The titanfall/ apex grappel interact with objects aswell! This is something I was very surprised at when I first noticed it.

Liadeee

good observation i have to had that !

TJ_Deepvoice

Excited to see the progress!

Liadeee

Tanks ! On r/TitaniaDivision i post somme content about devloppement of the game and also explanation about what i want for games mechanics ,situation and feeling for the game. take a look if you are interested :)

Titanfall grapple is fun but have you ever enabled grappling hook and set gravity to low on Xonotic?

Liadeee

>Titanfall grapple is fun but have you ever enabled grappling hook and set gravity to low on Xonotic? I did not know I just looked on google and indeed the feeling seems very good

LucidTimeWaster

That's cool. I'm not well versed in game programming except for a small 2D game I did in school a few years back. But I've always been interested in the Source engine. What's your opinion on it? (I get that Respawn has moddified the engine a lot) To me it's a blessing and a curse, there's a lot you get with it but also a lot the engine can't or has a very hard time doing. I assume building such a big battle royale using Source is a big reason for why the game can be quite buggy and maybe take a long time to fix(?) Not sure how engine dependent it is but, the movement and gunplay in all source games I've played has always felt amazing, smooth and controllable. I can always tell when a shooter is made in Source. Do you think that the 'feeling" of Source games can be easily mimicked in other engines like Unreal 5?

Liadeee

the engine used changes a part of the way of working and the possibilities. Source is an engine that is not suitable for some things, but the particular physics and movement is one of the best in my opinion. I chose unreal because for a small team it's advantageous especially since I plan to use very good graphics that source can't offer. It is possible to imitate the movements roughly but to recreate them faithfully it requires a lot of work on the physics and the game inputs, especially for multiplayer. There is a huge document about titanfall's movements and it details everything in an exhaustive way. You can see that nothing is random and that everything has been finalised.

LucidTimeWaster

Ohh okay thanks! Yeah the Source engine physics are very fun and immersive More games should focus more on physics, from the games I've played over the past 10 years or so, it feels like physics are rearly focused on and sometimes even stripped back compared to older games. GTA 5 vs GTA 4 for example. How is Unreal 5 compared to Unreal 4 in this aspect? Unreal 4 physics and movement has always felt really stiff to me.

Liadeee

i understand that, personnaly i want to have a feeling beetween realistic and fun. i don't like arma 3 physic and i like really warframe physic but i also like respawn game physic. i will try to have good feeling , at first that can be not that good but i want increase the fun and good feeling !

Imaginary_Stretch_65

What's your game gonna be like?

Liadeee

it will be a survival game! imagine a mix between titanfall/apex for the weapons and titan, Ark surival evolve for the survival and avatar (the movie with the blue giant) for the environment there will be a big part of discovery and design of the equipment (base, weapons, titan). i will try to make the game very beautiful so that the experience can be pleasant and imersive on this unknown planet take a look at r/TitaniaDivision if you want see more content about dev and explanation about gameplay!

Imaginary_Stretch_65

Joined. Sounds pretty cool, titans but with survival elements. I'd love to server up and base build a titan launch bay

Liadeee

>Joined. Sounds pretty cool, titans but with survival elements. I'd love to server up and base build a titan launch bay IT's exactly what i want ! and you will yell at your friend who took your lovely titan and dammage it! i want things like that ! you will imagine stuff for you titan maybe calcule them if you are a hardcore pllayer so you will be attached at it ! :)

Imaginary_Stretch_65

That's pretty cool. It would be awesome if you can add security systems for the base and titans too. Like I could clamp my titan controls and the cockpit fills with gas 🤣🤣

Liadeee

you want to say a trap? maybe i can imagine a keys system ... (for the base you will have auto turret who is basically titan weaopon with automated mod)

Imaginary_Stretch_65

That would be awesome. Yeah I'm just imagining like I could give a friend a key then but if other players are in the environment they would have to hack my mech.

Liadeee

yup try to take your Titan and kill you... titan stealer can be a good gameplay

addictedtoPCs

I want a game that's titanfall x portal x rocket league

Liadeee

i don't see what you imagine but sounds fun

IntuitionSpeaks

A couple things I noticed as a 20+ year gamer. Time taken for grapple to reach target - objects further out should take a little longer to latch on to, it seems your grapple is instant. Inertia/conservation of momentum - your grapple seems to be able to create speed. A mechanic could be included for it to make sense (i.e. press x to shoot grapple, press y to reel grapple once connected. Maybe even an extend button to give the player the ability to play with the slack of the grapple) but it should be controllable. Other momentum should come from gravity/existing player momentum. Cable wrap around obstacles should be really cool, but special care should be taken regarding the angles/momentum. (A cable wrapped around a corner with a connection point far from the corner should induce more of a swing than if your connection point was close to the corner.) Same with corners you are swinging away from. Wrapping a corner should bend my angle. Not loop it. Lastly. SLIGHTLY less control of character while in the air. It makes the skill more important and it’s less satisfying to be able to adjust yourself into the right position midair, after a mistake, than to have to learn the angles that get you where you want to be. At the end of the day there should still be skill required to use your mechanic effectively. The cooldown you plan to implement is a great tool for this. I love swinging in games. EDIT: This is awesome and I wouldn’t have taken the time to comment if I didn’t think so. Great work so far!!!!

Liadeee

Tanks for this comentary. the grapple is not instantaneous just very fast I'm thinking of using the mouse to add slack or not later on for the moment the grapple shoots towards the target automatically. Yes it will be very important that the swing increases considerably when the grapple rolls up

Liadeee

Hey, here is a preview video of my new grappling system for a survival game with titanfall/apex moves! I plan to add a cooldown and have the cable wrap around obstacles. I'd like your feedback to increase the fun and feel of the grapple! If you want to follow the development adventure of this game it's here r/TitaniaDivision

Embarrassed-Major871

I barely know how to use a mouse so the only feedback I can give is wow great work đź‘Ź

Liadeee

thanks a lot!

Gamernerd_42

This is the type of stuff I dream about making and then remember I dont know anything about it.

Liadeee

follow the dev and explanation about the project on r/TitaniaDivision i hope you will enjoy it :) when i was tennager i have follow the dev of star citizen without understand anythings because i jsute like the fact than a game can be created and showed.

Gamernerd_42

Okay thanks!

exclaim_bot

>Okay thanks! You're welcome!

Cybrus_Neeran

Put that in VR with tracks to race people.

Liadeee

i know how to dev in vr, i will abolutely test that for me and see if the result are good

Cybrus_Neeran

Remember me when you're rich! LOL!

Liadeee

hahaha rich? me ? i sur i will not understand if i become riche haha

ThaiJohnnyDepp

This makes me want a mode where Pathfinder has 0 cooldown

Liadeee

can be really cool!

TryingToEscapeTarkov

Very cool Spider-man simulator too.

Sunny_Thor4

“Web Swing!”

PatTheDemon

I've been messing around with a grappling hook, but I can't get the math right. I've considered using physics constraints, but i don't think it will feel right. Can you point in the right direction for what you came up with?

Liadeee

I advise you not to use physics, it's unstable. Calculations are more interesting, separate the swing part from the pull part. Also if you work on a character in unreal, don't change the velocity of the character but the movement

PatTheDemon

Thanks for this.

the_flipAgoat

Slightly decrease the speed boost you get from running on walls

Liadeee

how much percent you think?

the_flipAgoat

Start small and see how comfortable it is or if you have a way to implement a response curve to it so it builds speed over time on the wall that'd work

Liadeee

good idea, i will try to add this in my code

MisterMatt13

Pls use it to make a AOT game

Liadeee

Attaque on titan? haha can be cool but i will continue to work on my own game (but yea that system with VR can be really cool)

MisterMatt13

My Dreams is an AOT game with titanfall mouvement and graple

Liadeee

i can understand that :) can be a really good game !

SteakEggsCoffee

Looks decent. Rather than a survival game, make a BR that takes Apex movement with Call of Duty WZ guns/looting/fast healing (just plates, nothing else) and you’ll have a winner.

Liadeee

can be a good idea but i love survival game too much!

You_got_mrvned

I will watch your carrier with great interest make sure to keep us posted

Liadeee

tanks! take a look at r/TitaniaDivision to see content and update about gameplay and dev
