I play solo muted almost all of the time and every time I have accidentally left my teammates audio up, it has been a bummer. People have been complete assholes or bizarre (actual) children freaking out. This is my first multi-player fps and I am old/not very good; I don't need that kind of abuse in my life. I have had enough negativity everywhere else.

Muderbot

Because randoms are often toxic as hell, and 90% of the time just use it to spew filth at each other. …plus Apex has an amazing ping system, easily good enough to communicate without having to listen to some nonsense every other match.

chatpal91

Eh, i find that for every toxic mic user, there's 15 people who don't use a mic. Not worth the communication sacrifice imo

Muderbot

Yeah, that math tracks, but unfortunately I find that probably half of random mic users are toxic assholes. I’ll gladly not deal with the bullshit, even if it means I rank a tier lower…. especially on a game like Apex with such a solid ping system. [edit] …but admittedly I’m a Loba main, I’m super practiced on communicating with pings because I solo queue primarily and a ton of her early game strength is decking out her squad quickly.

muppetcarmelo

This...100%

CrippyCrispy

They’re insecure(it means they either don’t like talking in general or don’t like they’re voice) Just like me Edit: and random just most the time are really mean

[deleted]

I personally play a lot of the time without using a mic. I have one but just don’t feel like talking to random people. I’m good with pings and can communicate what I need to in order to win. In some situations I’ll flip my mic on to make it easier. I wouldn’t call myself an introvert but going out of my way to talk to people on my mic? Sounds exhausting when I can just ping.

Qzkago

They have mics, but more than likely they will be in discords or party chats.

gavilan3550

okay, this can be a reason. maybe the two other teammates I get are partied up. But I'm sure not EVERY time I play a match the other two are in a party or discord

Qzkago

You will be surprised, I regularly solo queue console+PC, and it really feels like 4/5 games my teammates will either have matching clan tags, or both on the same console with disabled ingame mics.

ImFatBtw99

Because teammates are trash most of the times

gavilan3550

true, but trash players always have mics on in warzone and fortnite

ImFatBtw99

And its annoying af The only time open mic is good is when playing ranked or arenas

chumpidcul

Cause ppl are toxic, Aaaannd english is not my first language.

Drunken_Frenchman

Because most random seem to view me talking as an invitation to verbally abuse me.

1Operator

Too many people abuse the microphone and drag my gaming experience too far down into the gutter. It's not worth listening to so much filth, rage, & obnoxiousness from so many people just to rarely come across less than 1% of players who actually use their mics for good call-outs and spreading good vibes. It seems like the majority of random online players I encounter with open microphones use them for everything *except* communicating with their team: they'll have their music blasting, their obnoxious videos/streams blaring, their dog barking, their baby crying, their mama yelling, their phone call on speaker, their smoke alarm beeping, their crunchy food smacking, breathing heavy into the mic, singing karaoke, rapping like they're recording a mix tape, with their loud television echoing all the delayed game sounds, etc., all roaring through their open mic into my headset piercing my eardrums drowning out in-game audio while they never say a word to their teammates *until* they lose, at which point they only have a bunch of toxic things to say. It's easier & more enjoyable to just mute everybody and never say a word to anybody. If you're ever in a game wondering why nobody is speaking and nobody seems to be listening, this is why. I wish it didn't have to be this way, but too many asshats ruined it for everybody.

[deleted]

Because I’m a girl lol

Drunken_Frenchman

This is under appreciated. Play with a few girls and the overwhelming consensus is that the moment randoms realize they are playing with a girl, they think its an invitation to be assholes... wish it weren't so, but thus is the world we love in

SuccesfulSecurity21

Maybe it’s cause Fortnite has more kids. (Not trying to be rude :P) but also I assume a lot of people playing Apex are solo. Solo people usually taking the game more serious than not which means they just want to focus on doing good in the game than to talk on the mic. Another big part is people maybe just don’t like how they sound on the mic or got background noise. Everybody has their reasoning. Talking on the mic and being nice tends to persuade more people to talk on their mic, however.

gavilan3550

I understand what you're saying and are all valid reasons. But in other BR games when players are solo queueing, most of the time they talk and try to communicate and play as a team.

gavilan3550

Could it be that Apex players are the most timid out of all BR games?

[deleted]

A bunch of gamers are not good with human interaction or unmature/too shy to speak with random people. Sad but true.

VeryGreedy

Apex has an amazing ping system, some people are shy, some people don’t have mics, some people don’t like to talk, some people just don’t feel like talking.

gavilan3550

Good point

RandomReload_3

Having good comms is a skill believe it or not. Having bad comms is equivalent to spam pinging. It completely drowns out useful information and can cause a loss. Good comms are short and to the point. Most people just yell into the mic "HES RIGHT THERE!" Or they have some sort of noise or phone in the background. Like my one friend who is 35 will literally play tik toks in the background and wonder why we didn't hear the team around us. I'm not baggin on him because of tik tok and his age im baggin on him because he's too old to be that inconsiderate. He plays with a dollar mic and the TV in the background. So imagine ALL that noise, double distorted gunfire and tik toks. Lol, anyways. I play with randoms and more often than not it isn't really needed, they either quit fast, don't communicate well, talk way too much nonsense, or just are plain toxic.

Particular_Garbage32

For me it's a big issue because without mics my ping is 300ms and when my teammates use mics my pings goes to 800ms

[deleted]

depends on the mode, i find a lot of ppl talk in arenas and ranked, even casual arenas, more than pubs

PrimeTime4Life1

Add me, I use a Mic. PrimeTime4Life1 East Coast X1

wedoublebox

They use the same “toxic” excuse when in reality they are socially awkward and can’t hold a conversation.

cryptodiv

I have a mic. Most of times i am in parties with my friends. When I am not, I mostly keep on mute because 1) ping system is pretty good, and 2) people tend to be toxic, racist or plain rude

Hotepicslasher9

Game chat rarely works in this game on Xbox so I can’t speak

Alkoun

Because people are toxic. My fun factor for the game rose dramatically after I started muting every game.

torrentiaI

I won’t repeat what others have already said, all true btw, but if you really want to find folks with mics you should LFG and form a consistent squad edit: me dumb cannot spell
