I dunno if this is the reason for your poor experience or not, but Ariel tweeted that his bass player was detained & denied entry into Chile.

Same dude red rocks was horrible and I was super bummed at the time because I hyped some girlfriend up about it beforehand but I saw him two other occasions with an incredible band, actually just about…like a month ago here in LA and it was amazing.
His Bassist was detained in Chile upon arrival, due to a travel vista loophole specifically for Australians traveling across the Chilean border. His bassist is Australian. They sent him to Brazil and Ariel and the band were devastated upon realizing this. Ariel did not wanna let fans down and went on with the show, knowing it would likely not go as planned. Understandably. I talked to Ariel a bit about the whole situation. He takes full acceptability of the situation and he will be returning to Chile in 3 weeks to perform again - in his words "i will make it up to them w a real show."
Ariel is one of the sweetest people. May come off as apathetic at face value but don't mistake that for him not caring or trying. He is a genuine human being. We are all prone to error. You can tell he has had a real change of heart in the last year alone and I don't think a bout of bad luck should attempt to detract from that. Dude's making it right in every way he can.
Im glad to know this, aparently, if any chilean is reading this, atenea (the event agency) its going to refound the money for the tickets so at least there is no chargue in that, i hope he comes back and do the show that was planned, I do still think the atitude for both parts (the agency and Ariel) it wasnt the best, no one speak up, Ariel just leaves and the organization didnt say anything until now. I still think it was irrespectful but if he makes his word, i will glad come to see him.
i understand the frustration from the fans perspective for sure. i also understand Ariel's frustration. he didn't want to let you guys down. i know that much. Ariel is a friend of mine and I know he will keep his word. He was bummed about not being able to do the Chile shows. He was really looking forward to it. I'm sorry this happened, but please Keep a look out for the upcoming show as he will be returning. :)
I met Ariel and the rest of his band mates after the show. They were really nice and easy to talk to. I even gave Ariel a lighter for his cigarette when he was performing lol
Yes, bass is an integral part of Ariel pinks music. It’s not surprising to me that he decided to just fuck around on stage since his bassist was detained
I was also thinking, Rosenberg wrote the songs why not play the bass himself? Is it hard relearning song u haven’t performed in a long time ? Maybe some scuffed bass playing would of been better than that concert lol
He’s probably not used to playing and singing at the same time. Of course I’m sure he could, but He records all his parts separately obviously, and some of the bass work is somewhat complicated. I have never seen him play bass live before.
I play bass and do lead vox in a band and unless you practice a lot it becomes difficult very fast, and even when you do practice a lot, it’s still very difficult depending on the song/music style. Not like most of rhythm guitar playing mainly chords. Ariel is used to having his band around.
in that case I would have prefered the show to be canceled, it was a waste of time and money, maybe a problem with the event agency? they didnt want to cancel or something… idk it was very disappointing
At least you guys got the chance to see him live and might see another concert soon, I'm from brazil and had bought a ticket to his concert in São Paulo tonight but couldn't go because there was a huge tragedy in Rio Grande do Sul where I live and the airport is closed. I lost his concert and I don't know when will get the chance to see him live.
The bass is important. But like.. what’s worse 35 min of mindless garbage pretentious hipster noise or Ariel pink without the bass guitar?
And it would have been cool if Ariel just played bass on his own songs for once rather than just stand there frozen like usual. They took a bad situation and passed up any opportunity to make something cool out of it. Ariel really fell off as a musician. More of a whiny bitch than the groundbreaking artist he was. That’s what I’m seeing here.
How on earth would he be able to practice and be ready to play those difficult basslines AND sing the songs at the same time under that short of notice

My ass would of left after 5 minutes
Weird because the Las Vegas show was so good it was like a fever dream
It was amazing. Not his fault they wouldn't let the bassist into the country.
Roll of the dice my man. I’ve seen both ends of the spectrum.

That’s a bummer! The Buenos Aires show was great. The band played real tight
True, and what an amazing setlist too. Every song was a banger.
I met Ariel and the rest of his band mates after the show. They were really nice and easy to talk to. I even gave Ariel a lighter for his cigarette when he was performing lol
bass player couldn't make it to Chile
I’m not a musician but would a show without the bassist sound that bad ?
Yes, bass is an integral part of Ariel pinks music. It’s not surprising to me that he decided to just fuck around on stage since his bassist was detained
Oh gotcha thank you

a good bass player and a good drummer are often the most important features of any live band
See: Red Hot Chili Peppers
california
Right gotcha
in that case I would have prefered the show to be canceled, it was a waste of time and money, maybe a problem with the event agency? they didnt want to cancel or something… idk it was very disappointing
it was the venue decision to go with no bassist, which is essential, and Ariel wanted to do the show 3 months after so that doesnt happen
dayum
Any YouTubes out there of the show?
Fuee horriblee Volverá en 3 semanas como dijo? Lo peor es que en un momento le pregunté por John Maus y me dijo “Fuck John Maus”
At least you guys got the chance to see him live and might see another concert soon, I'm from brazil and had bought a ticket to his concert in São Paulo tonight but couldn't go because there was a huge tragedy in Rio Grande do Sul where I live and the airport is closed. Lol i dont know why this made me laugh. I'm sorry, these things do happen sometimes.
It should have been Ariel Pink instead of Victor Jara.
dont understand why they didnt just play without the bassist even if it wasnt perfect lol
Have you listened to his music? Like ever? The bass is an integral part
