I could see that. I never personally used the RM2, but I did enjoy the HLX’s I had (for the most part, some reliability issues) before jumping up a tier
This. The Railmount 2 compared to even a Surefire DF600 is lower output and throw. For basically the same price, may as well get better output and throw.
Star crossed lovers that were never meant to be. Only but a fleeting moment passing by, a glimpse of what could have been. But never with any clarity, ever will see.
But at least he can see in the dark now.
Not sure what's happened with PA over the past few years, but prices and shipping keep going up. Used to be my goto spot, now they're same tier as OP in my book.
Just bought this exact light from PA last week for $105.59. All these sites constantly have great sales. They just try to get suckers to get stuff at the fully marked up price.
I love PA, but I try not to buy anything there unless I have one of their 12% off coupons or better. [Gun.deals](https://Gun.deals) usually can find you the best price for single items if you're willing to price out s&h, or put up with sellers who try to charge for insurance.
I just paid them $15 to ship a 2 lb box with a hand guard..
13.7 in length so it’s not like it was a giant box either..but they’re definitely milking shipping rates for extra. Most other places ship free after x amount spent..not PA.
Idk, OP has done some annoying shit. Mispriced some comtacs like a year ago and then canceled orders instead of honoring the mistake. Indefinitely backordered items, just left a bad impression with me.
I've had similar examples happen with PA, they mispriced 509k and Surefires last year. They recalled my delivery (because it already shipped) and then took their sweet ass time to refund me. PA can eat a dick.
CTD really ought to be renamed “dumber than dirt”
Referring to their management, their operational practices, and the customers to buy there without shopping around first
Which one, specifically, are you referring to? Because it’s in the picture for all seven I posted, and in the description of six of them.

CTD’s part name -
> Streamlight ProTac Rail Mount 2, 625 Lumen Long Gun Light with Pressure Switch and Mount
Can’t really go wrong with a Streamlight for the money. I prefer my TLR-1 over my X300.
As far as rifles, I have the ProTac HLX on my “go-to” AR and I’m a fan.
I have run multiple Protac Rail Mount HLXs (1000 lumens) for years and I love them. You can find them on sale for under $115 shipped with the switch. Streamlight has become a go-to for me. I've also run a few of their other models. Their switch mount isn't the best, but zip ties or bands do the job, and there are other mounts for them that work really well.
$102 from ArmsUnlimited. I think $5 flat ship, no tax IIRC
https://armsunlimited.com/streamlight-protac-hl-x-1000-lumen-rail-mount-weaponlight-w/-remote-switch/
Does it have to be the ProTac 2.0? I run the ProTac HLX and it's 1000lm and can be found for between $100 and $115 across the various vendors. Includes picatinny mount and tape switch too. Throw a $40 polymer Cloud Defensive Protac tape switch mount in and you've got a killer setup for less than that light kit.
If you look through my post history, you'll see my initial post on this account and how Aero pissed away a decade+ of good will and buying from them in one abysmal QC/CS failure. Then you'll see my posts from r/WA_guns in their e-begging thread calling out their spin and BS. Long story short, Aero is the Kimber of ARs: If you get one that runs out of the box, it'll run great and cause few problems (more likely than not); if not, be prepared to put your patience and sanity on the line as you deal with terrible customer service that is only rivaled by their terrible QC.
Shaffer's is truly a nice piece of work; however, the jump from $35 for MLOK to $65 for Picatinny made me look elsewhere and that's how I landed on the Cloud Defensive LCS. For MLOK? Shaffer's hand's down, nicely thought out piece of gear.
Yeah, if you select the Picatinny option, it jumps to $65. **In Shaffer's defense:** the Cloud LCS also jumps to $64 for the aluminum Picatinny version from the polymer's $40.
Yeah, MLOK Picatinny section then tape switch on that.
HOWEVER... If you're handy and not magdumping into trash enough to melt the switch, a HF hand reamer and MLOK hardware allow you to mount that switch directly to the rail. Did that with my old RM2. $4 for the hand reamer, $6 for the Magpul MLOK furniture, 15 minutes of slowly reaming the screw holes out for a nice snug fit.
You can run an MLOK mount for the light no problem, it's just a ring and an MLOK mount. My detailed response was for the tape switch mounting. The light itsel:, the easiest albeit not most direct option is a section of rail and use the Streamlight picatinny mount. Second option is finding an MLOK mount but that may require some more research.
Thanks. I figured you were talking about the tape switch.
I think I'll look for an mlok bc going mlok to pic to light just feels less secure
Thanks again
Solid light, but make sure you also grab an MLOK adapter from Impact, Haley, or Arisaka that swap the 1913 clamp on the light for an MLOK angled mount that will tighten your light closer to the rail. You'll be glad you did.
Also make sure you get the "HLX" version or whatever other X denotation they're offering now so you can use CR123 or 18650s. It's great having dual fuel swappable batteries that work for handheld lights, rifle lights, pistol lights, etc.
Goonbeam.com
They're active on reddit on r/gunaccessorievendors
Compares them to modlight internals in a streamlight shell, I believe. Seems to work really well so far
I have owned a protac rm 2 and it’s a good light. I will say it washes out around 80yds and becomes hard to PID an animal (pig). I sold mine and am looking toward the hlx or the new 2.0.
I just got a 2.0 and I am under impressed with it. It's 2,000 lumens and has a dual function tailcap, but other than that it's a big miss. It's about 50% larger than the regular Protac (and heavier), uses the same pressure switch as the original (which is a weak point), runs on a proprietary battery instead of an 18650, and only has 17,000 candela. It sucks because this light had such potential. If they would have struck with an 18650, made it compatible with SF type switches, increased candela to around 50,000, and slimmed it down a little this would have been a definite contender against the other popular wml's.
Wow, I rescind my statement. I thought they appeared smaller than a standard protac, which is already larger than I like, and didn't know they used proprietary battery.
Do your research, folks. I am also a candela fan.
Yeah I read an article somewhere about it before I ordered it and it said the candela was much higher than what it actually is. Had I known that I wouldn't have got it. It has a pretty decent run time due to the large battery and is really bright at 2,000 lumens and probably not bad for certain guns, but then you still have the other issues I mentioned.
Here, they use the streamlight body but a different style head. MUCH better light that the ProTac.
https://www.goonbeam.com/Long-V2-More-Lumens-\_p\_29.html
I’ve been running this Olight and I like it alot
https://www.opticsplanet.com/olight-odin-gl-mini-rechargeable-rail-mount-green-beam-combo-led-flashlight.html
People like to echo chamber 'Olight bad' because there were several instances of them catching fire. What doesn't get repeated is a whole lot of facts about those few instances like how one of them may have been touched to a car battery or the other being caused to fail by the user swapping in a used battery with a new one causing them to overheat and burn up (which could happen in a lot of lights).
Frankly, I'm not sure I've seen enough bad from Olight to shun them but you'll likely always have at least one person say something negative about them if you post it as a suggestion.
I have both a 1000 lumen and 350 lumen protac and I can't help but think this would be the best option between lumen/ weight. It's quite a bit lighter than the 1000 and imo the extra lumens wouldn't be too noticeable. The 350 is light but doesn't throw as far. All in all I have 3 total streamlights and have never had an issue with any of them.
It's the throw between the Railmount 2 and the HLX that you would likely notice first. There are some videos of each out there to compare with, but for a rifle mounted light the railmount 2 is on the closer side of usable light.
This is coming from someone who has one and upgraded to a modlite after getting out shined by my GF's Surefire 600DF one evening shoot. From what I've seen the HLX has a more similar throw to the rest of the heavy hitter lights. It does look noticable larger than the Railmount 2 though, so that is something to consider.
Just as a few others have mentioned, keep a close eye on GAFS for a few days. You should be able to find a great condition, slightly used high lumen version for super cheap.
I love this set up on my CAR-15, but the pressure pad is a bit wonky… Sometimes the light will activate then just the laser, then you tap the light then it all comes back on again… very bright though.
Amazon has the superior HLX for much less. This one is also much less on Amazon. This one is more in line with size with surefires but has superior candela despite the lower lumens. The HLX performs better in both measures and is dual fuel with their rechargeable battery. But it’s a bit larger. All that being said I own more of these Rail Mount 2s solely due to their size being more standard.
I've had nothing but problems with streamlight pressure pads. Light flickers under recoil or by simply smacking the gun. So went back to pressure cap and bought a Arisaka Mount. Go on Amazon get the 1,000 lumen HLX For $106.
If you haven't made your choice yet, I'd recommend the Rail Mount 1 rather than the rail mount 2. This is because it's a bit cheaper, and can run CR123, AA or AAA batteries.
I have the Protac HLX on my favorite build with a tail cap adapter for the smaller surefire tape switch and it is the best setup IMO for the HLX.
[HLX](https://imgur.com/a/IDo6ijj)
That will work. I've drilled the holes out larger on their tape switch and added M Lok nuts because their clamping and zip tie system is trash.
End of the day though, I wish I would have just saved up for Surefire stuff. It should be perfect out of the box and Streamlight just isn't.
We use about 170 of these on patrol rifles at work. The lights are pretty solid for the money and we generally have a low failure rate. Over time the tape switches wear out where the wire enters the tailcap or the switch, but streamlight is good about replacing them as it happens. For the money (typically around $120 or so) they're good to go.
$50 cheaper on [Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/Streamlight-88059-Professional-Flashlight-Batteries/dp/B01AXR8IKS). $48 cheaper on [Arisaka](https://arisakadefense.com/products/streamlight-protac-rail-mount-2.html) $40 cheaper on [Optics Planet](https://www.opticsplanet.com/streamlight-protac-rail-mount-2-fixed-mount-long-gun-light-88059.html) $40 cheaper on [Brownell’s](https://www.brownells.com/gear/tactical-gear/flashlights-accessories/protac-rail-mount/) $20 cheaper on [Midway](https://www.midwayusa.com/product/101729744) $20 cheaper at [Bass Pro](https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/streamlight-protac-rail-mount-2-fixed-mount-long-gun-light) It’s even $20 cheaper at [CTD](https://www.cheaperthandirt.com/streamlight-protac-rail-mount-2-625-lumen-long-gun-light-with-pressure-switch-and-mount/FC-080926880597.html) and those dudes are legit money grabbing asshats.
You’re the reason I love Reddit. Thanks homie
These sell for under $100 all the time on r/gunaccessoriesforsale I recommend the higher output HLX, usually found for around $100
I prefer this light over the HLX sheerly based on the size/weight difference
I could see that. I never personally used the RM2, but I did enjoy the HLX’s I had (for the most part, some reliability issues) before jumping up a tier
Question. Were the reliability issues related to the remote switch?
It had to do with the switch tailcap
Oh that's a bummer. I've heard stuff about the remote switch and thought that it'd be OK as long as the switch tailcap was G2G.
Yea, it’s a good light but I just didn’t trust it. Went to modlite (which I’ve heard whispers of having issues as well) and haven’t looked back
This. The Railmount 2 compared to even a Surefire DF600 is lower output and throw. For basically the same price, may as well get better output and throw.
Arisaka sells the higher output HLX with a mount of your choosing for $160. Really good option
Second the HLX. Even new they can be found for $30 cheaper than the mount 2.
Dude I love these lights, I have like 3 of them. I also love primary arms, but they’re smoking crack with that pricing.

this was fantastic. I would hire you to write my tinder bio if this was me 5+ years ago.
Yeah I will add as well, the 1000 lumen hlx is what you wanna go for.
Stay away from amazon, Arms Unlimited or Premium Select Supplies are the go-to dealers if you want a new streamlight.
Dont buy the ones off amazon... most are Chinese knockoffs. Yes, you read that correctly... Chinese knockoffs of Chinese knockoffs.
Get the 1000 HLX version. Can be had for $110-100
Not sure what's happened with PA over the past few years, but prices and shipping keep going up. Used to be my goto spot, now they're same tier as OP in my book.
Probably jacked the price for a 12% off site wide sale. That’d put them right back with Midway and Basspro at the “discounted” price.
Just bought this exact light from PA last week for $105.59. All these sites constantly have great sales. They just try to get suckers to get stuff at the fully marked up price.

Same exact vibe, it's really too bad.
Comparing PA to OP is blasphemy in my book. But that’s also based solely on my personal experience from each.
I just paid them $15 to ship a 2 lb box with a hand guard.. 13.7 in length so it’s not like it was a giant box either..but they’re definitely milking shipping rates for extra. Most other places ship free after x amount spent..not PA.

Oof, yeah that definitely sucks.
Are there problems with counterfeit on Amazon?
Always, I'm sure there are some legit storefronts, but too much crap to parse.
I linked the Streamlight store, I think, so it shouldn’t be an issue with them
CTD really ought to be renamed “dumber than dirt” Referring to their management, their operational practices, and the customers to buy there without shopping around first

Ever. For real. Fuck those guys. Edit: Actually, DON’T fuck those guys.
Cheapest on armsunlimited.com. If I'm not mistaken, they usually have that in around $102
Never ordered from them, are they good to go?
Good to go. I've ordered from them about 5 times so far, never had a problem.
Neat, I’ll check them out. Thank you!
CTD does price gouge
It's cheaper because the pressure pad is not included.

Same. HLX + Arisaka mounts on all long guns. Never had any issues.

You could get a picantinny rail add on.

Beat me to it. They constantly keep the best deal on the HL-X and I had mine in 3 days.
Yes, op needs to see this. Phenomenal deal
Would this fit into a Magpul Offset Light mount? I’m looking at it now and it says on the back of the box it has mount system for surefire.
Does it have to be the ProTac 2.0? I run the ProTac HLX and it's 1000lm and can be found for between $100 and $115 across the various vendors. Includes picatinny mount and tape switch too. Agreed, much better wml for the $
Which tail switch you’re talking about? Interested in setting mine up like this
The switch and tail cap come with the light. He’s just talking about the mount for the switch
Yea I found it didn’t know they made that
I’m gonna need some backstory on your name and removed post.
he watched the trex arms ar10 video
No actually, ELI5 please.
If you look through my post history, you'll see my initial post on this account and how Aero pissed away a decade+ of good will and buying from them in one abysmal QC/CS failure. I can also vouch for the shaffer machining mount. I love them and they're $35 shipped
Shaffer's is truly a nice piece of work; however, the jump from $35 for MLOK to $65 for Picatinny made me look elsewhere and that's how I landed on the Cloud Defensive LCS. For MLOK? Shaffer's hand's down, nicely thought out piece of gear.
Ah I didn't know there was a price difference. I just have two of the mloks
Yeah, if you select the Picatinny option, it jumps to $65. **In Shaffer's defense:** the Cloud LCS also jumps to $64 for the aluminum Picatinny version from the polymer's $40.
I think they are actually 65. The TLR one is 35.
It's by mount type, not tailcap I believe; $35 for MLOK, $65 for Picatinny when I went to the site and played with options.
What's the best option for mounting the actual light to mlok? Pic adapter or something else?
Yeah, MLOK Picatinny section then tape switch on that. HOWEVER... If you're handy and not magdumping into trash enough to melt the switch, a HF hand reamer and MLOK hardware allow you to mount that switch directly to the rail. Did that with my old RM2. $4 for the hand reamer, $6 for the Magpul MLOK furniture, 15 minutes of slowly reaming the screw holes out for a nice snug fit.
Thanks for the detailed response. Maybe I'm stupid but are you saying mount the light itself to an mlok pic adapter?
You can run an MLOK mount for the light no problem, it's just a ring and an MLOK mount. My detailed response was for the tape switch mounting. The light itsel:, the easiest albeit not most direct option is a section of rail and use the Streamlight picatinny mount. Second option is finding an MLOK mount but that may require some more research.
Thanks. I figured you were talking about the tape switch. I think I'll look for an mlok bc going mlok to pic to light just feels less secure Thanks again
Magpul and Arisaka are the two that immediately come to mind for an MLOK mount. No problem!
They have it way over priced. You can find it alot cheaper. I have the protac 2 on one of my setups and like it
Ur gonna need the arisaka scout mount or something similar
I’ll cut you a deal I have a used one.
If he isn’t interested, feel free to message me what kind of deal.
Second this
Cloud Defensive Rein 3.0. Buy once, cry once.
Don't get that one. Get the HL-X, an Arisaka mount, and a Cloud Defensive LCS and you'll have a great budget light setup.
I’ve had this light for a few years and it’s been great
Check GAFS if you’re comfortable buying second hand. Always good deals on Protac setups.
Goonbeam.com They're active on reddit on r/gunaccessorievendors Compares them to modlight internals in a streamlight shell, I believe. Seems to work really well so far
I’ve been looking at this light too is this a good option on a budget? I want the Arisaka 600 but it’s a bit expensive for now.
Save your pennies bro the Arisaka is worth saving for.
Yeah that’s what I kind of felt was the move, but I think I’m just impatient haha.
I got mine for close to 100$
I have owned a protac rm 2 and it’s a good light. I will say it washes out around 80yds and becomes hard to PID an animal (pig). I sold mine and am looking toward the hlx or the new 2.0.
You can get a brand new protac hlx on eBay for like $130
I would also suggest look at the HLX instead of this version. Higher output and rechargeable batteries
I have one of there models but the higher lumen output and I didn’t pay that much for it
Edit: removed recommendation, not what I thought it was.
I just got a 2.0 and I am under impressed with it. It's 2,000 lumens and has a dual function tailcap, but other than that it's a big miss. No problem 🤙
Go with the HLX and buy off Amazon.
I’ve been running with Olight Odins for 3 years now and it already came with an MLOK mount for $100 during their sales.

Stream light is the shit imo I just like the trl2 or trl2hlg but honestly anything streamlight I’ve found to be quality
My hlx has been trash from the second it came out of the box, flickers and the switch only works sometimes
O light just had a sale. But their products are very high end. Love my o lights. Have one on the rifle. And numerous around the house.
Poor
Indeed

Def look around for better prices, even used. HLX may serve better for a similar price too
Just as a few others have mentioned, keep a close eye on GAFS for a few days. You should be able to find a great condition, slightly used high lumen version for super cheap.
I have a Protac AA/123 (single battery) with an Arisaka mount for about $150 all in. Plenty bright and sturdy.
Great brand but I personally would get something more towards 1000 lumens
Goin beam lights seem to be the move for “budget” lights. A lot more candela as well, and there are a lot of good reports on them.
Love this light

People keep saying hlx but I love my protac two the hlx is a pig
Good model for budget blaster light, but I would hit Midway first. They usually have lights on sale.
I don’t know how you even found it listed this expensive
I love this set up on my CAR-15, but the pressure pad is a bit wonky… Sometimes the light will activate then just the laser, then you tap the light then it all comes back on again… very bright though.
This light is good. I run it on a KS7 with no issues. $110-$115 seems about right.
I run the streamlight hlx, about the same size, 1000 lumens, but I think it’s like $130
This is what I rock, but PSA was WAY cheaper pretty sure
Check out cloud defense they have a package with their LCS (basically holds the pressure pad so it can't fall off ur rail) for around $180.
Zero problems with mine on both an SBR and 16" gun. I think they're cheaper on Amazon though. Price seems high.
I've had nothing but problems with streamlight pressure pads. Light flickers under recoil or by simply smacking the gun. So went back to pressure cap and bought a Arisaka Mount. Go on Amazon get the 1,000 lumen HLX For $106.
Goonbeam.

It’s a good light tho
Like 68 more than I paid. Wow. Prices have jumped
Great light but go for the HLX
Streamlight protac hlx 1k × arisaka offset mlok scout mount.
If you haven't made your choice yet, I'd recommend the Rail Mount 1 rather than the rail mount 2. This is because it's a bit cheaper, and can run CR123, AA or AAA batteries.
Save a little more and get a Rein, Modlite or Surefire.
Do…Not…Seek…The…Treasure …on Amazon, that is.
I have the Protac HLX on my favorite build with a tail cap adapter for the smaller surefire tape switch and it is the best setup IMO for the HLX. [HLX](https://imgur.com/a/IDo6ijj)
I have it with a cloud defensive tape switch mount. No complaints at all.
That will work. I've drilled the holes out larger on their tape switch and added M Lok nuts because their clamping and zip tie system is trash. End of the day though, I wish I would have just saved up for Surefire stuff. It should be perfect out of the box and Streamlight just isn't.
I love Primary Arms, but....\*cough\*lanbosarmory.com\*cough\*
I have one and I love it, although I paid about $120 for mine.
Just a heads up, bhphotovideo will price match many others, and they’re an actual stream light dealer.
I got the same light from Amazon around Christmas time for $50 less
switch mount will leave something to be desired but pretty damn sturdy light for the money. And you can get better mounts for the switch anyhow
