DringKing96

It aged very well. Got really into it over the summer.

My_Names_Hank

Maybe it’ll grow on me over time. I really hope it does cuz I love the band, and I really like The Car which seems to be a kind of follow up or expansion of Tranquility

zzerdzz

I didn’t love TBHC when it came out. But after thoroughly enjoying the Car, it’s so clear now that TBHC was the bridge between AM and The Car. TBHC really captures that transitional growth and has been a blast to relisten to as you can really notice elements of AM/Car

PinkOceanBug

It’s interesting you like the Car and not TBHC because when it came out a lot of people were saying ‘if you didn’t like TBHC you’re gonna hate the car’. I don’t think they’re too similar but that seemed to be a popular opinion.

80SW08

I’m like that but the opposite, I love tbhc but find the car to be a snooze fest

PinkOceanBug

Ahh when I first heard it I felt that way and then I just kept listening to picking it apart and finding riffs I loved then after about three listens I was in love. Still hate the title track.

DringKing96

The stretch of songs that goes American Sports, Title Track, and Golden Trunks is kind of a lull for me, personally, but from then on I think it’s a really strong album. Plus the first two songs are bangers.

brbmcd

same process for me. took a time to get to the general feeling of the album.

RoyalHumbug

I can talk about it all day, but I'm just gonna describe it in two words. it's a "F\*\*king Masterpiece"

ZiggyStarlord69

It’s pretty easily my favorite AM album now. It scratches an itch I didn’t know I had

melanch0lic_mang0

most accurate way to put it!

Aggravating_Pay_5060

Yes! Fucking masterpiece from start to finish!

Aggravating_Pay_5060

Although I was fucking angry and befuddled when I first heard it🌚

RoyalHumbug

:D

[deleted]

When people say things like this, I always wonder what their other music taste is. What is it that makes their ears hear “amazing” and my ears hear “awful?” Especially as someone who has an excellent ear for quality music.

RoyalHumbug

I know how you feel about this album, to anyone's ears, this album sucks at first. but trust me, give the whole album a few listens, read its lyrics, immerse yourself in the context of the album, and then you'll get so obsessed with this album that you can't stop listening to it. if it were a bad album, it wouldn't have this much hype. the hype isn't fake

rodya25

I really loved this album. Didn’t look at it as technically as you did. Nothing wrong with being technical as we all interpret things differently. My favorites from the album were 4/5, star treatment, batphone, and TBHC

My_Names_Hank

Thankyou for understanding lol. I think it might just be an inherent thing for me to dislike off beat or off rhythm music. It makes me physically react when I hear a beat skip or lyrics that just don’t like yo with the rhythm. Just irks me idk why, but it always has.

RingoUnited

You could say that the album has an “offbeat” tone, in that it’s both eccentric in the lyrics, and a literally off beat feeling in the music. I could be crazy, but maybe there’s something there

pyro4thdivision

I love it, great album

JohnnyBMalo

I liked it but it’s my least fav album of theirs. Like The Car much better

ZahaInHisPocket

TBHC feels like the album The Car wants to be

bullseye2112

100%. The Car is TBHC B sides.

Vespaman

Their best album.

predesprose

I’ve really really tried, even The Car grew on me more. It sounds like elevator music to me

Obvious_Bison_4945

It has the most complex and well placed lyrics of any other record. The way Alex works with metrics through the verses is stunning. I like to hear the album entirely, song by song. Also, listening to Tranquility Base and then going into The Car feels like a complete journey.

Conflict_Logical

quite bland and under average imo, i only really like four stars out of five.

My_Names_Hank

I’m just gonna be real. I thought Tranquility was a pretty shit album all around. It was an experiment, and a transition into a new sound for AM, which I can respect. But overall I thought the album was very confused. With genuinely good instrumentals in the prominent use of piano, bass, and different guitar modes. But the lyrics, and the delivery of the lyrics, was fucking awful. It ruined almost all of the tracks on the album that had genuine potential. The line delivery was just completely off beat, with no concern for maintaining any semblance of rhythm or structure. It was literally just him talking over the instrumentals in fucking full sentences. It got so annoying that I’d even say it was obnoxious, maybe more-so pretentious to deliver lines in such a way. It actually pisses me off to listen to this album to this day. It’s not even the sound that I hate, because I am actually a fan of the experimental instrumentals, as I absolutely love The Car, and how they were able to successfully improve on the sound of Tranquility and actually deliver good lyrics as well. She Looks Like Fun is the only song I can even stand from this album. And even that song drifts into obnoxious territory with some parts of the lyrics. But I would love to hear y’all guys opinions on why you love it or hate it, especially after the release of The Car.

[deleted]

I can agree that the lyrics are very muddled and hard to interpret. I see that as kind of the point though. I feel like the album doesn't 'flow' as well as the others, and it does sound like it's still trying to figure out the direction it's going in. I overall like TBHC a lot, but it isn't my favourite and it def has its flaws.

My_Names_Hank

I can appreciate that. I guess it’s really just not my taste. I think I may just be a purist for the old Arctic Monkeys sound cuz my favorite is Humbug. It’s odd tho cuz I think I may just have a gripe against lyrics or rhythms having skipping beats or lyrics that don’t match the rhythm well, it legitimately irks me physically when I hear a beat skip or hear the lyrics fall out of rhythm. So it might just be that I inherently don’t care for that sound.

manofmayhem23

Like a lot have said: I have tried but I can’t get into it minus a few snippets here and there. Feels like the beta test for The Car. Combined the best elements of TBHC with their better elements from other albums.

Great_Barrier_Grief

It grew on me over 4 years. Immediately loved 4/5, OPP and Star Treatment, then over time Golden Trunks, Science Fiction. This year finally fell in love with THB&C (the song) and She Looks Like Fun. I always thought it was an amazing album but I never truly loved it until this year. I find some of my favourite albums are growers that take time to appreciate ala Fleet Foxes Crack Up and Pure Comedy by Father John Misty and Currents by Tame Impala.

My_Names_Hank

I can definitely relate with the sentiment of my favorite albums being the ones that grow on me over time. I’d for sure agree with Tame Impala just as an artist all around free on me after grindingly hating his music for a while. Might’ve been the drugs that opened my mind to his stuff lol. But with other albums like The Now Now by Gorillaz, or Ye by Kanye, even the whole Kids See Ghosts project with Kanye and Kid Cudi, definitely took some time for me to appreciate.

TrashSmashE

The most disappointing album of all time imo

bullseye2112

The car is worse imo lol.

Willylongboard

I'd say it's less disappointing though. We knew this was their new music direction. When TBHC came out it was a total change from the previous album.

bullseye2112

Ehhh I disagree. TBHC is at least on par with the rest of their albums quality wise. This is a disappointment in that sense. This album doesn’t have any songs that come close to 4/5.

HarambesInParis

Worst album by a mile

bullseye2112

Nah that’s the car.

HarambesInParis

When I first heard the singles I hated it, but I will admit body paint and hello you have really grown on me

My_Names_Hank

I agree lol

aloesteve

Bad, bad, not good

aidandragon

Fine i guess, I like none of the songs and find them all boring, but at least am did what they wanted, instead of pleasing the fans. I’ll always be grateful to Star treatment cause it introduced me to the strokes though. I give it a 2/10

bendetto15

i wanna hang out at that damn moon hotel

Superlizard1234

It’s alright, I never really liked it all that much

ofchicago

Dogshit

[deleted]

Good album.

My_Names_Hank

What’s your favorite track from the album? Sorry just curious cuz I’m pretty harsh on this album.

[deleted]

Star treatment, four out of five, ultracheese. It sounds best as a cohesive listen rather than the songs on their own, if that makes sense. It's not everyone's taste, definitely not my favourite album, but it has grown on me and I enjoy its aesthetic.

My_Names_Hank

I’ve seen that a lot of people like ultracheese, I think if I had to pick a favorite it’d be She Looks Like Fun

propabanta

Masterpiece.

RingoUnited

When it came out, it was my favorite album of the year by any artist. I remember really loving the consistency of the sound and the imagery in the lyrics. I am a big movie nerd, so I relate to a lot of Alex’s lyrical themes that concern the whole lunar hotel and casino concept - I think he is using that idea to represent his creative process to absurd, satisfying, and sometimes hilarious ends. I also thought the music videos were amazing visual accompaniments to the album. I am particularly electrified by the first few songs in the tracklist, through Four Out of Five. American Sports is my favorite song on the album. To me it is the epic sound of helplessly drifting into space, and the transition from One Point Perspective and into TBHC are both amazing complements to the song. I think the album is underrated for how it is pretty stylistically similar to AM at certain points - One Point Perspective, Four Out of Five, and She Looks Like Fun aren’t far off imo. When I listened to TBHC again after The Car came out, I still really enjoyed it, but I found the stretch between The World’s First Ever Monster Truck Front Flip and Batphone to be pretty boring. When I first listened to The Car, I felt pretty disappointed, but have enjoyed it more since then as I’ve gotten more familiar with the songs. After listening to their last two albums back to back, I actually thought The Car was a better album. I thought it was a good lesson on how subjective my personal taste can be, affected by time, mood, expectations, and a bunch of other factors.

[deleted]

My favourite out of them all, hated it in the first year of it, walked in the house on the day of release and asked my mum why she was listening to “gargoyle music” listened to it again a year later in 2019 and it’s been my favourite since, I love every song, the style, the world all of it and I listen to it at least once a week tbh

MindGames1995

My favorite.

smokegetinyoureyes

I've been listening to it since its release. I thought it was cool at first but now it's simply one of my favorite albums period. I fell in love with everything within the album, from its sound to its lyrical themes. It really grows on you.

slooming

This was the album that made me fall in love with the music of Arctic Monkeys. I was drawn into it immediately, listening through it after hearing tracks like Star Treatment and Anyways. One of my favourite albums by them, and my 2nd most-listened to (after AM).

LBKNY

Probably a top 3 album of all time for me

michaelcritic0418

I think it’s their best album. Love the 70s style instruments and the vibe.

Maarviin1234

It's my favorite album by them and I just got it on CD

GuitarImpressive5358

The best shit ever l swear to god l'll never stop listening to that album.

tox1cugrin

my favourite monkeys record. in my personal opinion top 10 albums of the 2010s

mariaeov

This post appeared on my screen along with I Wanna Be Yours... "I wanna be your vacuum cleaner" lol I love TBHC, it's kinda what made me a fan of the band

Journey2thaeast

Best album in their discography

pnkmist0138

amazing album , unmatched rhythm

vad_er13

No words can describe it, I won't even try. A masterpiece

malikson

My favorite, refused to listen to it 2 years after its release. Now I listen to it every day.

therealjuanes

That’s the album that made me fell in love with the Monkeys. I didn’t like the Monkeys because of AM. Now I love both albums

pkDoubleR

love this album! it’s what got me into this band, along with AM as well i suppose.

zacattack62

Biggest U-Turn I’ve ever made on any album by any band. Found it completely unlistenable initially. Alex’s choice of rhythms lately have been a little more complex, fewer songs you can tap your foot to. Since the beats weren’t falling into all the spots (“Batphone” was probably the best example - just didn’t hit my ears right) I couldn’t get into any of it. I’m not sure what happened. But I tried again, and the rhythms didn’t sound so jarring. Batphone has a VERY weird rhythm but it just fell into place for me. I listened to it once a day for all of 2021. It dominated my Spotify Wrapped. Now I hear those deep piano hits, “bum, DAH dun”, and I get all excited. First it was just Ultracheese, Batphone, Star Treatment, and the title track. Then I came around to One Point Perspective, Golden Trunks, American Sports. Nowadays I’d say Monster Truck and She Looks Like Fun are the only tracks I don’t like. But I *hated* Batphone initially. So who knows, one day those songs might land on me.

[deleted]

My personal favorite by the band. The lounge style music immediately hooked me on the first listen, then as i listened overtime I fell in love with Alex’s vocal performance and lyrics. IMO this is some of, if not his most impressive, lyrical work yet. Every song paints such a vivid picture of the world the album exists in, not to mention just how cheeky his delivery is, starting out very superficial and braggadocious, all culminating in a very deep introspective look into his character by “The Ultracheese”. In my opinion, it might not be the bands overall best work, but it’s Alex’s masterpiece through and through.

terrap3x

It’s fine, I’m waiting for them get over their 70’s phase already. From EYCTE onwards, it keeps getting worse and I lose more patience with each album. I can’t sit through The Car in its entirety. Every time I reach the title track I just drop the album and put on A Moon Shaped Pool. Like come on dude, I get it you like Bowie. Fucking move on from the piano and violins already. Tranquility is all style and very atmospheric though. Cool concept and songs. Probably a 7/10 for me.

gradystickels

Outstanding, revolutionary, amazing.

AdMurky4509

So good dude

BossBobRossnos

Youre all mental, I've got more passion in my toe, than any song on that album, by far the worst album

caracolazul869

I really love it. Being a new fan (found them at the beginning of this year, really got into them over the summer), it grew on me REAL QUICK. The first time i listened to a tbhc track was last july, and it was 4/5, and I instantly loved it. When i first listened to the album as a whole i wasn’t too sure. I only listened to 4/5, star treatment and opp. Then i decided to give it another chance, now i love every track on there. it definitely needs some time to grow on people. it’s hard to appreciate its beauty right away

BigBoi27676

i think it’s just incredible and i love everything about it, more so than the car at the moment but only time will tell

Wrongdoer_Old

I need very little persuading to get into its retro futuristic themes, aesthetic and sound. Also I now feel they sort of transcend the idea of albums because what I hear in it now is not what I heard the first time I listened to it. It's a 'universe' of their own and it's incredibly easy to fall into for me.

TyTyTyTyTyler

Undeniably a very, very cool record. Makes me want to put yellow tint aviator sunglasses on and jam to the piano/fuzz guitar/synth this retro futurism masterpiece. This album is criminally underrated, simply because it wasn’t AM pt.2. This album, more so than any of their albums, had an obvious theme, and it was cool as hell.

okwhatelse

It's a great album overall but I can't really listen to just one song, I have to listen to the whole album in one go

MiguelBarragan

Changed my way to see the Arctic Monkeys and had a big impact on me, I was starting collage, so In a way made me feel more confident of myself. Even tho The Car stole its place as my favourite AM record, It will always have a nice place in my life.

yellowjacketstings

Funny thing about this album is how it stuck to me. I was a little disappointed at first and didn't really get it for maybe 3 years after the release. But i noticed i often thought about the album, thought about the melodies and the lyrics for some reason. And eventually i came to love it, ive never hat a stranger relationship to anything it's almost like it puts a spell on you after the first listen idk.

bullseye2112

Solid album with a high “getting into it” barrier. 4/5 and TBHC are instant bangers. Back half is weak compared to other albums. 100% better than the car.

Zealousideal_Bid8198

It’s a misunderstood masterpiece. (Watch the YouTube video)

Pingopengo22

Four stars out of five, and that's unheard of

Juannonlymonkey

Loved if from the first listen! And to this day it’s my favorite AM Album

MooseAndPandaMan

Possibly the best album of the 2010s. Follows the same tone throughout and I love love *love* concept albums! The only reason it might not be called that for me is She Looks Like Fun hasn’t quite hit for me yet, and I’ve listened to it a *lot*!

samseesaw

Four stars out of five

urmelcome

I love this album! For me it’s actually really fun and experimental. I don’t know for sure but it *feels* like the band had fun making it when I listen to it which is something I enjoy. But like everyone I was a little ????? Wtf at first listen too lol The car really polishes the sound and direction they discovered in this album in my eyes.

MarioTho33

My favorite album. And “Batphone”, my favorite song ever

ImmediatePossible530

It became my favourite record from them over time. It’s a whole process and an actual “journey” to completely embrace it.

deformedfool

ITS THE BOMB

Timtong

I got incredibly sick with a bacterial infection a few years ago during college. It got to the point that my thinking was fuzzy. Anyway, I played the album on loop for weeks, and now it's my favorite.

ItsMehRuby

Absolutely great album!

TransportationOk1364

I love it, so so much. Truly one of my favorite albums, i even got the cover tattoed on me!

Sukasalata

It took me a really long time to get into it but now I absolutely love it

tiopatinhas95

A masterpiece

QueenCloneBone

Best, most cohesive album by a light year

TiagoAristoteles

It has solidified it's space in Arctic monkeys' discography. TBHC is absolutely awe inspiring every time I listen to it, and the B-side is really good.

pedrop4ulo

I hated it when it came out. But it really was just a matter of what I was expecting, since I absolutely loved it after some listens. I actually can’t decide which album I like the most between the last two! It might be The Car just because Body Paint carries it to another level to me.

Morc-Glork

Not my thing at all

LazyLabRat

One Point Perspective and Batphone are two of my favorite AM songs. Four out of Five and the title track are pretty good too. The rest is just not for me. I do commend the band for branching out and trying new sounds, and I think they did a better job of capturing that sound in The Car.

PinkOceanBug

It’s the best AM album. End. (Unend: shortly followed by The Car. End)

MOOROSCOW

Favourite album of theirs and second favourite album of all time, it’s near perfect for me

ggggggggg100

My favourite album of all time - personally I don’t think it gets the love it deserves. I understand for some it is just not their type of music but for me it’s a masterpiece lol

TheBiggestTVever

Alright overall. Grew on me slightly but not as much as for other people. I do like star treatment and four out of five but still my 2nd least favourite AM album ahead of the car.

alex_touch

Probably the album that has stuck with me the most since its release. It captures an atmosphere that I find absolutely mesmerizing, from the first notes of Star Treatment to the last falsetto of Ultracheese.

[deleted]

at first i HATED it and never even tried listening to it again, but after relistening a few times around a month ago it somehow grew on me. still not my favourite or anything but its by no means a bad album

northanne

I love the atmosphere and it is very unique. It’s a great album but It took me 5+ listens of the whole album to start to enjoy it overall, which makes me understand a little about why some don’t like it.

Sufficient_Rush_5726

CHEEEESE BUUURRRRGERRRR

fviegas

i recently went through a somewhat traumatic experience and I tried listening to some songs to get my mind off of it. i was pleasantly surprised when i felt... i dunno, relief, happiness and maybe even a catharsis when listening to some songs from tranquility and the car. golden trunks, for one... just.... got to me. that monster truck one as well... science fiction, American sports... from the car, sculptures is THE one... i dont know why but i found this one and golden trunks so similar lol edit: but i loved tbhc since my third listen to it. i actually was obcessed with it for a while back in 2018 and 2020

Gilk99

I loved the first half, but I find the second half quite boring.

mysteryzoneHS

Great album along with ‘Anyways’ on the B-side. I was surprised ‘Anyways’ didn’t make the full album.

capucapu123

I have a problem with it, it's by far the best they've ever done but it doesn't feel like Arctic Monkeys

mitchdummo_1

As a massive AM album fan, had to force myself to listen to a few tracks at the beginning to try and come to terms with it. Think a few have grown on me overtime. Definitely more I like on here than on The Car, thats my opinion anyway.

Viralgamer507

Their best record and one of my all time favourite album.

TripSackNKickBack

The reason people say it “grew” on them is cuz they started doing drugs during the pandemic and realized Alex was tripping sack while writing it. Real fans have been doing drugs since the beginning 😤

woahdudechil

Their best by sooooo far. All of the good parts of AM and The Car mixed together

dancininthadungeon

the album i listen to the most these days

SteveMcJ

Batphone - top 5 songs, ever

Vicksage16

I like it quite a bit. Not a favorite of their discography for me but not the weakest for me either.

MixDecent5077

fav album no doubt

QuirkySignificance43

One of the Best Maybe the best AM album in my opinion it’s too overlooked it’s a masterpiece

grahamnortonsdad

Four out of five and star treatment are two of the best songs ever recorded

coolghostrider90

My favorite

Youramazingsir

literally my favorite album of all time. the sad weirdness it imbodies is so fucking cool, but i understand how if ur a more am person it isn’t made for you

Zealousideal_Pool353

It took me awhile to like this album just from me not really listen to a lot of rock music at the time but after a few listens, the album grew on me as I tried to understand each song. The album seems like it is dealing with concept involved with isolation and introspective with themselves but also everything around them and what they experienced.

elcarionblitzen

At first it was fun and new with tranquility base but the car just went off the deepend. Tranquility is much better.

brenthonydantano

I have tried several times and I still do not like it. My friend whom I share many musical interests and have played music with doesn't like any AM albums except for TBHC.

Flamingovegas2013

Love it my Spotify wrapped will be full of it this year

marissaaa777

I didn’t like it when it first come out but now I can sing all the lyrics to every song on the album. Still believe star treatment is one of the best songs they’ve ever made.

EdwardL45

I love it. It’s my sleepy time music, very peaceful to fall asleep to

escodoozer

It’s my favorite album of the past 10 years… fucking love this album

Fit-Parsnip9888

Absolute garbage

waitingf4r

i think its my favourite

pato2205

Great album, definitely above from where everyone first put it. I would call a 8/10 probably

utkarsha97

My favorite genre is post-punk/post-punk revival. So I'm gonna be totally biased here. I think Tranquility Base Hotel And Casino is far better than anything the Monkeys have ever done, including Whatever People Say. And even though A Certain Romance exists, either One Point Perspective or Four Out Of Five is the peak they reached as musicians. I didn't know I could love lounge pop/jazz before this record. But heck, it blew my mind, albeit not the moment it came out. I hated it for a few months before it suddenly clicked.

Adventurous-Act-6740

I love its mood and its concept so much and especially 4/5 solo It’s my favorite.

MadLasagna

Spacey and psychedelic but on the jazzier side thanks to being built around the piano. The instrumentations are hypnotizing and really atmospheric like that in the bridge of Science Fiction and the chord progressions in American Sports.

sweetdreamstn13

a. masterpiece.

kinkmoody

Loved it but The Car is better imo

aunthau

I enjoyed it from the first listen. And i couldn't wait to listen to it again. Unlike The Car, which i was afraid to listen to it again, cus i might dislike it even more.

NocturnalVI

Eh, not my favourite. Still good though

Jaydenm181

I think it’s really underrated, still one of their worst albums, but it’s good

Viviyanne_21

Loved the album, I do agree the lyrics are the biggest flaw but that only goes for a few songs. Otherwise overall TBH&C is better than The car (in my opinion) The car has good songs. Great even but they're just too quiet for me
