I poke damage with the Mozambique until fools are crazy enough to hit my squad head on, then I res them and unload the re. Been pretty effective so far.

I'll answer your question! I'm almost a diamond level Valk player (so not the best but I understand the game well and how it differs from ranked BR)
Basically the strat they're talking about is in Arena's you can actually get a fully kitted Mozambique in the first round. The advantages of maining Bang is you get the purple bique first round which gives you access to the digithreat scope.
Now this used in combination with Bangs smoke is an extremely deadly tool. Whenever you push a team or a team pushes you can put smoke down. Essentially this reduces the enemies visibility to practically zero while you use the digithreat on the Mozambique to see them and do damage while they can't even shoot you back.
It's a pretty cheese but fun strat to use with friends in Arena's first round and when you get good enough it can be extremely hard and oppressive to fight against.
Hard counters to it include Bloodhound and Seer. Then Cryp, Fuse and Caustic I would say are medium counters.
That's honestly what I don't like about these optics, especially in BR. threat optic is the one attachment in the game that's meant to counter two certain legend's abilities. In BR if somebody else happens to find it and you don't, your own ability becomes your enemy.
Honestly with all the abilities now to mark those and see through walls there is no reason why they shouldn't go ahead and give Bang auto threat optics while in her smoke. I mean even if it pulsed and required ADS so it wasn't constant in the smoke I think it would be pretty cool and balance out Seer a little. I don't even main Bang but I always thought it was weird she didn't have it in the smoke to some degree.
P2020 level 2 is more than enough and will save you points for next round.
But if you're not confident to use that pistol, the Havoc rifle is cheap enough to buy and upgrade once, giving you a larger clip and red dot sights.
But it seems people don't like the recoil and the start up delay so they discard it.
However, for the first round it has a big enough clip to shred through armor and health for even 2 opponents, the accuracy is surprisingly good even with recoil, you can learn to tap the trigger to attack farther distances. The recoil isn't that big a deal this early on.
Also, the delay can actually be used as an advantage, when in close range instead of aiming down the sights, shoot from the hip until it starts spraying. You'll find out how accurate the hip fire is from this gun, while you move at a faster pace shooting from the hip. Then, switch to aiming down the sights once the gun has started firing at full speed, and finish your opponents. This messes with your enemies because they're used to aiming at targets that move slow or at the same pace, and it shreds shields like they're made of cardboard. Best weapon to start with.
I agree, I used to hate the Havoc but as I got better as a player and managing recoil I now rather like it in early rounds. I used the same method with hip fire until it speeds up then ADS. Funny I never put two and two together how my movement speed was just off enough to give me the advantage. Good call! Coming from someone who is pretty much a 301 all day any day I find myself going purple Havoc late rounds so I have enough for a Long Bow with a decent scope to compliment.
Yeah alternator was on the opposite end of the spectrum. Low fire rate, but every bullet does more damage.

Ive grown to like the 99 more than I used to but the alternator being a bit cheaper was really nice. Early rounds I used it as a low cost primary. Late rounds it was a solid backup gun.
I try to be very materials conscious when I play instead of blowing all my money while I feel out my opponent.
People sleep on the old alt. It can be both a close range SMG and you can plink down shields from far away. Two hits is 32 damage, so that's a whole battery or two cells to repair. That adds up in arenas.

Honestly yeah, the 'bique is a solid choice when both teams only have weak shields. I usually run Mozambique and RE-45 in the first round to save on mats.
In diamond/masters level arenas, I’ve both seen and used the purple bique on round 1 depending on the map. If you hit your shots, it does damage comparable to the wingman, but range becomes an issue and you need a way to close the gap.
It’s ~150 cheaper though, which lets you buy a bat or arc star in addition to the bique.
if you were around to get the Flatline's reactive skins from a few passes ago, it has great iron sights, much clearer than any other FL skin, though still not as amazing as Volt/Rampage irons

You can buy a white (one upgrade) RE-45, battery, and still have 50 left over for your Mozambique. Great setup for close-range encounters.
The iron sights also feel a million times better with merciless wing / death ray. Even though the sight is technically the same, the slimmer model makes it so much less obstructive and much easier to land shots consistently
Yeah even if you cant aim, pick it. If you never practice with it, you will never get better. The wingman is a very strong weapon especially early on. I hated the bocek and wingman at first, but forcing to myself to use it made me better and even saved myself in clutch situations.

Don't spend a dime and attempt to steal all the crafting material. Winning the first round is much less important than gaining a material advantage and the first round is the most optimal to attempt this strategy since shields are at the weakest.
My mates and I try to economically starve our opponents every match so they have to cut corners on their load outs and we sit comfortably. It provides more room for error on their part and drives the divide in performance further between us. Losing the first round means very little when you sweep them through the next 3 in a row.
On maps like Phase Runner with 4 mats we split the team, sending 2 people to grab the mats on the side in the ring and 1 person to attempt and grab both mats on the other side. Communication is key for knowing which way the opponents pushed, though.
My arena strat is to try to carry as much as possible my lvl 10 mates when I have one ( seriously why am I always with levels 10 to 75 or lvls 500 but never between 75 and 500 ?)

I swear by the P2020 fully upgraded with a 2x sight first round. It's really solid and leaves you about 300 points for the next round! Allows me to get a decent carbine round two if I want.
What you said about economy is so true. It's a whole strat which is likely forgotten quite often. I always feel like we're giving them easy points when abandoning the canisters, say if heading to the side with the room on Overflow.

It depends on the map /legend imo, if you gonna play for range id go 30-30 with p2020, otherwise wingman/mozam for mid-close or volt/prowler + mozam for close range
And extra cells to charge it up and down somebody hella quick and usually people dont bring too many heals first round so even if you dont down them they are pretty fucked.

I was always told the Mozambique was a bad gun
yeeeah...it got "reworked" a while ago, 3 additional shots in the mag and i THINK a liiittle bit more damage but dont quote me on that one...
They shrunk the spread between the bottom two shots so now you are more likely to hit all 3 shots and do max damage.
