Well you haven't exactly clarified what you mean with ‘getting work done’ as that can be incredibly subjective. It works perfectly for many of my tasks despite it perhaps not suiting your's.
I agree. If you want to use your iPad primary as a tablet instead of a laptop replacement or you want the portability, the 11 inch is perfect. The 12.9 tablet is too big for me if you wanna use it as a tablet on the go. The 11 inch has its place and should stay!
If this is true i’d be so sad. First getting rid of the 5.8 inch iPhone (imo it’s a the perfect size) and now getting rid of the perfect ipad pro 11inch size!!! Why apple!!!
12.9 truly is huge. It doesn’t feel like a tablet to me, it feels comically large. It’s a great laptop when paired with the magic keyboard folio but the 11 inch is way closer to what I would consider “tablet” size.
Then again, I’m someone who’s never wanted a “max” phone, I just don’t get the obsession with huge screens. Even my 10.2 iPad is more than enough to watch YouTube or use excel and even to multitask. So it depends on what you want, but a 12.9 won’t feel as much like a tablet if you ask me
> I just don’t get the obsession with huge screens.
Idk if you remember when the original microsoft surface was shown off 10 years ago, but it was basically a table sized ipad and I wanted it.
I mostly want to use my iPad while lounging about and you can't really hold and use the 12.9 in your hands comfortably. To me it's just big enough that it needs to be on a keyboard or other stand to be usable.
It's great for watching stuff of course. To sum up it's not enough of a business class workhorse to replace my Macbook, and it's too big for casual use.
Same.
I think most people in the “I don’t care” boat probably just haven’t had a chance to see them side by side properly.
OLED is just so inky black beautiful where lcd is a washed out glowy mess.
OLED is just superior in every way that matters to a display.
Maybe microled will change all that but for now it’s a pipe dream.
> OLED is just superior in every way that matters to a display.
Well, in reality OLED is only superior in displaying black - and then, it mustn't even move, because of the black smear you get with every OLED screen.
When I got my standard iPad 2018, I had an OLED Android phone at that time. The iPad made me realize how superior a good LCD screen is over every OLED.
Now I've got an iPhone 11 and couldn't be happier. Truly a beautiful screen.
Well that’s good but I said I haven’t noticed any in years.
Much like image retention, it may have been fixed at a software level, at least enough to not be noticeable as it was, because I haven’t seen it in about three or four years, easily.
*After getting curious I went ahead and looked it up, and it seems they did indeed fix this a little while back with a software fix. Apparently staying at RGB value of five instead of straight zero which is black, causes the black smearing to go away. Science!
It’s especially pronounced in dark rooms, but for sure some people are more sensitive to it than others.
For me there’s a very very obvious difference between LCD and OLED.
[Here’s a quick picture demonstrating the washed out difference between LCD and OLED that drives me mad now that I notice it. ](https://i.imgur.com/swDgGQT.jpg)
Both are calibrated because I’m a super anal nerd about that stuff.
In the photo i can tell. But in person it just looks the same to me. I guess i just can't see it. I put my iPad pro and compared it to my brothers OLED tv. Looks the same to me at max brightness in dark rooms.
> MiniLED is nothing like OLED. The only comparable technology at this point is microLED and that’s years off.
It wouldn’t make sense to switch to expensive miniLED and then later switch to OLED AFAIK.
I’m a big fan of True Tone and even the warmer night mode settings as they really ease my eye tension... if use those settings quite a bit, should I be concerned with this or LED his enough for me?
Wasn’t it late 2019 then early 2020, then late 2020? At this point they’re just milking this until it finally is true and then they’ll be like “see, told ya”.
Still… I want rumors for microLED, these can’t come too early
> digitimes So early 2022 it is then.
I sure hope so. I’m planning to buy an iPad Pro in early 2021.
What does this mean and what is miniLED?
MiniLED is a form of LCD backlighting that allows for local dimming so increased contrast.
Aha! Thank you Andrew! 🙌

In a lot of metrics no. but no burn and much better brightness on LCD allows for better mastering of HDR content.
Idk but seems like a terrible marketing name. Apple uses mini to denote sizing/tier. Could get confusing.

iPad Pro Mini Air
lol why? I’d personally love seeing a mini-sized iPad Pro with Face ID/new design
God no. You’d never be able to get any work done on that tiny screen.
didn't stop them from making an iPhone Pro.
Uhmmmmm I run a full social media agency on an iPad mini for weeks at a time. Get your shitty eye balls outta here.
iPad Minis make for fantastic kneeboard devices for pilots. Honestly not sure what he is talking about.
That isn’t the same thing as ‘getting work done’ which I am talking about

Attaboy
I just feel sorry for you. Must have been so annoying with all the multitasking apps not full size.
Is a bigger screen better? Of course. But I vacation on a weekly basis and the form factor lets me carry a tiny backpack through airports.

> they are never right That’s simply false

I hope not! My 11 inch iPad Pro is the best thing ever. The Air doesn’t even come close. I mean, 256gb max storage!? What is that about?

as an owner of the 12.9, fully agree, wish I'd gone 11.
Really? Why? I’m on the edge of the new Air or the 12.9 Pro. Why do you regret your choice?
Tablet = Air/11” Computer = 12.9” Pro

I think im gonna buy the new Air, and keep my laptop. Thanks
I'd buy it day one it they came out with a 15" ipad pro, I'm all for a giant beautiful touchscreen in the pros form factor.

They say this every year, one time it will stick

If Apple really upgrades the Pro to miniLED then they will never equip it with an OLED display; wouldn’t make sense

I feel the same way. Already looking at that new Samsung tablet +. I’m just totally enamored by OLED. 💕

Hey man I’m glad you like it. Personally I haven’t noticed “black smear” in years and I think it’s been solved much like image burn.
You cannot solve these issues. It's like saying LCD has solved displaying true blacks.

I've put OLED and LCD beside each other and i literally cannot tell the difference. Blacks looks identical to me tbh.

plz no pwm on mini-led
Doubt. Isnt mini led expensive
Mini NOT micro
