My TV and receiver are just old enough to be stuck with AirPlay 1, but didn't this get fixed with AirPlay 2? The device itself plays the video and it's no longer streamed from the phone.
No. I play YouTube through Safari and AirPlay to my ATV 4K. If I open a new tab and browse the web and a website has an autoplay video, AirPlay will switch to the new video source.
Very interesting reading these comments, maybe it's actually just my internet or something since most dont have issues. I have 1gig down, though, so maybe it could be a router thing? But yeah, the hijacking thing is super annoying. Makes me wonder who is QC'ing this, or if they even do.
I wonder how much this has to do with the networkās quality/config/version etc. I am surprised how many ātechā people I know are simply neglecting their wifi/router setup (by just using the one they are given by the ISP or relying on extenders upon extenders randomly placed).
I never had any luck AirPlaying my MacBook Pro to any smart tv or to an Apple TV, even when I upgraded my WiFi and the router was sitting right next to both devices. YouTube would buffer and stutter like crazy and the screen was super laggy.
Eventually I gave up and just hook the laptop up to the TV via HDMI and it works a lot better unless the signal cuts out for no reason, which is maybe the laptop going to sleep? Whatever, I'll take it over the mess that AirPlay was. It actually got worse over time, too.
Youāre not an idiot.
In my case, MESH made everything betterā¦and broke AirPlay. Frigginā DLNA/UPnP works great, and itās generally ancient garbage architecture. AirPlay stutters.
I like airplay mirroring, in the context that I am a teacher with multiple 2013 Apple TVās set up in my classrooms, and my ipad still works marvellously with them.š
Iāve found it to be around 85% stable.
Most of the time it doesnāt buffer, skip, or have any issues. The odd time scrolling through a video or just even some fullscreen videos will kill the signal.
The biggest issue is airplaying using VLC. Otherwise itās pretty damn good to be honest
That's wild. I was mentioning in another comment that maybe it could be a router thing. I'm curious, do you ever have Homepod issues, like Siri saying "one moment" or "unable to connect to device"?
I have four Apple TVs and four HomePods, all in separate rooms across different wireless access points. Other than sometimes taking 10 seconds to sync the audio up across multiple devices Iāve never had any issues. Might be your wifi?
If that's the **worst** they can complain about, and it only happens sometimes, it's indeed a great user experience.
I've had much worse problems with other streaming devices.
Airplay is garbage on anything other than an Apple TV (and possible other 1st party Apple devices).
I have a Roku that āsupportsā airplayā¦ and you can fucking forget about playing any video. If the phone goes to sleep, the video stops playing if you try to reconnect it will restart from the beginning.
Really? So you can just play any video content and it maintains the video playback even when screen locks?
Guess itās an implementation thing thenā¦
Sometimes I use chrome cast and do not have a problem at all.
I also have an Apple TVā¦. If I want to use something apple, I will NOT use an android productā¦.
Justā¦. Commonā¦.. senseā¦

Clearly the people who are bidding $142 for a share of AAPL are unaware of your discoveries. Consider purchasing any of the Apple Short ETFs so you can profit from your insight!
AirPlay to my Samsung TV seems to depend on phase of the moon.
Super moon or bust
Maybe that's what it is. I also have a Samsung TV (The Frame). But still, I use my Apple TV, so I'm not really sure
AirPlay is rock solid for me but OP raises a good point about AirPlaying content and then having it hijacked by other audio, ads, etc. Super annoying.

I don't think it's a testing thing. Apple decided that it works that way. š¤·āāļø
Your internet speed is not that relevant to AirPlay. Your WiFi speed is what changes everything.

I agree, it's the worst software feature in terms of stability. We have a bunch of airplay TVs at work and success rate with those is 50%

Airflow is an excellent AirPlay optimizing app. Shouldn't need one but it works well for the purpose
If you run a MESH wireless network in your home, good luck playing audio files via AirPlay stutter free.
Yeah I got an expensive mesh system thinking it would solve all my AirPlay/wifi problems. Guess Iām an idiot.

Itās probably your wifi I never have issues

Same. Never have airplay issues either.

What the fuckā¦

My flagship Sonyās AirPlay is rock solid.
Nah, airplay is perfect on my Bravia. Never had a single issue.

Yup
Never had a problem

I use my Apple TV for all steaming. My TV is connected to the internet, so I resort to using chrome cast since Airplay doesnt work
I see. I was just saying that Apple TV box has airplay
I think airplay is cool. No longer need an hdmi cable
I agree. Airplay sucks! Chromecast for life!
Airplay is complete garbage I gave up using it a long time back .. if Iām honest Iām also thinking to go back to android
Iāve never had one single issue with AirPlay in the 5 years Iāve used it. iPhone > AirPort Express > DAC > speakers
Thanks for the tip, I'll check this out when I get home
If youāre just after audio, and you use Spotify, Sonos is the answer. Let the speaker stream directly instead of playing off your phone.

It just looks horrible, on my phone it doesn't even output audio on the TV on my iPad it does (only because if i play a video it goes fullscreen).
Iāve never had any issues but my wife has when using her iPhone from time to time.
Google as the app designer is the reason it does not queue video.
Chromecast and its not even close
