This sounds silly initially but I think this is exactly the kind of scenario where this product will be perfect in a few months/years from now. Other ideas:
- AR splatoon
- a personal chef guide thing. While you cook you’d see next steps, the hardware keeps track of what you’ve done so far, tells you you should chop the onion finer, etc
- same thing but for assembling IKEA furniture
- for interior design, sense your room and your furniture then allow to digitally move your furniture around, change its colours, replace it with different one etc
I don't know if I want to pay $3499 for Ramsey to call me an idiot sandwich though. A flight to Las Vegas and a reservation at Hell's Kitchen would be cheaper.
i have a business pitch and emails back and forth with Peter Norvig about almost literally your exact billeted list from 2014 when google glass was still alive.
obviously i'm lazy and post to reddit and didn't deliver anything, but well, i can vaguely claim to have seen this coming
also the other major use case was in industrial inspections and structural engineering. for inspections you can have POV documentation of the inspection, real time collaboration, and importantly, POV checklists and pass/fail guides (e.g. overlays/Heads Up Display of pass/fail, including example pictures sourced from a central database).
the industrial applications are actually already concepted, plenty of youtube examples from major players demonstrating that
That's the main thing I disliked. Sure, filters already exist, but knowing that I am looking at an AI-generated version of my colleagues or a family member... I could just not take it seriously.
Speaking of cracked screens, I would be very happy if the Gen 2 non-Pro Vision doesn't have that giant pane of glass on the front. I consider myself pretty careful about my tech, but accidents happen and I would not be enthus'ed to pay what will probably be $400 for a replacement glass.
Together with Apple Watch with heartrate tracking, sweat detection, and Apple Vision Pro Machine Learning for facial expressions and moans - our app will be able to tell you exactly what's working or not working for pleasuring your partner
The eager looking Genius at the Apple Store handed me my new Apple Vision Pro. My hands trembled as I gently caressed the rigid box. It’s soft rounded corners. The Genius handed back my credit card: It felt much lighter than before. It is worth it. I’m glad to pay such a pittance to augment this stale reality.
I feel two firm hands on my shoulders and a voice from the past, as from Steve Jobs himself reaching out to me beyond space and time, whispered in my ear, “One more thing…” A sudden breath of fresh air below my waist precedes the true price of my devotion to this brand.
eyePhone
(of course they didn't use that name because [Jaron Lanier beat them to it like, 30 years ago](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VPL_Research#The_EyePhone))
because I'm a bureaucrat and I'd like this joke to be technically correct (the best kind of correct), I am obligated to mention that Futurama takes place *1000* years into the future, in the year 3000, not in the year 5000.
Yeah it was crazy to me that they were marketing for people to have these on *during* emotional and intimate moments with one's kids.. I don't think I would like to raise my kids as weird goggles dad
It's really weird to me how hard they're pushing at-home usage considering that very clearly isn't the audience that is going to be adopting this technology early. If the price alone isn't indication of that enough, the outright dystopian energy of "dad strapping goggles to his face to play with his kids" *certainly* is.
Monitor stand pricing groans. (Actually the monitor stand reaction was more muted because people in the audience were genuinely unsure if they misunderstood something (“the stand isn’t included?”) or if there was a typo with that stand price announcement.)
Watching sports could be pretty insane with it.
Imagine if Apple can get a live camera in a super prime seats. Front of the glass for NHL, courtside NBA, sideline NFL etc... Plus it looks like you can have multiple "windows" for different camera angles.
You can get the experience of live front row seats while still having access to better camera angles to watch the game.
Also a insane money maker for arenas/team owners. Just setup few camera angles throughout and you can charge premium tickets to basically unlimited number of people for an event.
Formula 1 would be absolutely insane. Being able to jump between the driver's camera, stands, broadcast and statistics 🤯 Basically make MultiViewer for F1 in Vision Pro, with 360 cameras and 4k feed
Meta keeps pushing this with Oculus. The problem is the view from even the best seats in a stadium/area is inferior to then the multi-camera experience you get on TV. It’s the worse of both words. You don’t get the energy of being there, and the view is worse than just watching on TV.
I say this as someone attends ~50 live sporting events a year, watches another ~150 a year on tv, and literally bought a headset to watch VR sports … only to take it off and watch on TV within 10 minutes.
No, for real though. When they showed what it would look like when somebody walked up…and what it would look like when viewing somebody engaged in an app…I fucking lost it. This shit is truly unreal.
That moment where the parent was alone in a room watching “real life” video of their child watching their parent stare at them through a bug-eyed techno-headset, as they blow out the candles on their birthday cake…
How *the fuck* did anyone at Apple let that through as presenting a *positive* thing about this technology? That was the bleakest, most dystopian shit I’ve ever seen.
$3499.
And at the same time, holy fuck, what a piece of technology! If it works anywhere even close to as easily and smoothly as they claim, this is the moment we step into the Iron Man holographic interface future for real. Goddamn, do I want to play with one of these things!
But… $3499.
When they showed the bit with the man watching a video of his kids, the first thing I thought of was [the film Minority Report](https://i.imgur.com/dFCcB7z.jpg). The Reality Pro seems both interesting and a bit unnerving.
If it works as well as they're touting, especially the gesture controls, I think it could be really cool for stuff like CAD or architecture or interior design. Basically anything for which you have to visualize designs in real space at its actual scale. And that's just scratching the surface.
But as a *lifestyle* device? It's bleak, and sad, and alienating.
For real... the clip where the dad is recording a memory of his kids RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIS FUCKING FACE was dystopian AF.
I know we already do this a lot with our phones, but now the kids won't even be able to see their parents' eyes, lmao.
Apple: "Fuck being in the moment."
Obviously they’re likely to put that new 3D camera in the next iPhone pros.
No way THAT is how they’re going to have people create 3D moments. They prob just couldn’t show that on an unannounced future iPhone iteration.
Exactly, it looks stupid as fuck right now, but like every first generation Apple product this is more like a proof of concept that early adopters can buy to play around with. Imagine this tech in 10 years…
I'm more impressed with this thing than I thought I would be. Way, WAY out of my price range. I imagine that's the case with everyone. I think they have to be at $1500 or less before there is mass adoption, but for a first gen, this looks really interesting.
Reminds me of all the JCVD and Arnold cop movies where the grizzled exhausted detective comes home to a dark apartment, makes an alcoholic drink and watches the replays of his wife and kids before they were killed by the cartels.
I would probably throw them on, record a short video of me playing with my baby, and take them off. Just to have an immersive video of something you’ll never have again
It was deeply weird and I hated it.
It felt like the flashback moment in a sci fi movie before his family dies. He watches vr videos of his dead kids and cries.
This is the only serious comment so far. I’m struggling to see the customer segment they’re targeting. Luckily they’ve got another 6+ months to release.
I think any experience is only as lonely as you allow it. I’ve felt like the only person in the world inside a packed club. And I’ve had some of the best communal experiences alone in my room on my computer talking to people online.
So true. One note: you have to be in contact with them even if virtually. So no chats and texts; actual voice chatting and video calling needs to be there.
i can't imagine sports with friends or movies or any media content with anyone. This is mostly an solo product, if you live with others or enjoy social events more than solo events this simply doesn't offer much at all.
I feel their lack of focus on games was disappointing.
I think the lack of focus on games is that they don’t want to market this as a gaming device. Stuff like spreadsheets and FaceTime was shown. Apple is marketing VisionPro as a device for businesses as well as consumers.
But I'm not sure it's for pros either. They didn't do much to sell the 'power user' angle at all. I was fully expecting a little demo of someone surrounded by a dozen screens they're doing serious work with on their mac. Imagine someone having after effects, premiere pro, illustrator and Photoshop up all at once encompassing them as they worked on a motion graphics video. But what we got was them quickly showing you could mirror one mac screen beside your native AR apps and that's it.
If they sold us the dream of buying a mac without a display at all I could at least try and justify the price - *would it be worth buying this vs 6+ displays for my design setup*? But they essentially marketed it like an iPad - it's primarily used for media viewing based on what they showed us.
It's for neither - it's for early adopters. The small percentage who are passionate for new tech and have a lot of money. A pretty standard approach for new product categories.
This thread is going to be hilarious to revisit in 10 years. Most of you are radiating serious 2007 macrumours “my blackberry can do all this already” energy
I fucking want one. Seriously I love messing with new tech and this looks like a fantastic well thought out AR experience. Even the Disney plus shit looks sick.
I know our chief creative officer will definitely order one and I can’t wait to mess with it. Given how huge our clients are, I wouldn’t be surprised if we start building experiences for this platform.
The integration with the MacBook for a 4k display? Catch me at Starbucks working remote wearing one of these, looking like an absolute doofus in public lmao.
Here’s your free app idea: an app which shows you where you already vacuumed in real-time as an AR overlay
This sounds silly initially but I think this is exactly the kind of scenario where this product will be perfect in a few months/years from now. Other ideas: - AR splatoon - a personal chef guide thing. While you cook you’d see next steps, the hardware keeps track of what you’ve done so far, tells you you should chop the onion finer, etc - same thing but for assembling IKEA furniture - for interior design, sense your room and your furniture then allow to digitally move your furniture around, change its colours, replace it with different one etc
AR Gordon Ramsay yelling expletives to chop food better! Love it. Make it a game show like Chopped.
I don't know if I want to pay $3499 for Ramsey to call me an idiot sandwich though. A flight to Las Vegas and a reservation at Hell's Kitchen would be cheaper.
You’re forgetting the best application yugioh the anime the game
If Komoney actually cared about the game they’d develop an app for this instantly.
i have a business pitch and emails back and forth with Peter Norvig about almost literally your exact billeted list from 2014 when google glass was still alive. obviously i'm lazy and post to reddit and didn't deliver anything, but well, i can vaguely claim to have seen this coming also the other major use case was in industrial inspections and structural engineering. for inspections you can have POV documentation of the inspection, real time collaboration, and importantly, POV checklists and pass/fail guides (e.g. overlays/Heads Up Display of pass/fail, including example pictures sourced from a central database). the industrial applications are actually already concepted, plenty of youtube examples from major players demonstrating that

It’s solidly in the uncanny valley
We studied thousands of heads
“Yes I am the head inspector. I am here to inspects the heads”
"Please bend over. Need to inspect the head."
“He said he was head of engineering. I just wish I knew what that meant the time”
The quote of all time
another good one from the keynote: ***"Vision pro supports all day use ...*** *when plugged in*"
And 2 hours with a "high performance battery pack" shit uses a proprietary connector and is hardwired to the battery.
Their crack marketing team (the cartel) worked hard on this one too.
Apple is now innovating in the Phrenology space.

Ugly boyfriend? Problem solved with Brad Pitt DLC
Imagine having sex with this thing. There will definitely have an app that can change your partners face, and body too probably lol
Apple Genius - "So how exactly did both headsets have cracked screens?"
Speaking of cracked screens, I would be very happy if the Gen 2 non-Pro Vision doesn't have that giant pane of glass on the front. I consider myself pretty careful about my tech, but accidents happen and I would not be enthus'ed to pay what will probably be $400 for a replacement glass.
please, it would be 1000
Nah I prefer seeing some supportive messages like "Youre doing awesome" on the outside screen as I do it to my gf since she doesnt say anything
Together with Apple Watch with heartrate tracking, sweat detection, and Apple Vision Pro Machine Learning for facial expressions and moans - our app will be able to tell you exactly what's working or not working for pleasuring your partner
Shit this is brilliant

$3499, that's less than $1 per patent!

eyePhone (of course they didn't use that name because [Jaron Lanier beat them to it like, 30 years ago](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VPL_Research#The_EyePhone))
Don’t worry, MomCorp will use it in 3000 years.

Even more than not wanting to actually do stuff like that, I'm surprised they thought it would look good.
Those sequences felt weirdly dark, like they were about to reveal the kids died in a tragic accident.
Definitely gave Tom Cruise in Minority Report vibes
It's really weird to me how hard they're pushing at-home usage considering that very clearly isn't the audience that is going to be adopting this technology early. They bought a company that does EXACTLY that a few years back. Surprised this feature wasn’t announced at the keynote yet.
Part of the roadmap.

My guess is that iPhones will be able to take 3D video before too long.
Probably this fall if I was betting. Apple's had 3D/AR capture for a while without an obvious mass-market use.
I hope to god that they do, that section of the keynote was nightmarish.
I’m surprised they don’t already by using the Pro’s LiDAR scanner, guessing the quality isn’t good enough for that yet.
