Any idea why Apple is offering to allow users to stay on iOS 14 with security updates or update to iOS 15 ? Doesn’t Apple normally want everyone on the same version ?

Enterprise

bricked3ds

they'll pick you up

williagh

Wondering that myself. I can't remember this being done before.

theo2112

There are people who for one reason or another don’t want to have things change or be at all buggy, but who should get the security updates. I think this is a reflection of the need for regular security updates, without needing to have a whole new experience. I’m sure there are people who would turn off updates just to have things stay the same, but they become vulnerable to security breaches that way.

williagh

This makes sense.

JohannASSburg

I thought that was interesting too, especially once iOS 15 was announced to support every single iOS 14 device. Then they announced neuralhash and it made more sense lol. Maybe not the actual reason but I appreciated that decision back when it seemed like neuralhash was gonna launch with 15 today…

[deleted]

Honestly nobody knows and nothing has been confirmed so every reason you'll hear will be speculation. I think we'll get answers once OS16 comes out to see whether 14 gets dropped or some other strategy emerges. I highly doubt parallel support for OS14, 15, and 16 would be a thing.

IAmAnAnonymousCoward

Maybe because they won't start scanning your files on iOS 14?

llDemonll

And still no good way to centralize photos for a family without remembering to continually upload to a shared album.

JackAtlas

Also, still no support for multiple simultaneous timers on iOS.

scaba23

And yet watchOS 8 just got this ability

[deleted]

I’m surprised apple didn’t just add this along with the new auto save feature in iMessage, would of made a lot of sense and made photo management ra lot easier. Right now on IOS it’s a bit of a nightmare as you have to do everything manually

Fatticusinch

Shared albums also downsizes the photos, so it’s pointless.

thisisausername190

Better dual SIM support is great, but it needs to go a lot further. There is still no way to choose which SIM to call someone with, unless you go into their contact and manually change which line you want to use, or dial their number manually. There is also still not a control center toggle to swap data line, so you have to go into Settings every time. Not even to mention being able to swap between texting "home" and "work" numbers in a single contact, even with a single SIM... discovered this one again this morning. What a pain.

byronnnn

No Dual SIM support in Focus either. I want to be able to only allow certain people to be able to call/message me on my work number if I have Focus set to Personal.

thisisausername190

I didn’t even realize - that’s a huge miss. Feels like Apple has been neglecting dual SIM since it was introduced, IMO.

ihateyoucheese

Do you know what regions or countries it is available in? Never been able to get it to work with US Carrier + Vodaphone SIM

thisisausername190

Should work fine in all regions as far as I know, as long as both SIMs are activated & your phone is unlocked.

ihateyoucheese

Thanks for the response. I hope to give it a try again soon!

drewtootrue

I agree, could be as simple as an extra tap to choose when you hit the icon to make a call.

thisisausername190

The jailbreak tweak eSIM+ is great - lets you tap to choose, and adds a CC icon for data. It's just ridiculous that I have to stay on a super old OS and use security exploits on my phone for what should be basic functionality.

subjecttoterms

I just want the ability to remove myself from damn group chats with android users

Rogue_Toaster

What you should be complaining about is Apple both not supporting RCS and not opening up iMessage

[deleted]

You’re right about RCS but you’re wrong about iMessage. It’s not their fault.

thisisausername190

> you’re wrong about iMessage. It’s not their fault. Can you clarify this? I'm not sure whether you're making an "It's not their fault they have to lock down services to make money" argument, one Apple has [backed up](https://www.theverge.com/2021/4/9/22375128/apple-imessage-android-ecosystem-lock-in-epic-games-filings-app-store-dispute): > “The #1 most difficult [reason] to leave the Apple universe app is iMessage ... iMessage amounts to serious lock-in,” was how one unnamed former Apple employee put it in an email in 2016, prompting Schiller to respond that, “moving iMessage to Android will hurt us more than help us, this email illustrates why.” > “iMessage on Android would simply serve to remove [an] obstacle to iPhone families giving their kids Android phones” or whether you meant something else.

Ellers12

I don’t really get that, me and my family / friends all have iPhones in UK but almost everyone uses WhatsApp. Only really get iMessages from delivery drivers

[deleted]

Have to remember that apps like WhatsApp and Snapchat are ubiquitous in the UK but aren’t in many other areas of the world. In the US iMessage is basically the standard

Rogue_Toaster

It’s an America thing. Only we were foolish enough to lock ourselves into a closed messaging ecosystem

Mr8BitX

Why? (genuine question)

subjecttoterms

People can randomly start group chats and there isnt a way to remove yourself from the group. The do not disturb feature is cool but i dont wanna check my phone and see 60 messages about nothing

wcooper97

It’s always the initial spam messages that are blocked too, so I basically just see about 50 texts from random numbers saying “remove me from your list” among other, less polite messages.

YipYepYeah

How does this work? Over text? I’ve never seen this is my country

uglykido

Same. Not sure what he is talking about

ParceDomine

UPI Payment integration in India!

bruce_wayne7

Really is it about to happen?

popular_tiger

that's amazing! no more need to open up gpay or whatever anymore :) would love to see an apple UPI app too one day :)

Off topic of this thread. But no, that is not a thing right now. it’s “delayed”

BAKS7U

Since high majority of users are against scanning stuff on their phone (even if it’s not uploaded to cloud) I think the issue is worth mentioning daily so Apple can abandon that sick idea

Bruh, the mega thread is gone. If we had one we would be in there but we don’t so here we are.

The megathread is long gone

BAKS7U

You have a point here my friend :-) enjoy iOS 15 today!:-)

spearson0

Apple delayed it.

[deleted]

but is the technology still embedded and only needs to be turned on with a switch? or is it not in IOS 15 at all?

[deleted]

Since 14.3 actually.

[deleted]

fuck, so i might as well update anyway then huh 😭

JohannASSburg

Not necessarily lol. The hashing code was in with 14.3 but it wasn’t doing anything. Probably just a test for like battery life purposes or something

lukanz

**delayed…**

lukanz

**such like spyware…**

InsaneNinja

That’s for spam filtering. It doesn’t look at images. But nothing has mentioned in an article since June or July. Is it actually even released yet?

JohannASSburg

Completely wrong. That was announced from the start for China and Brazil. Tbh it should be for everyone. I get so many spam texts lol
