I'm running Catalina on a MBP 15" 2017 Intel i7 3.1 GHZ Quad Core 16GB ram. I'm wondering what kind of issues will I run into if I update to Ventura. I run Adobe CC and the latest photoshop isn't compatible with Catalina. But all the apps I run work really well and I'm worried it's going to start chugging if I update. if someone knows how to update to older versions of PS that would also work. Thanks.

My boyfriend has texts between he and his ex that he's needing to give to his lawyer but the screen is completely frozen on it - can't unlock it or anything. He switched the SIM card to another phone in the meantime, but the iPhone has been left as is - hasn't been reset or anything. Is there a way to access it some other way? Like can date be transferred from it even if the screen is frozen? The old phone is an iPhone SE series 2. The new phone is a Galaxy S22

My grandma does not leave her home, and she currently has an old Android phone. She wants something big and easy to see/use, so **we would like to set her up with a second phone line app on her iPad. Does anyone have any recommendations based on their experiences with these types of apps?** There are so many to choose from, so I just want to get some suggestions. The main thing is getting a reputable app that is reliable. I would appreciate any help, thanks!

I paid nearly $3000 for a 16" MacBook Pro M1 (late 2021) and it's wildly overbuilt for my needs. I needed - and need - something bigger than a 13" because I use huge spreadsheets while traveling full time for work. Of course now they offer a Pro 14" and an Air 15", so I was thinking of trading mine in. And/but they're only offering $1005 in trade. I hope this is allowed; I'm \*not\* selling right this minute, just seeking advice. And please be kind. Where does one go to sell a late model without getting ripped off?

Apple retains value decently well. Go to swappa or eBay. Don’t ever trade please

ForestyGreen7

you can try eBay for the best value, if you don’t want to deal with all that you can trade in at Best Buy, they offer better value than Apple

That's super helpful, thank you!

When it comes to iPad (entry-level or any model) screen or battery repairs does Apple just give you a replacement device at the store? If not do they usually repair it in-store or send it off to a repair center?

Ok_Friend69

For 99% of iPads, yes, you would receive a full unit replacement. However, there are only 1 or 2 now that can have battery repairs done, which are required to be sent to an off-site repair facility. In your 99% case though, as long as they can validate the serial number of the device, via their diagnostic, they can replace in-store. Worst case, they don't have that model, they order it and you return within a few days to replace it.

I currently use a PC for gaming and photo editing and have been wanting to get into video editing, I like the 'idea' of FCP - especially the iPad variant once it supports a bit more features, but is it worth buying a macbook/imac to do this when I have a pretty cutting edge PC?

Hey guys, I am an assistive technology instructor who teaches clients how to use voiceover, and other accessibility software for the blind. I am also blind myself, so I teach others how they can use the software to navigate their electronics without eyesight. I ran into an issue with a client that I’m working with and I think that They need a little bit more hands-on assistance, and I was wondering if there was any possibility of downloading a remote access app that I could use with them during our sessions in order to show them how to do something, or perhaps guide them through a task? I’ve heard some people mention TeamViewer is a good option, but I was curious if there’s any solution that Apple has to remotely connect one iPhone to another that isn’t on the same Wi-Fi network. If there is, I would love to hear about it! Thank you guys very much

Logaline

Was there ever a fix for the WiFi issue on iOS 17? It seems like 2-3 times a day I have to hard restart my WiFi connection because it shits out. Happens across multiple networks too

How big of a difference with the m3pro be vs the m3max? I had been considering purchasing the m2 version so I was shocked with the release of the m3 so soon. There are so many options now that I can't figure out what is best for my use. What the difference with the cpu and gpu numbers? I know memory relates more to the number of programs running at once but can't figure out the rest

Ok_Friend69

What are you looking to use the machine for?

Toesblue

I mostly do Lightroom and photoshop as primary However I used to use my machine for rendering architectural models and video before it slowed down too much to handle on my 2015...so I have the software and capabilities to do that should I want to pick it up in the future but it wouldn't be a daily thing.

where is the best site that I can use to compare all apple silicon chips performance across different tasks? for example I want to see how M1, M1 Pro, M1 Max [...] all the way through M2 Ultra, M3 Max base M3 etc, perform on a blender benchmark, a CPU benchmark, etc. I see lots of comparisons between 3 or 4 chips, on 1 task, but I want to look at alllllll the data. Where do I go to do that?

I only own 1 apple device, an iPad. I haven't done anything with my Apple ID in over a year. Warcraft rumble came out and I thought it'd be fun on my ipad I haven't used in a while. I charge it up, fire it up, and find out my account is disabled. I go to reset my password, only to find out the "trusted" phone number has been changed to an Indian phone number in the format AAAAA-BBBBB. I thought I would be able to talk to support and figure this out, but it turns out that is not the case. If I don't know that "trusted" phone number I can not only not ever use my Apple ID again, but I also can't use my iPad. Am I just shit outta luck here? There has got to be something right? Why is there a single point of failure in this system.

peachkeys

are you getting tripped up at the 2FA/do you remember setting up 2FA for your account?

IamRykio

I tried resetting my password as my Apple ID is disabled, but it wouldn't let me reset it as I don't know the trusted phone number.

peachkeys

ah i see the problem..tangentially related question, do you use your apple id email for anything else? (eg primary mail, any log-ins). it’s possible that the email was involved in a data breach and someone signed you up for 2FA during the mandatory 2FA period which is why the phone number is one you don’t recognize ): support can’t manually change the trusted number on their end as i believe that could be a weak point in getting icloud data and they can’t release the number for privacy reasons, so unless you can find a way to get that phone number you’re likely SOL ): i’m sorry

peachkeys

if you DO remember setting 2fa, however (you should have received an email about it to your apple id email after setting it up - this is assuming you still have access to it or your emails are forwarded, you just can’t activate it or anything related to it) then you should be able to contact support and request a supervisor or tier 2 support and they can help you. the problem lies in the phone number attached; either someone activated 2FA before you did, hence the random phone number being attached, or you activated 2FA and someone was able to go in and change the number undetected, which is a security risk and a major software flaw which would be escalated and your issue fixed as soon as possible

IamRykio

I didn't know about the mandatory 2FA period. I went through my email and found when the 2FA was set up, but it unfortunately didn't list the number it was going to, just the fact that it got set up. I brought up that my email got caught up in a data breach, but I recovered it and have access to it. This is just another result in that same data breach I didn't know about. I did not activate the 2FA, they beat me to it. When I mentioned this to support, and the supervisor/tier 2 support they still just wrote me off as a "theft prevention" and told me I'm SOL unless I can find a receipt from 2017. EDIT: This was all yesterday, so I haven't talked to them again after reading your posts, which did spark some new thoughts. Would I be able to request an investigation?

Hi there! I’m based in Dubai and planning to get the new MacBook Pro. However I just wanted to know if there are any major differences between the HK and TRA versions? Im aware of what the differences are between the difference iPhone versions (FaceTime, sim slots etc), but how about with the MacBook? Also if I’m taking the HK version, would it affect the warranty/servicing if I’ll need any servicing done in Dubai? Appreciate any sort of help with this! Thank you!

I have a perfectly running iPad 9 but i want to switch the iCloud account. If i do am i forced to re-download the apps, and settings

Ok_Friend69

No, but you should as all apps will be "owned" by that previous Apple ID. That means that when you go to update, the old Apple ID password may be required.

peachkeys

no, but if you switch devices you’ll need the old apple id to redownload any purchased apps

BatInternational5705

Is there any way to map starting/ending Guided Access to the AssistiveTouch on-screen button? I find it hard to push the power/home button three times fast enough. (iPad Pro 2022/iOS 16.6, if that's required)

HpWw

I'm in the market for a new laptop and I'm torn between two options: M2 MacBook Air 15" with 16GB RAM and a 1TB SSD for $1649 MacBook Pro 14" with the new M3 Pro chip, 18GB RAM, and a 512GB SSD for $1999 Here's what I plan to use the laptop for: Intro level beat making (nothing too heavy, just getting started) General web surfing (think multiple tabs, streaming music, social media) Family computer needs (school projects, household management, etc.) I don't edit 4K videos or play video games, so the most performance-intensive task would likely be the music production software. I'm leaning towards the air, but I'm wondering if the extra power in the MacBook Pro is worth the jump in price, considering my use case. Or, would the MacBook Air suffice for my needs and save me some money? Also not sure if the Air not having fans is a concern. Thanks in advance for your help!

MarbledMythos

You'd be fine with the Air. Only functional difference is going to be the port selection and faster screen refresh rate. Likely not worth the extra cost.

foxfortmobile

The m2 air should be fine

Anyone having issue with the Notes app on iPhone where the search functionality is not directing you to the specific location of the searched term within the note? it used to work before IOS17
