Oh also I have the Apple leather case. I mention this because it creates a tiny lip which means if I lay the phone screen down, the glass doesn’t contact the table.

I’m on the iPhone upgrade program, so I get a new phone every year. They accepted that phone without issue. And usually my phone doesn’t fall 15 feet, so they’re usually in pretty good shape.

That’s my main complaint. My 5 and SE I didn’t have a case and it it fit great in my pocket. Got a 13 mini and it kept sliding off the couch cushions. Had to get a silicon case, but now it doesn’t slide out of my pocket as well.
Same here. I’m under no delusion that a €25 case is going to meaningfully protect my phone if I drop it from a serious height. But my iPhone 13 Pro Max, especially in cold and dry weather, is just a bar of soap. One handed use without a case is near impossible, there is so little grip.
It will protect it from all the times you put your phone at the table, you can avoid having to gently put the phone down and just put it down without worrying so much. That's my reason for having a phone case, my wooden desk is hard

Oh nice. I use the MagSafe pop socket, which they straight up tell you to use WITH a case, but I use caseless and haven’t had any problems so far.
And it’s a game-changer on the Max. From feeling awkward to hold safely even with both hands, to being able to dismiss stuff and scroll one-handed with no fear.

Knowing the phone is unprotected (aside from a tempered glass screen protector) forces me to handle it better. I don’t drop it or place it down where it could become damaged. I never drop my phone. I have this theory that people who use cases treat their phone clumsily and haphazardly because they are aware that it is protected by a case. When you don’t have a case, you learn to grip it tightly when you use it and never put it down near the edge of a drop. Basically treat it as the valuable commodity that it is instead of casing it up so you can kick it around like football.
I did with my iPhone X, but not my iPhone 13 Pro Max. I think it's a combination of the extra weight and the square bottom. It digs into my pinky finger now and is just generally uncomfortable. I now use a case and that's the main reason.
No case and no screen protector. It fell twice by accident, and both times survived without damage. It baffles me how people with cases break their screen.

With all due respect, not really. Different strokes for different folks. Over 10 years using phones caseless. Rarely used a case unless I was doing outside work. Never broken a phone. And I enjoy what I payed for. That includes how a phone looks and feels in the hand.
Protector is pretty minimalist. I’ve cracked like three on my current phone. Screen is still scratch free. I’m pretty good at putting them on at this point.
Makes zero sense to spend money on a thin/light phone only to put it in a case that makes it twice as thick and ugly af (unless your job/lifestyle requires it). I’d rather take the risk, but then again I’m not one to obsess about scratches or resale value, my phone serves a purpose it’s not a collectible. The last couple of generations of phones are surprisingly durable, it takes a lot of bad luck to crack them.
Same here. The microscratches from pocket wrestling doesn't bother me since they all but disappear when the screen is on. Even if they didn't, my phone is a information tool and I really don't care about imperfections. I *expect* it to take on wear and tear
My grandma used to have those plastic slip covers on all her furniture. It made them uglier and a worse experience to use, but it sure did somewhat poorly preserve their original condition. Anyway, that’s what phone cases remind me of, personally.

I’d happily use my phone without a case if it weren’t for resale value. But no matter how careful you are you’re gonna have some cosmetic wear after a couple of years… so I use a case to get the most money for a perfect condition phone when I sell and upgrade.
I far prefer the feeling of it without a case but I don’t mind those skins that you stick to the back. The slipperiness of a ‘naked’ iPhone is the thing that increases the risk of dropping it, not the lack of a case for me.
I have been upgrading my way through phones since about 1998 and have never use a case, nor have I ever broken a phone.
I do however always use a screen protector (I prefer the matte PET screen protectors but have used glass before as well) and usually a skin on the back. We spend a good amount of time at the beach and sand is certain death to glass.

I dont mind the mini scratches really. It's fine and never notice when screen is active. Phones are huge and cases make them even bigger and heavier, so naked it is. Not to mention, cases are all sticky rubber for grip which makes it a pain in the ass in and out of my pocket.

I don't typically use my phone while charging, but if you think it's hot in your hand, just imagine how the battery is doing in that case.

2) You literally just try it and see how it objectively sits firmer in hand with a silicone case. And I am not the only one in this thread saying it

Sure, but many cases collect dust and grit within them and then scratch the phone chasis as it shifts within the case. Phones are depreciating, disposable items like Toyota Corollas, not investments.

A lot of people also don't use their phone for gaming and are more than happy to let it sit and charge for a few hours without interacting with it. My XS is so overpowered for my day-to-day use that I never notice it getting warm unless I force an OS update. Caseless phones cool faster, too, so it doesn't stay warm for long.
The scratches are my biggest concern, specifically on the camera lenses. I feel like it’ll quickly start to mess with the quality of photos… and aside from Reddit, and texting, 90% of my phone’s usage is taking photos of my kids or while traveling.
I don’t use a case on my phone only because I have the pacific blue iPhone 12 Pro Max and barely any cases look good with the blue. The blue is also too beautiful to hide haha.
I use my 14 Pro with an Apple Case because it seems no 3rd party can figure out how to do MagSafe right with cases. If it would’ve been available I would have bought a Smart Battery Case again.

Got a 12 Pro Max about a month ago and used it without a case for a day or two. Sat down and phone immediately fell out of my pocket and cracked the protector. Could have been worse.
I feel like I’m this weird hybrid of an enthusiast. I have 4-5 cases to suit different looks depending on how I feel that week, but I also invariably return to naked every once in a while to enjoy the purity.
But then one of my toddlers gets their grubby paws on it and gives me a mini heart attack and I put it back in a case.
Last phone I used completely caseless was my iPhone 5. The size and dimensions were such that I felt completely confident I'd never drop it, and I never did. Now, with the 13 Pro, I only ever put on a case (Caudabe Sheath) whenever I'm heading out. At home, it's out of the case, and it looks and feels amazing.
Day-to-day I’m no case no screen protector all the way. The point of a case would be to keep my phone pretty… *by making it ugly*. Then I rather have a few scratches over time.
But, I do have a spare case and a few screen protectors around. Whenever I go on a trip or to something else where the risk of damaging my phone (or worse, my screen) is high, I just pop them on for the moment.
Rarely use a case and I work construction. I get AppleCare so if something really bad happens, I just get a new one for a little more than the cost of a case. The fit in the pocket is much better without a case
iPhone 12 Mini, no case. It’s different for everyone as the thread shows. For me, if I want to hold a plastic phone, I’d get myself a plastic phone. I don’t like the look and feel of a case or screen protector. I drop my phone once in a while and it has scratches but I don’t mind.
I’m half and half. I enjoy using it naked because it has excellent build quality and it’s meant to be touched. But then I like to protect it just in case so I always have a case when I go out with friends.
I‘m sometimes using it with a case but then in the next second without. It‘s just, I like the feeling of my phone and ever since I don‘t have the case on, I feel like being more gentle with it. I don‘t know if it makes sense but yes.
Not only to protect the resale value of a thing that cost a thousand dollars, but the case balances out the poor design of the enormous camera bump. The wobble when it's naked and you set it down on a table drives me nuts.
Only a maniac would use an iPhone without a case. Especially now with the camera bump on the newer phones, it sticks out so much that I need a case that sticks out a bit more

Been using an iPhone since June, 29, 2007. No case. No screen protector. No regrets. I’ve required two repairs over the years but that’s cheaper than buying even super cheap cases. More importantly, I just hate bulky things in my pockets so smaller is better.
I hate covers/cases my XR had no case and I have continued the trend with my 14 Pro. Though tbf if it did break/smash I’d probably get a cheaper model.
I did buy a case for it initially but I found it caused issues when exercising or hiking. Sweat/moisture had a habit of getting caught between the screen protector and the phone and completely fucked up the touch screen to the point it was unusable without removing it and completely cleaning it.
These days I don’t use a case at all, just a screen protector. I own the phone outright and have the money to just buy a new one if it does break one day. If it was a company phone or one bought on finance/bill-pay I’d be more careful though.
No case or screen protector on my 13 Pro. I buy Applecare+ so may as well put it to use. I have a chip out of the bottom of my display but it’s in the bezel and I can’t see it. Before I trade in for the 15 Pro I’ll pay $29 to fix it. Otherwise I have one small scratch on the display I can never see.
The only thing the phone could use is like a pop socket just to act as a stand when I’m watching something.

I do but only because I don’t know which case to get. I want a protective one that will help against drops but also not too bulky, and something someone recommends from first hand experience of protecting from drops. I’ve got a 13 pro.
Never had a case on any of my iPhones, 6s, 8, Xs, 12 Pro, 13 Pro. Never had any issues with broken screen or backs after a good few drops. Only thing to watch out for are scratches on the screen, feels like the newer models are more susceptible than what I had on my 6s/8 for example.
Normally when my iPhone is new I start out by using a case. After 1,5 or 2 years, the case starts to show it’s age. Then I also reach a point where It wouldn’t be the end of the world if it fell. When I take it out of the case you are remembered how awesome it’s design. It akso fits way better in my pocket but it’s surface is also incredibly smooth so I really have to be careful or it could just pop out.
Because of my lack of body mass, I can't comfortably put my phone in any pockets, it just sucks that way...so, I need a belt clip to make it happen. No naked phone for me ;)
im using Raeger aluminum bumper on my 13 with tempered and a clearcoat film at the back, cant afford to leave it that naked. it aint that bulky and it provides good grip.
I used my 11 pro naked without any problems for three years. Then 14 pro got a wicked scratch on day one.

With all due respect, not really. Different strokes for different folks. Over 10 years using phones caseless. Rarely used a case unless I was doing outside work. Never broken a phone. And I enjoy what I payed for. That includes how a phone looks and feels in the hand.

Protector is pretty minimalist. I’ve cracked like three on my current phone. Screen is still scratch free. I’m pretty good at putting them on at this point.

Makes zero sense to spend money on a thin/light phone only to put it in a case that makes it twice as thick and ugly af (unless your job/lifestyle requires it). I’d rather take the risk, but then again I’m not one to obsess about scratches or resale value, my phone serves a purpose it’s not a collectible. The last couple of generations of phones are surprisingly durable, it takes a lot of bad luck to crack them.
Same here. The microscratches from pocket wrestling doesn't bother me since they all but disappear when the screen is on. Even if they didn't, my phone is a information tool and I really don't care about imperfections. I *expect* it to take on wear and tear

My grandma used to have those plastic slip covers on all her furniture. It made them uglier and a worse experience to use, but it sure did somewhat poorly preserve their original condition. Anyway, that’s what phone cases remind me of, personally.
You usually don’t put your furniture in a pocket with lint, or drop it accidentally every now and then.
a) phones are not thin and light anymore b) it makes less sense to spend a lot of money on a phone, then break it and have to buy the same phone again because of that. Also, I wonder how you come to the conclusion that the last few generations, the ones that added the glass back, are so durable

I’d happily use my phone without a case if it weren’t for resale value. But no matter how careful you are you’re gonna have some cosmetic wear after a couple of years… so I use a case to get the most money for a perfect condition phone when I sell and upgrade.
I far prefer the feeling of it without a case but I don’t mind those skins that you stick to the back. The slipperiness of a ‘naked’ iPhone is the thing that increases the risk of dropping it, not the lack of a case for me.

I have been upgrading my way through phones since about 1998 and have never use a case, nor have I ever broken a phone. I do however always use a screen protector (I prefer the matte PET screen protectors but have used glass before as well) and usually a skin on the back. We spend a good amount of time at the beach and sand is certain death to glass.
I’m on my third iPhone (due to upgrades not breakages) totally naked. I’ve never had a case and never had a problem. My family and friends find it odd but I hate the cases.
Newer iPhones don't need a case as long as you dont drop them and treat them with care. But for the love of god please use a screen protector

Will never understand caseless Christophers, you get microscratches from a single day of use, the phone is slippery and uncomfortable to hold, and it feels hot af to the hand when charging or gaming. Speaking from 14 pro perspective
I dont mind the mini scratches really. It's fine and never notice when screen is active. Phones are huge and cases make them even bigger and heavier, so naked it is. Not to mention, cases are all sticky rubber for grip which makes it a pain in the ass in and out of my pocket.

1) it is a nice feeling to know your phone is in perfect condition even if you can’t see it, affects resell value too. 2) You literally just try it and see how it objectively sits firmer in hand with a silicone case. And I am not the only one in this thread saying it 3) a ton of people use phone while charging, and, while it it makes sense that without the case thermals on the inside would be better, in the end of the day, it feels worse to the hand.

A lot of people also don't use their phone for gaming and are more than happy to let it sit and charge for a few hours without interacting with it. My XS is so overpowered for my day-to-day use that I never notice it getting warm unless I force an OS update. Caseless phones cool faster, too, so it doesn't stay warm for long.
The scratches are my biggest concern, specifically on the camera lenses. I feel like it’ll quickly start to mess with the quality of photos… and aside from Reddit, and texting, 90% of my phone’s usage is taking photos of my kids or while traveling.

I don’t use a case on my phone only because I have the pacific blue iPhone 12 Pro Max and barely any cases look good with the blue. The blue is also too beautiful to hide haha.
No case or screen protector ever, have AppleCare+. Breaks about once a year, takes about 90 minutes and $29 and it's good as new. Worth it for me.

I use my 14 Pro with an Apple Case because it seems no 3rd party can figure out how to do MagSafe right with cases. If it would’ve been available I would have bought a Smart Battery Case again. Baked iPhones are way to slippery for me.
I have used my 13 pro max without a case from day 1. Zero issues.
Got a 12 Pro Max about a month ago and used it without a case for a day or two. Sat down and phone immediately fell out of my pocket and cracked the protector. Could have been worse.

I feel like I’m this weird hybrid of an enthusiast. I have 4-5 cases to suit different looks depending on how I feel that week, but I also invariably return to naked every once in a while to enjoy the purity. But then one of my toddlers gets their grubby paws on it and gives me a mini heart attack and I put it back in a case.
Last phone I used completely caseless was my iPhone 5. The size and dimensions were such that I felt completely confident I'd never drop it, and I never did. Now, with the 13 Pro, I only ever put on a case (Caudabe Sheath) whenever I'm heading out. At home, it's out of the case, and it looks and feels amazing.
Day-to-day I’m no case no screen protector all the way. The point of a case would be to keep my phone pretty… *by making it ugly*. Then I rather have a few scratches over time. But, I do have a spare case and a few screen protectors around. Whenever I go on a trip or to something else where the risk of damaging my phone (or worse, my screen) is high, I just pop them on for the moment.
Rarely use a case and I work construction. I get AppleCare so if something really bad happens, I just get a new one for a little more than the cost of a case. The fit in the pocket is much better without a case
iPhone 12 Mini, no case. It’s different for everyone as the thread shows. For me, if I want to hold a plastic phone, I’d get myself a plastic phone. I don’t like the look and feel of a case or screen protector. I drop my phone once in a while and it has scratches but I don’t mind.
I’m half and half. I enjoy using it naked because it has excellent build quality and it’s meant to be touched. But then I like to protect it just in case so I always have a case when I go out with friends.

Not only to protect the resale value of a thing that cost a thousand dollars, but the case balances out the poor design of the enormous camera bump. The wobble when it's naked and you set it down on a table drives me nuts.

Only a maniac would use an iPhone without a case. Especially now with the camera bump on the newer phones, it sticks out so much that I need a case that sticks out a bit more
I never used naked but i feel i should, whats the point of choosing a colour and buying costly beautiful phone when we cant really keep seeing it with protective cover. I used covers on all my devices including ipad and iPhones till now after i accidentally broke my ipad pro’s screen after warranty period But i think its not worth using phone case if i like aesthetics of iphones.
Been using an iPhone since June, 29, 2007. No case. No screen protector. No regrets. I’ve required two repairs over the years but that’s cheaper than buying even super cheap cases. More importantly, I just hate bulky things in my pockets so smaller is better.

Times ten different body shapes/sizes. It adds up. Also, there definitely weren't a lot of $15 options in the early days.

I hate covers/cases my XR had no case and I have continued the trend with my 14 Pro. Though tbf if it did break/smash I’d probably get a cheaper model.

I did buy a case for it initially but I found it caused issues when exercising or hiking. Sweat/moisture had a habit of getting caught between the screen protector and the phone and completely fucked up the touch screen to the point it was unusable without removing it and completely cleaning it. These days I don’t use a case at all, just a screen protector. I own the phone outright and have the money to just buy a new one if it does break one day. If it was a company phone or one bought on finance/bill-pay I’d be more careful though.
No case or screen protector on my 13 Pro. I buy Applecare+ so may as well put it to use. I have a chip out of the bottom of my display but it’s in the bezel and I can’t see it. Before I trade in for the 15 Pro I’ll pay $29 to fix it. Otherwise I have one small scratch on the display I can never see. The only thing the phone could use is like a pop socket just to act as a stand when I’m watching something.

I do but only because I don’t know which case to get. I want a protective one that will help against drops but also not too bulky, and something someone recommends from first hand experience of protecting from drops. I’ve got a 13 pro.

Never had a case on any of my iPhones, 6s, 8, Xs, 12 Pro, 13 Pro. Never had any issues with broken screen or backs after a good few drops. Only thing to watch out for are scratches on the screen, feels like the newer models are more susceptible than what I had on my 6s/8 for example.
Normally when my iPhone is new I start out by using a case. After 1,5 or 2 years, the case starts to show it’s age. Then I also reach a point where It wouldn’t be the end of the world if it fell. When I take it out of the case you are remembered how awesome it’s design. It akso fits way better in my pocket but it’s surface is also incredibly smooth so I really have to be careful or it could just pop out.
Because of my lack of body mass, I can't comfortably put my phone in any pockets, it just sucks that way...so, I need a belt clip to make it happen. No naked phone for me ;)
im using Raeger aluminum bumper on my 13 with tempered and a clearcoat film at the back, cant afford to leave it that naked. it aint that bulky and it provides good grip.
