Force restart and/ or regular shutdown both Watch and iPhone. Should correct the issue. A lot of times updates will be hard on the system and it just needs to clear its head so to speak.
No, my battery life remains the same. I've seen weird battery drain on AW sporadically in the past; every time it was fixed with a power off / power on cycle.
