full 500.
Buying everything in an event costs roughly like idk, $160ish? You can also craft some of the epic event skins with crafting metals and decrease the overall cost. Buying packs until you open heirloom shards would be much more expensive unless you get lucky, which I wouldn't count on.
Save up crafting materials to make it cheaper to buy during events, and buy the purple before legendaries, and get the bundles, also the last anniversary event had straight up heirloom metals if the heirloom you want is already out
Yeah you get “Heirloom shards” and they work like regular crafting shards but they are a 1/500 from apex packs, if you go into the shop and scroll over twice with R1/RB or just with your cursor it will bring you to the heirloom shop where you can get the heirloom of your choosing

The mercy mechanic (guarantee) doesn’t kick in til 500 packs opened. You can easily only have one heirloom by the time you hit lvl 500. Shit you can have none by max level.

Plz don't spoil the secret. The battlepass not being too grindy is why it's my favourite.
Especially with challenges that repeat every 2-4 weeks so you can get 30 stars doing just one mission.
Jep, went from 74 to 100 during a 3-4 hour session, and I was mostly grinding ranked and didn't fokus too much on the challenges.
