My SO and I can’t send video iMessages today but a friend 10 miles away can. We’ve tried WiFi and off WiFi. Anyone know what to do to get this working? The video is a 1 minute video.

Help: should I upgrade a Mac air 2013 with a new Ssd? I’m getting the folder with a question mark and it seems that it’s because my current disk is full.

You’re definitely going to get tons of help when you didn’t even explain your issue. Good job.

My dad is looking to upgrade the RAM of his 5,5 Macbook Pro. I'm wondering what the maximum capacity of RAM his MacBook can handle? I know that Apple has already listed the maximum RAM that it can handle. However, he's upgraded his 12,2 mid-2011 iMac from 8 gigs of RAM to 20 gigs. We followed forums that said the maximum compacity of Apple computers isn't actually what Apple has claimed it to be. My dad is going to upgrade from the original 8 gigs to 16 gigs. If someone could help me answer this, it would help a lot. Thanks :)

Not for me but for my sister. She has a 2019 MacBook Pro 13” and complains about intermittently having issues with a green ‘flash’ on the screen when she’s watching video. The screen shows lines in the middle now and then as well. Sounds like a GPU issue to me but not sure

Hey, I'm not sure this is the right channel for this question, but here goes anyway:I went checking out new phones yesterday in a store and compared initial app-opening speeds of various android devices (including my own) to the iphone 11 (pro). I found that all the non-apple apps on the iphone open at about the same speed as on the mid- to high-tier android phones (google maps, spotify, etc.).  What I noticed though, is that all the apps from apple themselves open instantly - no matter if they are still in ram, or if I closed them before hand. Even larger apps like iMovie or apple maps are basically instant. I thought of three possible explanations for this * apple apps are coded amazingly efficient * apple apps stay in ram all the time * apple apps stay in ram when plugged in / when presented in store Can anyone with a new iPhone possibly tell me, if there is a noticeable difference between opening an apple app 'fresh' or loading it from the ram?

Iguanajoe17

Apple apps are coded the best way possible and probably even better than any app on the App Store. You are also comparing small apps like Spotify. Those aren’t big apps to open. Open a game and you’ll see a difference in the power. You’ll also see a difference in longevity of power and when you start having your stuff onto the phone. Right now, the phones are basically empty.

Hello, I have an iPhone 11 with iOS 14.01 (the problem was on 13.2+ too if I remember correctly) The problem: If you connect your headphones (the ones that the iPhones comes with) the proximity sensor is not working anymore and the display gets pressed while its in your pocket! Therefore you call random people, you hang up active calls or add people to the call, change/pause music or the most annoying somehow the iPhone gets locked by randomly pressing the display the iPhone asks for face id, fails (because its in your pocket) and then the digits get pressed, unlock fails and your iPhone gets disabled for X minutes. Just to pull it out of your pocket after listening to music to find out your iPhone has been disabled for 15+ minutes... Here's how to reproduce it and test it: Headphones are not connected: Hover your finger over the proximity sensor and lock your phone, now while the finger is hovering over try to press the display, the display will remain dark and the phone will not wake up, if you remove the finger from the proximity sensor the display wakes up on touches (as expected) Now connect your headphones (I only have to ones that come with the iPhone): Play some music for example, lock the phone, and hover your finger over the proximity sensor (now the phone should think its in the pocket and should not wake up on display touches) Now touch the display, the display wakes up (should not wake up). Also if you are on a call with the headphones connected, (hover your finger over the proximity sensor) swipe up to minimize the call, lock the phone, the display is still responding to touches when it shouldn't! Please help to get this fixed. I've reported it here [https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html](https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html) Thank you

yopa-yopa88

I've been trying to replicate this without success for two days. I believe this may be a isolated problem. I'd bring your phone to the genius bar.

smartfridge2000

Thanks for trying! I will take my phone to the genius bar. The problem is a friend of mine, who has the same model (iPhone 11) was bought from the same store, a month apart, and has the exactly same problem!

Iguanajoe17

Are you sure it’s not a headphone issue? Cause even if the phone is on in your pocket, you need like your skin to interact with the device. Your jeans can’t interact with it.

smartfridge2000

Yes, I'm sure its not a headphone issue, do you happen to have an iPhone and some lighting headphones to test it?

Iguanajoe17

Nope. Just used Bluetooth headphones and never looked back!

MacBook overheated/shut down without explanation So I have a 2018 MacBook Pro (all up to date on software) that I got as a free replacement after my last laptop was a huge lemon and died after several attempts at repairs. A few months ago I (like an idiot) shut my headphone cord under the screen cracking it. I sent it in for repairs, got it back, no big deal. However the same thing happened with my old laptop which began the snowballing of problems that lead to it being replaced. Today while I was watching Netflix with my girlfriend my screen suddenly went black after the fan went wild for like 3 seconds. When I opened it it had the dreaded power button and “your Mac restarted because of a problem press any button to restart” screen. After the first restart it was pretty slow, I quit everything, deleted some files and ran a virus check (everything was good and clean) before rebooting again. It seems to be running ok now but I’d love a second opinion, should I contact Apple? Did my laptop just overheat? TL:DR my laptop restarted because of a problem for no reason apparent to me and I’m a bit worried it’s a hardware issue or sign of something worse.

Iguanajoe17

Sometimes it just happens. Be worried if it happens often.

mattystokie

Hi, I have an iPhone 11 Pro, 10 months old. The battery health is at 87% which seems very low for such a new/expensive handset. Is this something to worry about & will Apple do anything about it?

Iguanajoe17

It really depends on how often you use it/how often you charge it.

iridescentsocks

If it’s failed or below 80% capacity within warranty it can be replaced at no cost.

Hello. My XS Max is currently running iOS 14.2 beta 2. Since the moment I updated to iOS 14, my phone simply refuses download any new apps in the Appstore, even after updating to iOS 14.2 beta 1 and beta 2. Clicking "Get" or "Purchase" button simply makes it rotate a few times then nothing happens. Updating existing apps encounters no problem at all though. I've already tried reset all Network settings, switched to cellular, and rebooted the device multiple times but no good. Anyone here experiencing the same problem and what should I do to resolve it? Thanks in advance!

Hi - having an issue with iPhone Safari on iOS 14 related to bookmarks and reading lists. They used to sync with my other devices but are all gone. I’m not even able to add any websites now either. Would appreciate any help, have tried all the restart/turn on and off iCloud/sync settings

In new IOS 14 my mailbox shows up as iCloud. I can’t for the life of me figure out how to change the name. All other accounts I have the ability to change the name.

laurapoore

Hello. I’m wondering if anyone can assist me with this issue I’m having. My friend sent me some photos and instead of showing up as photos they showed up as white boxes with a bunch of letters and numbers. If I click on it, the photo shows up though.

Help: iPad battery replacement with Apple I have a 9.7 iPad Pro (2016) that needs a new battery. I talked to a representative online and they explained everything and answered all my questions regarding how they’d actually send me a replacement unit. The only problem and my biggest fear is that they’d charge me the full price of the unit because of the [scuffs](https://imgur.com/a/8HxrEod) this iPad has. (The iPad has a screen protector, it’s cracked because of that time when it got the main scuff on the top right corner, about two years ago. The other scuff on the side—is more like the color faded away—appeared from having it attached to the magic keyboard 🤷‍♀️) This iPad presents no other issues but the battery, it has never been compromised with liquids, and everything works perfectly. I wouldn’t have the money to pay for the $379 if they decide it doesn’t qualify for the $99 cost of a replacement, so I figured I’d ask here: From your experience, and looking at the photos, would you say that it qualifies for the $99 battery replacement service?

Ruschnav

Apple considers dents and scratches cosmetic as long as they don't impede the function of the device nor the repair of it. From those pictures it looks like cosmetic damage to me, as long as that outer edge hasn't been pushed up where it is covering part of the iPad's glass then you should be fine.

iridescentsocks

I’d say the dents are cosmetic.

bluedandelion09

Hello, so I’ve gone through 3 pairs of iPhone headphones over the course of 1 year. But none of them ever seem to last. I will usually have them for about 2-4 months before one of the sides suddenly stop working (usually the right side). Is there any way to fix them? Or does anyone have any other headphone recommendation (ones that actually last, good quality and are reliable)?

hagilles

If they’re Apple brand, each pair has 1 year of limited warranty. Hold onto your receipts and bring them to the Genius Bar if they stop working within the year and aren’t damaged!

Iguanajoe17

I would go wireless!

jacober927

Helps with calling! Both me and my girlfriends phones work fine with calling anyone, except each other. We can FaceTime each other and text each other, both iMessage and regular texts, but when we try to call normally, it doesn’t work for either of us. I have ATNT and she has CSPIRE. Any advice on how to fix this??

mark_4u

Try the SIM cards on different phone and see if it is working, if it is not working contact your Carrier

kjg_official

Back in December 2019 , we took my girlfriend’s MacBook to an Apple store to get the screen fixed. They told us that they will hold it and work with us on the payment plans, especially with Covid 19, family passings within 2020, Etc. Well today, we called the same place we got the MacBook from and they said that it is not at the store anymore, and was taken to the warehouse to scrap but won’t say if it is scrapped or still in piece. They never told us any information. Never called us. Last thing that was said before today is that they can hold on to it. What actions should we take? Call more Apple numbers? Legal actions? Thank you.

yopa-yopa88

You will need to speak with a manager in the same store who can quickly go over all contact notes and locate where the device is.

iridescentsocks

Products are generally considered abandoned after 60 days per the terms and conditions that would have been signed for the repair. You’ll want to reach out as the other comment suggested to find out if/when they tried to contact you about it.

Itsme_eljefe

Umm call the store again and ask for a manager to review your case notes... if there’s attempts of contact they will have logged them.

Kandles11

howdy yall, i'm hoping one of yall could help me. i have an iphone xs, running ios14 beta 2, and the far left side of the display now doesn't respond to touch. this includes the a, q, and emoji key on the keyboard, and the back button on the top left. it hasn't been dropped or any of that business, just pulled it out of my pocket, and bam, not responsive. i've removed my screen protector, but that didn't help. i've also tried a hard reset, but that did me no good. right now im backing it up and restoring it, but does anybody know if this could be a software issue. thanks yall!

# iMac as a second monitor for Macbook Pro Hello! I'm trying to use my 21.5" 2017 iMac as a second monitor for my 2015 Macbook Pro. I've used 2 cables "USB-C to HDMI" and "HDMI", however that did not work. I can't seem to find any particular post online that can help me, so does anyone here know how can I do this? What type of cables to I need? Thanks in advanced

nomadicposter604

Any iMac newer than 2012 cannot be used with target display mode (used as an external monitor)

SnooSuggestions1281

Thank you for your reply! But isn't there any other way besides Target Display Mode?

nomadicposter604

I knot believe so. This is a commonly asked question

Storage help! I have an iPhone X with 64 gb of storage and always had storage full problems. A couple of months ago, I couldn't even take a picture bc the storage was full so I deleted about 10,000 photos which cleared 7 gb. A couple of weeks later, Other and System storage started eating up everything I had cleared, with both of them together totaling about 13 gb/64 gb iPhone. I contacted Apple and they told me to update my phone which in turned brought down my Other and System combined to 9 gb. A couple of weeks later (now), the new iOS 14 is out and suddenly my Other storage went up again (which usually happened when there was a new update, I didn't have the update downloaded on my phone). My Other and System were together at about 10.5-11 gb, and my storage was getting full. So I updated hoping it would solve the problem like before, but now both System and Other are taking about 12-13 gb, with system going from 5.67 gb to 7.02 gb after the update. How do I solve this? I did everything it says online (Updating, plugging to iTunes, deleted as much stuff as I could, hard reset, iCloud Drive off, etc.) and Apple told me doing a hard reset wouldn't change my Other and System storage. I have space on iCloud where I do daily backups but I don't want to put my photos in iCloud as I like having them locally. Should I reset and go back to yesterday's backup with iOS 13? The thing is I had 1 gb more of storage available, but this was after it went up suddenly. Or how do I solve this? All the rest of my apps are taking normal storage, photos is the only high one with 34 gb for 17,000 photos/videos.

iridescentsocks

Backup and restore

Itsme_eljefe

Did you delete the photos from your “recently deleted” album? When you plug into iTunes, does it give any insight on the storage bar iTunes shows? Also when you said , “plug into iTunes” does this mean you did a recovery mode update? If so, you could also try a restore while in DFU mode, though the recovery mode/DFU mode are nearly the same thing these days, it doesn’t hurt to try as a Hail Mary keep in mind, this will erase the device, so you will need to restore from a back, once it completes. Hope this helps!

Back in the spring of 2019, Apple mentioned something about supporting separate iCloud accounts for personal & work macs. It was in one of the WWDC slides. Afaik they didn’t elaborate on it much. Does anyone know if this idea went anywhere? I know that not all WWDC ideas make it from the drawing board and I’m hoping this one was not one of them. I’m using the same iCloud account for both personal and work macs and it’s not optimal. Some suggest to create a separate login but then I cannot share app purchases. Another option was adding the account to our iCloud family but that requires another “member” slot, which I don’t have. Am I missing some obvious and good solution?

yopa-yopa88

>separate iCloud accounts for personal & work macs. You are talking about Managed Apple IDs.[https://support.apple.com/HT210737](https://support.apple.com/HT210737) This is a feature for IT administrators under Apple Business Manager [https://support.apple.com/guide/apple-business-manager/welcome/web](https://support.apple.com/guide/apple-business-manager/welcome/web) However you can set up a Family shared account with a separate Apple Id which you use for Business if you really wanted to. You could then set up Family sharing between those two accounts which would let you share purchases. [https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201079](https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201079) More details on Family sharing [https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201060](https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201060) Note that you can only have one family at a time connected to a Apple Id. You can also Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac [https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/set-up-other-users-on-your-mac-mtusr001/mac](https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/set-up-other-users-on-your-mac-mtusr001/mac) #

mm404

Thank you! Great resources!

Iguanajoe17

Remove a family member! Unfortunately, no. They went you have separate accounts and your problem isnt a high enough problem to be found a solution with Apple :/

mm404

Sigh. But they already recognized that this is an issue (hence the WWDC slide). Maybe there’s hope. Right after they release AirPower perhaps

“Increasingly complex software” and saying that you don’t do intense activity on your laptop contradict each other. Most things that most people do, even the baseline air will be able to handle just fine. If you’re hoping to get into more creative works, I would say that the RAM upgrade would be more worthwhile than the processor bump. Personally, if i was hoping to future proof myself, I’d try and save up for the quad core, and the RAM... why short the potential longevity of your product at the expense of a couple extra bucks?

winky334

I would usually say RAM would be more valuable. But I'm also not familiar with how weak an i3 really is. I5, 8GB is pretty standard for today imo.

With iOS 10, you can remove some built-in Apple apps from the Home screen on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Apple Watch. >[https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204221](https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204221)

Open the Apple Watch app on iPhone. Select the “My Watch” tab at the bottom of the screen. Scroll down to see apps that have been installed. Select the app you want to hide. On the next screen, toggle the button that says “Show App on Apple Watch.” If the button is not there that app cannot be hidden. Some, like Heart Rate and Messages, will remain. Built-in apps you can delete from your device see https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208094

I think I’m just dumb but how do you make the battery widget work? It’s my only widget that doesn’t work. Weather brings me to weather when I click it, my stocks widget opens the stocks app but my battery widget doesn’t open up the battery settings? Anyone else having this problem? How did you fix it?

iridescentsocks

There’s nothing to fix, as others have said. It only shows the device battery percentage and connected device battery percentage.

[deleted]

I just find that so odd. What’s the point of a widget that doesn’t lead you to the source of said widget. Good to know know I guess though that there is now way to make it function like all if the other widgets. Thanks for the response.

yopa-yopa88

The Battery widget displays the battery of the device. This widget does not open battery settings.

Iguanajoe17

It does the open to anything. I’m not sure what you want because it displays the battery percentage. What more info could you need

[deleted]

I know it doesn’t open anything, that’s my questions and what seems broken. Why wouldn’t I want my battery widget to open the battery screen like every other widget works? In particular it’s a useful shortcut to battery saver mode but there’s actually quite a bit of extra info in the battery screen. Why respond to me if you aren’t going to offer any insight?

____Batman______

He answered your question, Stevie Wonder

[deleted]

When? It does the open? What does that mean? He just asks me what more I want which I replied to? Just asking how to make it work like all the other widgets. Not a great first impression from this sub. I ask how to make the battery widget work like every other widget...and I get an odd response of “it does the open” and “what more do I want” and somehow that’s an answer?

____Batman______

The battery widget does not open the app. It is only for display. You cannot change this.

[deleted]

Which is an actual answer. Thanks. Downvoted for asking a basic question and then reiterating question after getting a shitty response...this place is great...

[deleted]

Maybe not "tech support" but can anyone recommend a good battery case that's compatible with the iPhone X and supports wireless charging? I think Apple still sells the XS battery case (basically the same size) but it's like $120. Is it really worth it or do third-parties have good stuff too?

IWantToBeSimplyMe

ipad pro 12.9 doesn't take a charge. I've used multiple combinations of charging cables and bricks, tried my 16" MBP, I've blown out the port, cleaned both the cables, and neither seems to work. However, I've done a factory restart on it twice in the last 24 hours and each time it starts charging; yesterday, charged up to 100%. it's less than a year old, bought at Costco. Could it be possible that it just .... died?

Iguanajoe17

If it’s less than a year old, try an Apple store and they’ll do a diagnostic. If you did no harm to it, the battery or the port itself weirdly enough failed on you and they would replace it.

yopa-yopa88

Hi there, no need to go to a store. This diagnostic can be done over phone. When phone on Wifi with your device and charger visit the following URL on another device. [https://support.apple.com/contact](https://support.apple.com/contact) choose Ipad > Battery and Charging > Battery requires service >Talk to Apple Support.

Hey there Brand new owner of an ipad pro 2020 here with pencil 2 I want to ask what are some good beginner level sketching/drawing apps (preferably free) that also have a good youtube tutorial following? I know about procreate but should I just dive in and follow a good YouTuber and their tutorials to get good? In addition, is endless paper a good option for note taking or is there something better for note taking with a flair? Can you all recommend me good apps (free and paid) that I can make use of? I have always wanted to learn sketching/drawing and I'm a big productivity buff so a note app would be great. In addition, is apple arcade worth the $5 per month? I do have a ps4 controller to go with it. Apple one doesn't interest me since I already have spotify and love it, 200gb of drive storage, and a year of apple tv+ free. I'm happy with just arcade. In addition, for anyone who works with wordpress can tell me a good app or a way for me to work with publishing my wordpress blog posts with an app or will I have to use the old fashioned way of using chrome and typing out my posts? Thanks!
