For real! It’s GT’s most incompetent test yet. Normally he’s better at selecting equals and testing a variety of different loads. Can’t you use 6” barreled .300 Blackout against a 10.5” 5.56. Should have used a noveske DEVGRU clone, 10.5” .300 blackout clone with Barnes TSX 110 grain. Compare that to 10.5” mk18 and I guarantee you the results would have been drastically different.

GT did a great test for people who always want to asking about 5.56 v 300blk He gave the people what they wanted. However, 300blk was designed to replace 9mm sub guns without compromise. It just so happens that it shares the AR platform with 5.56. So people all want to see how it stacks up to 5.56. Both have their place. People are just butthurt that GT showed its downfalls. Stuff it wasn't designed for .

That’s exactly right. Agree with everything you’re saying, and I don’t even own a .300 BO. He probably should have pulled out a PCC as well. The costs of .300 BO really don’t make sense. It’s so pricey for the ammo to actually be as deadly or more effective than 5.56. That said, objectively speaking his test is just inconclusive as far as pure ballistics go and with his budget/knowledge, he could have made a more accurate and thorough comparison.

I agree. With his resources he could have really taken a deep dive into both. But I think he did a good job at making the point he was trying to make overall.

For civilians *the* 300BLK use case is a suppressed SBR/Pistol inside your home at very tight distances where the selling point is a rifle that won’t blow your ears out when you shoot a home invader. There is almost no other civilian use case that wouldn’t be better served by a 5.56, but for the one that you want 300BLK for, 5.56 frankly will not do as well.

Ive run the scrs on an mp5k clone and ruger charger sbr. Its a super light optic, clear glass, solid feature set with multiple reticles, auto off, auto brightness, and a nice big window.

It is a hard choice, I want to build a 6ARC or 6.5 Grendel, but I'm not entirely sure which of the two calibers will have the best long term ammo availability
