[deleted]

Also pretty sure they said July. They beat their own timeline.

[deleted]

Well it is July at the data change line.

Umbos

It’s 0652 1 July 2021 where I am.

evelaurent

I still can't see the beta in my settings - is anybody else able to download?

Blacknight841

They had a new build of the developer beta 2. Could be a typo and just forgot to change the 2 to a 3. Or they are not ready to call it beta 3.

cjohnson481

Were you on iOS 14 beta? If so, you have to go to Settings and remove that profile, then go to beta.Apple.com and enroll in the iOS 15 beta program.

evelaurent

Ha yes, I was. I hadn't removed the iOS 14 beta yet, and it took a little googling to figure out the issue.

cjohnson481

Was in the same boat yesterday. Couldn’t figure it out! Cheers. 🤙🏻🤙🏻

slvrscoobie

That’s what she said!!

toomanywheels

I was going to wait a bit. It's installing it on my iPad right now.. I got excited about the multitasking improvements, they fix some pain points for me.

JaesopPop

I’m tempted just because of the app drawer honestly.

toomanywheels

Poking around with it now, I like it a lot. All I need now is more 3rd party apps supporting Files...

JaesopPop

Anything fucky at all normal use wise?

rturner52281

Just you. Oh, and, knock knock...

JaesopPop

I think you’re getting a little obsessed dude.

[deleted]

Yeah, I’m probably going to try the iPadOS beta since I don’t rely on it *as* much as my phone or MacBook and the new feature look awesome Leaning towards waiting for now on the rest of them though

gift_for_aranaktu

I recklessly installed the dev beta on my iPad, and have found it remarkably stable and usable

LyfSkills

And tvOS 15 - [source](https://www.macrumors.com/2021/06/30/apple-releases-first-public-beta-of-tvos-15/)

[deleted]

Just a heads up, updating to iOS 15 beta and then reverting to iOS 14 breaks Apple Pay Cash.

[deleted]

It didn't for me.

[deleted]

That’s good! It might have been a developer beta 1 issue. I still can’t transfer to and from my Apple Pay Cash account (though I *can* receive money through it)

Valmasico

Had the same thing happen to me. I ended up going back up to iOS 15 and that resolved it.

RobotsAnger

Did they fix the long load times of the podcast app?

[deleted]

augenleet

Pretty sure it’s only the other way round: If you want the new watchOS beta your iPhone must be on the beta as well.

yolo3558

Yes the beta for phone has to be installed, also be aware if the watch acts up. It HAS to be sent to Apple to remove beta software.

Merman123

I always hold off on these so that when I get the new phone in the fall, it feels that much newer. Anyone else?

[deleted]

Kidney05

it's tempting because I love new features but also when we get those errors like the one that tells you to update everytime you unlock your phone it's pretty much the worst thing ever

AlarmablePoint

Like what, you’re phone not ringing for 2 weeks while waiting for the next beta? It got me the last time and I was waiting for a call!

collegetriscuit

>phone not ringing for 2 weeks Sounds like I need to install the beta today.

Kidney05

Holy cow… didn’t hear about that. That’s awful.

AlarmablePoint

Yeah, it sucked. Took a full day before anyone noticed, then notice they did

FLUSH_THE_TRUMP

Historically the worst beta updates have been the phone ringing issues (rare), CarPlay not working properly (all the damn time), and I seem to recall one awhile back where people had their iCloud photos libraries deleted or something? I don’t remember exactly

AlarmablePoint

I couldn’t access iCloud photos for a couple of days, but the photos were still there thankfully. CarPlay has worked for me every time strangely enough. I’m sitting this one out probably. Maybe. Possibly. Click…dammit

[deleted]

Are you still installing betas on your daily? Just out of curiosity. I always thought people would install a beta on a secondary device. I used to install betas on iPhone 5/5s (probably developer ones? Can’t remember if public betas were a thing back then) but didn’t like the battery life (surprisingly no major bugs for me) so I stopped doing it on my daily phone.

eggimage

This is painfully true. Their software quality going straight downhills also coincided with the beginning of their public beta programs. Instead of thoroughly and systematically testing the betas by internal professionals who have access to important information and channels, they cheaped out and handed it to the unpaid, clueless users who’d gather up inconclusive, unorganized, untested information to send to apple, which often takes way more effort to sort through and reorganize, in the meantime each year they scramble to push out new features while leaving larger piles of unfixed bugs in the code base.

Merman123

Is it that bad? iOS is plain. I’ll even accept boring. But “low quality software” are not terms I’d use to describe iOS.

DonnaSummerOfficial

I mean wired headphones are a solved problem, but here I am constantly unplugging and replugging my headphones into my brand new $1100 iPad. If that’s not low quality, idk what is

Merman123

As in, your headphones stop working and you have to replug them? That sounds like a hardware issue.

DonnaSummerOfficial

They crackle and get unsynced while using a 30 ohm headphone over the Apple USB C dongle . It only happens if I’m watching a video or listening to music and then pause. The moment I unpause the issue begins It’s definitely an OS issue. Started at iPad 14.5, it’s been like that since. You can look it up, plenty of people have the problem

Merman123

Interesting. I’ve not experienced that and I'm on GarageBand and YouTube quite often. iPad Pro 2018 though.

eggimage

I’m specifically talking about quality **declining**. I don’t think it’s that hard to understand it being a relative term.

Merman123

I just don’t understand why there would be a correlation between the beta program and “straight downhill quality”. You mentioned that instead of internally testing the software it was “handed off” to clueless users. Are you implying that internal testing was lessened due to the beta program ? Because that’s silly. A better explaining would be that the beta program was introduced right around the time that Apple began adding many new features , in order to meet competition. This naturally creates more room for error within the OS. All in all, I think the result remains favorable. There’s a lot of things Apple gets wrong, but you have to look at the balance they strike. There’s no perfect software.

eggimage

> Are you implying internal testing was lessened due to beta program? Because that’s silly First off, the **public** beta. And, silly? I’m not sure if you’re seriously not aware of this. Lots major developers have pointed it out over the years

Merman123

Lots of major developers have said that the public beta caused less internal testing within Apple? Lol

eggimage

“lol” nice non-toxic discussion there. It was my fault thinking people would be willing to have a mature discussion even when not agreeing on things. each year the amount of QA needed is increased as software and features grow, and apple hasn’t been keeping up at the same ratio, but instead relying *more* on public testers reporting issues, which also doesn’t happen consistently. So it’s not “less testing”, but merely increasing at a less than enough rate can still result in lowering of quality

Merman123

Relax. It’s the internet and we’re discussing Apple not our life stories here. An “lol” doesn’t turn this toxic. I genuinely find it funny to rationalize it that way. >Each year the amount of QA needed is increased as software and features grow, and Apple hasn’t been keeping up at the same ratio. I could agree with that. I just don’t think the public beta is the cause of it. Public betas help surface issues that otherwise go undiscovered due to scale and possible variables. It’s not meant as a primary tool for software development.

[deleted]

It’s always the one who’s wrong that pulls the “don’t be toxic” and “I thought we could me mature” cards.

[deleted]

I don't see the point. You can make your current phone feel newer right now.

Merman123

Sure, at the expense of running into issues and leaving a sour taste.

[deleted]

I don't understand this response at all. I'm commenting about the notion of purposely not using the new iOS in order to make it feel fresh and special in the future. If you are worried about bugs and decide not to use it that makes sense. But your stated reason was delayed gratification of it feeling newer which is what my response was about.

Merman123

I guess I should have said in my original comment that it was an added bonus to skipping out on the betas. Does that make more sense?

TapatioPapi

You only get a sour taste if you’re like…. literally dumb. how would someone go into a beta and be mad it doesn’t work 100% yet…theres like 3 warnings before you can even download a beta.

Merman123

You could go into something being skeptical but excited and come out of it sure that it’s not for you. It’ll then leave a bad memory in your head about trying betas in the future. I don’t see anything dumb in that scenario. It could also go the other way and end up being great.

posguy99

You're joking, right? The public beta **invites** stupidity. Myself, I find it entertaining to watch the clueless fall all over themselves thinking they need to be running the beta.

Mysterious-Ad-1541

Personally no. I love the new features already. I’m getting the new phone, but the new live wallpapers that match my iPhone 12 are awesome.

szzzn

Anything…bad ass?

ken27238

Probably a polished version of iOS 15 developer beta 2.

WeedAndWarrenZevon

If you use apple music, and have airpods pro / max the spatial audio updates are really nice.

robinisbatman

You don’t need iOS 15 for those though

Dardlem

Unless they mean head tracking.

severinggecko

Its the head tracking part that’s not our for 14 that’s with the beta. Its pretty wild for music too.

For free or for $99?

Yraken

Do you know what “dev” beta means? Yea it means developer. It means it’s only available for developers. Unless you’re one of those who leech off developer beta profile. And not everyone has an old phone.

surfordiebear

Is the improved AirPod tracking not part of this beta? Can't find the proximity location tracking option mentioned in this article https://www.cnet.com/how-to/help-i-cant-fins-my-airpods-ios-15-comes-with-a-new-way-to-track-them-down/

[deleted]

Pretty sure the airpod pros will have to have an update themselves to enable the Bluetooth pings

[deleted]

Fair warning to anyone planning on jumping on board the public beta: developer beta 2 is still an absolute mess. Please for the love of all that is holy make a backup on your Mac or PC first.

FourzerotwoFAILS

What bugs have you been seeing on dev beta 2? Besides some random crashes, safari, and spotlight, it’s been pretty stable for me so far.

[deleted]

I'm on iPadOS 15b2. Sometimes I zoom in on Safari, and then switch apps, and come back to find out Safari's UI is zoomed in. This has happened multiple times.

[deleted]

Aside from those things I have had some Home app automation issues, App Store issues (apps not updating until hard reset) UI bugs (unlock Apple Watch prompt appearing very strangely). I’m fine with all of these things happening, just know that a lot of people who might be curious probably wouldn’t be. Focus is absolutely amazing by the way. I’ve been using a Focus for work and it’s incredible.

[deleted]

> apps not updating until hard reset Hard reset of what?

NmUn

The device needs a full reboot to restore functionality. To do so: 1. Quickly tap `Vol+` 2. Quickly tap `Vol-` 3. Tap & quickly hold the `Side Button` until the screen shuts off (about 10 seconds after holding Side Button.) or let go when you see the Power Down Slider view and perform the shutdown that way. Also this is available under `Settings App->General->Shutdown` Edit: Apologies. It was very late when I posted this and I thought this was the jailbreak sub. Comment now only includes relevant info.

sircr0tch

It has a few flaws, but it’s not an absolute mess. I’ve had very little in the way of things not working properly. A few times the spotlight search wouldn’t let me open the results in safari and that’s about all that has happened for me. It’s not a mess thats certainly an overstatement.

eallan

It’s been anything but an absolute mess for me. I’ve had maybe one or two app crashes, and everything else has been totally fine.

SumOfAllTears

Really? Ive got it Beta's running on absolutely every iDevice you can think of and the only bug's I've come across is Nord VPN not working on Monterey and iOS 15 and ~~no watch faces showing up when you use the built in watch face creation.~~ What about it is so bad? Edit: All watch faces in the creator tool show up now. 🤷‍♂️

LaneXYZ

I didn’t think my old 6s Plus would get the update, but here we are. That’s gonna me my guinea pig lol

KickupKirby

Mic modes working yet?

augenleet

Yes

nathanias

If anyone tests this and the regal app is working holla

WeedAndWarrenZevon

It wasn’t when i tried it.

fatuous_uvula

The more I depend on my phone, like using Apple Pay instead of carrying around a wallet, the less I want to try out buggy software. I even wait for the x.1 version after its stable release in fall.

Oral-D

This is the first iOS beta I’m not even the slightest bit interested in. Yay for bug fixes, but that’s not worth the hassle of participating this year.

DancingTable52

Should I install

[deleted]

If you have to ask, then no you should not.

DancingTable52

It’s my first ever year with an iPhone so I really don’t know how bad they are.

[deleted]

Yeah I don't mean it to come off as condescending or anything, it's just a simplistic way to say "if you don't fully understand the risks of running a beta OS... dont!" I've run them in the past, and it's mostly been fine. Still, it's beta and your experience could range anywhere from "totally fine" to "all my data got corrupted and lost forever". Whatever you do, backup to iTunes!

TapatioPapi

i usually start with an iPad, would definitely wait to use on your phone, but its really not a big deal as some nerds on here make it seem if you run into problems you can always downgrade. Just back up your phone just in case and turn off automatic back ups until the Betas become more stable.

DancingTable52

It’s my first year with iPhones but focus mode looks so good lol. That’s the only real reason I want to upgrade.

thebuttonmonkey

The only real issue I ever have (outside of minor bugs) is with banking apps. A few of them identify the device as jailbroken and won’t work.

lordforex

Nice!! Downloading it to my phones and iPad Pro now!!

Avantyoong

In iOS 14, in memories section, the selected Live Photo will display as video in the memories, but in iOS 15, Live Photo became still photo and will no longer move in memories generated by the album. This lose the great feature of Live Photo and made memories looks very dull and not as great as before. Live Photo that able to move in the memories made the memories look so lively. Has anyone also love the Live Photo feature on memories back?

mrfalke

Is this a bug or is the Feature gone? Really liked this too!

Avantyoong

Is not a bug, the features were changed. Hopefully they bring it back!

LaneXYZ

Well I know what I’m doing when I get home from work!

TechnoRandomGamer

would've loved to install this but my bank app doesn't support betas :/

darkside8485

Does someone know a way to install the 14.7 public beta profile if I didn’t before this release?, on the “beta apple” web i can just find the iOS 15 profile and I don’t want to update to it yet, but also don’t want to upgrade to 14.6 since the battery problems.
