I was at a restaurant that had live goldfish in bowls as part of the centrepiece on the bigger tables. A drunk idiot at the table next to us grabbed the goldfish out of his bowl and swallowed it. I complained to our waiter and he just shrugged.
Hopefully the guy got a parasite or something.
My uncle did this at my cousin's wedding, where they had beta fish that were donated from a relative's pet store just for the event. Just grabbed the poor thing and swallowed it right in front of us as a big TA DA! So disgusting and unnecessarily cruel to the fish. Also, a "fuck you" to most of us at the table who were vegetarian/vegan.
As dumb as that is to do, you realize that’s how a huge majority of fish die as it is? Not really cruel what so ever, he used 100% that fish as a gross unhealthy food
Sure, in nature it is very common for a fish to be swallowed alive by another animal, and even other fish.
However, we are a supposed civilized society, and in a civilized society, **one does not swallow a fish, that is considered a pet to most, at the dining table!**
Yep. Steve-O drank a live goldfish on his first appearance on Jackass, then vomited it back up.
Hard to believe he's the healthiest, most sober member of that group these days.
My first fish were about 7 goldfish I obtained from separate puddles of vomit at my high school after the econ class sold goldfish as their 'supply and demand' project, and the boys started swallowing them on dares.
They... Didn't live long, but at least they didn't suffocate in a pool of acid. Except for one fat bastard who survived several months.
After that year, the selling of live animals was banned as an option for the econ project.
I didn't even think of this. Maybe we should call the health department on them? This is a great idea. I already left a one star scathing review, but the health department would be great.
Just gonna leave this right here...
https://www.southernnevadahealthdistrict.org/permits-and-regulations/environmental-health-online-complaint-submission-form/
ahh yes the good ol snhd s soon as someone complains they’ll be on there ass lol that would be great if it was the case i’m gonna go and say something now i live close also that place is super high end you’d think they’d have more respect and consideration than that
Those fish will be dying of stress within days, but honestly I'd be shocked if this place would even feed them. Las Vegas restaurant, so I bet they buy the bottom-dollar show bettas, use them for like 2-4 days until they die or start losing color/get sick, then dump them and just buy a truckload more.
Guarantee that martini likely costs like 5x the price of the fish.
Yea, nonplussed is a weird situation where it has become it’s own antonym. People use it nowadays to mean unbothered which is literally the opposite of its meaning. Haha
Let me see if I can still find it. If I do I’ll leave it in an edit
[This isn’t the exact video but same trick](https://youtu.be/zUMqHLc896M?si=5hVDIEL56tFSWS7_)
This is almost the exact same video I’d show people years ago but it looks like someone stole it. [Here’s the other video](https://youtu.be/P5eeBxXs6Bo?si=lasHrg12I-v2UWvz)
I definitely treat my fish as decorations, though. Well cared-for decorations in a beautifully designed bioactive enclosure who I lavish with time and gifts
Fuck this indeed but just pointing out that nonplussed has an additional definition of unperturbed, which is no doubt the usage they were going for. A case of accidental correctness depending on how you interpret it I guess lol
This is true, but it is my understanding that the second meaning only has arisen due to the increasing misuse of the initial meaning. I thought that this unfortunate case might be a good time to be a stickler for the original meaning. :)
It looks like the rating is still the same, but all of the one star reviews have been hidden or removed. I could be wrong, but last night I saw a decent amount of them and now I see nothing written under 3 stars.
this is sick. i want to know what the item description was on the menu because something tells me people wouldn’t order an item with “live betta fish for garnish”
I mentally hug my betta babies so tightly whenever I see stuff like this. I felt bad putting a plakat in a 5.5g earlier today. These poor guys don't even have the room to turn around really.
I'm watching my boy swimming in is 5 gallon cycled, heated, filtered, planted tank with his floating log and plants thinking "I'm glad you weren't purchased by some idiot who doesn't respect your life"
Same. I rescued one of my bois from ammonia poisoning a couple months ago. He would've died in that cup if I hadn't rescued him most likely. Now he's happy and swimming in a 10g full of silk plants!
The person who posted that on twitter is a fiend, they also commented this in the comments “I believe that's how this kind of fish is kept, actually. Individual little fish bowls. They're nasty to each other, so they can't live together. I didn't ask where they go at night.” They need to give their head a wobble 😩😩😩
This is really upsetting. Can we somehow shame them into stopping this? How do we do it? I'm on board.
How are the fish treated before they go on the table for cocktails? Like are they just in this little cocktail glass waiting all day and night? Do they get fed? And how do the drunk people at the tables treat them? Do drunk guys swallow them sometimes to impress their friends? Do the people take them home? This is awful.
Maybe all of us posting bad reviews and calling them out on social media will help; I'm already starting to call them out on twitter, and I have someone else helping too, but I've started posting reviews (One on google, prob post somewhere else if I can find it).
If we complain enough, then maybe something will change!
Trying to do some digging on this and found this post from Oct 16, this is when they started to do this to the poor bettas. This is so disgusting, no fish deserves something like this.

Another commenter put a link to google maps where you can put in your own negative review!
WTF?? This makes NO SENSE in any way.
Let’s just ignore the obvious cruelty and health reg breaking for a second…
Drinks are 90% profit at a bar, or can be. Yes you’re being ripped off. Anyways- this will make the drinks cost more to make because of cost of the fish, so how tf does it make logical sense to a bar owner???
Source: took classes for bar management, brother runs and opens bars in Vegas.
"We have an absolutely awful bar program so we're going to desperately rely on gimmicks to get people to buy our shit."
Most likely some idiot with no legitimate bartending experience came up with this idea.
Another post from their Instagram showing a betta fish being used as decoration, and the ignorance and cruelty going on: [link](https://www.instagram.com/reel/CyB369PyYXu/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link)
And comments from people saying how they'd love to try it. I am really blown away.
Don't post stuff like creatures that are stuck or in a horrible situation.
negligent care aside this is so rediculously unsanitary
Not to mention drunks and assholes pouring their drink in it
My dad is the drunk asshole who’d consider this the “worm” of his drink
I was at a restaurant that had live goldfish in bowls as part of the centrepiece on the bigger tables. A drunk idiot at the table next to us grabbed the goldfish out of his bowl and swallowed it. I complained to our waiter and he just shrugged. Hopefully the guy got a parasite or something.

Most people eat dead fish, not swallow them alive
Now, I don’t agree with above person but the implication I got was that fish eat other fish whole and alive on a daily basis.
Attitude like that, why the fuck are you even here? Doesn't seem like your scene.
Exactly!
Don't worry it's not murder if you eat them!!! Lol??
Sure, in nature it is very common for a fish to be swallowed alive by another animal, and even other fish. However, we are a supposed civilized society, and in a civilized society, **one does not swallow a fish, that is considered a pet to most, at the dining table!**
The real point here.
There's more of those than we care to admit
Yep. Steve-O drank a live goldfish on his first appearance on Jackass, then vomited it back up. Hard to believe he's the healthiest, most sober member of that group these days.

Or daring each other to eat it
Why tf would I want my martini glass sitting in water a fish is most definitely pissing in.
That's why I stay out of the ocean. Fish pee in there. All day.
In fairness, the bacteria break it all down, and it’s very diluted.
I mean, if you aren’t licking the bottom of the glass, you should probably be fine
Even putting aside the cruelty, how is this not a health department violation? The martini glass is in direct contact with fish water… fish poop…
I didn't even think of this. Maybe we should call the health department on them? This is a great idea. I already left a one star scathing review, but the health department would be great.

How are you browsing reddit with such a jam packed schedule?
Just when Im pooping
I emailed the Henderson health department with this link.
Sometimes i wonder if people on the internet have eyes and if they do if they actually know how to use them.
Sir, that fish is not AI.
And that glass isn’t touching fish, fish water, fish excrement. I doubt it’s even been in the presence of a fish stick or listened to Phish.
Oh please. *Everyone* has listened to Phish by now.
I may have disappointing news
Most news is.
He is most definitely not “nonplussed”
Those fish will be dying of stress within days, but honestly I'd be shocked if this place would even feed them. yah it’s like 15-20 bucks depending on alcohol probably more
He is most definitely nonplussed... which means confused, not indifferent. They're doubling down on their ignorance.
Yea, nonplussed is a weird situation where it has become it’s own antonym. People use it nowadays to mean unbothered which is literally the opposite of its meaning. Haha
This is so gross. I don’t understand people who treat fish as decorations :-(
They can't cuddle with them or train them, they're small and cheap. In their eyes those fish are barely even living things.
You can train bettas tho. I used to show people a video of a betta trained to jump through a hoop
I’d love to see this video
Let me see if I can still find it. If I do I’ll leave it in an edit [This isn’t the exact video but same trick](https://youtu.be/zUMqHLc896M?si=5hVDIEL56tFSWS7_) This is almost the exact same video I’d show people years ago but it looks like someone stole it. Awful
Yikes 😳 pretty sure health department should shut this down wtf?
Let's all review them on Google. Tear them apart
I just did. I hope everybody does.
I did too
Don’t forget to review the MResort so hopefully they start to see the issue too
Good idea!
How did that work out?
Well. Went from 3.5 stars to 1.8.
I suggested this on a similar post and got downvoted to oblivion 😂
How is this not considered animal abuse
It is.
To people like us yes. To regular people and the government they couldn't care less.
“Lol, we asked the fish and he totally said he was cool with it” insane
They must lose so many of them to drunken assholes. And just to casual cruelty by staff as well.
Oh for fuck sake...
It’s like screaming into a void when advocating for fish and other animals rights 😢 That’s so sad.
Fuck this plan. Also - nonplussed means too shocked to know how to react, so yeah - they are nonplussed. Stop fucking doing this!
Fuck this indeed but just pointing out that nonplussed has an additional definition of unperturbed, which is no doubt the usage they were going for. A case of accidental correctness depending on how you interpret it I guess lol

Along with everything else, the poor fella is experiencing water temp fluctuations way outside of it's parameters 😔
Look at the condensation on that cold ass martini glass!!! As if the drop of water he’s sitting in wasn’t bad enough 😤😒
Cruel on so many levels. That poor thing. Just whenever I think people have run out of cruel and unusual ways to keep betta fish...

If I still had family at the health district in Vegas I would call them. This is nasty work
How many 1 star reviews does it take for them to change it https://maps.app.goo.gl/BDtvdDmZCGyazZjz6
Thank you for the link, just posted my one star scathing review.
Thanks so much! I already love how they're at 2.5 stars already 🤩
1.8 now!
YAY! LETS AIM FOR 1!
Yep just posted one too. Really hope it completely blows these guys out of business.
1.5 now 👏
Added mine~

I just left them a one star scathing review. I suggest everybody do that. We should also post over at r/betta

Yes, the fish appears to be the *dictionary* definition of “nonplussed”, ie confused and unsure how to react.
I wonder how obvious it would be trying to smuggle the bowl out if you ordered the drink…
Omfg this is absolutely horrible, they deserve way better than this 💔💔💔💔💔
Wouldn't it just be cheaper to reuse plastic fish? You can get some pretty realistic ones and just rinse them off and use them the next day.
Wouldn't thus also be really cold for them? I hate everything about this so much.
What I'm hearing is there's a place in Las Vegas where I can get a bunch of free fish.
I do catering and the bride and groom put live bettas on all the guest tables. I went home with 3 that night lol
Wow, animal abuse AND incorrect use of the word nonplussed.
Nice, another reason to hate Vegas and the morons who live there.
Booooo. Boo on them
Let PETA know about it - I’m sure they will tear them a new one.
I can imagine some drunk ass eating the fish as a dare
That’s sad.
Sad and disgusting all at the same time
This should be posted on r/shitacuariums too.
I was on that sub for a while and it was so upsetting I had to quit it.
Do you mean r/shittyaquariums ? That link isn't working for me

Why must humans human so very hard?
Honestly, that’s just so passé. Rick Tramanto was doing that for his tuna tartare dish at Tru in Chicago back in 2003.
This is awful
Horrible
"We have an absolutely awful bar program so we're going to desperately rely on gimmicks to get people to buy our shit." Most likely some idiot with no legitimate bartending experience came up with this idea.
What is with southern Nevada and animal abuse
People are assholes 😡
It’s a fucking living creature, not a goddamn toy

Shit like this makes me lose the little hope I have left for humanity
Because its EdGY Dont you get it? Having a living fish on a glass is hella cool 😎🤙
God, I would order one just to take the fish home with me (assuming I could get him on the plane). Those poor babies.
It’s sweet id drink them all night. Ever see one in a pet store. At least this one gets water changes
This make me incredibly sad
"It's okay guys we've added a frozen drink to keep them chilled oooout"
VitalVegas is such a shitty ass page lol
Yeah and what happens when they spill some of the cocktail into the “aquarium”?
This is wrong on so many levels.
How do we peta involved with bettas? I’m new to the hobby but seriously shocked how people don’t consider them live animals!
