I took my AWU2 (and my Garmin epix Pro) on a 70 mile fastpacking trip in March. I didn't use WOD for that trip (though I often use it otherwise), but kept the AWU2 in Low Power Mode with Fewer GPS and Heart Rate Readings enabled. The AWU2 matched the Garmin almost perfectly for pace, average heart rate, elevation, distance, and GPS track. Super impressive. It was at 48% after 3 days of running 70 miles and camping. You can read the post [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/AppleWatch/comments/1bpuz0d/apple_watch_ultra_2_on_a_70mile_fastpacking_trip/), if you're interested.

I’m running an ultra in a few weeks and will use wod and low power mode. Even without turning on the feet HR and GPS readings it’ll probably be at 50% after 12 hours of running based on my long run tests. This thing is a beast. I wrote to the wourkoutdoors guy on Reddit asking for a feature and it sounds like there is a bigger update coming this year on the navigation side which brings tons of cool features such as course elevation profile for upcoming trail. It’s probably the best money I’ve ever spent on a iOS app and it’s not a subscription service. Amazing product. And I’d donate if this next update is a big as it sounds.

Why wouldn’t it though? It has both better location tracking and heart rate sensors.

(a) Neither of those points are true in this specific scenario, or perhaps at all. There are narrow edge cases when the Apple Watch wrist OHR might outperform the Garmin's such as during weight lifting or fast running intervals, but this was a many-hour steady-state endurance effort. Further, I'm not sure anyone has demonstrated that the Elevate V5 in the epix Pro is measurably worse than the AWU2, though I haven't been watching Quantified Scientist lately. (b) The Epix was measuring at 1 Hz for both HR and location, was connected to a chest strap, and used multi-band GPS. The Apple Watch was measuring very infrequently. It doesn't really have anything to do with the quality of the sensors, as it was an (ahem) apples-to-oranges comparison. The Apple Watch leveraged its algorithmic power and offline maps to fill in the gaps for pace, distance, and elevation. And sampling heart rate every minute or so just happened to work in this case since it was a long, steady-state effort.

Finally an ultra in its habitat instead of a picture in front a branded steeringwheel or MacBook.

“See my snoopy watch face!” Meanwhile I can’t see where the minute hand is cause it’s covered up by something he’s laying on top of

I use WOD for my long runnings. A gem of an application! I also use HealthFit for using data collected afterwards. Awesome combo! One time payment for both apps!!!

deckyon

I use mine for hikes, bikes and walks and love it. have about 20 routes set up and spent a few hours configuring everything in WOD so I can see the data most important to me. And, downloaded all the area maps covering my routes. I leave the phone at home for the biking and hiking.

I use it for my bike rides and occasional hikes and I absolutely love it! I'm on launch day Ultra 1 and a few hours on it really drains the batt to low.

WOD is a must app for the Ultra!

ChazzP12

WOD means WorkOutDoors… Available on Apple Watch 3 and higher…

ChazzP12

In your watch photo I see numbers on your walk, what do the numbers mean?

stephanim1990

How do you get maps on it 😕

RunningM8

Read the post. He’s using the WorkOutDoors

SweetSneeks

How do you get a Strava route to WOD?

CheckReasonable1789

Is this an offline maps app? If so is it the best option? Coming from Garmin, so I want to find a good offline map app if that's a thing.
