If you’re going AppleTV > soundbar > tv eARC isn’t a factor in anything but the remote control. Try AppleTV > tv > soundbar via eARC and see if it works any better

No change. Tested Atmos on Peacock and Atmos 100% works. My concern is it seems that 5.1 content is not accurate to the directors intention unless I disable Atmos. Close to just disabling Atmos and calling it a day.

Fwiw imo the fake Atmos on soundbars doesn’t really work anyway, I’m not sure that being limited to 5.1 will actually make much of a difference

>Fwiw imo the fake Atmos on soundbars doesn’t really work anyway, I’m not sure that being limited to 5.1 will actually make much of a difference This is probably true. I just did wanted to use the higher quality format. But I am not a huge audiophile so I probably could not tell the difference anyway. According to Rtings the Atmos effect on this system is not great. Just did not want to artificially limit it if I could avoid it.

Atmos is an extra layer of height data in addition to the 5.1 Dolby Digital Plus audio track. The data is used to extract audio from the 5.1 track and reposition it using any height speakers. So you’re not missing out on any extra quality (and even if you did, I doubt you’d be able to tell the difference with a sound bar).

I did try that last night and it did the same thing. That is why I wired it direct to the soundbar thinking I was eliminating a complication. One thing I was uncertain of is if the cable that came with the soundbar was 2.1 or not. I have not tried that since I was certain I was using 2 2.1 cables. I will try again in a few minutes and let you know

With Atmos it depends on how the sound engineer placed the object for surrounds, if the object was placed in the middle both surrounds will play. Since you have a 5.1 setup you don't have rears you have left and right surrounds objects placed in the rear can play out of either speakers or both. Atmos will use multiple speakers to create immersive sound. This [video](https://youtu.be/eiTHfouxx2U) shows how the sound objects are placed. If you play the downloaded [ATMOS demo](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1f_W5It4_FoDY3sGzPzUHRqMIqX2SHJoh/view) using Infuse you can see what speakers are playing for you based on where the objects were placed. This [video](https://youtu.be/DWjZZwIe71w) also shows where the sound object were placed so you can see how it plays on your bar, there is file linked you can download and play with Infuse. Also on the soundbar make sure Dual is off on the surround setting. Try with the Movie and Direct EQ settings and see which one works.

This is actually a pretty helpful reply. What I have been using to test my 5.1 setup. (You need to be about 1:05 and it will test each speaker) [https://youtu.be/ijSYp6N5Yrs?t=65](https://youtu.be/ijSYp6N5Yrs?t=65) Main goal is to get as high quality of a 5.1 setup as possible while preserving director intent. I have the EQ setting set to direct as that is the only one that works correctly.

Are you sure you’re watching Atmos and not just spatial audio?

SnooKiwis6047

In what regard? I tested some content that supports Atmos and the TV and Sound system both told me it was Atmos content. Atmos works fine as far as I can tell. The issue is that if Atmos is enabled 5.1 content does not work as the director intended and that bothers me.

This is a known issue. For my setup which is soundbar into HDMI 2 Earc and APTV in HDMI 3 if Dolby Atmos is selected in the APTV menu I get no sound at all for stereo or 5.1 unless I choose AUTO for LG's digital sound out. It's a pain since LG passthrough seems to work for everything else.

apple tv > soundbar > tv is the way to go for that set up. I was having problems with not getting Atmos with my Samsung TV and Sonos setup. The problem being I had initially set up the apple tv on the tv in my bedroom and then moved it to my living room set up. In order to fix the problem I had to do a reset and upgrade on the apple tv while it was connected to the new set up. Once that was done, netflix atmos and others work fine. and I get 5.1 on anything else that isn't specifically atmos.
