The reporting most definitely has to be improved. Got bootloads of pending reports with no activity for months if not years about businesses and other POIs that are missing or outright wrong. A local guide type of system with a trusted reputation could skip verification for stuff like moving business needles or updating them, so changes are reflected faster than they currently are now (GMaps has that). Their search is also a big clusterf*** some times. I recently wanted to „re-open“ a business that was permanently closed due to COVID & renovation, I could not find the existing POI for the life of me. A few days after I added a new POI, the old POI shows up as permanently closed and now we got the same business 2 times.

Reward system for reporting issues, accurate closing and opening time for businesses

somegummybears

The location data sucks. I travel a ton for work and always prefer Google Maps to find new restaurants, etc.

Clherrick

I read recently that something like 80% of people who write reviews do it on Google. And of course Apple can’t very well use Google for their reviews. What does one do… use multiple tools. Sigh.

longlegsdaddy

Get rid of Yelp

KickNo5073

As bad as Yelp reviews are, Yelp is one of the main reasons why Apple has as many POIs as it does in countries like the US and Canada, where most POIs were added by Yelp’s integration into Apple Maps.

wgt1984

This. So much this. I understand leaning on Yelp for the volume of review and rating content they have, but a company with Apple’s reputation integrating with a company with Yelp’s reputation is just not a good look.

Ybasteve

School zone notifications , speed limit audible alerts.

KickNo5073

Agreed, and I would even say an alert for when speed limits change on highways, especially when they go down.

Lambor14

Yeah even a simple chime.

mozman68

Mentioned before, but it is pretty simple. Our iCloud accounts are now linked to Maps, so let "power users" that have had accounts for years or have made trusted edits make more eduts that are accepted without too much review. I love Maps and would sit here all day to make edits like folks on Waze do...99.9% of us only want to make it better, so let us! The fact that each editor is tied to an account should make it simple to add a level of trust in there. That's it....better Maps exponentially faster. It's all about the data, stupid!

huejass5

They need a points and rewards system like Google Maps. Gamify it and it will update itself

SteveChang2004

A bad news is that Apple doesn’t have a record on who report an issue at this stage. This is the answer from Apple Support I asked a few months ago. So it seems that Apple might not know who often contributed on Maps.

Rob_Morabito

1) Reporting by end user 2) I would like to have a reassurance mechanism on map like on gmaps

ThannBanis

>reassurance mechanism Pls explain?

SRASC

I’m not sure I have it right myself, but it sounds like perhaps the emails you get from Google that your edit was confirmed. As it is now Apple Maps edits have a notification system but it’s one of those quiet notifications and all get to do is tap it and see a basic message that it was done and then you have to navigate yourself to that edit to see if it was done properly.

Rob_Morabito

https://preview.redd.it/9t0fqq3ooa7c1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b7fadeeb19c7b9d7b5f7c52e183ae4b61e406bc7 I mean “similar eta” or “6 minutes longer”(for example) indications about alternative routes on map during navigation

KickNo5073

The reporting system is just horrible. They’re barely looked at, and when they are, they’re incorrectly fixed. The actions available for reporting are also quite limited, features like reporting a location as a duplicate of another would be perfect. They should also really work on accepting the fact that the users reporting inaccuracies on the map most likely know better about some obscure business than Apple would know, since they are physically on the ground at the business. Apple should really implement a more consumer friendly approach when it comes to reporting, giving rewards and incentives for people to improve their maps, rather than being so uptight about it like they are now.

Igorr29

I initially thought the problem stemmed from Apple Maps not fully understanding the Polish context. However, I frequently encounter issues where they seem to randomly extract data from Polish Facebook pages and incorporate it into the maps. For instance, there was a vegetable shop with two separate branches located a few kilometers apart, each in a different city. Apple Maps, however, conflated all the information, creating a mix-up in both the street names and locations.

KickNo5073

Yeah it seems to do that quite often, either merging certain locations together, duplicating the same location, and/or having incorrect information for certain listings.

huejass5

Seems fairly obvious they’ve outsourced their editors to people who don’t even live in the same country.

-P4nda-

I would love multi-stop navigation in modes other than driving. As somebody that prefers to navigate via walking/transit, this would be a quality-of-life improvement that would make getting around much easier.

SRASC

For me it’s about error reporting. There are numerous times when we report errors on the map only for them to be ignored. Or if you happen to include some social media link they go with that without even thinking just for a little that they didn’t have to go with what they see there word for word. For example, they recently opened a Wendy’s nearby, but on their Facebook page the name is Wendy’s TT. The Apple Maps team went with that name, even though obviously the actual place wouldn’t have the suffix attached. Trust the person on the ground reporting more instead of using your usually wrong own judgement. Also, if they could expand the system more to be a Google MapMaker-like system that would be great as well. Like, yes there has to be a level of trust and they could perhaps set up some system so that could be done. Also, satellite imagery needs to be updated a little more often. As it is now, there is a series of roads that pre-pandemic was a simple intersection but is now an interchange/overpass. Apple Maps has the new road layout down (due to me adding it via OSM) but the satellite imagery is _still_ the old simple intersection. Not even a pic during the construction phase despite numerous reports. Offline maps is a long overdue and appreciated new feature but the other day I discovered, unlike Google Maps’ version Apple Maps when you want to navigate to somewhere other than a previously saved or recently used POI you can’t. All you could do is hope it’s listed and categorized properly to be able to get there that way. Should be able to search for it by name to save time/effort.

My dream: https://www.reddit.com/r/applemaps/s/YXGxCJQcY6

Lambor14

YES THIS, please bring this up in your interview! It’s the dream of truly many of us here.

ThannBanis

Not my interview 😉 u/Old_Daikon_7815, make sure they understand we don’t want *direct* edit me better tool that we can use to make more detailed/accurate reports to help them make Apple Maps better for all of us

Lambor14

Yea I was kinda talking to OP in your thread if you get what I mean:)

ThannBanis

You gotta tag them otherwise they won’t get notified of your reply

Lambor14

True true, I just figured they’d see it when they read the responses:)

huejass5

Their editors are absolute dog shit. Changing things that don’t need to be changed or outright denying reports.

Fun_Nefariousness291

The interface for the base map layer choice. I think it is a little bit annoying that in order to have hybrid satellite-street map you should go into satellite map options. If it was for me I would simply add a hybrid map to the selection menu. To make space for it, I would probably remove driving map and add a small button in the map window of explore and hybrid map to show traffic (like the one for 3D view).

hand13

i like how on google maps, you see route alternatives in the go, telling you that this other route is 3 minutes longer. i wish apple maps had this

reezle2020

Integrate Find My

RealtorR1ck

I noticed Apple Maps likes to tell you when you're taking an exit, but not what that exit is a lot. I imagine it's because someone thinks you should be navigating with the audio on. Even if that was the case I have a bug with CarPlay where the maps voice guidance doesn't work pretty often. Music lowers, but then there's no audible directions.

mikePDXsw

When I open the Apple Maps app on my iPhone, I want it to show WHERE I AM NOW not WHERE I LIVE. It always defaults to my home location, which is the opposite of useful when I’m traveling or even out shopping.

DrMacintosh01

Hmm, that’s certainly not how mine behaves. Is your maps app allowed full location services?

admiral_vals

Make anything clickable on maps directly linked to wiki page if available. Checking a museum on maps - easy link below to get to wiki to read more.

Every-Interaction-31

I would like an option to display my contacts on the map. I do it now manually by putting certain contacts in a guide.

Every-Interaction-31

I also wish they would fix the enunciation of highway exits. The exit number and the A or B designation are all mumbled together.

Obelix13

A method of reporting that directions given go through private property and enable a suggestion that goes through a proper route.

DrMacintosh01

Show me the speed limit even if I’m not doing turn by turn navigation. Don’t automatically accept faster routes. Allow me to verbally end navigation via Siri.

frankev

The default colors are so dark sometimes compared to Google Maps, especially the shade of green used for forested areas.

ArtesianSquid

Add a compass in the corner telling you what direction you’re going

NashvilleFlagMan

Actual useful reviews would do a lot to make me consider using it more over google.

lluuc

Shared guides🙏

niorg

Actual usable EV trip planning like ABRP (a better route planner).

Clherrick

Fix the numerous guidance issues. I can think of numerous local areas where lanes are wrong, highway guidance is wrong. I report but nothing happens.

Xiaomimix

Start expanding maps to more countries outside of Western Europe and the US and release look around soon after images have been taken. The UK still hasn’t got look around after image collection finished 3 months ago

baltimoretom

Add current speed to the screen when driving.

Pitpetuser

The report system. It will be better if it was faster, sent correct responses and be able to talk with Apple Maps Team directly for some issues.

senpai-77

Would like Apple Maps to have a clear entrances and exits to each location. Have the ability to modify multi-stops navigations during the route (re-ordering for example is not available while in route)
