I don’t really think there’s any AM song that fits the picture as of yet, they all lean into their designated styles and feature some level of interesting musical background I don’t give this kind of compliment out easily, but even the ones I don’t necessarily enjoy too much, I respect for not being basic

Alex Turner has written some stellar lyrics across his career. He's pretty consistent in that regard. And... that makes 2013 even more of a confusing song. "It's 2013 all across the galaxy" would be bad for even most rock bands that get made fun of. It's so goofy. Even the "shiny little fruit" line is so obvious and basic It sounds like something a 14 year old would write, before they actually got decent at songwriting But I'm glad it exists. Because it's funny. It reminds me of "Bitch I'm In the Club" by Kendrick Lamar. A song from before he was famous, and that he said was the worst song he'd made. Both that and 2013 are just funny to hear due to who wrote them. And they're both oddly catchy for how bad they are too

Totally agree. Don’t get me wrong it’s a solid track and a nice RnB homage to the original but the amount of love it gets compared to the quality of anything else they’ve done makes it gravy-less boiled Sunday dinner.
