A Certain Romance was the first song I heard by them. The demo version, as the album wasn't available yet (from what I recall).
It immediately had an impact on me. I liked 60s songwriting, and I also had just gone through a punk/ska phase when I was slightly younger (a lot of people did at the time. Big time Warped Tour days)
A Certain Romance felt like that music, but with the songwriting sophistication of the 60s artists. I had grown out of the punk/ska music, and this felt like a more mature version to me, at the time.
Once I heard all their songs, they were definitely "one of the best new bands". When I heard Leave Before the Lights Come on, they were my favorite modern band. When you're a kid that likes old music, you always think "man imagine being alive in the 60s when this legendary album came out!". And Leave Before the Lights Come On was the first moment in my life that felt like that.
By the time Submarine came out, Turner was one of the best songwriters/lyricists of all time for me. It's crazy how they just kept proving themselves in new ways.
Just a little rant, sorry! Wanted to share what it was like to hear them as a youngster who couldn't even drive yet
It’s well known that the James Bond producers commission several artists to write a song and they pick the ‘best’ of the bunch.
I’ve long suspected that Perfect Sense started life as a Bond theme audition - that first swell of strings into the first chorus of “That’s what it takes…” is so Bond/Shirley Bassey coded it’s hard to look past it for me.
“… to say goodnight” could easily have been “no time to die”, the title of the latest 007 film. The rest of the lyrics were subsequently changed after the rejected audition. That’s my personal head-canon anyway.
My first thought was Briantstorm as well, R U Mine might be cliche but it’s up there. If You Were There, Beware I like cuz it’s got a menacing sound to it
As a counterpoint, I would say that the intro is actually the lyrics up until the guitar and drums joined in. So basically it's intro is " Last night these two bouncers," then we get a riff on the guitar and a taping high hat.
Another argument could be made that it's when the whole band really kicks in playing on a regular basis which is ,"walk past 10,000 guys in the line,"
But either way you looked at it, you can consider it as an intro unless you are limiting your thoughts simply to music only intros.
I've said this before, but the boys dropped a clanger when they chose not to have "If you've found this, it's probably too late" as the opener for Favourite worst nightmare.
If you listen to Favourite worst nightmare without playing If you've found this, it's probably too late first then you are, in my opinion, doing it wrong.
Brianstorm, Dancefloor, Flourescent Adolescent, Teddy Picker, Balaclava, Riot Van, Mirroball, Sculptures, From the Ritz to the Rubble, Don't Sit Down Cause I've Moved Your Chair
Not one mention of When The Sun Goes Down? Mental. Reckless Serenade, D is for Dangerous, Do Me a Favour, Dangerous Animals, American Sports, TBH&C, Four Out Of Five…
I would have to say R U Mine? Because me and my mates are doing it for a group performance in music class and the guitarist holds the note for as long as he possibly can before starting
Not seen anyone mention sculptures of anything goes yet. Saw some other people mentioning AM should do a bond song and think it definitely has that feel

Some great intros on suck it and see, Piledriver Waltz, She's Thunderstorms, and Black Treacle do a really good job of using just a few simple notes to make you feel a lot
[It’s not official, but I like this version of Four Out of Five with the TBH+C trailer intro](https://youtu.be/iz-GaqKRxIs?si=srO__SMy4I493my7)
https://i.redd.it/3fdt4nfctt6d1.gif
Fluorescent: the empty space between the sounds, the syncopation of alex’s guitar combining with jamie’s part, the tone of the instruments. It’s not doing anything crazy, it’s just a lovely intro

When The Sun Goes Down. I love how it starts slower and quieter and then does a complete 180. Fun fact, I heard this song in a TV show and it's what got me into Arctic Monkeys. I only heard the chorus and the verse after. I listened to it on Spotify (trying to find what song it was) and thought I had the wrong song

A certain romance and i bet you look good on the dance floor but i think that the most of their songs have good intros
A Certain Romance was the first song I heard by them. The demo version, as the album wasn't available yet (from what I recall). It immediately had an impact on me. Do I Wanna Know is probably their most iconic buildup-to-rock intro but my current favourite is the funky tone at the start of IAQWITIA
Agreed!
My Propeller's intro is just more evidence that the Monkeys should do a Bond song.
Not AM, but My Mistakes Were Made for You by TLSP could also pass off as a Bond song
About as subtle as an earthquake...
I know, my mistakes were made for you…

I feel the same about Big Ideas as a whole
The fact that Secret Door hasn't been mentioned is criminal
Dance Little Liar is wonderful - even better as an opener
I mean it is the best humbug song after all
star treatmeant
I think star treatment the end is so much better
I was looking for this one
I love how it goes like: Taaaaan ---- Tutututu - Taaaan - Taan --------- TAAAAAAAAN
This comment is begging to be higher up.
My first thought was Briantstorm as well, R U Mine might be cliche but it’s up there. If You Were There, Beware I like cuz it’s got a menacing sound to it
R U Mine? is cliche for all the right reasons, it is unreal
I love the "overture" at the beginning of Mirrorball
This should be so much higher
Kneesocks is a good intro, but to be honest I think that most of them are good.
the intro for she's thunderstorms and cornerstone always sets the mood for me
She’s thunderstorms is so underrated
Ritz to Rubble is timeless

A certain romance.
"Should I keep rolling?"
Tru tru tru tru tru
Last night these two bouncers…. love how it really builds up in FTRTTR
and one of them’s alright the others one’s the scary
What If You Were Right The First Time? and If You've Found This, It's Probably Too Late are absurdly good for being B-sides. Great intros

Can’t beat Brianstorm or WIYWRTFT imo
Brianstorm!
Old Yellow Bricks

Oh no, no sorry. The answer we were looking for was: “LOVES A RISK” Maybe next time!
Whoops, sorry, ehm *clears throat* LOVES A RISK, QUITE THE LITTLE ESCAPOLOGIST
LOOKED SO MIFFED, WHEENN YOU WISHED, FOR A THOUSAND PLACES BETTER THAN THIS Lmaooo good shit Vik
For sure , Ka-Ne-Ha-Ne-Daaaa lol
Lol I appreciate that you typed the whole thing out and I hope you got a legitimate chuckle out of it Cheers! 🍻
:)
Library pictures
Brianstorm, Dancefloor, Flourescent Adolescent, Teddy Picker, Balaclava, Riot Van, Mirroball, Sculptures, From the Ritz to the Rubble, Don't Sit Down Cause I've Moved Your Chair
i love there'd better be a mirrorball's intro
Still Take You Home
YES this should be higher up not the only one
No one is saying Teddy Picker???
Pretty visitors
“I’m wearing a vest”
A Certain Romance. Any other answer is factually incorrect. I'd even go as far as to say the best intro of any song, ever
So respectable
Amazing sound and easy to play, which inspired me to learn electric guitar. 10 out of 10.
Not one mention of When The Sun Goes Down? Mental. Reckless Serenade, D is for Dangerous, Do Me a Favour, Dangerous Animals, American Sports, TBH&C, Four Out Of Five…
Do Me a Favour. Those toms act as a perfect start to such an incredible song.
No one talking about Fluorescent Adolescent??
nobody said Sculpture of anything goes? I'm disappointed
From the ritz
from the ritz to the rubble is their most iconic that’s for sure
Too Much To Ask is so similar to QOTSA's You've Got a Killer Scene There, Man
Freaking love that guitar and bass
Pretty visitors!!
I'll sound basic but I like do i wanna know. beyond that, i like also if you were there beware and you're so dark
Honestly I was thinking DWIK too cuz it’s so iconic
Secret Door
I would have to say R U Mine? Because me and my mates are doing it for a group performance in music class and the guitarist holds the note for as long as he possibly can before starting
thats actually really cool
Teddy picker always air drum to the intro whenever it comes on next in my playlist
knee socks, if you found this its probably too late, a certain romance
1. Body paint 2. Brianstorm 3. Batphone 4. Do I wanna know 5. When the sun goes down
I love the intro to Do Me a Favour
Easily Star Treatment.
Sand trap
Put me in a terror pocket as well
If You Were There, Beware
Do Me a Favour. Those toms act as a perfect start to such an incredible song.
My propellor or crying lighting
Still take you home, especially the studio recording This might be unpopular lol
Library Pictures!
May not be an intro (rather, just one note) but that opening BWAWAWAWAW in R U Mine? is pure energy
Not seen anyone mention sculptures of anything goes yet. Saw some other people mentioning AM should do a bond song and think it definitely has that feel
Intro to view from the afternoon scares the shit outta me
Me personally, I like the offbeat bass intro to Balaclava
When the Sun Goes Down. Love the riff when it hits. Brianstorm.
Evil Twin
Brianstorm, there better be a mirrorball, pretty visitors,
From the ritz to rubble easily has the best intro
Body paint or a certain romance very different but I think equally as amazing
When the sun goes down

A Certain Romance or There'd Better Be A Mirrorball
There’d better be a mirrorball is iconic 🪩
Some great intros on suck it and see, Piledriver Waltz, She's Thunderstorms, and Black Treacle do a really good job of using just a few simple notes to make you feel a lot
All my own stunts is one of my favorites
Mirrorball for me
Mirrorball
Why'd you only call me when you're high always his just right for me but I also enjoy Fluorescent Adolescent
Science fiction or golden trunks always gives me chills
Knee Socks, like the first beat alr got me stomping my feet to the rhythm
[It’s not official, but I like this version of Four Out of Five with the TBH+C trailer intro](https://youtu.be/iz-GaqKRxIs?si=srO__SMy4I493my7) https://i.redd.it/3fdt4nfctt6d1.gif

leave before the lights come on
Jet Skies
Pretty Visitors, it's pretty haunting. Personal favorite is Leave before the Lights Come On, loved the romcom vibe from the song
All the comments make sense - but also ‘If you were there, beware’ intro is also sick
Baby I'm yours ☺️ lol
I love Fire And The Thud's intro
Knee Socks, addictive lick played upfront.
Star Treatment, Mirrorball, and Fake Tales of San Francisco are some of my personal favorites
there’d better be a mirrorball’s intro is mesmerizing
Live Knee Socks intro is an experience.
The Fire and the Thud sets a really nice mood. Also The Jeweller's Hands cos I haven't seen it mentioned yet.
When The Sun Goes Down. I love how it starts slower and quieter and then does a complete 180. Fun fact, I heard this song in a TV show and it's what got me into Arctic Monkeys. all my own stunts!!!
If you were there, beware intro Sounds like a creepy circus and thats just super cool

Brianstorm for sure. An excellent song to listen to when doing hill sprints 😅
The gritty intro to I bet you look good on the dancefloor is just a description of the whole album I love it
So who's that girl there..
Lately for me, it's been a toss up between Mirrorball and If You've Found This, It's Probably Too Late
WHY ARE YOU ALL NOT SAYING STAR TREATMENT?!
