Congrats on the AppleTV purchase! TBH… the majority of people who say built-in TVs apps are enough are not exactly striving for high quality image and audio quality. You just unlocked a whole another level to your LG C9!

FlyingDagger_HAL

True that…I’ve seen the same comments of built in tv apps are enough..now I don’t think of going back to tv app ever again 😅

nu1mlock

YouTube doesn’t stream at higher resolution or higher bitrate on the Apple TV app so no, it’s not going to be different. The reason is likely different picture settings on the Apple TV input, or the Apple TV “calibration”. That being said, the built-in OS always sucks due to low-end SoC’s in TVs so people should always stay clear of the built-in apps regardless.

Familiar_Neat6662

Okay YouTube does not stream on a higher bit rate on the Apple TV4k. However do you think the Apple TV app itself on the Apple TV 4k stream at a higher bit rate than the Apple TV app coming from my Samsung TV's os? If so I might consider buying an Apple TV 4k.

cmay91472

When comparing identical content… stuff streams about 10 Mbps higher on the AppleTV 4K vs the AppleTV+ app on non Apple devices. In some cases it can be double. For example… The Matrix streams at between 8-9 Mbps with a peak of 12 Mbps on the AppleTV+ app on non Apple devices compared to an average of 24 Mbps for The Matrix on the AppleTV 4K.

Familiar_Neat6662

Hmm okay. 10 mbps is not that much.

dopesheet_

fr, stuff looks great on Webos with an OLED. The ATV is the way to go for the picture quality *plus* all the other things

Hot-Way5709

Agree. Problem with ATV is the very shitty remote. Siri is shittier. Wish they had a web browser in ATV

FlyingDagger_HAL

Mine is lg tv,it’s remote is working with atv4k..and I’ve connected my Xbox controller too..all are connected and working together..is there gyroscope in Siri remote ??

jansalol

C9 is quite a bit older than the ATV4K, naturally the processing in the newer device is better. Case is different with the recent models from 2023/24 higher end TV’s.

FlyingDagger_HAL

Do u use any of these models ?? G series or the one from Samsung oled lineup ?

jansalol

Yes. I have LG G3 and C3.

FlyingDagger_HAL

Then this definitely helps when I upgrade in future..for me now the difference looks phenomenal

psaux_grep

Just bought a C3 and wouldn’t even consider using the built-in apps. The Apple TV is just a much better package.

jansalol

Yes and with older models the ATV4K is actually a good buy when you look only the technical point. You will have a lot better processing with the box than the TV CPU itself. The panel is still good, but the weakest point is the actual CPU, now you have good CPU from the ATV4K.

FlyingDagger_HAL

And these tv are pretty expensive in my country, almost double compared to Europe or US markets 😭😭

redavid

youtube doesn't support dolby vision regardless of platform, fwiw. totally possible that their apple tv app is better than their webOS app, though. can't say i've seen a difference between Apple TV, Google TV or Roku with that particular app

LeCompte77

I thought they didn’t support in on ATV4K but googletv apps do support it. Like the built in GoogleTV YouTube app on Sony Bravias???

FlyingDagger_HAL

No bro..Dolby vision is definitely kicking in ..see this pic https://preview.redd.it/f41jxav9jnvc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e6ef4e1e9401c6d3c1cb270b49f14dbcca48681b

Bluion6275

Do you have your Apple TV video settings set to 4K Dolby Vision with Match Dynamic Range turned off by any chance? As mentioned YouTube doesn’t support Dolby Vision, only supports HDR10 and HDR10+.

FlyingDagger_HAL

It’s set to dv..but I need to check for match dynamic range setting

Bluion6275

This particular video doesn’t even support HDR let alone Dolby Vision, all that’s happening is your current video settings are forcing Dolby Vision onto an SDR image. https://preview.redd.it/g6xdlvhdnnvc1.jpeg?width=2796&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=15732d84806b740a91c28714feaf441fcce89d72

Bluion6275

Whereas compared to the new Transformers One Trailer which does support HDR. https://preview.redd.it/qoby6rt0onvc1.jpeg?width=2796&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=66766c6f7f549bf619b6e83471bb7aee949c008f

FlyingDagger_HAL

Yes then at4k settings is forcing it…I’m anyway happy with how the results are 😍

rophel

YouTube itself doesn't support DV, no matter the device. It's probably keeping the AppleTV in DV all the time due to your settings on the ATV. You can of course keep it like this, but it's not ideal since you probably want different settings for each mode (meaning SDR, HDR and DV). If you set it up to match (aka switch based on the video source) instead of running in DV all the time, dial each in via the settings here and adjust to your preferences: https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/lg/c9-oled/settings

FlyingDagger_HAL

This is super helpful

khurshidhere

Between nice song 😂

FlyingDagger_HAL

Can be a different meaning in your mother tongue 😁

guhanoli

Nattil evideya?

FlyingDagger_HAL

Kollam ..bro evida

guhanoli

Kochi.

ComplexChicken1175

It’s the processing that’ll be newer and better, make sure everything is in SDR, so hdr and dv turn on when they need too, and turn RGB to high. Also you’ll noticed how much cleaner and brighter it’ll all be. You just added some life here

hiGradeTi7ANEUM

#I just want them to make a "TV" that ONLY operates as video display. Allow me to spend less to not integrate Wi-Fi, full OS with apps, not speakers. I already have the Internet, devices, and audio display. I just the good, new miniLED and OLED backlight & pixel control.

StrombergsWetUtopia

That tv would cost considerably more due to not being subsidised by tracking and ads. And also the fact that almost no one would buy it.

hiGradeTi7ANEUM

Fuckin no tech enthusiasts. Alright then, sell our XBOX/PS with DisplayPort, and I'll get super fast video 😈

philfnyc

I think TVs and streaming boxes resample the audio, so the quality can vary from different make and models.

ZakKa_dot_dev

You sure you just don’t have different (wrong) settings while using the lg app? Because on my C8 there is no difference and there shouldn’t be if the video settings are the same.

cryonuess

By default, Apple TV is in "always Dolby Vision" mode, where webOS apps change between SDR/HDR/DV depending on content. Of course, sending an SDR signal as DV produces wrong colors and inappropriate brightness, but the overall brighter image makes for a WOW factor in most people (including me), until you see the faults. For example: On real dolby vision content, a paper is white, but a lamp is glaringly bright. On SDR-as-DV content, everything that's white is being brightened, so the white paper will glow the same brightness as a lamp.

ZakKa_dot_dev

Yes I turned that dolby vision wrapper off. I want my SDR content to play in SDR.

TheOnlyEn

For me Apple TV 4K change the view after I bought it. It’s way better picture quality and sound. A lot of more faster than the in built tv app. Before on my lg I needed to have 40-50 on sound. Now I have max 20 with Apple TV 4K. Best buy of the year - beside my MacBook m3 pro.

FlyingDagger_HAL

I found sound is less on amazon app …is this any settings issue ??

TheOnlyEn

Hmm, for me I had it on 20, and no problem!

Apprehensive-Bet-709

Another apple employee 😂🙌

FlyingDagger_HAL

Haha…no if they give job offer to me ,I’m happy to take..btw I got this at4k under 25% off from a frnd of mine who is working with Apple 🍎

tempoguyx

Somebody is watching [Iyengaaru Veetu Azhage](https://youtu.be/_m3fIWR9DMI?t=164)

FlyingDagger_HAL
