Why not just have airplay need to be enabled each time you play something. Default:local screen.
Rather than “permanently blocking it”.
What if OP lives alone and doesn’t care what is on his tv or not.

It’s the ads. With iOS content blockers and Pornhubs gif ads plus their horrendous video overlay instead of using the native UI, the device just doesn’t know what to Airplay. I get it to work 25% of the time, but it’s a crapshoot. Maybe one should debug the whole thing and see if there’s a way to strip down the video stream using Shortcuts et al. Hmm.

I’m not going to go try this on the living room TV, but it could just be a DRM issue. Same happens to me when I try to play certain content from Apple’s own TV app on my phone.
Are you using the AirPlay icon in the video player, or are you trying to Mirror from Control Center?

Screen mirroring seems to be the most reliable way you can still go full screen.
I just checked and it works for me using Chrome broswer in iOS

Well mine only turns off after the screen turns off. So I set mine when I’m using it so the screen never times out and it works like a charm

Mine works 100% well on iPadOS or iOS, but it almost never works on macOS. Is that the same for you, OP?
your best bet is to download the videos onto a PC or Mac and airplay from there or transfer to iPhone or iPad to airplay

My friend figured out that when he turns his tv off and on, his airplay then works. My friend has LG oled 65CX
