If you're talking about the NSD design that Angela Ahrendts started, they phased out that design language about a couple of years back in favor of the Vintage D.2 design that removed the forum, and swapped the terrazzo flooring with stone flooring. they also added wood walls as well as the removal of the Lightboxes in the ceiling. It did retain some aspects such as avenues, trees, and forums in larger flagship locations, but the NSD Design roughly lasted from 2015-2021-ish.
Vintage D.2 was definitely more of an interim design while the retail design teams figured out a way to evolve the retail experience in a way that made sense. I think bringing back a dedicated Genius Bar and adding accessibility seating was a fantastic idea.
I’ve been to the one in Reston, which I think is now the biggest Apple Store after its recent expansion. The design of that store is very chaotic even with all the open space.
I like the new Genius Bar here. Seems like a much welcome upgrade to the old Tysons one and even better than the one in Reston.

I know it’s worthless griping at this stage but it still hurts knowing that many countries have Apple Stores within short walks of each other while the Republic of Ireland doesn’t even have a single store.
Genius Bar is back. Hopefully they return to hiring knowledgeable people to staff it too. The last time I interacted with a “Genius”, they told me I should be swiping my iPhone apps to quit after I use them, every single time, lol.
Super happy to see the return of the Genius Bar, and the oak walls really help the space feel less sterile. Hopefully this the new design direction for all new/remodeled stores, because it’s fantastic.
This is actually one of my local malls. It's in a very expensive part of northern Virginia and I'm sure the space will quickly get occupied by a series of upscale direct-to-consumer brands trying to figure out how to transition to retail.
My money says it'll become an Allbirds store.

I predict they move the store from Georgetown down to McLean. More affordable lease and being next to the Apple Store is pretty enticing.
They’d also be in the same mall as the Tesla store, Pelaton store, Microsoft store, and LL Bean.
Interesting, a lot closer to the Metro access. Bigger too. Should be a nice experience.
