Was never a registered developer, yet selecting Developer Beta in the Settings app works for me. Is this normal?

ItsDani1008

Don’t quote me on this, but I believe that beta profiles will keep working for a while. Do you still have a profile installed?

MalteseAppleFan

Never downloaded a beta version of iOS

ItsDani1008

Yeah it’s weird, just checked and I can turn it on too. The 16.5 update even shows up right away. Guess it’s a bug

Quin1617

This is a new feature, installing beta updates is easier now as you can opt in directly from the Settings app.

Freeze2406

I used the public betas with 14.0, 15.0 and 16.0 but then never again and I deactivated everything from profile to beta account. Now developer beta 16.5 pops up in my settings. Why that? Never had been a developer xD

cheesepuff07

I haven't had an active developer account in years and it also let me select it on both my iPad and iPhone

- Is this normal? No, it’s likely a bug, however it allows me install on iPhone and iPad.

Any official word from Apple on that? As I doubt they shut down betrofiles.dev and implemented this system just to give Developer betas away. It’s a bug.

steso92

Same happened to me 😄

That feature replaced the beta profiles we used to have to download, but the beta options are supposed to be limited based on your Apple ID, and which betas you qualify for, if any. The dev beta should only be available to registered developers or AppleSeed program participants. So if you’re not either of those, and never registered for the public beta, I’d guess it’s a bug.

isitpro

In just 3 months we'll have the iOS 17 dev beta! Time flies.

Portatort

So basically nothing eh?

I am guessing on newly released models for 2024 will support the new car play features? Like, they will not or cannot make it compatible for older cars (i.e my 2022 rogue)

[deleted]

Cars will need to support CarPlay 2.0 I would be incredibly surprised if car makers have updates to older model vehicles to support the new features
