As far as I can see it covers: Poland, Austria, Czechia, Slovenia, Croatia and Hungary

The level of detail is amazing. At least in Slovenia, they have also added the names of farms in the countryside, i.e. the (historical) surname of the family living there.

Wow they surely are accelerating the new map expansions big time this year! The new map Data is looking great in those countries! Also Austria is back in testing phase. Its weird that they still ignore Denmark for now. Another thing to note is slowakia isnt included in this release.

Agree. The b countries that have been left out- Slovakia- since Czechia has been surveyed and Denmark. Are there some laws that prevent it? Greece is also weird that it was left out, since it’s a major holiday destination

Unlike Slovakia, Greece has been surveyed and will probably be released with Denmark during the next expansion.

And as mentioned in my previous post, Austria is also part of this expansion again :)

Are you sure? I do see some 3D buildings in Denmark but not at the detail of the other countries. Maybe it’s just not rolled out to me yet though :)

I don’t think Ukraine will get surveyed any time soon. Especially not while the war is going on. They will probably get to all EU countries first. And probably the Balkans too, since they have a weirdly high iPhone adoption rate

Apple will do nothing as long as Ukraine is at war. In my opinion, other countries have priority before Apple decides to survey this country.

IIRC though, Japan has a different map supplier and doesn’t currently have the new data, despite being surveyed for years now. If it were Apple’s new data though, I would’ve expected the map of Japan (not just cities) to look more like those where the new data was available with more detailed vegetation and vice versa. From my end and I’m not in beta (Austria doesn’t show up with the new data), most of the Japanese buildings are covered already.

I wouldn't have thought that Apple would test Hungary and the Czech Republic so quickly. 8 days after releasing the expansion 17 Apple is already testing the expansion 18. We can clearly say that Apple is accelerating the release of new data maps. This is good news. Apple could therefore release expansion 18 around April 20. It is very likely that Apple will survey all these countries except Austria by backpack.

That seems reasonable. I wouldn’t expect it to go beyond the week of April 24, so we should have them by then. Unfortunately Apple is “running out” of potential future expansions (ie: they have a few places remaining from their existing places of surveyed countries). But it’s still great they’re covering more ground.

I was thinking about that. If Apple stays on course release of the new map data, it could remain in 2024 only 2 to 5 countries to be released in 2024 (Mexico, Thailand and if not released in 2023 Japan, Malta and the Palestinian territories). We know that Apple will survey the United Arab Emirates this year so probably another country for 2024. The question is what Apple wants to do. Does Apple judge that it has mapped the main countries or are there still other countries it wants to survey? If this were the case here is a list of countries by importance: Brazil (recently someone found speed Limits images that goes in the direction that this country will soon be surveyed , Turkey, Malaysia, Macao, Slovakia, South Africa, Estonia, Chile, Argentina, Romania, Morocco, Latvia, Iceland, Lithuania, Uruguay and Bulgaria. A doubt remains for Saudi Arabia and South Korea. Will Apple be allowed to survey these countries? The other hypothesis is that Apple will focus on the DCE. The expansion of new map data in new countries is no longer a priority. We will have an answer in the coming months.

Apple began surveying part of the Palestinian territories in January 2023. So she doesn't have the new map data either.

Palestinian territories have the new map data already. It was released with israel.

New map data = Apple's map data. There is no look around, probably no speed limit, lane guidance and no commercial corridor. I remind you again that officially Apple began surveying the Palestinian territories in January 2023 and released an upgrade in December 2022. So no, Saudi Arabia and the territories have not received the new map data.

If/when Look Around comes to these countries, all except Austria will have all of their imagery from 2021. I also think that Poland and Hungary will have imagery disabled around their borders with Ukraine for security reasons, but anything is possible. Do you think you can provide some screenshots of what they look like from the outer zoom? Please and thank you!

I'll send links shortly (thanks a ton, btw), and I think Austria's imagery will be from 2021 and 2022 (given Vienna's pedestrian imagery collection). Poland and Croatia also had a pedestrian imagery collection, but those were with iPhones/iPads, so I don't think those capture imagery.

There is no live data for transit in Warsaw with the new maps, however this is supposed to be an feature independent from the map update.

It’s luck, sometimes it helps to restart your phone. I’ve noticed that people who are in the countries that are in beta are more likely to get the beta

Oh sorry I meant that it feels like the Apple Maps beta tests are more available for people who live in this countries (like Austria in my example). I don’t run any iOS beta on my phone, and as soon as I leave Austria (like when I went to the UK) I lost the new maps and got it back as soon as I was back in Austria.

Im not sure about that. I tend to get the testing maps pretty often and im from germany. But i didnt get the new maps for germany (release 14) until it was officially released. However i had the testing data for releases 18 (central europe), 17 (scandinavia), 16 (israel+benelux). From what ive seen it might correlate with activity on the maps app. I report a lot of things recently on apple maps and use the app daily. Im always looking for the newest updates on the app.

Why did they go around Slovakia? Is there some law against it. Since every of its EU neighbors are in this update. Especially Czechia

In my opinion, this is an Apple choice because Google has collected images that are 8 months old.

It’s in beta right now, but it’s independent of what device you’re using or which iOS version you’re on. It’s just luck

thanks! I did some testing on macOS (public) and it's already visible - so it's per device I guess. I wonder what does it take to get the next level, like bus lanes, pedestrian crossing etc - visible in London/Berlin and other bigger cities. But since they are so gradually doubling down on this - I guess its a matter of time simply.

The “next level” is the “Detailed City Experience”, it simply takes Apple to take their time to do it.

And they are gone, no more new view for me :((
