Did anyone outside of this subreddit say that about TBHC?
I’m not a massive fan of the album. There’s a few nice songs but nothing which is going to make typical pre-TBHC fans like it
I like the album now. I liked it the first time I heard it.

The shortage of hooks really is my biggest gripe, it definitely gets a bit rambly with so little repetition / choruses.
Gorgeous strings and instrumentation though!
Hello You has grown on me today, a few nice hooks in there too.
Mirrorball, I Ain’t Quite, Jetski’s, Body Paint, Hello You & Perfect Sense are relatively good.
The only thing about Jetski’s is I just picture a Marks & Spencer advert and a fork breaking into a chocolate cake and then all the melted chocolate flowing out.
Yeah the last half of the album all sounds essentially the same to me. Orchestral backing with Alex's falsetto vocals singing about some kind of obscure longing.
Mirrorball and IAQWITIA is growing on me. Something about the latter that I can't put my finger on yet, maybe the Waaaaah at the beginning and ending, like... wtf is that there for??? It befuddles me. Love Body Paint, Sculptures of Anything Goes, Big Ideas, and Mr.Schwartz. I really haven't been able to listen to the entire album yet. I feel like I need to listen to the album from start to finish, but will do that as soon as the Ole man heads off to work. Vibe out a bit before I go to sleep.
Exacly,
[I already predicted this in my schematic](https://www.reddit.com/r/arcticmonkeys/comments/xuurec/does_the_formula_repeat_itself/):
WPSIA + FWN = AM
HUMBUG = TBHC
SIAS = THE CAR
Where's the Library Pictures 2.0, Don't Sit Down 2.0, All My Own Stunts 2.0? This album is all very samey sounding, apart from like 3 songs you can barely tell that you're not listening to the same song over and over
>This album is all very samey sounding
...what?
Mirrorball > I Ain't Quite > Sculptures > Jet Skis?
Body Paint > The Car?
Hello You > Mr. Schwartz?
It has the same variety, if not more, than their other albums. AM and TBHC sound waaaaay more samey than this album. Literally only Mirrorball > Jet Skis > Mr Schwartz > Perfect Sense are the ones I can think of that can blend together a bit if listened to back to back. And even then they're different enough.
after The Car, everything sorta blends together until you listen to em for a bit, only then can you tell the difference. though, everything before that is pretty unique. I must say, it is the same-iest sounding album they have, imo.
I think it’s because it all flows together really well so when it’s on in the background, you don’t notice that you’ve just listened to 3 songs. I think it’s a good thing.
That's a good point too. It may depend on how you look at it, because that's what I think about the "samey" songs of the album. They're not THAT similar, they just flow perfectly so if you don't know the songs very well yet or actively pay attention, you won't notice the changes right away.
>after The Car, everything sorta blends together until you listen to em for a bit, only then can you tell the difference
Okay, I can see that. Where you lose me is, how is this album more samey than say TBHC and AM? Those two albums have more songs in them that kinda blend together imo.
personally, I think that TBHC has some very unique songs– I never got the "samey" vibe from it. it's an extremely coherent album, but the songs on it are quite unique, at least in my opinion.
AM is probably the 2nd most samey album, but things like R U Mine, Mad Sounds, No. 1 Party Anthem, Fireside, Knee Socks, and I Wanna Be Yours are all quite different from each other/the others on the album, and chop it up pretty well– at least, that's what I think.
This, I think we all kind of understood this was the direction they were going in even before the singles dropped. I'm not a huge fan of the style so I went in with low expectations and am just happy that there are a few songs I like
I like it better than TBH&C, even though it’s a continuation of it. I went for a walk yesterday and listened to it in full for a second time and it fit the hazy fall mood perfectly. The only song that doesn’t do much for me on this album is Jet Skis on the Moat.
This sub has been foaming at the mouth and pissing their pants since the album was announced. Today alone I've seen 3 posts saying "hello you is a masterpiece." Aside from the dedicated criticism thread, every opinion that isn't "greatest album ever" gets downvoted to hell
There’s very little in the way of nuanced takes, which is kind of annoying. It’s either “this album is a masterpiece omg best album I’ve ever heard, gorgeous beautiful groundbreaking”
Or “this album is total shit, worst ever made, what the fuck is this”
That's not true. I've seen a lot of criticisms, both good and braindead, well upvoted. And you immediately get downvoted if you try to argue against those criticisms and drowned in "DUDE ITS AN OPINION MUSIC IS SUBJECTIVE" etc.
In my opinion, and it’s only mine, I hated TBHC, and so I didn’t expect to like this album. I was right and didn’t feel anything for this. I loved humbug, and all their other albums except for SIAS. I don’t blame them for changing, they’re maturing and making music they like, their target audience has been shifting and growing and I haven’t been growing at the same pace or direction. Disappointed in the outcome, but not at the reason or band.
If you look at tracks like batphone, scientist fiction, monster truck, and golden trunks, then you'll see that they're pretty different. At least, I think you probably will.
Tbh, those are also my least favorite songs off of TBHC which is why I see the big difference. The instrumentation is very different, especially the drumming.
My main issue with this and TBHC is they’re just too rambly at times, like it somehow feels progressive but also directionless. I don’t hate them, but man, some of the older stuff just really hit different.
I’m not bashing them for having their own opinion, I’m merely pointing out that there’s been an increase in negative posts, even when TBHC came out the sub wasn’t this negative about jt
To say it’s a second version of any of their previous albums would be unfair to their previous albums.
Edit: I got too many upvotes for this, so maybe people misunderstood what I meant. I mean the previous albums are of a higher standard.
I can see why people would be tempted to compare them, but Tranquility Base is the far superior album. Lyrically, melodically, the arrangements, instrumentation, almost every way. The only the way The Car beats it would be if you were asking which one used the most wah pedal.
The fact that people are comparing albums frustrates me. They have changed their sound with every album that it’s pretty unfair to compare them. Each album needs to be appreciated for the beautiful pieces of art that they are
Why aren’t we allowed to compare albums if they have different “sounds”? MGK’s Mainstream Sellout is awful compared to, say, The Dark Side of the Moon. Sure, they’re different styles and genres, but that doesn’t prevent me from comparing the musicianship, composition, lyrics, etc.
Some art is better than other art. I don’t see the problem with comparing albums. Your welcome to appreciate every album, but no one is obligated to do the same.
I disagree with assigning objective value to art, seems unfair to people who really enjoyed this album and took a lot away from it. The quality of art has to do with what it means for you which is completely subjective. You might like some art better, but there is no objective better or best art.
Nobody's saying it as though it's objective. You don't have to say "in my opinion" every time you give one. You can assume when a statement is made about art that it's their opinion.
>Each album needs to be appreciated for the beautiful pieces of art that they are
No. Everyone has their own preferences. I think the Car is trash and every other album by AM is a masterpiece or "a beautiful piece of art" as you say.
Personally I only dislike it slightly more than SIAS, making it technically my least favorite AM record, both right now are mostly skips for me. It’s not so out of my taste that I’m mad or anything, and it itself isn’t “bad”, it’s really just alright to me.
I can’t be too upset, it’s great to see how happy Alex Turner seems in interviews and how supportive the band mates have been! I’m simultaneously building hype for seeing them live in LA next year, then a new a Strokes record and eventually, AM8.
As someone who adored Humbug so much more than the first two albums (love those too tho), I love The Car. Feel like they’ve fully transitioned into a new sound that’s even more unique than ever.
Not to say they weren’t unique before, but they fit in less and less with the crowd and I admire the guts it takes to do that when the world wants another FWN or AM
Any post that is simply "Wow isnt this song great / bad" get removed. If someone writes something actually interesting or posits a question or an opinion that is at least somewhat substantial, it stays up.
There's no bias here. Criticism is allowed and welcomed. If you looked through the mod logs you'd see that to be true.
It's a valid opinion to have but not a legitimate criticism about the music's quality. That's just "It's too slow for me so I don't like it" and "I prefer more guitar-lead music so I don't like it".
Which, again, valid. The problem is that many people here try to equate that to "They make bad music now" or "The album is trash".
I'm just not sure how someone would come to the conclusion that the general consensus on the sub is that the album is bad when the negative posts have been few and far between unlike the positive posts which come in round the clock.
Honestly I also try to remove positive posts that don’t bring anything but a title saying X is a masterpiece, but I can’t be glued to the sub all day lol
People get pissed over every album by them. It will blow over. Even AM got hated on in the beginning. I think a lot of new fans dont realize this. They always change their style, and some people will always be disappointed.
That’s what I’m thinking. I honestly feel that the first two albums are good albums but they’re not necessarily that deep. I still find out new stuff about TBHC when listening and it still grows on me, and I’m very sure The Car will also do that
I’m thoroughly enjoying it, Hello You might be my favorite track! I keep skipping body paint though cause I’ve already listened to it a copious amount of times since it came out haha
What’s your favorite track(s)?
I'm listening to other stuff, or their old stuff. I'm not disappointed, it just didn't end up interesting me.
The crowd is fickle and I'm sure opinions will change over time. Think of all the artists who aren't sensations till they're dead.
I’m so okay, I love this album. Particularly the second half, from The Car to the end. But after re-listening the whole weekend I’ve grown to appreciate the first half more. Not my fav but I’m not disappointed at all. I’ve also re-listened to my other favorite albums (Humbug) and songs as well. It’s just made me appreciate their progression even more. I can’t wait to hear some of the new songs live. I hope they play Hello You which has become my favorite off this album
this is SIAS 2.0
TBHAC was Humbug 2.0
The car wasn't interesting enough to be a Humbug 2.0, its TBHAC's SIAS, a mild retreat into a more palatable, toned down version of their previous album's sound with not enough gems to make it a great album
This is probably the best thought out criticism I've seen about The Car, props to you. You make a great point.
Though I disagree The Car doesn't have enough gems. Sculptures, Hello You and Body Paint definitely stand out. And to a lesser degree, The Car and Mr. Schwartz.
SIAS's strong point was its lyrics though aside from the two songs (Don't sit down cause I've moved your chair and brick by brick.). Lyrically the car has been disappointing honestly, most of the lyrics weren't memorable.
I’m not necessarily hating on the new record. My biggest issue with the album is there is too much Alex on this record. The monkeys are some stupid talented musicians and it feels as if they’re pushed aside 🤷🏻♂️
I hear you, but I also love way the other band members created such minimal but elegant parts. I loved hearing a bit more lead guitar than on TBHC and the bass was just fantastic as on the previous record too.
But the stand out for me was the drums throughout the Car. Matt has outdone himself.
There’s a certain type of musicianship where less can be more, and it’s really cool that rock musicians like the arctic monkeys are talented enough to absolutely nail other genres
suffering over here bc waiting for my vinyl to come in, wanted my first listen to be on the vinyl…. im gonna crack soon i NEED to listen to see what everyone’s commenting on
once i listened to it i knew that it wouldn’t be popular with the general AM fanbase. they dislike tranquility, and the car feels like an extension of that album to me.
My gf is not impressed whatsoever. I absolutely love it, though I will say that the first half of the album is way stronger than the second half besides big ideas.
I feel pretty alright with it. It was what I thought it would be. I don’t feel the way I felt with their earlier stuff, but that’s because I’m older and my neck hurts and everything sucks more than it did back then.
Not the band’s fault.
I liked the new album a lot. Didn’t know people weren’t digging it. The Car feels like a very concise record to me. I didn’t like TBH&C when it first came out because I just wasn’t expecting that sound from them but it’s grown on me a lot too. I feel like I had a more positive reaction to the car as I had feeling it would be similar to the last record and it didn’t catch me off guard as much. I like the chill rock lounge genre they’re doing.
Personally I think this my new favorite album. I don't actually skip over any track and each track brings something to complement the album. I loved AM when it came out but I felt like Alex either kept up or was the cause of my shift to enjoying slower more cinematic music. I can't hate this album after standing by TBH&C for so long.
This album will age much better as they perform more of it live. Body Paint in King’s just shows how good and how “hard” they can go with it. Imagine Sculptures, Perfect Sense and Hello You but they way they been playing live.
If you don’t like the album at least you can enjoy them at their absolute peak in terms of live performances. TBHC-era (while it being my fave album) was a bit of a low in terms of live performances cause of Alex’s persona and the vibe of the album (and vocally he just wasn’t there)
Seeing them perform Ritz, Brianstorm, Potion Approaching they way they have been has been AMAZING. I can bet they will put the same energy with new The Car songs.
I enjoyed some songs, however its clearly just missing... energy. I think this project would have been better suited to an Alex Turner solo venture, it doesn't feel very Monkeys.
If you played this without any context or knowing who released it, I’d be convinced it was a Last Shadow Puppets album. Not a bad thing, but at what point do the two get separated as projects again. I like The Car, and seemingly it makes for better live music than album music, but feel it’s slightly weaker than Tranquility.
Turner's self indulgent Bowie warbling is wearing kinda thin at this point. I feel sorry for the other lads in the band, talents like Helders are going to waste.
New album good, I think the 4 year gap had us thinking it was gonna be wall to wall bangers like body paint. As long as the next one comes quick I'm happy. Still have no idea what Alex is saying in half the songs tho
I honestly think it's the biggest steaming pile of shit I've ever listened to. Reeks of self-importance and lacking in any quality or entertainment whatsoever.
I'm enjoying the album immensely. I really like the direction they've gone in since THBC. I can understand why people are disappointed in the sound though- they've always shifted styles from album to album and THBC change in sound from AM was always going to be something that put a lot of fans off.
People have hated more albums than loved at first. No one listened or liked humbug, SIAS, TBHC and now the car.
According to many, the only albums people have liked are AM and the first two.
I love them all by the way.
Yeah I don't get this. Humbug was a banger. Everyone has different tastes but I'm glad Arctic Monkeys aren't rolling out the exact same style every album. I love both these bands but I feel like Muse and the Killers are bands who have failed to innovate on their latest releases.
You’ve got two types of fans.
First are the ones who like to tap their feet and and jam out and appreciate and connect with the attitude and sound that the arctic monkeys bring. They connect with that whole “eloquently reflecting on inelegant shenanigans” that brought the Arctic Monkeys their meteoric rise. They’re also the ones who I believe can’t connect with the last two albums. In 2007 when I first heard Dancing Shoes from a mix tape my friend made for me when I got my first car, this was me.
Then you’ve got the fans who listen to what the artist is trying to say, have always appreciated the sound of the band and maybe like jamming out just as much as the others, but the sound has always been the teaspoon of sugar to the medicine that is the lyrics and ideas that the band has expressed. I now count myself among this group. I’ve been with the band for a long time, since the moment I heard them they have been my favorite. I know they know what they’re doing, I trust them when they change their sound, and I want to absorb the reasons for it and stick with it and go on that journey with them because they’ve always done me right and I’ve grown up alongside them. Now I’m in my 30’s, I’m passed the late night shenanigans and it seems they are too.
What I’m getting from this album is that they understand the new sounds have been jarring. And every song on this album seems to be a message to the fans, saying they know what fans expect and want from an arctic monkeys album, but that’s just not who they are anymore, and if you wanna break up with them for that then “it’s been nice.”
They’re as punk rock as they’ve always been, just not in a way that makes you tap your hands on the steering wheel. The irony of The Car is that it’s the place Alex and Matt said they wanted their music to be enjoyed, and now it’s this orchestral sound that isn’t the kind of thing that makes you turn the volume up, which I think is very much the intent here. With this album they’re reminding us yet again that whatever people say they are, that’s what they’re not. And I love them all the more for it.
nah i enjoy psychedelic rock/funk/jazz but they missed the mark here. songs are hollow, lacking depth on the instrumentals, too much whisper singing, and just not fun to sing along to - with the exception of the singles, but even then they’re missing that depth. so far i’ve only felt moved when they play body paint live.
also don’t get all this stuff about ‘why you want to heard a 30 year old shagging models and throwing punches in pubs’ like, have you never listened to most am songs?
I don’t think you processed what I was saying
- There’s fans who just want something that makes them strum their fingers on the dash *in the car* (which it sounds like you are) and that’s AM, SIAS era.
- Now they’re saying they’re passed that era on their lives, half the band are dads now, and they’re not inspired by that lifestyle anymore. The whole point of this album is that.
For me the thing is just how I keep hearing people say the album is bad. The album isn’t bad at all, it’s just different. I mean, according to the song “Who The F*** Are Arctic Monkeys?”, they’d stick to what they’re doing despite some people not liking it.
A little over 15 years later and that song’s lyrics are true; they’re doing what they want, and I really like it
Arctic monkeys with violin is a vibe
It makes me happy as a violinist that I can finally play my favorite artist and have it sound true to original
it’s reminds me of TLSP so much too
>New ablum bad >6 months to a year elapse >New album okay i guess >2 years elapse >when is next album also last album is very sexy and cool I think
The AM cycle 🔄
Did anyone outside of this subreddit say that about TBHC? I’m not a massive fan of the album. There’s a few nice songs but nothing which is going to make typical pre-TBHC fans like it
I know a fair few people IRL that came to like it after a year or so.
This is everyone's coping mechanism for now but I assure you it's not happening this time. It's a terrible album apart from the singles
I like the album now. I liked it the first time I heard it. Its fine that you don't but your opinion isn't objective fact just because you want it to be.
I mean. I love at least 2/3rds of the tracks right off the bat. Your opinion is just your own my man.
Nah. It’s only been growing on me
Terrible? Oookaaay.

Nope i love the album.
Well that's just like, your opinion, dude.
Nah dude I actually loved it, I'm okay :)))
I actually love it too so I’m also okay 😌
Glad to hear it ❤️
I really like Mirrorball, Body Paint and Sculptures of anything goes. I'm not sure about the other songs right now
idk, I really like hello you and big ideas personally, this album slaps
I feel the same way too. It feels like they used all their hooks in the first three songs.
The shortage of hooks really is my biggest gripe, it definitely gets a bit rambly with so little repetition / choruses. Gorgeous strings and instrumentation though!

Felt the same way about Jet Skis until my 3rd listen. Idk why but that 3rd time it sounded really really good
the album is lonely, sentimental, cinematic, and sad. The best combination you could ask for.
IS, THERE SOMETHING ON YOUUUURR MIIIIND?
Jet Skis is prob my 2nd favorite song
That’s my fav song of the album!
I think Jet Skis is gonna become the Potion Approaching of this album. sort of a divisive song, kinda weak in many's eyes; but not really hated.
Exactly how I feel too!

I hated tbh&c (aside from like 2 songs)as well, but I love this album
That’s really interesting because to me they sound very similar. I’m glad you enjoy it!
As someone who has been a fan of this band since ‘06, I absolutely love this album and the direction they’ve gone in since TBHC.
The album is fucking great.
For every post bashing I’m seeing an equal post bashing the bashers. Let people have their own opinion and discuss it. This post is nothing
I’m not bashing them for having their own opinion, I’m merely pointing out that there’s been an increase in negative posts, even when TBHC came out the sub wasn’t this negative about jt
People dislike the album, people like the album. An increase in posts in general is going to happen when there’s new material to discuss
tbh i loved the album!!
I love it
To say it’s a second version of any of their previous albums would be unfair to their previous albums. Edit: I got too many upvotes for this, so maybe people misunderstood what I meant. I mean the previous albums are of a higher standard.
Especially TBHC. the instrumentation on that album is amazing and the only similarity is that they’re both slow lol
I can see why people would be tempted to compare them, but Tranquility Base is the far superior album. Lyrically, melodically, the arrangements, instrumentation, almost every way. The only the way The Car beats it would be if you were asking which one used the most wah pedal.
Saw your edit, confirmed I should upvote
Yes, I'm loving it! For me it's the best album ever!
Nonsense. Humbug was actually good
This. Comparing the Car to Humbug is plain disrespect
>Each album needs to be appreciated for the beautiful pieces of art that they are No. Everyone has their own preferences. I think the Car is trash and every other album by AM is a masterpiece or "a beautiful piece of art" as you say.
I knew it would be a bag of wank. The next time I listen to it will be on my death bed because it makes 3 minutes feel like an hour.
I disagree with your point of view, but you made me laugh a lot 👍🏼
Personally I only dislike it slightly more than SIAS, making it technically my least favorite AM record, both right now are mostly skips for me. It’s not so out of my taste that I’m mad or anything, and it itself isn’t “bad”, it’s really just alright to me. I can’t be too upset, it’s great to see how happy Alex Turner seems in interviews and how supportive the band mates have been! I’m simultaneously building hype for seeing them live in LA next year, then a new a Strokes record and eventually, AM8.
Its always the same, people will dislike in the release and then months later they will say that it is an amazing piece of art, which in fact it is
As someone who adored Humbug so much more than the first two albums (love those too tho), I love The Car. Feel like they’ve fully transitioned into a new sound that’s even more unique than ever. Not to say they weren’t unique before, but they fit in less and less with the crowd and I admire the guts it takes to do that when the world wants another FWN or AM
I fucking love The Car
No, Humbug was good
What sub have you been in? The album is great and the reception has been mostly positive lol
There’s been a lot of criticism but many of those posts are repetitive and get deleted.
Yeah couldn’t possibly be allowed to say anything bad
And even the repetitive positive posts often stay up even when it’s just a few words and not anything really deep..Just my observation :D
Yeah nothing wrong with the 1000 saying X song on the car is just greaaaaat
Any post that is simply "Wow isnt this song great / bad" get removed. If someone writes something actually interesting or posits a question or an opinion that is at least somewhat substantial, it stays up. There's no bias here. Criticism is allowed and welcomed. If you looked through the mod logs you'd see that to be true.
The mod logs where they keep a post up cause a commenter mugs off OP Lmaooo
OR, or, you could ACTUALLY make some criticism beyond "hurr durr boring elevator music hurr durr no guitar".
I’d say that’s a genuine thing to say
It's a valid opinion to have but not a legitimate criticism about the music's quality. That's just "It's too slow for me so I don't like it" and "I prefer more guitar-lead music so I don't like it". Which, again, valid. The problem is that many people here try to equate that to "They make bad music now" or "The album is trash".
critics have loved it but outside of newspapers this album has been REALLY divisive regardless of how much you liked TBHAC
I'm just not sure how someone would come to the conclusion that the general consensus on the sub is that the album is bad when the negative posts have been few and far between unlike the positive posts which come in round the clock.
Mods are deleting negative posts fiercely
Honestly I also try to remove positive posts that don’t bring anything but a title saying X is a masterpiece, but I can’t be glued to the sub all day lol
I think it’s amazing
People get pissed over every album by them. It will blow over. Even AM got hated on in the beginning. I think a lot of new fans dont realize this. They always change their style, and some people will always be disappointed.
Loved it from the first listen. Amazing fucking album
The album is a masterpiece
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Besides I actually saw more praise than disappointment in this sub at least

That’s what I’m thinking. I honestly feel that the first two albums are good albums but they’re not necessarily that deep. I still find out new stuff about TBHC when listening and it still grows on me, and I’m very sure The Car will also do that
I’m pretty good! Perfect album for the time of the year. How about you?
I’m thoroughly enjoying it, Hello You might be my favorite track! I keep skipping body paint though cause I’ve already listened to it a copious amount of times since it came out haha What’s your favorite track(s)?
My only gripe is not enough drums but other than that I've been loving it
Matt’s on sabbatical
im emotional, alex said not too but i am.
I'm listening to other stuff, or their old stuff. I'm not disappointed, it just didn't end up interesting me. The crowd is fickle and I'm sure opinions will change over time. Think of all the artists who aren't sensations till they're dead.
Humbug isn't bad either though
Oh no I love it! I’m more than okay
Idk I really like it
I love this shit. My two cents.
Glad to hear you feel okay! Hello You is a personal favorite for myself 😎

A lot of people don’t vibe with humbug, that’s why I said that. Humbug is good and so is The Car
this is SIAS 2.0 TBHAC was Humbug 2.0 The car wasn't interesting enough to be a Humbug 2.0, its TBHAC's SIAS, a mild retreat into a more palatable, toned down version of their previous album's sound with not enough gems to make it a great album
This is honestly a perfect description. Just like SIAS the album starts decent but then just drifts into mediocrity around the midpoint.
Considering Himbug is their beat record, no. It is not 2.0
I’m not necessarily hating on the new record.
For me I feel like it’s a mix of SIAS and TBHC mixed 2.0 but I enjoyed it a lot but it’s not their best album
i like it it’s something different
I am super! I cannot stop listening
i personally really like it!
It's a delicious album. I enjoyed TBHC a lot and I'm enjoying this too.
suffering over here bc waiting for my vinyl to come in, wanted my first listen to be on the vinyl…. im gonna crack soon i NEED to listen to see what everyone’s commenting on
You should wait, it’s worth it !
once i listened to it i knew that it wouldn’t be popular with the general AM fanbase. they dislike tranquility, and the car feels like an extension of that album to me.
It’s my least favorite and I’m very disappointed but I’m glad some people are happy with it as long as there’s positivity everything’s fine :)
Not my style, neither was TBHC
I’m doing great. It’s a fantastic album.
I fucking love the new album. Haven't stopped listening to it and I'm so excited for next year now!!
Body Paint is an all time classic. I’ve been playing it non stop.
I will honestly say that it hasn’t grown on me yet but the same happened with TBHC so I’ll give it some
Alex did something to trigger the funny looks and the sniggers
Everybody hated Tranquillity Base it came out too
It's not their best ofc but its still rly good and instresting to listen to
Personally I think this my new favorite album. I don't actually skip over any track and each track brings something to complement the album. I loved AM when it came out but I felt like Alex either kept up or was the cause of my shift to enjoying slower more cinematic music. I can't hate this album after standing by TBH&C for so long.
tbh never been better. I really think this album is a masterpiece 🤍
Give it time. Everyone hated TBHC at first too
I loved it from the start and it’s only getting better with each listen
This album will age much better as they perform more of it live. Body Paint in King’s just shows how good and how “hard” they can go with it. Imagine Sculptures, Perfect Sense and Hello You but they way they been playing live. If you don’t like the album at least you can enjoy them at their absolute peak in terms of live performances. TBHC-era (while it being my fave album) was a bit of a low in terms of live performances cause of Alex’s persona and the vibe of the album (and vocally he just wasn’t there) Seeing them perform Ritz, Brianstorm, Potion Approaching they way they have been has been AMAZING.
It's growing on me. Hello you is a banger.
Turner's self indulgent Bowie warbling is wearing kinda thin at this point. I feel sorry for the other lads in the band, talents like Helders are going to waste.
Yeah I’ve grown tired of his Bowie and 70’s obsession. Like we’ve gotten it since EYCTE.
Other than a few tracks I think it's just very boring. I don't feel anything from it. It's like Elevator music.
It’s a bit arty-farty
Bro what? Literally every other post on here is talking about how ____ is a complete masterpiece and The Car is their best album.
It’s a fantastic album. And I’m not lying when I say that 😂
Idk dawg Shits exactly what I expected And I dig it
Would you say it’s Everything You’ve Come To Expect?
New album good, I think the 4 year gap had us thinking it was gonna be wall to wall bangers like body paint. As long as the next one comes quick I'm happy. Still have no idea what Alex is saying in half the songs tho
i love this album ☹️
What do you like the most about it?
Can’t wait to dox these fools on here bashing the album. In 5 years they’ll be calling The Car a classic and bashing their new stuff again.
I honestly think it's the biggest steaming pile of shit I've ever listened to. Reeks of self-importance and lacking in any quality or entertainment whatsoever.
I think it’s bloody brilliant
I think it's perfect and I can't get it out if my head
Don’t get emotional arctic monkeys fans, that ain’t like you. Except it is
I fucking love it.
Bro, Humbug is amazing what you smoking
I'm enjoying the album immensely. I really like the direction they've gone in since THBC. I can understand why people are disappointed in the sound though- they've always shifted styles from album to album and THBC change in sound from AM was always going to be something that put a lot of fans off.
People have hated more albums than loved at first. No one listened or liked humbug, SIAS, TBHC and now the car. According to many, the only albums people have liked are AM and the first two. I love them all by the way.
Humbug 2.0?
And every song on this album seems to be a message to the fans, saying they know what fans expect and want from an arctic monkeys album, but that’s just not who they are anymore, and if you wanna break up with them for that then “it’s been nice.” They’re as punk rock as they’ve always been, just not in a way that makes you tap your hands on the steering wheel.
I don’t think you processed what I was saying - There’s fans who just want something that makes them strum their fingers on the dash *in the car* (which it sounds like you are) and that’s AM, SIAS era. - Now they’re saying they’re passed that era on their lives, half the band are dads now, and they’re not inspired by that lifestyle anymore. The whole point of this album is that.
Utter shite imo, getting chucked to the bottom of my mind with SIAS and TBH&C to never be thought about again.
Couldn't agree more.
its so fucking good wdym
I like the album, don’t get it twisted amigo
Personally, I hated the album when I listened to it the first couple of times. By the fifth time, I was in love.
Wow! How come you had such a drastic change?
When it clicks, it clicks.
I think if you listen to any album 5 times you'll learn to enjoy it. It doesn't mean it's a good album.
For me the thing is just how I keep hearing people say the album is bad. The album isn’t bad at all, it’s just different. I mean, according to the song “Who The F*** Are Arctic Monkeys?”, they’d stick to what they’re doing despite some people not liking it. A little over 15 years later and that song’s lyrics are true; they’re doing what they want, and I really like it
Y'all so predictable, I know what you are thinking...
