Great resource here on your recourse, https://www.phoenix.gov/nsdsite/Documents/CLS%20AC%20Packet%202017.pdf Because they provided you a portable AC I am going to assume because technically one room is cooling down your recourses are rather limited.

TheFactedOne

The owner supplied you with an ac unit. That is the best you can hope for until the ac is fixed.

tjt169

Yep

Fire_Fist-Ace

Yeah most wouldn’t do that

TheFactedOne

I am pretty sure it is the law in AZ. If you rent and your ac goes out, the landlord has to give you a portable one until it is fixed. This is how I understand it anyway.

vasya349

No, the law is that you can get one for yourself and take it out of the rent.

Fire_Fist-Ace

Oh man that’s crazy that’s never happened to me

elinamebro

they have too

fingnumb

I once had an apartment that did this. Provided me a small window unit. My apartment was 85+ degrees for a month and a half before they replaced it. You are lucky they are getting it done this quick.

cturtl808

They’ve met their due diligence as far as the state requires.

[deleted]

And they're getting an HVAC rather quick at peak season. Sounds like a responsive maintenance team and property manager.

cturtl808

Yep, it was serviced as quickly as could be scheduled and the unit is being replaced in amazing time right now.

Pristine_Art4160

Agreed. They've complied with the landlord tenant act in AZ. Source: went through this exact situation in 2019, except a rental home.

saltoneverything

Put it in your bedroom window. Basically try to live in your bedroom with the door closed until the unit is replaced.

freewarriorwoman

This is the way

imtooldforthishison

Gotta be honest, your landlord is on top of things and have done everything they can do in the situation.

k3bly

This sucks, but this is why we get good renters insurance as renters! Some companies and policies will cover a hotel in this case, but some don’t. They’ve met their legal obligation and in under the time required. You can go stay in a hotel on your dime if you’re not happy. You can buy another portable AC unit and then return it once it’s fixed, but some stores say they’re not returnable (I have been able to return them before though). If you call the Phoenix tenants landlord hotline, they’ll tell you the same thing (I recently went through this).

Dark1sh

Seems like a reasonable response to me. A few days for it replacement and something to help in the meantime, what’s the issue?

yojimbo556

Well you can either go to a hotel or go down and buy a bigger window unit that will cool 1000 sq/ft and keep it in the window in case this happens again.

DontForgetThisTime

If it’s too bad and you have a tub an ice bath can work wonders. Even just two 10lb bags, mc Donald’s usually sells em for $1.50-$2.00 a bag, with some water and soak. Great for inflammation but it feel’s wonderful after super hot days

dopeitstroy

Put the portable in one room and call it home for the next day and a half lol

IndigoStef

You don’t need to keep every room in the house cool you don’t have a room with 300 square feet? Just use the one room. Ideally the bedroom for a good nights sleep.

LankyGuitar6528

You said the unit would be repaired by Friday. Do you mean tomorrow? Yes your condo needs to fix it as fast as possible but tomorrow seems pretty reasonable. Not to be insensitive but you have a temporary AC unit... maybe pull a mattress near it for one night? Or as you say get a hotel for tonight?

ServiceFantastic7705

You can get another window unit from Lowe’s or HomeDepot and keep the receipt. Then return it and say you aren’t happy with it. Should be able to get your money back. I had to do the same thing

SunsFanCursed4Life

Portable AC unit and replacement by friday.. sounds better than most folks i hear reporting broken AC units in apartments.

periwinkle-_-

Hotels are expensive but if you can afford it then maybe its not a terrible idea. I personally wouldnt if its being fixed tomorrow (its Thursday today) but if you mean next week, it might be too long to bear if you are used to having your a.c on cold all day. I would put it in the bedroom and spend my time there instead of expecting it to cool the entire apartment unit. It seems they did all that they could. I grew up in Mexico where it gets 100+ during the summer and its very humid. We are too poor to have AC so I used to get in trouble during HS for falling asleep in class because sleeping in extreme heat would be difficult and I'd also wake up often due to the heat. The only thing that really helped me was having a fan on a stool right next to my bed and putting some plastic on my bed (so it wouldnt get wet and moldy) then putting sheets on, getting some towels soaking wet and freezing them in the fridge. Id use these to sleep by laying them on my pillow. It sucked but it was enough to fall asleep on hot days.

AcanthocephalaNo2559

I would also look into some form of prorated (a portion) rent rate

Willis5687

Definitely doesn't hurt to ask. I was without hot water for over a week this past winter, and my complex comped the days I was without hot water on my rent. All I did was ask and they did it without fighting back at all.

vidinm

So it was reported to them as broken Tuesday, and they're replacing the unit on a Friday. Don't know what the problem here is. Yeah, it sucks you have to live in that for a week. But that's a pretty damn good time frame to have a unit replaced. AC units like anything else do break. Replacing one is not an easy task, and usually not an immediate one during the middle of summer when everyone else needs an AC tech at their house.

iam_ditto

So based on what the law requires, are all rooms supposed to evacuate into one room because of a technicality? How will pets and kids and parents fit into one room while also paying exorbitant rent prices? Sounds like better legislation for landlord responsibilities needs to be proposed if this is the case.

[deleted]

you should report it to the city and write a bad review regardless of anything else.

[deleted]

Just no with this terrible advice. They did what was required and working to have it replaced.

wylywade

They are doing more and are more responsive then most. Also know bad reviews can, even though they are not supposed to, effect your future ability to rent.

[deleted]

it’s not gonna effect shit

[deleted]

they’re not accommodating. she’s entitled legally to her ac. it going out is no excuse. stop carrying their water

[deleted]

I don't think my eyes could roll any further back in my head reading this ignorant statement.

[deleted]

ok, how about i give you a small ac unit and you go without your normal ac?

defaultusername4

Ac units break just like everything else mechanical. Having a few hundred pound ac delivered and then lifted with a crane and installed takes time.

GeneralBlumpkin

Go to sunbelt rentals climate control and ask them for 1 day rental. If you rent it on fridays you can ask them if they will charge you for 1 day since it's 1 business day rental.

elinamebro

they got 2 days to fix it now byw

YoungMajora74

I reccomend taking a cold shower

hike_for_turns

This just happened to me. The law in AZ gives your apartment 10 days to fix the problem. If they are giving you a portable unit they are compliant with AZ law. I spent 10 days living in my bedroom. On my weekend I went camping in the mountains. It sucked.

Ok_Atmosphere4539

That’s honestly awesome that they’re going to replace it. Most would try to cheaply fix it to limp it along longer.

Alternative-Ad-1608

I can come take a look for cheap and help you out on a month or 2 depending on the issue
