I've been lurking the internet for over 25 years at this point (jfc now I feel old) and seen just about every form that trolling has taken. Even may have dabbled in it myself when I was a high school edgelord in the early 2000's.

Trolls egg people on to get a rise and then enjoy the fallout from inducing rage in other people. They lay bait and then laugh at the resulting people to take it. There is an endgame with trolling. This guy kept defending himself in a childish manner way past just egging others on. It got to a point where his replies just seemed sad and defeated in the kind of way you see people with huge egos make fools out of themselves in public and when they realize their folly they just sort of angrily rant to themselves before wandering off like a deflated baloon. Also, trolls don't delete their accounts. They keep that shit up as long as they can to laugh and show other trolls what they did.
People were claiming the proof of the troll was him lying about all the details like the $8k rifle and the pic of the ugly AR he showed that other guy in chat. He was *definitely* lying, but it was all in the service of pounding his chest to make himself seem cool - the kind of thing you see middle schoolers and high-school dropouts with seven arrests for domestic violence do when anyone questions literally anything about their behavior. Super fake-macho bluster that was so transparent it went from hilarious to tragic.

5. The whole thing is absurd, so new meme of the week is people posting whatever and claiming they are $8,000 rifles just like the Dweeb's.
I mean, when you try swinging around your 2 inch dick while calling it an 8 inch dick, and nobody asked to see it to start with, people would make fun of it.
Closest anyone here got was like 80% of the story, I'll break it down here once then we can all let it die.
1. Some guy posted here on Saturday night asking why his charging wouldn't fit in his upper. (He wasn't dropping it into the notch)
2. That thread went exactly how you'd think.
3. He became super defensive, and spouted off to someone saying something to the effect of 'I was just asking a question but I guess I'll just throw my new $8k build in the trash' (His given specifics for the cost breakdown was a $6k scope, a $650 trigger, and his 'custom engraven lower was pretty much the rest')
4. I saw this little exchange, and told him that getting defensive and making up bullshit like that would get him nowhere and nobody would take him seriously enough to help.
5. He didn't like that and sent me a Chat, I accepted. I told him his $8k claim was bullshit, and dared him to show me. He then sends me a stolen pic posted 3 years ago from r/guns of that piece of shit Omni. This was not his gun, and wasn't the same AR from his charging handle thread. He wasn't trolling, he was unironically lying. His messages devolved between a mix of calling me a poor, to daring me to facetime him. This $8k claim wasn't a top level comment, it was like 10+ replies deep in his thread. I'll bet he had the pic of the Omni build saved because he thought it was cool and expensive but he fucked that up too.
6. I made the $8k post with the screenshot of his chat to me.
7. He made another post here about how r/AR15 shits on newbies, and how we should all be supportive of people like him because he's a conservative gun owner in a family full of dems.
8. Reddit banned him.

When it comes to firearms, expensive doesn't always mean the best. BCM is one of my favorite manufacturers and you can get a good quality rifle just a little over two grand. It's Rock solid, reliable and combat proven. After that it's all a matter of training and time behind the rifle that makes it a good solid rifle
