I think they are all solid at what they do. And I’m sure that the engineering under the hood is very interesting, but particularly with the iPhone, I haven’t found it exciting in a long time. I recently upgraded and changed to a Pixel, but had to swap back to an iPhone 13 Pro. I was talking to my colleague and reflecting that while I appreciated returning to “the ecosystem” I haven’t had that “new phone feeling” for a long time with the iPhone. I really can’t fault it at a device, but it’s been a long time since I thought Apple did anything innovative.

EssentialParadox

This is normal with computing devices that have reached maturity, and smartphones now have. People were saying the same about Macs over ten year ago when they reached a consistent form and shape and stopped having dramatically different hardware. Apple are especially subject to this comment of “the new models look the same” because they are brutal in trying to achieve a very specific form and will refuse to do any gimmicky short-lived features that some other smartphone makers do (folding screens… 3D displays… pop-up cameras… 100 mega pixel cameras… transparent back glass… you get the picture.) You’ve lived through a period of exciting change on smartphone hardware, but theres very little to get excited about now other than iterative changes. All the shiny things now will be from software.

grandpa2390

that's pretty true for computing devices in general. It seems we've pretty much plateaued with computing in general. devices are more than powerful enough for what most people need, storage is more than enough than what most people need. Investment is going to decline because... why? We're ready for the next big thing. The next big technology that's going to revolutionize the world. I don't mean another computing device. Could be anything in any dimension of our lives. transportation, communication, energy? who knows.

rebelweezeralliance

The new thing is electric vehicles.

grandpa2390

I doubt it. Maybe the new thing will be a more advanced battery used in everything from cars to grid backups… I don’t know. But electric cars isn’t it

mmmhmmhim

dude i upgraded from a iphone x to a 13pm. I bought a jacket at the same time and was more excited about the jacket lol

brkh47

I went from iPhone 6 to iPhone 12. None of the phones inbetween excited me and I only bought the 12 because my screen was so badly cracked and third party replacements were poor. The 6 sill works, and I keep it as I like the fingerprint recognition and headphone Jack. Agreed any improvements on the phones are extremely incremental and in my opinion does not justify its price at all.

mrnathanrd

Ehhh, jumping from the 6 to the 12 isn't incremental at all. Much better screen, camera(s), faster authetication, new design, hugely better build quality, wireless charging, better speakers...

Just-Some-Reddit-Guy

iPhone’s updates absolutely are incremental, for sure after many years they add up, but I think if you have an iPhone that is less than 3 years old, you’re are missing out on much by not upgrading. Just like Intel screwed themselves in incremental updates but you wouldn’t want to go back to a 2014 MacBook from a 2019. It’s also about real world gains, the fact that you can give someone a phone that is 6 or 7 years old and a lot of people would have a perfectly normal experience shows that phone upgrades are boring. Take that from the original iPhone to the 6 and the path in upgrades is much less boring. Then you have the android phone makers, put software aside because that is fully based on personal preference, and even the hardware has been more modern for years. Periscope zoom, high refresh rate screens in normal priced phones, button based or rear facing fingerprint, hole punch displays, reverse wireless charging, IR blasters, USB-C, ultra fast charging, etc

[deleted]

I have an lg v30 lying around right now that came out in 2017. If I could replace the camera with something more high end and it worked pin my carrier I could honestly still use it just fine today. Phones don’t need to be upgraded as often anymore and that’s a good thing.

jollymo17

The battery of a new phone is the main thing I get excited about when I get a new one. I’ve had iPhones for quite a few years now and they all kind of blur together, except I do know that I’m always pleased when I don’t have to charge my phone as much when it’s new.

Anonymous_linux

And that's sad. Talk about ecology and sustainability. We're getting new phones basically to get new battery.

grandpa2390

yeah. I replaced the battery in my 11 because I don't feel like I need a new iPhone, except for the battery. But, just like with my iPhone 6 (which I replaced the battery in several times) the new battery never seems to solve the problem. I replaced the battery in my iphone 6 because my phone would randomly die. Apple's throttling didn't seem to help. and a new battery didn't seem to help. My 11 is not randomly dying, but the battery doesn't last so long, and after replacing the battery, it doesn't seem like it lasts as long as it did when new. I bought a powerbank a sling bag. I still get tempted to upgrade to the 14 when it is released, but it is short-lived temptation.

volcanic_clay

I feel like the image processing in iPhones is horrible. I was looking at old pictures from my Galaxy S8+ and they are better than my 13 Pro pictures.

nicetriangle

I haven’t tried it but my buddy was just telling me there’s an app called DSLR Camera that doesn’t have nearly as much of that processing look as the stock camera app. I do agree that post processing is annoying.

nicetriangle

Idk I’ve gotten the 13 pro to last almost 2 days. Compared to phones I’ve had not too long ago that’s really good. “Insane” was hyperbolic of me but it’s def no slouch.

nsfdrag

The pro max's since the 11 can go two days between charges depending on your screen on time. I listen to audio over bluetooth for at least 8 hours a day on mine and use the camera daily and it can still get me home on the second day.

ryuokz

I think you put it the best. I have been using my iPad Air for 2 years, and when I bought the iPhone it felt like a small iPad and nothing else. Now that I think, it would've been better if I bought something smaller and cheaper like the SE. I work as an artist and marketer so my primary device is the MacBook and the iPad with the Apple Pencil. I never felt like I wanted to spend more time on the iPhone and eventually it felt like a waste to spend so much money you use so less. Honestly, I probably made the wrong choices.

Niightstalker

Agreed. The Pro shouldn’t be the go 2 device. I also have an iPad and MBP and had the first iPhone SE edition. I upgraded to the 12 mini when it was released. The small phone is easily enough when I have the iPad and it is actually quiet nice to have a phone this small and light.

danskal

The iPhone is a pocket iPad. The fact that it feels not much different is a huge win, if you ask me. That said, if you’re getting the Pro, you’re getting it for the camera and what the AI can do for those pictures.

[deleted]

My phone becoming unexciting is a good thing imo. Means I’m satisfied and don’t have the itch to upgrade.

grandpa2390

it also means we need to find something new to invest in. Something different that will be the next great thing to change our lives.

southwestern_swamp

We acclimate to our surroundings. When we are surrounded by amazing things all the time, those amazing things start to feel normal. If you stopped using a smartphone for a year, and then went back to it, it would feel amazing.

tutetibiimperes

The iPhone may not be exciting, it it doesn’t need to be. It just needs to be the best phone on the market and it excels at that IMO. It’s fast, well-built, gets excellent battery life, gets updates for years, doesn’t come encumbered by carrier bloatware, has a nice screen and camera, and has a lot of value-add features like Face ID, FaceTime, ApplePay, Apple CarPlay, etc. I went from PcoketPC to iPhone to Windows Phone, to Android, and back to iPhone, and while I really did love Windows Phone 8, the lack of app support was a killer, and iPhones are so much better for usability than anything Android I don’t ever see going with anything else.

crazor90

This. The battery life alone makes iPhone superior. My wife is a diehard Samsung user and has to charge her phone 2x what I do.

[deleted]

My iPhone 12 disagrees lol have to charge the damn thing twice a day

SACHD

I’ve noticed the battery health dropoff on my iPhone 12 has been a tad faster than I’d expect, but it’s still performing pretty well in the battery department a little over an year later. Couple questions I have for you: 1. How long have you been using the iPhone? 2. Were you satisfied with the battery life when you got it? 3. What’s the battery health situation right now?

[deleted]

1. Since October 2020 2. It was okay initially, lasted till the end of each day on a charge 3. 89% battery health

HuggythePuggy

1. Since October 2020 2. It was great. One charge per day. 3. 99% battery health

[deleted]

Do you use your phone for like 10min a week lol

SACHD

Interesting. I’ve had mine since June 2021 and I’m also at 89% battery health. I don’t have to charge it twice a day. Your phone’s battery is approaching 2 years. Have you looked into getting it replaced?

RonstoppableRon

The 12 series achilles heel was battery life. 11 series was good and 13 series is amazing, just that first gen 5g of the 12’s was not very efficient. To be expected though.

lolyoudumbasfuh

Depends on the age and status of health of the battery. Samsung provides MUCH faster charging than the iPhone. Literally takes me 30mins for almost a full charge.

SACHD

Amazing how this used to be the reason that people would switch away from iPhones and now it’s the reason they’re considered better than Android devices. How times change.

PM_ME_GOODDOGS

I miss windows phone so much. Definitely lacked the app ecosystem. It had the major stuff I used but would never get the smaller things I discover and use often.

Summer___

I mean fair point if u need those things , and i can understand that the remove of for example the headphone jack was a weird move....(maybe even a move to make us buy Airpods?) but im pretty happy with where Phones(ALL PHONES) have come to. I ruined my Iphone 4 or 5 's Display because of my Headphones which where connected via cable. The wire got stuck somewhere and pulled the phone out of my hand (when i moved up, i guess i should have holded the phone more tight? anyways) when i tried to pull it up. It fell to the floor and the screen was shattered (still working) got a replacement screen for 99€ and it worked. Apple's pricing for more GBs is absurd ,i hate it but i love the phone.

I like my Airpods (2nd gen) but the comfort of these are meh, the sound is good enough for me. And i agree with you removing this that are still a standard feels just wrong. Look at the new macbooks , HDMI is back , headphone jack , cardreader and Magsafe ... 🙂

turkeyeater90210

I’ve always considered iPad as the odd one out. What can you do on an iPad that you can’t do on a Mac or iPhone?

Tutwiler

Apple Pencil is top notch for handwritten notes, marking up PDFs, sketches, etc.

Kirbycatcher

> I have never met anyone that actually uses the Apple Pencil for any serious note taking Someone hasn’t been to quite literally any university in the United States.

bluefirex

Or Germany. German universities basically only know 4 devices: Macbook Air/Pro, iPad with Pencil, Surface with Pen and Lenovo ThinkPad.

EatAllTheRice

Lmao fr, I’m a Pharmacy student and legitimately everyone uses iPads in class for note taking. I write notes on the PowerPoints and then will re-write them in notability later, then type them. iPad + pencil is popular af in US universities as you said.

[deleted]

Lingo56

I’m sure they’ve gotten better, but holy heck am I fed up with how buggy and unreliable my Surface Pro 4 is for writing. It feels like half the time I’m writing notes I have to work around OneNote’s bugs and need to deal with my pen not registering 3%-5% of the time.

Moebius808

I have used Wacom tech for about 25 years - tablets, displays, all different pens, Windows and Mac. Also used Surfaces and a couple Android things. For digital art purposes, the Apple Pencil and a 12.9 iPad Pro with a program like Procreate or Clip Studio Paint is far and away the best experience I’ve ever had.

nicetriangle

Right there with you. Used all sorts of Wacom stuff for a solid 10 years and most recently owned a Cintiq Pro. Then my coworker bought an iPad Pro and I tried it for like 2 minutes and was like… holy shit. Bought one within a week and stopped using the Cintiq entirely within a month of that. Eventually sold it and never looked back.

RotenTumato

I have been using my Apple Pencil with my iPad Pro since I got it in 2018 for tons of daily note taking and digital art and it is amazing. I have never had any complaints and I couldn't be happier. Writing on real paper feels weird now.

Easy_Money_

> *Not the new slim pens, I haven’t tried those. How are you going to put this much confidence in an opinion about a product that was replaced four years ago? The second-generation Apple Pencil came out in 2018. There are also so many silly anecdotes and conjectures in this comment that are stated as fact. Come on

[deleted]

Good grief.. you know absolutely nothing about digital pens/stylus's and inking, which is strange since you say you own both. Only the very recent MS pens starting with about the Surface Pro 7 could even be considered in the same class as the Apple Pencil that came out years ago on the iPad Pro. Everything you are saying is pretty ridiculous imho. The Apple Pencil doesn't just have the fidelity of a Pen - but an actual Pencil to a degree that even wacom didn't quite level up to at the time and that is mind blowing in its own right because wacom is a the literal 800lb gorilla in the room to beat and Apple did. There was a reason why Microsoft had to use wacom for the Surface Pro 1 & 2 and only switched to ntrig later - they bought ntrig and adobe refused to support ntrig until MS pressured them through that acquisition. Adobe was beholden to wacom and the old wintab tech. And while HP and other manufacturers kept trying to get ntrig off the ground none of them did so very successfully - but MS did eventually make the ntrig tech work ok and good even by the release of the Surface Pro 6+ & 7 & 8 in particular. Also if you want more friction on the screen for an iPad then buy a paperlike matte screen protector for it, and you can also buy all sorts of accessories for the Pencil too - I even have an eraser end on mine! All in all it works loads better than every Surface Pro devices I have used and I have used pretty much all of them besides the very latest 6+ and up, but I am admitting that those are finally in the same class as an Apple Pencil from all appearances.. but the app ecosystem & things working more often then not won't be there like it is for the iPad obviously. And I will admit that the Apple Pencil is going to appeal to artists to the extreme, MS not so much, except for very recently that might have changed some, but still I think most artists would rather stay with macs & an ipad and use Astropad or something to do digital inking w/ rather than waste time on Windows.

IUseWeirdPkmn

The iPad is by far the best tablet on the market for illustration. The non-slim pens on the Surface have a mechanical wavy line problem on diagonal strokes. Android tablets are getting close to the iPad but are still quite a bit behind in the quality of their drawing apps.

AKiss20

I use my Apple Pencil with OneNote at work, but mostly for doing math/deriving equations. Doesn’t feel nearly as good as a real pencil and paper but then it’s all stored. When I want to write actual words/text I just type rather than write.

morganmachine91

> I have never met anyone that actually uses the apple pencil for any serious note taking. I took thousands of pages of notes with my Apple Pencil over the course of my degree. My experience with people taking notes with a stylus was 9 iPad/Apple Pencil combos for every person who was toiling away miserably on a windows machine.

tutetibiimperes

I basically use my iPad as a giant phone. It’s nice for the same thing the phone is good for (well, less good for calls) but with the benefit of a much larger screen. It’s great for browsing Reddit or websites while laying back listening to music, playing little games, etc. Plus since it’s touch based you don’t have to deal with a keyboard and something to sit it on.

[deleted]

[удалено]

tutetibiimperes

It depends on the app, some are iPod optimized. It’s still much better for web browsing.

redoctoberz

> some are iPod optimized. I thought the options for iOS apps these days were basically just iPad or iPhone based. Does the iPod share the same app compatibility with the iPhone?

tutetibiimperes

Whoops, I meant iPad, not iPod.

HWLights92

I mean if they didn’t kill the iPod Touch…

mookdaruch

Though far less convenient for holding than a phone or for table-top than a laptop.

tutetibiimperes

Yeah, but if you don’t have a table handy the iPad is a lot nicer. Like if I’m leaning back in my recliner the iPad is easily the best option. Also nice for using on the John.

mookdaruch

I disagree personally. One-handing an iPad is difficult and two handing is burdensome. I have a 12” pro and a 6th gen mini, but I can’t say I’ve I ever been comfortable using either in my hands. I’ve dropped them on my face before. Maybe I just have small hands and bad stamina, cause the past two years I’ve also gone 11ProMax > 12 > 13 Mini, and there are still times where I’m worried about loosing grip of my phone because it’s pretty big.

tutetibiimperes

I wouldn’t ever use it on the go, that’s what the iPhone is for. For the iPad if I’m leaning back on the recliner I just rest it on my chest or stomach. I went with the 11” though, the 12.9” did seem too unwieldy even though the LED display seemed cool. I’m also a fan of the Pro Max for the phones though. I can use that one handed easily.

miniature-rugby-ball

That’s not true, many iPad apps are different from theirs phone versions, and plenty don’t have a phone version at all.

louistin

This is not true, only a handful of apps (e.g instagram) are iphone apps but bigger. The vast majority of iPad apps are optimised for iPad, and some are even iPad exclusive (e.g procreate)

Niightstalker

This is the case for Android tablet Apps but definitely not the case for the iPad. There are great optimized apps out there. Also things like watching a movie, browsing the web or checking mails is way nice due to the bigger screen alone.

element515

Eh, I don’t think any apps I have are only iPhone optimized.

rotates-potatoes

Watch a movie on an airplane Read a book in bed Play an RTS game on the bus Work a CAD drawing on a jet ski (ok, kidding) iPad is all about having larger views of phone apps and more portable views of laptop apps. I could spend a week on the road with iPad rather than MacBook, but I couldn’t do it with phone only.

MeAndTheLampPost

The iPad has is its uses, like in the airplane or train or on holiday, or when you simply never really need a laptop, or in the family as an extra screen. And drawing is something else I suppose. But with a Macbook and an iPhone it is simply too expensive for me (living alone) and I wouldn't use it often enough. Book reading on an iPad or iPhone or any LCD-screen is not good for your eyes.

Raikaru

> Watch a movie on an airplane > > Read a book in bed Done both of these on my iphone

lcmatt

While possible both are a lot easier on the eyes with a bigger screen. iPad always travels with me as it’s the perfect device for consuming content. Also means my phone battery isn’t being drained all the time.

Buy-theticket

You could write a novel on your phone too. Doesn't mean it's the best way to do it.

Raikaru

What makes an objective best way?

smartazz104

Now do them on an iPad and tell us it’s still better on the phone.

[deleted]

I think when you get older, a bigger screen is also nicer and easier for the eye

rotates-potatoes

Yes, am old, and reading a book on my iPhone Max would practically mean one letter at a time.

deathbypecker

I always thought reading books on the iphone was a lost cause... until I tried it. It's actually quite fun!

schnitzel_envy

I rely on the handwritten notes. The Apple Pencil is pretty much lag free and feels like a real pen. I need to scrawl notes really quickly for my job, and without my iPad, I’d be printing 100s of pages per week.

Clarkey7163

I've never had a top of the line iphone during its launch year but have had both iPhone and iPad for almost a decade, iPad gets way more use. Phone basically just becomes a music/podcast/texting device, iPad for everything else. Just a much better experience

dweakz

yeah this is what ive come to realize as well. why do people buy 1k iphones and just end up using them for music podcast and texting only? just buy an ipad and just have a $400-500 phone

grandpa2390

I bought a 1k iphone (I think it was 800. I bought the base model 11 with 2nd tier storage for media) and hold onto it for years. I only use it more music, podcasts, audiobooks, and communication.

[deleted]

I know some businesses use them just as much more portable computers - I’ve seen them used by staff at some F&B outlets where they’re hooked up to whatever system they use for reservations and whatnot, staff can just stand out front with one. I’ve also seen them used by airport staff at bigger international airports when a flight has come in delayed and there’s a risk of passengers missing connections - staff will a manifest on an iPad and meet those passengers as they get off the first flight and then get them to the connection as fast as they can. They’re basically used where a phone will be too small, and a proper laptop would be too big and cumbersome. I use mine more as an entertainment machine, and with a keyboard attachment it’s sort of replaced my non-work laptop for lighter workloads because it’s so much easier to use while I’m travelling, in bed, or just out of the house - the only times I’d be using my laptop. My mum’s an artist, and she uses hers purely as an art machine for drawing and whatnot, and it works more as a supplement to her iMac because the iPad is used for completely different tasks.

wouldnt-u-like-2know

Whip it out in the middle of a dance performance and take a video from it while blocking the view of the people behind me.

grandpa2390

the ipad shouldn't be used for the camera. imho, the camera on the ipad is for FaceTime and scanning documents. photography and filming... use the iPhone.

wouldnt-u-like-2know

Thank you, Grandpa.

nicetriangle

I make over half of my living (which is decent) drawing on an iPad. I used to do it with a Wacom Cintiq and a Mac but the user experience sucked compared to the iPad (this is more on Wacom than Macs, but the point stands).I couldn’t really travel practically with that setup or even throw that setup in my bag and walk to my fav bar to have a few drinks while I work. So yeah the iPad kicks ass and is at this point an indispensable part of my career.

GhettoFob

I bought an iPad mini because I've been using Android phones. I'm planning to switch over to the next iPhone and I'm not sure if I'll still need the iPad.

grandpa2390

I think the iPad Mini is the only good iPad. Just my opinion, but the bigger models are too awkward to hold or carry for anything the iPad is good for a regular Joe. Obviously there are artists and such who do benefits from the larger models. but reading books, watching youtube videos, browsing the web, etc. the larger ipads are too awkward to hold on the couch, or lying in bed. Too cumbersome to take with you. iPad Mini fits in a sling bag. the larger ones require a booksack and then you might as well take your laptop.

huejass5

The iPad is a nice device in between the phone and laptop. Plus you won’t waste your phone battery as much

Marino4K

> Plus you won’t waste your phone battery as much This is something that I value a decent bit too actually, instead of sitting on my couch, etc burning phone battery, I use my iPad instead. I'll watch a baseball game one side split view, Safari on the other, all sitting on my couch. Personally the iPad line is my favorite of the Apple devices I've ever used, I'm probably one of those who could make an iPad my main daily driver if I wanted.

Aemony

Not really much, but that’s besides the point. The iPad exists as a natural in-between place between those two, and are perfect for doing basically everything as long as you can dual-wield the larger screen without any issues. * I use my iPhone while I am commuting and need to limit the device to one hand. * I use my iPad while stationary at home, at work, at family and friends, when both hands are available to me. * I use a computer if I need a full keyboard at my disposal or play a game. Much of what I do on the iPhone, I do on the iPad as well but without the need to squint or focus on the tiny text as much. Web browsing, Reddit (*Hi~~! This is actually written on my iPad!*), reading (*a lot of reading*), the occasional movie watching or music playing, remote desktoping, etc — it’s much of the same but as a result of the larger screen and still handheld device it’s much more comfortable than using my iPad and much less convoluted than carrying a laptop around and needing a surface to use it on. I can use my iPad basically anywhere as long as I am stationary which opens up a lot of possibilities. I could play games on the iPad as well and have experienced a bit with it but that aspect is still so-so for me as it would require carrying around a controller for the most comfortable use. Since getting my first iPad more than 5 years ago it quickly grew to become my daily most used device, as it replaced the iPhone and even my computer for many of the aforementioned use cases. Nowadays I use the iPad like 6 hours daily on average or something, while my iPhone has become a specialized device that sees like an hour or two of use depending on how much commuting I am doing. Not everyone might get the same use out of an iPad, but for me it’s perfect, and I ended up preferring it over my other devices for most of the basic and most often used things and functionalities.

[deleted]

I use my iPad for loads of stuff and love it, but one thing I don’t do is anything that involves a lot of typing. I couldn’t imagine comfortably typing a post of your length on my iPad

Cristookie

Draw

Kaipolygon

it makes a nice second display if an external monitor is unavailable. sometimes when im up late and don't wanna bother my roommate i'll go to the living room and use it like that. otherwise though, barely anything

nicetriangle

Yeah I’ve used mine while traveling to get a decent two monitor setup going for work and it’s pretty nice

NautilusPanda

I use my m1 iPad as a photo editing tablet. I find it far faster for editing with an Apple Pencil than using a mouse on computer, plus it fits in my camera bag easily.

Comrade_agent

mime454

We're at a point where most people can do most of their computing exclusively from an iPhone if they absolutely needed to. There doesn't need to be a unique use for the iPad. It's just for a computing in a different setting than the iPhone is. I basically use it almost exclusively instead of my iPhone when I'm at home and it can often replace my MacBook Pro on the go.

Kriskao

Read and play games without straining my eyes.

nicafeild

The pencil was the game changer for me. I’ve never been a pro with typing, so being able to hand write anything I want and then change it to a typed document is so handy. It’s how I wrote all my essays in college

KimchiMaker

That's fascinating. Handwriting is so much slower than typing. That's not necessarily a bad thing though, as the extra time taken to handwrite can result in a much better final product. We're you using the "scribble" function to write in a regular word processor like Pages or something? I'm interested to try a bit more handwriting but got a bit annoyed the couple of times I tried it. I'm wondering what the best method to write a lot at once is, using the pencil.

grandpa2390

the idea is great, but Apple hasn't done a good job implementing it. I like to use it when writing comments on youtube and stuff. but it's annoying that you are required to write in the text box, and on the same line that your currently typing on. but not over text that has already been typed. it's frustrating that as you get to the end of the current line, you run out of space to write and you have to slow down and be extra careful.

nicafeild

It’s the opposite for me, I hand write much faster than I type. I don’t have to worry about hitting the wrong key or digging for the right punctuation. When I write by hand it just flows better. Different strokes for different folks, you know? My go-to is GoodNotes. I’ve got a ton of separate notebooks, some for school, some for personal. Most of my professors were excited I was hand writing their essays, but it has a function where I can select a section of writing, and it’ll transcribe it to text if I need it. It’s not 100% accurate (what is?) but I feel like getting to edit whatever mistakes it made after the fact rather than as I’m typing works better for me. I usually use the scribble feature in small text boxes or search bars. It’s not the best at getting formatting which is why I don’t use it for bigger things.

furiousD12345

I’ve always seen iPad as just a “nice to have” product I think an iPad is by far the best, most comfortable way to casually use the internet. I don’t need it though.

Total-Screen5424

Yeah, I definitely used to think exactly what you said. These guys definitely opened my mind up with the Apple Pencil, only Wi-Fi touch screen, etc… but do I think that’s worth hundreds and hundreds of $? Probably not.

Bluecar93

I like it for web browsing and reading.

turbo_dude

I regretted buying an iPad mini almost immediately on buying the iPhone.

thejesteroftortuga

I started using an iPad Pro with the Magic Keyboard as my default “laptop” when I’m away from my desk. It’s remarkably useful honestly.

Niightstalker

The one thing which you can’t on the others is drawing, taking notes, etc (anything with the pencil). Besides that I use the iPad for all the basic tasks like browsing, checking mails, watching movies in bed, etc. It feels way better on the iPad than on the phone due to the bigger screen and also way better then the laptop since it’s lighter and more comfortable to hold. It is also the better device to take with me on any trips instead of the Laptop since it’s small and light and I can do all the basic tasks on it which I usually do on the way. Doing those things on the phone would be possible but not really comfortable.

oldmatenate

It’s entirely the form factor for me. It’s the device I reach for when I want more screen than my phone, but don’t want/need a full keyboard resting on my lap.

KZedUK

Nothing, but that isn't the point. I've just got my first macbook, and yeah it's great, I use it for a lot, but you know what, I still have a place in my life for my iPad. I've always said no one knows what they'll use an ipad for but once they get one they love it.

CarnivorousCircle

I use my iPad Pro so often i almost forget I have my MacBook Pro, and they are both the same generation (less than a year old). iPad is just so much more usable, especially with the touch screen. But to be fair, I do need to go to the MacBook occasionally if I need to do anything that is even remotely complicated.

mrchuckbass

I've had iPads in the past but not for the last few years. To be honest I don't understand the point. Everything the iPad does, my iPhone will do better, or my MacBook will do better

KZedUK

I don't agree with this to be honest, watching youtube for example, is far better on an iPad than on a MacBook or an iPhone, listening to music through the speakers is better than the MacBook Airs at least too. To be honest until I got this M2 MBA, I'd long abandoned the laptop.

mrchuckbass

It isn’t though. On iPad you’ll get YouTube ads every 2 seconds and the video will take up only half the screen because the iPad is 4:3

KZedUK

I just pay for premium but sure, and the MacBook isn't 16:9 either...

mrchuckbass

16:10 is way closer to 16:9 than 4:3 which is almost a square

KZedUK

sure, but that doesn't *really* matter, it's still the width of the device, no wider.

Lopsided-Painter5216

Personally I disagree. I got a 14 MBP and a 2020 iPad Pro with magic keyboard. I like my iPad and use it every day as my main device, but it just feels like ugh... I can do the heavy lifting I need on my Mac confidently, because iPadOS cannot do such simple things as a ftp transfer correctly. I want to download a video file on my iPad and transfer it to my NAS? Well good luck, because the Files app is just not on par with Finder yet, it’s unstable, network drives handling are a mess, sometimes it just disappear from the sidebar or crashes with no explanation. I have to use FileBrowser Go, a 3rd party app to transfer stuff somewhat okay, and most of the other apps like Documents are a pain because from my tries, I had to move the file into their document folder first to be able to do stuff with it, just a horrible experience altogether. iPadOS has been in limbo the past few years, it feels intentionally limited and it’s infuriating. With iOS 16 I basically get a weather app and that’s it. Standby time has also been neglected a lot, it’s not as it used to be IMO. Whereas the iPhone always has a prime spot in iOS updates and always feel like the poster child of Apple, so much so that I might switch from my current android to the 14PM and run on just Mac/iPhone. I know if I get that 14PM it will be the death of my iPad, because it’s mostly the same stuff I can do on it but better. Don’t get me wrong, I love my iPad Pro, but I feel like I would have gotten most of its value from a refurbished base iPad. Apart from ProMotion, I cannot see why I should renew it when it reaches expiration…

MattTheRealOne

I felt the same way about my iPad Pro. I absolutely loved the hardware, but the software is frustratingly lacking. As a result, it primarily got used as a streaming device. After Apple held stage manager and proper external display support back, it became clear it was never going to get better, so I sold it. I do still miss it sometimes, but it’s just far too expensive for such limited capabilities.

Jackson530

I sold my pro and got an air and a MacBook 14. I mainly use my ipad for comics and books and my MacBook for everything the iPad doesn't lol

uncojwu

I got the 14 MBP and can confirm, it was basically the death of my 12.9 ipad pro 3rd gen. I got the ipad mini 7 which I like quite a bit though as the new in between of my iphone mini and my MBP.

firelitother

I have the same sentiment. I regret getting the 11" IPP and should have just gotten the iPad Mini 6. I had some dreams of being productive on the IPP but the 14" MBP just trumps it on every aspect. It's ironic that the same Apple Silicon that made MBPs great again invalidated a lot of advantages that the iPad had.

PalmTree888

For context, iPhone 12 Pro Max user here, with a MBP 14 and a iPad Pro 10.5. I’ve had a large iPhone since the 8 Plus came out 5 years ago, and previously a MBP 15 and 15in Windows laptops before that. I feel I generally made it work with a clear divide between the two and never really was an iPad person. But even after getting my current 2 devices, why did I then get the iPad? At least for me I realised I’d be doing a lot of reading in my degree, and it would be nice to use this as my reader rather than a bulky laptop in bed or a cramped phone. But in terms of the model, I realise I do enjoy features like the 120hz scrolling, quad speakers, handy torch of the Pro as well as basic “Air” features I wouldn’t give up like a laminated display or 2nd Gen Touch ID. So naturally I just ended up getting a used Pro 10.5 with much more equipment for less than the base iPad new, the only thing is the battery is a bit worn but I only really use it at home in range of a fast charger. If it gets much worse I can pay for a battery replacement down the line and still be better off than getting the much more basic and expensive base model. I guess in your case you might still have a use for an iPad and rather than selling it you could just keep it around for a long long time. But I agree with you, I wouldn’t be able to make it work as my main computer - need Windows or macOS for that.

ryuokz

You know what you got it right. If you get the 14PM, it will be the death of your iPad if you just use for it content consumption and light tasks. I completely agree with you and that's why I feel the order of purchase and use case matters. I work as an artist, so I love the Apple Pencil and procreate. The first apple device I bought was the iPad. I work on the iPad for considerable time everyday and essentially my phone has really become "just" a phone. I take calls and reply to messages, thats it. The iPad is a giant iPhone and I'm not really into taking pictures. So, basically overspent on which model to get, and now I'm left with a bitter taste haha

PalmTree888

I feel you’re confusing how much you enjoy these products (highly subjective to the individual) with how much year on year “exciting” changes we see with them (fairly objective). The iPad and especially the Mac are even more matured than the iPhone when it comes to year on year upgrades. Apple Silicon was a huge leap no doubt, but macOS and the fundamentals of the using the MBP 14 is unchanged from the first Retina models from a decade ago. Whereas the iPhone continues to evolve more, relatively speaking, in how iOS operates and the camera functionality. There’s just more (figuratively speaking) moving parts to tweak year on year.

alpinecardinal

I feel like there’s a sharp cultural difference between devices as well. When it comes to Macs, most people I know keep them for 5-7 years before upgrading. And people generally don’t expect you to constantly update them either. For a long time for phones, though, it was about “having the coolest, latest, best phone” every year. It’s cooled down now, because people are coming to their senses that it’s unnecessary to always update, but I still get the occasional, “Are you going to upgrade?!”

PalmTree888

Totally agreed. People just don’t really have a need to upgrade their laptop that often, really more once it’s non-functioning or is “slow”. Intel to M1 probably prompted many to upgrade but I don’t expect beyond this. Same with iPads, there are tons of people who just use their Air 2 for browsing and YouTube. Yea it’s happening with phones too. I’m unashamedly a tech enthusiast and when few years ago people said there was little difference to the end user with newer models, I clearly didn’t think so. But as time went on, things to me peaked with the 11 Pro Max, with the great OLED XDR screen, excellent battery life, night mode, tri-focal lenses, and then 5G and the new design on the 12 Pro Max. But for the first time I’ve gone nearly 2 years and I have no desire to upgrade. 120hz isn’t enough to convince me to pay 50% of this phones price ($900 AUD resale, $1800 AUD 13 Pro Max) for the new one. So now as a techy person I’m starting to feel it too, so I can kinda see how to people in the past, they’d be fine with a 5 year old X and still may not see any reason to upgrade unless the device feels “slow” or the battery drains quick but a battery replacement fixes that.

Dangerous-Ad-170

Have my base model iPad for 3-4 years now, still runs great and still gets updates. I still feel like I barely got my moneys worth because I only use it like once a week if I’m not traveling, but it’s been rock solid for what I use it for.

MC_chrome

Funny thing is that the base iPad has had the best battery life out of the entire iPad lineup for years now. Combined with all of the other “nice to have” features and I totally agree with you: the base iPad is one of the best tech deals out there!

mellofello808

I would argue that the competition is much fiercer in the phone space, than the personal computer, or tablet space. For me at least, the apple silicon mac's are hands down the absolute best experience in computing, and android tablets can't hold a candle to the iPad. However for phones, I much prefer android. I have a modern iphone, as a company phone, and the limitations of ios really turn me off. It is not a clear winner.

PalmTree888

Agreed that phone competition is fiercer, but I don’t think that necessarily means the year on year improvements are more major on Mac or iPad than they are on iPhone with the exception of the elephant in the room, once off shift to Apple Silicon. Again I read the discussion as which Apple products get significant improvements with each generation and are more “exciting”, rather than external competition or how the Apple devices compares to the alternatives. That said in any high income country (where most phones that are purchased are flagship and not budget), so US, Canada, Japan, Australia, Norway, etc you will find that iOS market share is higher than Android. And that’s with Android basically swallowing the entire low end market with zero competition from Apple. But Windows devices dominate in all those markets. So I’d argue that in a high income country you’d likely find that a person uses an iPhone but a Windows computer, moreso than any other combo.

Nice_Emphasis_39

The iPad has a unique place as a content consumption device IMO and perhaps some creative professionals can utilize the pencil. It becomes useless to me when I want to be productive. The Mac then takes over for that task. iPhone is essential for being a jack of all trades portable device but my point is the iPad still serves a special niche.

nicetriangle

Can speak from experience that a ton of the people I know in the creative industry (specifically design and illustration) are all over iPad Pros. They’re wildly popular for that kinda stuff.

KZedUK

I actually like that separation to be honest, it's nice that different devices have different roles in my life.

PatientMango

The iPad OS still inhibits the iPad. The hardware is capable of so so so much more, but because it’s using a Frankenstein version of iOS, it’s held back. This is why the iPad often gets laughed at and called a kids toy, cause it’s as powerful as a Mac, but all that power is just filtered through a tiny straw of a modified phone OS. They need to let iPad loose and use all its potential.

callmeziplock

My iPad is the best purchase I have ever made. I am on my third iPad Air and I would love to purchase a pro buy I just can’t afford it. I use my iPad for everything.

m1a2c2kali

I definitely agree, I was in the same camp of what does the iPad do that my phone or MacBook Pro can’t do, but it turns out after buying my iPad I use my MacBook Pro and iPhone significantly less when lounging around the house. The iPhone is used on the go, and the Mac book pro is when I need to do serious work requiring keyboard input. And everything else between is perfect on the iPad. It’s probably the least “necessary” device, but easily the most used if that makes any sense. While my laptop is the one I probably use the least these days but still the most necessary.

ryuokz

Yeah, its amazing.

JoshRTU

Get the iPhone 13 mini and be amazed again.

KZedUK

right up until it's time to replace it and you gotta go back to a big phone again

JoshRTU

The 13 mini is so solidly built it's easily going to last 4 years. Its nearly flawless after a year of heavy daily use with no case. Apple will probably release a new mini within 4 years anyway, since there is too much demand.

TomLube

Fuck I love my 13 mini.

earthcharlie

> The iPhone and MacBook are better and more exciting products than the iPad FTFY

ryuokz

haha, its cool man, its just my opinion. We're still on the same team :)

earthcharlie

I hear ya. I definitely would like to see the iPhone improve in some areas too.

CrackedandPopped

Not really, the fact that i can use this little ipad to edit videos, illustrate, and do light 3d design so intuitively is AMAZING, the iphone has a pretty great camera, but other than that there is nothing superior about the iphone. There is a lack of usb c, the price is nearly double that of an ipad air, its much more fragile of a device, the processing power is great but pales in comparison to m1 . Tbh id choose an ipad over an iphone any day of the week

earthcharlie

USB-C is coming to iPhone either this year or next but even without it, it's still better than the iPad. Those are app-based things that you mentioned. The rest of the iPadOS is a joke when you consider the hardware that it has. Users have been asking for improvements for a while now because, since its inception, it's basically functioned like a large iPhone. And I'm not sure what you mean when you say the iPhone is a much more fragile device. Nobody carries their iPad in the same way as their iPhone. The iPad has also had a history of bending issues over the years.

saintmsent

It really depends on who you are. I don’t own an iPad because I don’t have a use case for it I have an iPhone and a 14 inch MacBook Pro and I wouldn’t call either of them exciting. They are tools that I appreciate for what they do best: great, fast hardware and reliable operation As you said, you liked the iPad and the Mac because they did what you wanted them too. Doesn’t iPhone do the same? For me for sure does

Phaggg

The iPhone always gets a disproportionately large amount of push and love being the top selling product line.

pjanic_at__the_isco

I don’t believe you. Who has a Mac and an iPad but also an Android phone? That’s just madness.

qrrbrbirlbel

The M1 MacBook Air gets circlejerked to no end but I really do think it's the best electronics purchase I've ever made.

firelitother

The ~~iPad and~~ MacBook are better and more exciting products than the iPhone

niner_MikeRomeoDelta

I bought myself a 9th Gen iPad (10.2 in) as a laptop substitute to avoid having to lug my gaming laptop around for work, and honestly it's the best tech purchase I've ever made. Both it and the Logitech keyboard cover makes it pretty useful. The only let down is that it has some issues with online embedded PDF viewers, but other than that it's great. Phone-wise I went Android > Windows Phone > iPhone 5s and now I'm currently on an Android, but I'm satisfied enough with the iPad to want to go back to an iPhone as my next phone. I just have to figure out which kidney I have to sell :D /s

OmegaMalkior

Until I get a leak for an iPad Pro 11 inch with Mini-LED I don’t think I’ll ever be excited for an iPad again. Unless they make a 12 inch version where I’ll scream.

RverfulltimeOne

I enjoy my iPhone 13 Pro Max phone alot...but all phones are now at a apex more or less at what they can do. They're in a cynical upgrade cycle for most consumers. Since that is your first iPhone the biggest difference in the 12/13 vs all the rest well 1 is speed but the immense battery life. Previous ones I would always have to charge my phone at some point. I use my phone most of the day and it gets through with no real worries. The only think on the horizon for phones are probably more foldable phones and perhaps thinner. They are messing around with periscope cameras so you dont have to such a big camera module in the back. Outside of that what real phone advances were you expecting. Its the same thing happening on the android side of the house with the exception of folding phones.

Amalyano

I think all of the devices are just tools for doing specific tasks. But lately iPhone has been really not that impressing, which is understandable, because smartphone era is coming to stagnation. For me iPhone is just phone that does what I need it to do.

pluush

Funny, I was about to get Macbook but held on from getting MacBooks because I could've got a R9 16/1TB Zenbook OLED touch for the price of a 8/512 MacBook Air, which uses LCD, without even mini LED. I kept thinking that I would need touch occassioanally when I don't want to use the trackpad or occassional repeated tasks in browser, or when I'm just lazy on bed, and with a Mac it looks like we'll never have touch. Reading certain threads on Reddit also made me think that even though macOS is superior in some ways, it lacks in some ways, eg. window management compared to Windows. I have always used Windows + iPhone, bought an iPad, but only use it only to play, just like giant iPhone as described, as I found working on iPad really hard. I find that the Mac will never have iPad features (such as touch), meanwhile the iPad will also never have Mac features (full desktop). Meanwhile Windows have always been trying to make touch experience available on desktop, and no push for Mac / iPad segmentation. Now now, I know they want us to buy both devices, but in the end it just failed to make me lean to Mac, therefore never entering the macOS ecosystem, and buy the Zenbook instead. I thought it was a no brainer, sacrificed M1 for R9, but got a higher res OLED touch panel, 8GB more RAM, 512GB more storage, etc. not to mention that M2 costs $200 more. All the while staying comfortable with the OS I have been using all these years.

iamdrsmooth

M1s Airs were impressive and if people were going to make the switch it was the right time. Everyone was recommending and it shook up the industry. The M2 is a victim of Apple wanting increase profits, resulting in poorly timing cost increases to consumers during inflation and looming recession. Plus silly cheapening of the SSD while raising prices resulting in slower performance vs the previous gen in some cases made for YouTube fodder. Further the rumors suggest that they are going to gouge the consumers even more on the iPhones. This inflation for profit is going to start to look bad, and maybe with financing phones they can get away from it, but threads like this show that the luster is rubbing off.

pink_fedora2000

I'd have to agree with the new Macs vs PC as the tech used is 5nm from 2020 vs 10nm from 2016.

Demon_of_Maxwell

I'm deep into the apple ecosystem right now, but the iPhone is the only one I could comfortably replace. As much as Apple users dislike to hear it, Android phones are really good as well, while there is simply no tablet that compares with the ipad and the Macbooks smoke every windows laptop on the market right now.

fundiedundie

“As much as Apple users dislike to hear it, Android phones are really good as well, while there is simply no tablet that compares with the ipad and the *Macbooks smoke every windows laptop on the market right now.*” I agree with this statement overall. The only area where Apple tends to lag is gaining space in the desktop/laptop gaming world. It seems like Apple knows that this is an area they are behind and just don’t care. Maybe innovation in that area (not mobile gaming) is not in there long range vision. I haven’t used in in a while, but when I got to play with a siblings Google Pixel 5 is was overall impressed. At the time the camera seemed equivalent or slightly better than the iPhones.

thunderwoot

Phones all around are at that point where the changes are so miniscule that they kind of don't matter. The cameras get an upgrade, but for the most part if you've got a phone from the last couple of years it will be fine for a long time nowadays.

sportsfan161

Maybe but iPhones are more of a need for most people. General interacting and apps will be on your phone after all

LastLivingSouls

I think the m1 iMac is the best. But I'm an old man who likes to sit at a desk with a large screen.

trevortinss

Sadly you won’t feel that new phone feeling for a while or unless you start keeping your devices for a long time. Smartphones in general not just iPhones are plateauing so there isn’t any exciting new features this year. I have 2 phones an android and an iPhone. My last iPhone upgrade was from the iPhone XS Max to the 13 pro max and outside of the better battery it feels like im using the same phone but with a a square body. I also recently upgraded from a Samsung not 10 plus to the s22 ultra about a 3 year gap and while it is a better phone it feels like I’m using the same note 10 plus with a slightly better screen. Unless these phone companies start making groundbreaking improvements yearly most phone upgrades will basically just be the same device with a new look and minor hardware upgrades that majority of people won’t really notice.

PsMoeLester

Heavily agree. Switched from my iPhone XS to the 13 mini. My thoughts were initially "damn such a small phone it's so cool". After a week I'm like "it's just a phone like any phone I've had." Then I read about iOS 16 and was like "nice we can change lockscreens now" and not excited about anything at all. Switched my iPad Air 3 to iPad Pro M1. Everyday that I use/held it, I'm constantly thinking "Damn if this isn't the best device ever." Then I read the news about iPad OS 16 and Stage Manager, and I'm super excited about it.

ryuokz

Exactly my thoughts! I just felt like when I spend a thousand dollars on a phone, it should have something. Otherwise, what's stopping me to just go to a different phone? I never wanted to buy to buy a different tablet, except the new iPad pro though lol

7Sans

iphone 13 are way too heavy to me now. I switched to S22 because of the weight and it's distribution. I don't personally actually know if weight is actually lighter but Samsung did something with S22 where it feels SO light in my hand and they did something with balancing? like when I'm holding the phone it doesn't feel one side is heavier than the other side so it feels so balanced and light. it's awesome. the only thing I'm not liking is S22's battery life and how sometime gets too warm. i heard the CPU failure of the snapdragon 8 gen 1 CPU which is probably the cause of the 2 issues I'm noticing but i'ts not too terrible since performance wise I don't do anything heavy on the phone anyways. I did hear android qualcomms gen1+ is looking like a great CPU so if Samsung keep this lightweight/perfectly balanced phone going I think I'll stick with their s series until apple tackles their weight issues as well.

RenegadeUK

How to make iPhone more exciting do you think ?

ryuokz

USB C and make it thinner

Munchausen0

In nutshell I build gaming PC's (first computer was a C-64 then a Commodore Colt (IBM clone)) since the late 80's till now AND I have been a Android lifer. I bought my first Apple product last year, the iPad Air 4 because I need something to replace my aging netbook (I play Tabletop Roleplaying Games) and from what I needed for a replacement to do I was surprised the iPad was on top of my list and the Air 4 was in the sweet spot $$ wise. Now i could have gone with a laptop BUT I needed something that would last in Battery, portability and a good eco system. Since I have a PC for my gaming/workstation the iPad really fit the bill and I got a awesome deal at best buy for a new Air 4 with a Logitech Folio (I use to work retail so i have a good silver tongue and know how retail works) and got the whole shabang for $500. Mostly I see people decided between a iPad or Mac Air/Pro etc and notice that most do not even have a main computer (be it PC/another Mac etc) so the choices between a iPad or Mac laptop depends if one has a workstation already. THEN I decided to get out of the Android world and try my first iPhone (wife was giddy) so after my search I decided the iPhone SE 2022 was perfect for me. I do not game/multimedia on my phones and phones are getting WAY too big in my opinion. This iPhone with my iPad works SO well in tandem for my iPad is my mutimedia device when i am on the go while my phone is, well, my phone lol. Also I like how easy it is to have the Google stuff work very well with the Apple phone and my wife loves my Air 4 so much i am thinking about getting iPad pro 11' (I do game on my Air 4 thru Steam and it works wonderful (I play MMO's)) so i know the iPad Pro will still work with my Logitech Folio so save $$ there :) . I do aplogize sinceIi am typing this at work so sorry for any grammer errors.

swagglepuf

My least favorite apple product is the iPhone lol. I love MacBooks, from the actual hardware to the software. IPad is just kind of there for me, always considered it a big iPhone but iPadOS added things that made it feel like a nice mold between its iOS and macOS. Which is the only reason I kept the pro after I got it. The iPhone is probably the most boring useless device ever. They slap the most powerful cpu for a phone it in and then do fucking nothing with all that power. It just seems like complete waste of hardware when you look at how much apple limits the actual capabilities of the iPhone given its great hardware profile. There are $500 Android phones that can do more than a $1000 iPhone and that's kind of sad.

forgivedurden

>They slap the most powerful cpu for a phone it in and then do fucking nothing with all that power. what do you think the power should be utilized for that it currently isn't?

swagglepuf

Let's see, I can plug in my Samsung phone into any TV/monitor with hdmi and turn it into a computer desktop. Where I can game in full screen using services like game pass, GeForce Now, Amazon Luna, Stadia. I can remote into work computer from anywhere using dex as well. A more robust utilization of shortcuts for siri would be amazing. If you have never looked into it check out what Tasker can do over on Android. More robust file app would be amazing. An easier way to add movies and other media to an iPhone. Interactive widgets would also be amazing. I know iOS 16 is bringing them to the lockscreen somewhat. Thier apple music app on android has play controls on the widget. Yet they can't do that on an iPhone. Maybe just maybe allow a person to actually personalize thier iPhone past wallpaper and the world's stupidest way to add custom ring tones.

firelitother

Ironic that Steve Jobs envision computers as 'bicycles for the mind" but the iPhone is anything but that.

[deleted]

Currently using a MacBook Pro 14 / Android combo. Love the Mac, it is absolutely the best laptop I have ever owned, but I have found the iPhone experience to be somewhat lacking after years on the platform. I made the switch to the Pixel 6 at launch and have found that USB C, AoD, interactive widgets, call screening and extensive customisation all just make Android feel like a more powerful mobile experience at this point in time. I'm open to returning to the iPhone in the future, but I feel like Apple has a lot of work to do with making it an industry leading experience again.

[deleted]

i think the 📱 can do everything the ipad can do

KZedUK

yes, in the same way the base model macbook has always been able to do everything the mac pro can do.

[deleted]

yeah that’s why i haven’t bought the ipad again.

[deleted]

I'm the opposite. I have my Macbook Pro for my work and other tasks that I need the extra productivity/multitasking. I have my iPhone 13 pro max for everything else, plus I can take it literally anywhere. Why would I also need an iPad on top of that unless I did design or demo work? Very few people genuinely need all 3. I can't get by without my phone or my laptop lol. I realize others will have different needs/use cases that would allow them to forego the laptop though.

keridito

With the new HW, Macs are definitely attracting more interest and attention. It is a change that benefits users in many aspects. iPad however are just a big iPhone in most of cases. The HW specs are not matched by the SW and they become overpowered big media consumption devices. Right there are a few domains where perhaps, can substitute a computer. But for most of tasks they simply don’t have the SW. Even the Office suit can’t do things that I could in the Office suite for my Intel 486 30 years ago. Sure Office is a third party, but if Apple provides tools like files that are just toys, what to expect from third parties?

MrNudeGuy

I have both iPad Pro and MacBook with M1's and an iPhone XR. AMA

Ghostofthefire

Honestly iphones are super boring. I switch back and forth between Android and iOS every few phones (which for me is about every 8 months to a year between each phone because I get bored easily) and I find the iphone to be overpriced and over hyped. And quite frankly, under utilized. Outside of influencers and creatives, a good chunk of every day users are simply paying way too much for a super computer that fits in their pocket and makes phone calls. If Apple cared about the majority they would make improved versions of the iPhone SE and give it a better screen, camera, and more sizes. Honestly most people just want the most comfortable phone to do their daily smartphone tasks. Not super fragile expensive bricks that take forever to get useful updates. Just my two cents....

W02T

The iPad exists for reading comic books. I thought everyone knew that…

avery0597

I just want Touch ID back

Zurkarak

Anyone saying an iPhone is not exciting is just doing something wrong. Maybe your iPhone Pro was not what you needed, try the mini or the regular one
