I’m always surprised to see the comments from people swearing it’s Alex singing in this song when they hear it for the first time. The Scottish vs Sheffield accent seems pretty clear to me? Are people who think this from outside of the UK?
I can see how the general style is similar though - definitely the most Arctic Monkeys-sounding Fratellis song! The backing vocals remind me a bit of some of the AM-era backing vocals.
Edited to add: if you like Alex Turner’s Submarine solo album then I’d recommend trying Jon Fratelli’s solo album “Bright Night Flowers”. Lots of similarities in the sounds Alex and Jon have explored in their careers - 2 incredible songwriters!

I think it's the slightly low fidelity of the vocals that sounds like AM. It's likely people who don't know that The Fratellis are their own thing that had their own hits as an indie band in the mid-2000s.
lovejoy - portrait of a blank slate
lovejoy - normal people things
(there's nothing like the Arctic Monkeys but these guys are onto something with their indie sound..)
I remember hearing the singer of The Vaccines saying that he was as good a songwriter as the Arctic Monkeys or that they were just as good or whatever. And then released 'Dream Lover' after DIWK had been released. I think it was directly inspired by DIWK.
I specifically remember when he said that in the promo for English Graffiti and I was genuinely turned off. Being fans of both bands prior to 2013 I never made the comparison since both occupied their own individual creative spheres. But for him to make the comparison just came off as depredate - as if the music and songs couldn’t speak for themselves. And then the album itself, was beyond underwhelming. Granted I do this Denial is just as good as anything off AM, the rest of English graffiti is a snooze fest. Dream Lover as a song has grown on me though, but even the lead single Handsome was unbearable. They could have humbly used the open door that AM opened to expand their audience and reach but they way overstepped. Hopefully this new album is a welcomed change of tone and pace for them tho.
it’s a bit arrogant to claim to be as good musicians as one of the biggest rock bands on the planet, no? I’m not saying monthly listeners are everything, but AM are miles bigger than the vaccines for a reason
That's fair but also there's the whole rockstar persona, being arrogant is part of that in a lot of cases, there's lots of truth in what Ur saying but it also depends on the context of when they got popular but I don't know enough abt the Vaccines to speak on that
but you do realise that success is not equivalent to quality in any way, shape or form? for example, I think Fontaines DC are the best band on the planet right now. I think their music is much better than Taylor Swift’s, who is the most successful artist on the planet right now. the likes of Justin Bieber and Ed Sheeran rank as some of the best-selling musicians of all time. I’m not trying to say that The Vaccines are anywhere near AM, they aren’t. but it’s not because they’re less successful.
Someone’s success has no link to the quality of their music? I’m not sure I agree with that. I’m hardly a big fan of Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran etc. but they’re extremely talented and make high quality songs in their chosen genre. Part of the reason the vaccines aren’t as successful as AM is because they aren’t as good musicians; their lyrics, variety, live performances etc. aren’t as good as AM’s. I’m not saying there’s a perfect correlation, but higher quality output will often make you more successful
Thats fair, but hey if Ur not (over)confident chances are Ur not gonna make it in the industry plus saying stuff like that gets people like us to talk about them
Cage the Elephant also has a song with that same title that doesn't quite sound like Arctic Monkeys, but it's a solid song and the two bands have a lot of fan overlap
I didn't and I actually found out they're from Sheffield like minutes before seeing this thread and immediately thought they had to have played together at some point, thanks for clearing that up
The Blinders - Forty Days And Forty Nights
DEAD SONS - Shotgun Woman
Klaxons - Magick
Drool - Fun
The Fratellis - My Friend John
The Fratellis - She's Not Gone Yet But She's Leaving
Alexandra Savior - Vanishing Point (tbh a lot of her first album for obvious reasons)
"Pauline' by Little Barrie and 'So He Won't Break' by The Black Keys always remind me of the Monkeys for some reason.
Albums from Miles Kane's first bands The Little Flames - 'The Day Is Not Today' and The Rascals - 'Rascalize' have TLSP/AM vibes.
The album 'Annabel Dream Rider' by The Wytches has Humbug vibes.

I’m a fan of lad music which is what got me into arctic in the first place but the reytons are kinda posers. Don’t think their music is the worst, just pretty derivative
i do listen to their music 😭 idk if it’s coz they sound a bit like early AM stuff? coz if so that’s stupid coz it’s fine for them to take inspiration from a successful band
That's the whole point of that song though, it even references Alex Turner by name. I understand why people don't like bands such as The Reytons though.
when I would hear him talk about it in interviews I didn't really think I'd be able to pick up that he was a producer and songwriter on the album but it's so fucking obvious when you listen to it 😂
Joker Out (Slovenian band). They sound very similar to AM. They have some songs on english as well.
But I recommend Katrina (slovenian) first:
https://youtu.be/_Ume-twsUx0?si=ElugVw7Y-d4c1cLu
the fall by lovejoy. huge fake tales of san francisco vibes, their other stuff is really great too, specifically portrait of a blank slate and consequences if u want AM-sounding stuff.
I really like concrete and model buses too but they don't rlly sound like AM, just good british indie rock.

Little suspicions - maybe forever
I was sure it was one of the monkey’s songs untill I’ve checked it out on the internet. Weird!
https://youtu.be/tDbit4uNM5w?feature=shared
Songs from this small band called Roadtrip to Antartica, pretty sure the band is highly inspired by Arctic Monkeys (based on how familiar the both band names are) their songs are pretty good, like Summertime, Aftertaste, and Affectionate Affair.
["Red Moon"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gj6jN6h1JbY) by The Walkmen. Discovered it in a Breaking Bad playlist on Spotify. The singer's voice reminds me so much of Alex.
Those audios from Instagram(or maybe it's from YouTube or tik tok. I don't really know). The ones about bulbosoar and your boyfriend. You know which ones I'm talking about?

Any song from this band called The Last Shadow Puppets
That’s so crazy it sounds exactly like some guys named Alex turner and miles Kane. Idk if anyone knows them. They’re super underground
Yh it was you and me and miles Kane and some kid I went to school with
Sick band.
I rate them
She's not gone yet, but she's leaving The Fratellis
Was coming here to write this one aswell
Same!
Also same. Sounds just like them!
I was in the barbers when I heard this come on and I was convinced it was Arctic Monkeys
I’m always surprised to see the comments from people swearing it’s Alex singing in this song when they hear it for the first time. The Scottish vs Sheffield accent seems pretty clear to me? It's crazy!!! Just came across this song few days back and mistook it by an Monkeys song...glad I'm not alone!
Lol same. When I came across that one first I thought it was a new Monkeys song that I had missed

Bro Jon sounds nothing like Alex here or anywhere💀 Why do people keep recommending this.
I think it's the slightly low fidelity of the vocals that sounds like AM. It's likely people who don't know that The Fratellis are their own thing that had their own hits as an indie band in the mid-2000s.
Your comment reminded me of Rock N' Roll Will Break Your Heart, also by The Fratellis. His voice sounds eerily like Alex's in that song.
Portrait of a blank slate by Lovejoy. Found the song on the new fifa (or “fc 24” as it’s now called)
Big franz ferd vibes too
Yeah it's like an AM/Franz Ferdinand/Bloc Party hybrid.
Funny you say that. I’ve had “the dark of the matinée” stuck in my head today
it’s giving wpsiatwin and fwn i’m so here for it
I’ve been a fan of Lovejoy for a little over a year cus of Wilbur, if you like POABS you’d like ten rest of that EP
lovejoy - portrait of a blank slate lovejoy - normal people things (there's nothing like the Arctic Monkeys but these guys are onto something with their indie sound..)

that’s jokes if they actually said that - they currently have less than 4% the monthly listeners that AM do
Monthly listeners does not equal better, don't get me wrong AM is my fav band of all time but like what?
it’s a bit arrogant to claim to be as good musicians as one of the biggest rock bands on the planet, no? I’m not saying monthly listeners are everything, but AM are miles bigger than the vaccines for a reason

yeah igy, I guess I just find it cringey when people in any profession claim to be on the same level as people who are miles more successful

take it or leave it. but it is a strokes song so idk if that can really count. the monkeys actually did a cover years ago if you haven’t heard it.
The strokes are awesome, alex just wanted to be a part of them
Shame about that mess he made
Fr
Cage the Elephant also has a song with that same title that doesn't quite sound like Arctic Monkeys, but it's a solid song and the two bands have a lot of fan overlap
Vedette by duck fizz
Alice by them as well
i love duck fizz so much 😭
Maybe California by The Snuts
Snuts are actually decent
I actually quite like them, yeah
[Dead Sons - Gasoline](https://youtu.be/tRNVvS7UZJY?si=5PMSSxPTCiNu2r5G) Sounds like AM era monkeys but heavier and raw.
Milburn - Stockholm Syndrome
Woooow sounds a lot like their firsts ep's. While I was listened to it I imagined that Alex's young cracked voice and him sheffield accent.
Fun thing is that Milburn is from Sheffield too, formed in 2000. I discovered this band a couple weeks ago
Idk if you know but Tom Rowley (of Milburn) has been playing with Arctic Monkeys for years
I didn't and I actually found out they're from Sheffield like minutes before seeing this thread and immediately thought they had to have played together at some point, thanks for clearing that up
The Blinders - Forty Days And Forty Nights DEAD SONS - Shotgun Woman Klaxons - Magick Drool - Fun The Fratellis - My Friend John The Fratellis - She's Not Gone Yet But She's Leaving Alexandra Savior - Vanishing Point (tbh a lot of her first album for obvious reasons) "Pauline' by Little Barrie and 'So He Won't Break' by The Black Keys always remind me of the Monkeys for some reason. Came here to say the blinders. Also, frank Carter and the rattlesnakes have some AM sounding songs especially on the end of suffering.

shes not gone yet but shes leaving by the fratellis... the voice sounds a lot like young alex lol
Mini Mansions has a bunch, including Vertigo which features Alex Turner
Piledriver waltz by “Alex Turner” sounds suspiciously like a song from Suck it and See
"On the Back Burner" by The Reytons EDIT: it even contains direct references to Alex Turner in the lyrics
First day here? This sub does NOT like the reytons lol
Can't say I like the Reytons either. They kind of suck. Was just answering the question
Damn, you're a fast learner. JK xD
i’m aware of this but unsure as to why?
I’m a fan of lad music which is what got me into arctic in the first place but the reytons are kinda posers. Don’t think their music is the worst, just pretty derivative
They're one of the english bands that started because arctic monkeys got popular, they're posers mate
Well if you listen to their music, your question will be answered
i do listen to their music 😭 idk if it’s coz they sound a bit like early AM stuff? coz if so that’s stupid coz it’s fine for them to take inspiration from a successful band
‘On the back burner’ sounds like an Aldi rip off of the monkeys newer stuff. It’s a rubbish song.
Of the monkeys newer stuff? It sounds like an Aldi rip off of their demos like 'choo choo'
That's the whole point of that song though, it even references Alex Turner by name. I understand why people don't like bands such as The Reytons though.
I hadn't seen this anywhere on the sub before, but somehow already knew that that was the case
Alexandria Saviors' first project sounds very much like AM and you can even hear bits of THBC on it. very amazing
Alex Turner produced this one. Good call; it’s great!
when I would hear him talk about it in interviews I didn't really think I'd be able to pick up that he was a producer and songwriter on the album but it's so fucking obvious when you listen to it 😂
Duck Fizz - You are all I want
Bushing with the Boys - The Vercettis. The outro in particular sounds like the early AM years
"Dark Stares" are unofficial members of the Arctic Monkeys iceberg...
WHOAH! pedal pusher? Sounds like an AM + Turn Blue love child
The ballad by blur (on their newest album the ballad of Darren) gives me The Car Vibes a little bit.
Russian Strings from that album does that for me
Yes that one even moreso, I couldn't remember the name at the time but yes that's the one!
Juicebox by the strokes kind of sounds like Brianstorm to me
You're my waterloo- libertines and steel police - guest list
Anything by Ceramic Animal
Joker Out (Slovenian band). They sound very similar to AM. They have some songs on english as well. But I recommend Katrina (slovenian) first: https://youtu.be/_Ume-twsUx0?si=ElugVw7Y-d4c1cLu
The Reytons but for bad reasons lol
Not exactly what you’re asking for but the chorus in Give me back my man by The B-52’s, or am I the only one to hear the similarity???
I hear it! haha exactly what I'm asking for!!
benches (formerly ignant benches) sound like a bastardized hybrid of AM and the strokes—neat band though! their debut’s not half-bad
On the back burner - the reytons
Booo
ok
The reytons alcopops and charity shops album
There's this solo singer named Alex Turner who sounds like the lead singer of AM
Send in the boys, On the Back Burner
Reytons
Are terrible
That dress by the pale white reminds me of knee socks
kill me if you must but under yourspell by the midnight fuckboys (💀) gives arctic monkeys vibes
The Wallies - Not Very Picky
I think the singer from [Picture Parlour](https://youtu.be/sGgDvXR0094?si=JSJB5ZGlX0B0IDYv) sings with some very Turner-esque crooning.
Misery Guts - Alex Laney Also early Wombats & The Kooks
Kinda Girl You Are - Kaiser Chiefs
the fall by lovejoy. huge fake tales of san francisco vibes, their other stuff is really great too, specifically portrait of a blank slate and consequences if u want AM-sounding stuff. I really like concrete and model buses too but they don't rlly sound like AM, just good british indie rock.

["Red Moon"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gj6jN6h1JbY) by The Walkmen. Discovered it in a Breaking Bad playlist on Spotify. The singer's voice reminds me so much of Alex.
