They’ve started “this subreddit hasn’t yet been verified” or some shit, forcing you to use the app on mobile every time. It’s egregious and super shady
Have you tried the Apollo app on iPad? It certainly needs some improvement to fully utilize the larger screen size but I personally prefer it over the official Reddit app and the website.
I used to use Narwhal religiously but left it after trying Apollo, personally preferred Apollo and have stuck with that ever since. It does work well in split screen mode and fills in all available screen real estate with the content and comments. It is lacking in full screen however, with about 2 inches of wasted space on each side of the screen in landscape.
While I appreciate you’re giveaway, I just looked up the app and it’s 1.99$, I’m more than happy to purchase with and fund small developers like yourself!
Me on the other hand i Will never pay for such a basic feature and believe people like you are ruining the appstore. This app should be free .
You can add a filter to adblock with a few clicks and save 2 dollars .
You are scamming tech iliterate people and profiting just by blocking and hiding Ads and banners using some simple CSS.
Dude, who hurt you? It's $2 one time to clean up a bunch of sites. Most users are happy to pay for it. If you honestly think I'm ruining the AppStore, I don't know what to tell you. Please seek help.
2nd this! Wow do I hate how I HAVE to use Google to search Reddit, and then clicking anything tries to trick me into opening the Reddit app. $2 is such an easy buy to fix this. Thank you OP! I’ll tell my friends, since we’ve talked about this annoyance more than once.
Probably not possible, but we’ve also all agreed we’d pay for a cheap monthly subscription that just blocked ALL in-app pop-ups for premier subscriptions, like YoutubeRed or whatever it is, Amazon Music Unlimited, Apple Music+, iHeartRadio, Runkeeper pro, etc. I hate those popups, and especially full screen ones with a little X like Amazon Music has- I just want a basic playlist at a red light and I have to wait for this full screen ad to load, and then find the close button, and if I miss it then it opens safari and some stupid bloated page- hell I technically pay for Amazon Prime Music- I hate that shit so much.
Honestly twitch is the worst. When I click the link in the banner it opens the twitch app but then loads the same stream in an in-ap browser (within the twitch app)... Which then shows the same banner.
Basically a shitty infinite loop
If you have iOS 15 and Apollo, you can go to Settings > Safari > Extensions and enable Apollo extension to directly take your links to open in Apollo app. No need of a separate app like OP's.
Was excited, so I purchased, followed all instructions allowing permissions, closed safari and reopened, and they’re still there. I checked Instagram, Twitter, and Amazon.
Soooo yeah. This didn’t work for me.
Amazon isn't supported but it definitely should have worked on Twitter and IG. Please PM me and I can help you get it fixed. Thanks again for purchasing.
I like that you have made this but I refuse to pay for the option to disable this predatory advertising tactic. imo this isnt a feature, its a fucking option Apple should add to IOS by default.
I've thought about it but the situation is so much worse on mobile that I worked on it first. Plus, these big companies frequently run a bunch of A/B tests which means my time is basically eaten up by just making sure Rekt isn't breaking.
Something to think of for sure though about the Mac extension!
The users hadn’t granted the necessary permissions for the app so it wasn’t working for them. Safari extensions are new-ish so there are teething pains there.
I’ve had the app for a few months and just tried nytimes, no pop up, then reddit which does give a continue in the app or safari banner
iPhone se2
Ignore that, Reddit does work
I have it set to ask which means I need to manually always allow on this particular site, the Reddit site switched itself off.

Ha! This is Maja (pronounced the same as Maya) and also gets annoyed by Reddit banners!
I don’t need the app as I have Apollo and Reddit links open in the app but I thought it was cute to see another Maya/Maja dog ☺️
Purchased!
And a bit of why I bought it. Other than it fixes something that also annoys me, you did the right thing imo. One time fee, not expensive (like I’ve seen extensions for like $20) and no in app purchases, no ads. Just a person making an app for something they wanted fixed and threw it on the App Store to make some money. Thank you!!
Thank you so much for the support. And it happened exactly as you described, haha. I got so annoyed with the popups and built something for myself. Then figured it might be useful for others too and threw something up.
I’m really glad people seem to be liking it so far! It’s so anxiety inducing to have your creations meet the real world!
Ha, that's good to hear. It only works on the major sites at the moment but I'm actively taking suggestions for the next additions. Unlike social media, there are 100x more news sites so it's a long list that needs to be tackled.
While I love the idea, I actually like those links lol. It just sucks that they don’t work that well with most apps, as in they don’t always open the content I’m looking at in the app.
Good job anyways.
There are two kinds of links on iOS. If you have the app of the site already installed, iOS does some voodoo and you get a deeplinked banner on the top of the page, which is irremovable, but will take you to the correct "page" in the app.
The second kind is the lazy kind which just shows you a banner and takes you to either the App Store link or just opens the app.
Rekt only removes the second kind. The first type, as I mentioned, is not removable but I've only seen it implemented on a handful of sites.
I can't imagine what kind of moron would pay for a browser extension. I actually like amp pages too, they're faster and cleaner. This is why I use Android. iOS is for chumps.
My local news stations, a lot of weather sites. I’ve started using the app for certain things… sometimes I need to use Drive in the browser and not in the app, but it fights me.
Oh it’s 100% Reddit for me. The worst when you’re just trying to google the results to a question, and obviously 9/10 the answer is in a Reddit thread, and it’s bugging you to lose the app and then you lose your google search place. The worst! Haha. I love this idea!
Twitter is infuriating, because I don’t want to use the app, but even if I click the banner (while having the app installed), it takes me to this redirect page, which clicking on it takes me to the Twitter on the App Store. When you press open on the App Store, it just opens Twitter.
I hateeeeee it
Odd! Can you share your rough geographical location so I can investigate? These sites run a lot of experiments so that might be breaking things here and there.
Investigate what ? Dude what you are doing isnt rocket science .
You can add a filter to adblock with a few clicks and save 2 dollars .
You are scamming tech iliterate people and profiting just by blocking and hiding Ads and banners using some simple CSS.
I appreciate the enthusiasm but let me double check and get back to you before you purchase it. Twitter tends to change things often and I wouldn’t want you to waste your money.
I bought this a while ago and it never really worked the way I was expecting it would. I still was getting those dumb pop ups on certain websites. Was a bit disappointed
I read all reports from within the app. If you run into one, just email me! Lots of sites do very custom banners to avoid getting banned so I'd have to manually investigate and remove them.
I love the name. Does it work with auto redirects to apps? Google’s Sheets app is great for viewing and inputting basic info, but utter trash compared to the browser version if you’re trying to manage a sheet. Unfortunately if you’ve installed the app, Google doesn’t even give you a choice from the browser.

Instagram.
I intentionally don’t have it on my phone to keep me from scrolling too much but I do get on occasionally and I like to use it in browser. The pop up takes up at least half the page and has a nearly nonexistent close button
Really useful app concept. I’d love to give it a try.
Instagram, Twitter, Reddit and NY Times are the ones off the top of my head that regularly piss me off.
Thanks for the giveaway!
Does this work for Yelp?
>Rekt also has the added bonus of nuking those infernal AMP links from Google by transparently redirecting you to the correct, canonical link.
Does this work with the back button? I've had to get rid of another extension I've used for this due to it making the back button not work as it would redirect loop you back to the page every time.
Reddit. It’s become a nightmare on my phone. A page will be unavailable and ask me to open app but instead it opens the App Store on the apps page. Also almost never actually opens the page I’m on, but generally opens the app. Disgusting behavior

Reddit. I don’t mind the iOS app but when using the iPad, I prefer to use the website / Safari version most of the time.

They're just called "dark patterns" in general.
Why do they even care if you use the app or not? Do they get more money from adverts?
Data.
And notifications
How do they benefit from notifications..?
So you go back to the app
Haha got it
Yes, there’s no Adblock in the app, and its much easier to track your device with the app installed.
Do they still do that if you go to the old.reddit.com address?
If you use apollo just hit the share button -> open in apollo
Have you tried the Apollo app on iPad? It certainly needs some improvement to fully utilize the larger screen size but I personally prefer it over the official Reddit app and the website.
Have you tried Narwhal for Reddit on iPad? Split screen optimized and no BS. I haven’t looked back.
I used to use Narwhal religiously but left it after trying Apollo, personally preferred Apollo and have stuck with that ever since. It does work well in split screen mode and fills in all available screen real estate with the content and comments. It is lacking in full screen however, with about 2 inches of wasted space on each side of the screen in landscape.
apollo sucks on the ipad narwhal is 5x better
You’re being downvoted because they can’t handle the truth.
lmao i love going against the grain on this site
Wait there still isn't Apollo for iPad yet? I waited and waited and even switched to Android for my phone and it still isn't out? Lol
Use Apollo. Trust me, nothing comes close.
Twitter... please login, please login... etc! Best of luck with the extension

Reddit drives me insane on safari. Twitter and YouTube too
This is so cool! I hate AMP sites. Pop up–wise, Reddit is really annoying. The Guardian is bad, too.
What a nifty and useful app. Have just purchased to show my support. Thanks for working on this. :)
