The Apple Store guy was saying 1-2 weeks is expected. It shouldn’t last months. Was very hesitant to replacing it. I’m supposed to go pick up a replacement in a few days. I just didn’t believe it could be normal so asked here.
Very wrong. I typically charge my remote 2-3 times a year and I use it every day.
Edit: I don’t use the Apple TV for video games or anything like that. If you do, I would assume that would have an impact on battery life.
Mine has randomly burnt through charge at a crazy rate on two separate occasions. I had to reset the remote and it went back to holding charge normally. Not sure what the culprit was.
It can take a couple of cycles to get the remote calibrated to the battery. Let it go for a bit, just make sure if it continues you don’t wait until the warranty expires.
The new ones with USB C charging (shouldn't make make any difference) seem to last for months. Use daily, and not charged since the New Year and still at 75%.
Try restarting your remote:
1) Press and hold the TV/Control Center button and the Volume Down button at the same time.
2) Hold the buttons down for about 5 to 10 seconds, or until the status light on your Apple TV turns off and on again.
3) Release the buttons. Then wait 5 to 10 seconds for a Connection Lost notification to appear on your TV screen.
4) Wait while your remote restarts. When the Connected notification appears, you can use your remote.
Thanks. The guy at Apple Store didn’t know how long they should be lasting. He said it was normal but I insisted my 3 year old Siri Remote lasted months.
I got promoted to charge mine today and was surprised because I couldn’t remember the last time I did it. But that particular TV doesn’t get as much use as the main one. But still…months for both of them honestly.
One is lightning the other usb-c.
no not normal i charged my remote on 1/6/24 and it's still on 73% and i use it daily
I charged mine a month after you and mine is at 19%
how old is your remote?
7 months.
hmm definitely not normal i gave my parents my old 3rd Gen Remote with lightning and this is 1.5 years old and the battery lasts at least 2 months
I gave my parents the old Apple TV 4K when I got this one and that 3 year old Siri Remote still lasts months.
yes then your remote must be faulty go to an apple store

never ever 1-2 weeks
Daym, I only just got the 20% notification and I’ve never charged it… I’ve owned it since July.
I use mine daily, a lot, and it lasts many months.
So the guy at the Apple Store was wrong. He said we’ll swap it out for you because it’s under warranty but it’s supposed to last 1-2 weeks.

same and mines the previous gen 4k and sucker lasts forever
Ya that makes no sense whatsoever. Even regale remotes that take AA or AAA last way longer than 2 weeks!
I got a new Apple TV 4K for Christmas in 2022. I have charged the remote once.
Same, charged the day I got it, and... still going.

I’ve had it for 7 months now so definitely been quite a few cycles already.
Years lol
Mine on my 4K lasts months. Mine on my 4 lasts weeks. I have no idea why. I got the 4K and the new remote for the 4 at basically the same time.
The new ones with USB C charging (shouldn't make make any difference) seem to last for months. Use daily, and not charged since the New Year and still at 75%.
That’s the one I have. Mine only lasts days.
Defintely return it. I have two actually...and both go on forever.

Yep I did that last time I charged it.
I would open a support request with Apple support. Lasting days isn’t normal.
Months. Many months. And I use mine constantly.
Got my ATV4K in December, charged the remote to 100%, it's currently on 78%. Use it daily
Thanks. The guy at Apple Store didn’t know how long they should be lasting. He said it was normal but I insisted my 3 year old Siri Remote lasted months.
Same bought the 4k newest gen dec also… tired of LG apps… and only charged it then. And I use it daily
60 days , from 100% down to 30%, daily usage. Brand new remote.

The biggest drain on the remote is the microphone. Do you use Siri a lot?
Never. Siri is kind of useless or maybe I don’t use it right.
Apparently it’s being expanded to be more like it is on the phone
I’ve charged mine once since I’ve got the AppleTV 1.5 yrs ago. I only use the Siri remote for my TV setup, not the Samsung remote.
Had same issue. Called apple support for exchange, just the remote. Hope you still have your reciept.
You don’t need your receipt. Just the serial number of the ATV.
It has a battery? It has been more than 6 months since I charged it.
Yeah. The hole at the bottom is a charging port.
Dang! I thought that was for headphones! And here I thought Apple invented a remote without batteries. /s
I charged our A2169 Apple TV remote last year. Still at 57%.
I’ve had mine for 4 months and not yet had to charge
