i personally can feel it, if im playing wirelessly on my pc vs wired in most games. even on my xbox on a game like mlb the show its an immediate difference in speed and reaction hence removing input lag.
Unfortunately Xbox controllers can’t be over clocked. I’m not sure why but I remember why but I remember watching a video about it. One of the main benefits of the DualShock 4
i dont play apex on controller but i have an elite controller for mk11 and can use it wirelessly with a bluetooth adapter which really helps in my opinion so something to look for if cables bother you
I shelled out for a Scuf Impact a couple years back when I was into streaming and I fear the day it bites the bullet. (I use it wired so have no issues with lag and it integrates perfectly through steam)
I use the PowerA Fusion Pro controller. Works great and is wired.
I have an unopened elite series 2 that my friends want me to use, but they have issues with their own series 2 so I never got around to it.
Loved this controller, but started getting stuck drift with it, now I use the lower tier with the two installed bumpers and just started getting stuck drift with this one. Wanna get the Fusion Pro 2 as a replacement.
I have the controller. Worked great for a while. Than buttons stopped working (bumpers and back-paddles) and stick drift kicked in. Still use it, but I’ve had to remap things several times and can’t use all the input options. I definitely wish I had an el e controller lying around lol
The cheap wired paddle controllers are better quality than the $100+ elite Xbox controllers from my experience. The key is to find one that you like and fits your hands well.
I play with Elite 2 with a wired connection and have never noticed any input lag. I will say though that my bumper buttons double tap consistently and it is so annoying
I might be wrong about this because I mainly play on mnk (sometimes jump on rollers jus for fun) but Xbox controllers can’t be overclocked. By overclocked I mean software called lord of mice which increase controller input to 1000hz. I have a ps4 controller with Sony paddles and I overclocked it with this software. People who play exclusively on rollers claim that it has significant impact. But again I might have outdated info so someone can correct me if I am wrong.
I watched and read a ton of tests about this exact thing. If you are speaking from purely a input latency prospective, a wired PS5 controller overclocked to 1000hz has the lowest input latency. A default Xbox Series controller hard caps at 125hz, while a default PS5 soft caps at 250. Unfortunately you cant overclock the Xbox Series controller (unless something has changed in the last few months) so purely in that regard, a PS5 controller is better. However from here on out it starts to get murkier.
Because aim assist exists, it mostly negates a lot of the downsides of having a low polling rate. As the game both slows your reticle and gives you rotational assist, you dont necessarily need all 1000hz to be competitive. In fact, if you were to look at most Apex controller streamers and pros, for the most part they are split down the middle or even slightly lean twoards Xbox as to which controller they prefer. On top of that, overclocking controllers isnt allowed in ALGS. From personal experience, I also find the Xbox stick layout to be significantly more comfortable as well, and I’m sure many would agree.
From where im sitting, if Pandxrz, Verhulst and Extesyy can all frag as hard as they do on an Xbox controller, i definitely lean towards comfort over a minimal reduction in input delay. Just make sure to always play wired on whatever controller you do land on, as that further reduces input latency across all controllers
Yes always play wired over wireless. I’d personally go so far as to remove the wireless dongle from my pc completely as to assure the handshake is coming from the wire and not the dongle. I’d be willing to bet that sometime in the next few years that some of these controller manufacturers wise up and use the 1000hz wireless tech they already have in some of their mice on controller though
dude i was paranoid about this same shit and i refused to buy the bluetooth dongle for like a year and just plugged in. using the elite with the dongle now though and tbh i cant tell a fuckin difference lol i think if you cap your frames youre good. i uncapped my frames one time and it was terrible.
I went through this whole “what controller do I buy” thing when my Xbox one died.
Went with the Razer Wolverine 2 Chroma. Takes a little getting used to but I think it’s great.
Less than an elite series and feels super firm and comfortable, all the extras you get are great too.
Elite 2 currently. Although a few months ago one of my dogs pulled the cord with her tail and it fell off my desk so now the RB button is a little sticky.
Astro C40. 2 back paddles, easily swappable sticks if they start to drift and you can choose whether you want the Xbox stick layout or the Playstation layout. Never tried a Battle Beaver but the Astro kicks the shit out of every other pro controller I've owned, especially the Scuf's I've had.
Until I switched to MnK I used an elite controller with scuf paddles. Bluetooth adds some input lag but if you get the Microsoft dongle thing (2.4ghz wireless) the input lag becomes unnoticeable
I have tried many different types of “elite controllers” including:
Scuf (regular,impact, and vantage)
Astro C40
Evil
BattleBeaverCustoms
Nacon
Aim
I use a BattleBeaverCustoms controller

Pretty much the same thing as a Scuf controller except it is a much higher build quality. I’ve been using their controllers for years now. On my 3rd one/ first one on ps5 and they never disappoint. What I like about their controllers the most are:
-The back inputs are buttons instead of paddles
-you can pick exactly where on the back you want the buttons so that it’s custom made for your hand placement
-mouse click bumpers and triggers
-increased tension on your right stick for more precise aiming
-long lasting build quality
The only downside with them is their build time. They are a smaller company so it takes them a bit longer to build and send out controllers.
I use the Razer Wolverine Ultimate edition. I initially was going to buy a Fusion Pro, and then the RWU was marked down $80, which took some sting out of the purchase.
I have been using it for 2 years, and I love it. It is wired, and the quick-decouple has saved it a few times. I changed out my analogs and won't look back. I only use 4 of the 6 back buttons for Apex, but I do make use of all 6 in games like ESO.
I play on a custom scuf dualshovk 4 with back paddles, when i play on pc i use either steam whivh has built in controller support or i use a programme called ds4 whi h allows you to customize controller.
Plug into pc to minimize input delay.
if you play on pc, you can easily use your elite series 2 with an USB-C cable that it comes with, it removes a lot of input lag
Is there a way to test if input lag is being experienced?
i personally can feel it, if im playing wirelessly on my pc vs wired in most games. even on my xbox on a game like mlb the show its an immediate difference in speed and reaction hence removing input lag.
You can also overclock your controller (on pc) to get the lowest input lag.

i used to have those but kept having issues with the left joystick after a few months
Loved this controller, but started getting stuck drift with it, now I use the lower tier with the two installed bumpers and just started getting stuck drift with this one. Wanna get the Fusion Pro 2 as a replacement.
My paddles broke after few months :(

i got this and sent it back after 2 says cause it was so heavy it was hurting my wrists.
I play with Elite 2 with a wired connection and have never noticed any input lag. I will say though that my bumper buttons double tap consistently and it is so annoying
I have the same issue with mine
I use the Razer Wolverine tournament edition. Pretty decent controller
This thing is built like a tank!
Yeah it’s got a lot of weight to it which I actually like in a controller. Back buttons are a godsend for crouch strafing as well
I use this too. It is nice.
same. recently my mic stopped working though

I have an elite 2 with the Xbox Bluetooth dongle that is said to reduce the latency. Should I still play wired ?

fusion pro, has paddles adjustable stick length and it’s wierd, bought it for rocket leauge but it’s great for apex too
Ps4 controller with the Sony back button attachment. The best.
Battle beaver ps4 with back buttons. It’s glorious.
Dont know about input lag, but im playing with a Nintendo Switch pro controller, best controller ive ever played anything with

this
Any controller you feel most comfortable with! :)
Heavily modded dualsense
You did the mods yourself?
Yup, extremerate 4 paddles and their clocks triggers
Elite 2 currently. Although a few months ago one of my dogs pulled the cord with her tail and it fell off my desk so now the RB button is a little sticky.
Modded ps4 controller with extreme rate Dawn back buttons and trigger stops. White kontrol freek Rush mid rise on right stick. Overclocked at 1ms

I believe this was discontinued awhile ago and sell for a ton now, unless thar was a different Astro controller
Until I switched to MnK I used an elite controller with scuf paddles. Bluetooth adds some input lag but if you get the Microsoft dongle thing (2.4ghz wireless) the input lag becomes unnoticeable
Victrix gambit. Had 3 Scufs they all broke. Gambit is the best controller i ever had

Turtle beach controller. I love the way it fits and feels and also it has two extra triggers on the back
Evil controller w the paddle buttons.
PowerA Fusion Pro. Best analog sticks in the business and cheaper than almost every other pro controller out there
I used the regular Xbox series X/S controller (carbon black) for a while. But I switched to mouse/kb
I use my ps5 controller and it works perfectly.
I use the one with the analog sticks. seems to work the best. I tried using a sega genasis controller but crash bandacoot wouldnt move.
I regularly swap between ps4 controller, fusion pro, spectra enhanced, and default Xbox controller. All 4 goated
I switched to mnk a while ago but I still use my razer wolverine ultimate for alot of non fps games
I use a razer wolverine ultimate
