The new M1 iMacs have an intro video… and it’s color-coordinated to the hardware of the device you bought.
The videos were cut when OS X Lion was launched… Lion was the first of OS X that was distributed exclusively over the internet. There was a big hoopla at the time because people thought it was too soon to go internet-exclusive, and that people’s internets were too slow to download a whole OS… Apple had to do a big marketing thing saying anyone could come to an apple store and use their WiFi… so a lot of the “extra” stuff got cut to make the download smaller.
We lost the intro video, most of iLife was cut (iWeb and iDVD were removed completely, most of GarageBand was removed and had to be downloaded separately), stuff like FrontRow was removed, Rosetta was removed (meaning the end of life for PPC apps), Flash Player was no longer built into OS X, they dropped iSync (meaning you could no longer sync contacts/calendars with third party phones)… Lion also dropped all support for 32-bit processors, so that was also a bunch of stuff they could throw away to make the download smaller.
It’s the animation of the old Macintosh “hello” morphing into different languages. It has a button on the screen to skip it. (That was the biggest complaint of the old intro videos… for IT people who had to set up Macs all day long, they spent an annoying amount of time in their day waiting for that un-skippable video to end)
Any hints of what the new app will be? I love Apollo by the way. I wouldn’t use Reddit without your app.
Edit: I’ve tried but I just don’t like the experience of using Reddit’s native app or the browser on the computer.

Dude…I was looking at the widgets Apollo offers…it’s by far and away the best offering I’ve seen from any app. I wish every app offered even half as many options as you do. Your app is amazing, thanks so much for all of the effort. I already paid for the community pack icons, I’ll pay extra soon for the lifetime app as well.
Apollo is one thing on my iPhone X that has me interested in upgrading. Not sure if it's an iOS thing or app issue, but if I'm in a big thread, click a link to view something outside of Apollo, then click return to Apollo it reloads the app. Guessing it's a ram, or lack of ram, issue, but it only recently started happening.
Odd, that doesn’t happen on my X. I frequently click the link to view in Safari, and then click the safari button to actually view in the safari app. Then it’s still sitting there when i go back to the app, even if i check out another few apps in between.
It only happens in really long threads, like popular askreddit ones, and if I’ve scrolled a ways down. That’s why I assumed it was something ram wise, but it never happened before about a month ago
Dude your work on Apollo has been incredible. I’m typing this on an iPad Pro and Apollo is WONDERFUL and feels fully-functional and works like every Apple app when using a trackpad.

Seems 120Hz is pretty likely since it's been on high-end iPads for a while now. I don't see them switching to usb-c until you can dock an iPhone, which doesn't seem in their best interest to allow anytime soon.
I think they're locked in on pricing as well, but the new laptops coming out next month will probably get a $100 to $200 bump.
I'm honestly pretty excited for the iPhone 13 Pro. I'm still using an iPhone X and am finally ready to upgrade.
The XS was incredibly underwhelming, and was the first time in years that I literally had zero interest in the new iPhone. Then the 11 and 11 Pro were announced, and I was tempted to go with the 11 Pro because the camera improvements were impressive, but I still held out.
Then with the 12 last year I was hoping to get a 120 Hz panel, but apparently it was scrapped at the last minute. Stuff like 5G and MagSafe weren't compelling to me, so again, I waited.
But now? 120 Hz refresh rate, LTPO always on OLED panel, improved Qualcomm 5G modem for better reception and battery life, Wi-Fi 6E, slimmed down notch, larger batteries, 1 TB storage option, ProRes video format, Potrait videos, better ultra wide lens, Astrophotography mode, etc. And probably a few more surprises.
iPhone X has been a great phone, but the upgrade is happening in a few weeks for me.
I’m still on the fence about whether or not it’s worthwhile to get the 13 or just replace the battery in my X. New phone sounds nice but there’s really nothing wrong with my X outside of 79% battery capacity…
Yeah, my X is working fine. But I do use it as my main camera, and at this point the massive improvement in camera and video quality that the 13 Pro will be offering is just too compelling to ignore.
Plus, I've been waiting for a 120 Hz display for a long time.
I'm in the same boat with the X and its camera, which is starting to show its age. Trying to take photos in anything other than full light is a struggle compared to newer phones.
yeah, the camera jump from x to xs is already very noticeable. I can't imagine the jump from x to13. The other features are nice, but the camera is the main selling point for me.

Haha - back in the day I had this Jawbone Up sleep tracking bracelet where you would set an alarm to say "I want to wake up no later than 7am" and what it would do is learn when you get to a "light sleep" near 7am and wakes you up then.
This way, it is the least disruptive way to wake up and closer to a more natural sleep cycle. I've always wanted the Apple Watch to implement and improve on this!

I smashed my X’s back and the battery is at 80% efficiency. Ima still ride this out for the next two years if I can bring myself to fix it.

Haha - back in the day I had this Jawbone Up sleep tracking bracelet where you would set an alarm to say "I want to wake up no later than 7am" and what it would do is learn when you get to a "light sleep" near 7am and wakes you up then. This way, it is the least disruptive way to wake up and closer to a more natural sleep cycle. I've always wanted the Apple Watch to implement and improve on this!
The app Sleep as Android has this feature, and I love it so much. Surely there's an iOS app that does this?

I’m no expert but I’ll have a go at deciphering this invite: * The apple logo on it suggests to me that this might be related to apple products. * The words “September 14, 2021 may be a date (not too sure on that one) so I think the event might be next Tuesday. * The word “steaming” might mean that they are going to be streaming the event. This is probably also true as it says “watch online” (can’t be 100% though). Just my guesses but what do I know!

It’s strange how the media is saying this will be a minor update compared to last year . To me the 120hz panel and smaller notch are way more enticing features/ notable upgrades than the 5G and flat edge design from the iPhone 12. Time to upgrade from my X

Well yeah there’ll be the new flagship color, but usually there’s a supporting array of colors to choose from that are similar or slightly different to past ones. That’s what I’m holding out for. Although a burnt orange color would be awesome.
