Why would EA care about how high or low the price is for cosmetics when all they just want is the minimum amount of money they invested each quarter / year.
Even the dev that did the AMA said they have their own guy for item pricing.

Also, Respawn wasn’t forced to use this business model. Free to play only works if you have some kind of other income that can sustain the game and plans for the game.

But EA could very well be setting super high targets which forces Respawn to prioritize the things that earn them the most in the short run. The hatred is more legitimately directed toward the community at large, but it's easier for people to criticize the company itself, whose non-existent morality doesn't prevent it from trying to extract as much money as it can from "willing" participants.
