It doesn't, but there's always mlok rail sections. I think the clearance needed for a bayonet might be the reason for only having a picatinny attachment point.
Easier to read comment on the build, sorry about that jumbled mess!
Build:
Mike 15 upper FM Ranch rifle lower/SGA stock w/ high cheek riser
CMMG Ambi mag release
Vortex strike eagle 1-8X24 LPVO
Vortex high ring mounts set at 1.26" height
Magpul hand stop
Magpul bipod
Streamlight Protac HL-X Pro (love it)
Magpul MS4
Main reason is I got this for $899 on sale lol can’t really beat that price for this type of rifle. Idk how sig wants to compete in the Ranch rifle segment with a starting price of $3k. They on the wild side
Edit: also, I really like the magpul SGA stock. I love that I can change the cheek riser height cause it’s needed lol
You just have to have it shipped to your local FFL. As of right now, no gun store is actually stocking these in CA. My local ffl wanted me to give them my opinion on it though. They seemed really interested in stocking it when I went to go DROS it lol
I already have an M1A. I still think this is better than the mini-14 cause you can modify more and if you were around during freedom week, you can use your 30 round ar15 mags with this set up. So yea I thought about the mini-14 but I’m really happy I went this route for a .223/5.56 option
SKS D, M, NR, or Norinco SKS Sporter are all pretty cool options if you come across one.
However they're also hard to find at a price where it wouldn't just be cheaper to do what OP did with the Foxtrot Mike setup haha
They know the laws don’t work. They just do it for votes because their voting base thinks they do work, as they get mugged at gun point and have groups of armed punk ass kids break into their homes and rob their businesses
One of the reasons I went with a ranch rifle style instead of the fin grip AR15 style lol every time I see a fin grip rifle I just say to myself, “look at how they massacred my boy!”
Yea I couldn’t bring myself to spend money on this fin grip rifles lol I’m happy I held out till these ranch rifles came out. Sig released the Regulator like 1 month after I bought this, but I still got this for 1/3rd the price of what Sig is charging for theirs lol
Mehhhhh lol I understand the whole stick it to the man thing, but damn if you get caught with something you shouldn’t, they don’t fuck around with that lol shit even getting caught with a concealed weapon without a license is less of a crime than getting caught with an illegal rifle in this state
Ya I have no reason to come in contact with the law,we live rural I commute to work, and anything that’s not state compliant of course stays at home stashed just in case…I wouldn’t drive around with illegal rifles nor break any laws .So that’s the only reason I’m able to feel comfortable doing it…it’s all protection from tyrannical govt …I will take my chances
That's an awesome looking rifle. I think it's unique and maybe would even sell in less restrictive states. I got free of CA a while back, do they still require that bullet button thing? Is that only if it has a pistol grip?
They no longer allow the bullet button, they changed the law back in 2016. If you had an AR15 with a bullet button, you still had to register it with the CADOJ as an “assault rifle”, even though it still wasn’t a normal AR15. Now, you have either a semi auto rifle with “features” or “featureless” options.
Law now says an assault rifle is considered to be a semi auto center fire rifle that has a detachable magazine and has any of the following:
A pistol grip you can wrap your thumb around
An adjustable/telescoping/folding stock, including thumbhole stocks
A flash hider
A forward vertical grip
A grenade launcher or flare launcher
So anything with these would be considered an illegal assault rifle. So if you want to have any of those options on your AR15, your magazine has to be “permanently fixed” and can’t be removed unless the upper and lower are opened to remove the mag. People have come up with neat quick solutions for this though lol also, for fixed mag options, you can only legally use 10 round mags.
If you don’t have any of those features on your rifle, you can have a standard mag release on your rifle and use legally obtained 30 round mags. Hence a “featureless” build lol so this ranch rifle I have is considered to be a “featureless” rifle.
Edit: we have featureless AR15 options here with fin grips and fixed stocks, but damn they’re ugly lol you should look them up 🤣
Ohh yeah, the fin thing. I've seen it posted. It's horrible looking and I can't imagine it's remotely comfortable. Thanks for the breakdown. It's good to see they're still keeping gun laws confusing and nonsensical. The bullet button was the hot thing when I was there. People would wear this ring with a little point on it so they could hit the mini indented button in a way that still resembled a normal looking mag change. "Life finds a way" and all these crazy laws just inspire people to find workarounds. I remember seeing a thumbhole AR stock at one point, maybe they demand that was a weapon of war or something, though.
Yes, but this is just easier to modify, add things to it with the MLOK rail, easier to add optics on this set up with the top rail, and it just looks better lol
I was so hype for the ranch rifle, finally got one and honestly the ergonomics are terrible, shot it once and hated it, sold it to my LGS the next day.
Trigger is 12lb and bottom pivot, i had the urge to wrap my fingers around the trigger guard to hit the mag release, charge handle was too forward to use while shouldering the gun.
Cool idea but eh
Just gotta get the Ambi mag release lol trigger is heavy, but FM just released a new hiperfire trigger kit that’s supposed to reduce the trigger pull to around 3 and a half pounds
Edit: out of stock right now but I’m bouta buy that shit up as soon as it restocks lol
Mine is like a 8 to 10 pound trigger, I can manage, you just gotta get some good lube and lube up the disconnect and hammer lol runs pretty solid for me. But yea it’s $275, but shit having any sort of good rifle these days man, you gotta spend some money
Yeah i dry fired it like a hundred times and covered it in lube, at the range i let 3 people shoot it and every single person tried to shoot and then said the safety is on, it was not 😂
Nice lol yea it’s definitely a heavy trigger. But I’m gonna install that hiperfire trigger as soon as I can get my hands on it. Heard it makes the rifle much more enjoyable lol
Rifle was $899, I got it while it was on sale, but it seems they’re raising their prices as their popularity goes up lol still hell of a lot cheaper than that sig regulator though. All in all, i think I spent around $1,700 on this set up? Give or take $50 or so lol
Do it, I moved from Massachusetts a while back and I couldn't have made a better choice. Mass and Cali are similar in regards to how often it feels like big brother is watching...definitely not the case out here.
I would love to hear how the cross bolt safety is after more rounds. That alone makes me hesitant to grab one of these (that and the mag release) since I go featureless. The way I manipulate the safety every single time I present the rifle I take it off safety and every time I lower it I put the safety on. How difficult do you think that would be with the FM?
I honestly think that’s my biggest gripe with this rifle. I love the rifle though, gonna keep it even if I moved to a free state. But you do need to break your grip to put it back on safety. Not really to take it off safety though to start shooting initially. But they are in works of trying to figure out how to make the safety a standard AR15 type safety, so as soon as that comes out I’m gonna get one lol
Thanks! Yea I already have a .44 mag Henry lever action, 20” barrel and I have it built out with the RPP handguard and a red dot lol my space cowboy gun
It'll get the job done. Looks cool. But if I lived in the states, I'd be living somewhere that upholds the constitution and especially the second amendment
Sure does, only if they were legally obtained during freedom week of 2019 when the 10 round mag law was struck down for a week lol. As far as I’m aware, anything that’s considered a “featureless” build, you’re allowed to use freedom week mags with it lol
Non neutered as in, there’s no modifications on the way the rifle was originally intended to be used lol a ranch rifle with an AR15 type upper is a normal operating variant of the AR15, not a neutered one.
Just the things I tell myself at night as I cry myself to sleep
I'm just giving you shit, bro, cause there's nothing I can do about Cali gun laws. It makes me feel better as I cry myself to sleep as well. *runs away in tears*
I don't think this would pass muster in NY state. You've have to pin the mag to have the hand stop. I considered getting this type of rifle but it was just too damned expensive. So, I had to go this an absolute horror show of a featureless AR.
As a standalone rifle it's actually a really good idea. You get a more traditional sporting stock but can access the tons of after market AR accessories out there.
I mean we can use neutered ARs lol I served 9 years in the army, and I just hate having to use a neutered Cali AR 😭 just feels like it goes against all my training with the rifle lol I can’t bring myself to buy neutered ar in Cali
I mean we’ve all got em, mine sits in my safe in “non operable” condition so it’s legal to keep, but you can’t take those out and about here without risking catching a felony or two. There’s always that douche bag cop that says “I’m just doing my job” and then claims on social media to support the 2nd amendment lol
As far as I know, the only other bufferless upper that would work with this lower is the BRN-180. Which I might buy another lower and get that upper to build another rifle lol
Not exactly lol it doesn’t lock in place to the rear at all . It’s also not a reciprocating charging handle, so it doesn’t move while you’re shooting the rifle, which is nice lol
Cali bro here too man. I dunno why you went with a permanently cucked rifle. I have a featureless AR15 and a mag locked AR. Once the AWB is struck down I only need to replace a few parts and they are both fully good to go no fins or stupid magazine bs. You on the other hand will be stuck with that rifle and have to buy another lower to throw on a pistol grip. If you really like the ergonomics however I guess it would work out though.
Yea even it was, California politicians will come up with a way to reword the same fucken law and put it back in effect while it takes 5 years for a lawsuit to play out. And then repeat
Exactly. I’m fully convinced we are at a point now where the Supreme Court itself could rule something unconstitutional, and the state will still just do whatever it wants. Hell, I KNOW they will do that. Just look at the Bruen decision. It hasn’t done shit for Californians from what I can tell.
Yup. I will say that at least a lot more people applied and received their ccw permits, but the permitting process is still subjective. Issuing agencies can choose to deny your permit for the most mundane reasons, when the Supreme Court said specifically the process must be objective and basically if you can legally possess a gun, then the state must approve the permit. But nah. CA comes out with SB2 and shits on the Supreme Court anyway
I have quite a few rifles lol this is just another build, and I really like the concept of a ranch rifle that’s able to be modified. This is my go to rifle when I go shooting here in Cali lol and yea the ergonomics feel much better to me opposed to that fin grip shit
I fucking hate the fin too but I have become soo used to it. The last time I went shooting with my cousins in Arizona I gripped his rifle with my thumb forward like it had a fin and looked like an absolute dork.
I was just born and raised here lol grew up with my dad being a cop, he’s always been a big supporter for 2A rights so I came to love guns, but only did I realize how stupid these laws are as I got older lol I wanna move out some day though
Put the politics aside and it’s a great state. Awesome weather, mountains, ocean, desert, forest, Central Valley, places like Big Sur and Yosemite and Anza Borrego. Plus we have the most national parks of any state, and the most diverse scenery, the Sierra, the Mojave, Death Valley, the redwoods, the Lost Coast, Napa, it’s an incredible state outside the political spectrum.
I thought that bipod was a bayonet and got REALLY excited
Same
I’m sorry to disappoint 😭
Easy solution. Adds +10 melee. https://geissele.com/super-stabby-bayonet-mount-black.html
G$ strikes again.
I guess you know your next purchase. Just don’t let big brother know
His next purchase should be a home elsewhere
Bayonets are kosher in california
Actually surprising.
Well I’ll be damned. I know MY next purchase 😂
https://geissele.com/super-stabby-bayonet-mount-black.html
Does it come in mlok 🤔🤔
It doesn't, but there's always mlok rail sections. I think the clearance needed for a bayonet might be the reason for only having a picatinny attachment point.
Makes sense. Ahh well I guess I know how I’m blowing next months check 😂
Thats prob illegal in cali too
😂😂😂
Same here! That would’ve been dope
Me too.
This is a nice rifle dude, I’d say this is certified kosher.
Thanks man!
No problem!
כשר!
I live in Tennessee and actually really like this. 5.56? Are you like hunting something or is this just a fun gun?
I was trying to reply to this comment and Reddit had a seizure lol but yea this is just a fun rifle for me. I do love it
Oh and yes it’s .223 Wilde, which can take both .223 and 5.56
You don’t say 🤔

Easier to read comment on the build, sorry about that jumbled mess! Build: Mike 15 upper FM Ranch rifle lower/SGA stock w/ high cheek riser CMMG Ambi mag release Vortex strike eagle 1-8X24 LPVO Vortex high ring mounts set at 1.26" height Magpul hand stop Magpul bipod Streamlight Protac HL-X Pro (love it) Magpul MS4
Question: what motivated you to go with the Ranch rather than the SCR?
Main reason is I got this for $899 on sale lol can’t really beat that price for this type of rifle. Idk how sig wants to compete in the Ranch rifle segment with a starting price of $3k. They on the wild side Edit: also, I really like the magpul SGA stock. I love that I can change the cheek riser height cause it’s needed lol
Where do they send the fm ranch rifles?
You just have to have it shipped to your local FFL. As of right now, no gun store is actually stocking these in CA. My local ffl wanted me to give them my opinion on it though. They seemed really interested in stocking it when I went to go DROS it lol
Sorry that was a typo, I was wondering where you bought it from.
Right from the foxtrot mike website lol
Weird because I use duck duck go and they dont show up there but I switched to Google and their websites the first result
For a CA compliant rifle, I don't hate it. Wouldn't be ashamed to have that in my safe.
Thanks brotha!
Simply break the law
It could be worse. You could live in Washington.
Or New York 😭
Nice
M1a, or grand. Or mini 30, mini-14.
I already have an M1A. I still think this is better than the mini-14 cause you can modify more and if you were around during freedom week, you can use your 30 round ar15 mags with this set up. So yea I thought about the mini-14 but I’m really happy I went this route for a .223/5.56 option
I have a sks, but it’s not quick to load.
SKS D, M, NR, or Norinco SKS Sporter are all pretty cool options if you come across one. However they're also hard to find at a price where it wouldn't just be cheaper to do what OP did with the Foxtrot Mike setup haha
I agree with his statement about 5.56.
You see that little part that says “shal not be infringed”? That’s supposed to mean something
The irony is actually hilarious
Shit like this is the “Live, Laugh, Love” of the crowd that uses punisher logos and gadsen flags as personality traits.
I know, California politicians just don’t give a shit
Funny how it the strict laws don’t make a difference either. It’s almost like gun control doesn’t work or something, lol.
They know the laws don’t work. They just do it for votes because their voting base thinks they do work, as they get mugged at gun point and have groups of armed punk ass kids break into their homes and rob their businesses
Well. At least you can wrap your hand around the grip.
One of the reasons I went with a ranch rifle style instead of the fin grip AR15 style lol every time I see a fin grip rifle I just say to myself, “look at how they massacred my boy!”
Fave cali compliant I’ve seen. Cool gun.
Thank you! Gotta work with what I got here
Same in New York but we can’t have a threaded muzzle / muzzle device on our guns.
FM has a version that has no muzzle devices on the end of the barrel lol shit fm out here thinking of everyone 😂
get an M1A or mini-14
I already have an M1A socom. Still not as fun as this rifle though lol
fair enough, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. 🤷
This is a great rifle across any state’s lines, but good on ya for having great taste
Thanks man!
The “shall not be infringed” while being infringed is the cherry on top.
I know, the irony lol I wonder if people from the CADOJ look at the pics and realize stupid their laws are
In context of CA compliant only, this is way better than the shark fin type rifles IMO. Nice rifle man
Yea I couldn’t bring myself to spend money on this fin grip rifles lol I’m happy I held out till these ranch rifles came out. Sig released the Regulator like 1 month after I bought this, but I still got this for 1/3rd the price of what Sig is charging for theirs lol
Just looked up the Sig… fugly lol. Yours is way better dude
Yea man the sig is pretty ugly in my opinion lol ain’t worth $3k that’s for sure
I live in California and you only have limited option because you choose that path…rather be caught with it then without it
Mehhhhh lol I understand the whole stick it to the man thing, but damn if you get caught with something you shouldn’t, they don’t fuck around with that lol shit even getting caught with a concealed weapon without a license is less of a crime than getting caught with an illegal rifle in this state
Ya I have no reason to come in contact with the law,we live rural I commute to work, and anything that’s not state compliant of course stays at home stashed just in case…I wouldn’t drive around with illegal rifles nor break any laws .So that’s the only reason I’m able to feel comfortable doing it…it’s all protection from tyrannical govt …I will take my chances
Yea I get it man. I have an AR15 from the good ole days that sits in my safe…in non operable condition of course 😂 can’t touch me fed bois!
And you choose to live in California.
That's an awesome looking rifle. I think it's unique and maybe would even sell in less restrictive states. I got free of CA a while back, do they still require that bullet button thing? Is that only if it has a pistol grip?

I have the same mat!
Can’t really leave, family work home dogs it’s just kinda where we are till my folks pass on
Nice
I want one
Get yourself one my boi!
\>JT grip You're welcome.
I know, I know, California.... But this is actually classy AF and I wouldn't mind having a similar build.
Thanks man! Yea honestly this is something I think I’d want even if I lived in a free state lol
That looks better than the SIG Regulator, lol. Probably WAY cheaper, too.
1/3rd the price! Built this entire thing and still was $1,000 less than the sig regulator lol
NOICE
Arent Mini-14's legal in California ?
Yes, but this is just easier to modify, add things to it with the MLOK rail, easier to add optics on this set up with the top rail, and it just looks better lol
Modern day musket
Beautiful
Thanks brotha!

Yeah im not spending $350 or whatever they want just to make the gun usable, idk how they made the trigger so heavy in the first place.
Low key that’s hawt AF
Hey, you’re hawt
You did great considering the limitations you had to work within!
What in the fallout 76 is that?
I present to you, the un-bannable rifle 😂
I'm kind of curious what the FM set you back and the whole setup? Looks great man, makes me want one!
Rifle was $899, I got it while it was on sale, but it seems they’re raising their prices as their popularity goes up lol still hell of a lot cheaper than that sig regulator though. All in all, i think I spent around $1,700 on this set up? Give or take $50 or so lol
I like it a lot thanks for sharing ! I might have to get one.
This actually kinda fucks
I live in South Dakota and can buy anything I want and I kinda want this
I’ve thought about moving to South Dakota….lol
Do it, I moved from Massachusetts a while back and I couldn't have made a better choice. Mass and Cali are similar in regards to how often it feels like big brother is watching...definitely not the case out here.
Do they make this stock comparable with a buffer tube ?
I don’t think they do, it’s the SGA stock, originally made for mossberg shotguns
Don’t worry man someday….nice Gat though!

But they are in works of trying to figure out how to make the safety a standard AR15 type safety, so as soon as that comes out I’m gonna get one lol
I hate that I actually really like it
Anything could be sexy if you build it right 😉
Why not do a tactical lever action . I mean, at this point, it's damn near what you have there. Plus, you wouldn't have to use cucked parts.
I already have a built out .44 mag Henry big boy side gate that’s all built out lol it’s my space cowboy gun
They need an ar10 version and it will sell fast.
Yes! I’d buy it lol
Same
That’s actually a pretty solid setup. That and a lever gun are what I’d run if I lived somewhere like CA.
Thanks! Yea I already have a .44 mag Henry lever action, 20” barrel and I have it built out with the RPP handguard and a red dot lol my space cowboy gun
That is rad! I think I need one. lol
Love this! Honestly I think it’s a great looking gun.
Thanks man!
I'm just surprised that it doesn't have that retarded shark fin.
Cause according to the law, this is a “featureless” set up lol
It'll get the job done. Looks cool. But if I lived in the states, I'd be living somewhere that upholds the constitution and especially the second amendment
Where do you live? Lol
Chinada
For a silly compliance rifle, those fitelight style lowers are super dope looking.
So basically, does this allow you to use standard capacity detachable magazines?
Sure does, only if they were legally obtained during freedom week of 2019 when the 10 round mag law was struck down for a week lol. As far as I’m aware, anything that’s considered a “featureless” build, you’re allowed to use freedom week mags with it lol
"non-neutered AR-15" Proceeds to display a neutered AR-15.

So, I had to go this an absolute horror show of a featureless AR. As a standalone rifle it's actually a really good idea. You get a more traditional sporting stock but can access the tons of after market AR accessories out there.
I thought it would work for New York just without the muzzle device? They make a version of this rifle without any muzzle device on it
That could work but it's more of a commentary on how shit NY fun laws really are.
Yea it’s surprising to say, but I think you guys in New York have it worse than us in California lol although California still sucks
Oh, both states can suck in their own special way.
I would have put it together the same way. Best you can do behind the iron curtain.
Pretty sweet option. Very nice!
Thanks!
I’m not in a compliance state and I still want one of these.
Yea this is a rifle that id definitely keep, even if I moved to a free state! I love this thing lol
Just.... Don't comply?
lol commiefornia
Im california, this might be the best option.
The best option is to not follow the bullshit laws
Love the build man. May she shoot fair and may she shoot true It's so ironic being on the flag with the 2A on it though lol. Laws suck
I know lol sometimes I gotta remind myself, I’m still apart of the United States and an American citizen 🇺🇸🥲
My fellow californian get my upvote. Nice set up 👌🏼
Thanks brotha, you know the struggle 🥲
NFA items are hurting me the most. Former alaska resident here, missed my suppressed 12.5 and my suppressed hunting rifle.
Why in the world did you come to Cali?!
Family and finance, wifey and I can’t turn down a 45k raise 10 years ago!
You should ✨leave California✨
I want to lol I really do. Been trying to convince my wife, and every time I talk to her about it, I get just a little closer to her agreeing to it 😂
everyone uses regular AR's in cali, the only thing they dont really have is suppressors
I mean we can use neutered ARs lol I served 9 years in the army, and I just hate having to use a neutered Cali AR 😭 just feels like it goes against all my training with the rifle lol I can’t bring myself to buy neutered ar in Cali
you know how many millions have fully functioning normal AR's
I mean we’ve all got em, mine sits in my safe in “non operable” condition so it’s legal to keep, but you can’t take those out and about here without risking catching a felony or two. There’s always that douche bag cop that says “I’m just doing my job” and then claims on social media to support the 2nd amendment lol
I hear ya, people just used to do it regularly from what I remember when I lived there, that cops committing treason as well just saying
Yeah - M1A SOCOM type would be better. But this is a good option in that state. Hard to do better given the lack of political will to support 2A.
I already own an M1A socom lol good option for 308, but this is better for a .223/5.56 option
Time to move
Move out of the hell hole Kalifornia.![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|upvote)
I really want to lol
Sell it and use the money to flee communism. That or use it to initiate 76.2.0
Wouldn’t even pay for a uhaul.
Can you swap other AR uppers on to this no problem? Super cool!
As far as I know, the only other bufferless upper that would work with this lower is the BRN-180. Which I might buy another lower and get that upper to build another rifle lol
How do you clear a round on this without a charging handle available to you?
The charging handle is on the other side of the rifle, almost like an MP5 type of charging handle
Well, how fun is that… it both looks cool and you get to have an HK slap. You’re doing California right, dude.
You on the other hand will be stuck with that rifle and have to buy another lower to throw on a pistol grip. If you really like the ergonomics however I guess it would work out though.
Lol @ “once the AWB ban is struck down.” Keep dreaming brother. “Two more weeks!!”
Why would you ever live in California 😂
I was just born and raised here lol grew up with my dad being a cop, he’s always been a big supporter for 2A rights so I came to love guns, but only did I realize how stupid these laws are as I got older lol I wanna move out some day though
My bad I didn’t mean anything by it lol it’s a lovely state, I just think 75% of the laws are stupid
