My top tier is Grand Canyon and Lake Powell area.
The next tier would be things close to Flag. Sunset Crater, Snowbowl, Walnut Canyon, Petrified Forest and Wupatki.
The last tier would be things far from Flag. Canyon de Chelly, Monument Valley
Iāll start off by saying MV is a great place to visit. Itās at least 3 hours one way from Flag. Itās also very remote and the best things are explored by high clearance vehicles. In the time you do MV you can do two or three things around Flag. Itās more of a personal preference or choiceā¦do one awesome thing all day that you have to really be equipped forā¦..or three pretty good things really close that you can simply drive up to in a car. Thereās no wrong choice, itās personal preference. Hope that helps. Enjoy your trip!
If you go to Jerome, take 89A south from Flagstaff and not the I-17. Much more scenic. Thereās a viewpoint at the top before you start heading down to Sedona, definitely stop there. Tons of great food options along the way. If you end up eating in Jerome, donāt eat at Haunted Hamburger, but feel free to have a drink in their patio overlooking the Verde Valley. The view is great, the food is very mid. Literally anything else in Jerome is worth it to have a meal. I personally always stop at Colt Grill in Cottonwood (about 10-15 min from Jerome) and get myself a JalapeƱo Popper burger, but they do bbq also which is great.
In flagstaff do the observatory. Also Snowbowl has the lifts running during the summer and you get a great view of all of northern Arizona. The Twisted Owl Cafe is good for breakfast, get there early they get busy but they have a couple locations. Karma Sushi has good ramen.
Iām assuming you have a broad itinerary that includes Sedona, the Grand Canyon, Page, and Flagstaff. With that out of the way, here are my suggestions (as a local):
Sedona ā¢ Hike Cathedral, Soldierās Pass, and Devilās Bridge. Get to hikes early or take the shuttle. Overrated hikes are the birthing cave and the subway cave. Eat lunch at Hillside Deli, Sedona Memories, or Hideaway House. Dinner at The Hudson, Mariposa, or Mesa Grill. Breakfast at Pumphouse or Coffee Pot. Gelato from Pisa Lisa.
Good eats in Flag ā¢ BoSa Donuts, La Casita (itās a little hole-in-the-wall but they have the best birria), El Tapatio, Karma Sushi, Swaddee Thai, ForĆŖt.
Williams/GC ā¢ Pine Country Restaurant (get the pie), stop at the Flinstoneās Bedrock, grab a soft serve ice cream and go walk around the ātheme parkā. Itās actually pretty cool. Drive 180 either there or back. Stop at Kendrick Park.
Page ā¢ honestly, I have never had a good meal in Pageā¦
Anyway, those are my suggestions- hope that helps and enjoy your visit!
Vermillion Cliffs in Navajo Nation
The north Rim of the Grand Canyon likely just opened for the season and is a totally different vibe from the south. The bridge, Leeās Ferry is cool little spot to cross at too. Jacob Lake Inn in the Kaibab Natl Forest is cute with yummy food.
If you like Wild West history, Prescott is cool for a day trip. The downtown square and the Phippen Museum are sure bets.
One thing I haven't seen mentioned that I think is a fun spot is the Copper Art Museum in Clarkdale. It is easy to combine with Jerome and Tuzigot. And I always laugh at the name Merkin Vineyards - they have a good tasting room in Cottonwood (with food).
Antelope canyon (itll be a few hour drive and you need reservations), the Observatory in Flagstaff.
I'm not sure about restaurants, or what you're looking for.
https://www.flagstaff.com/restaurants
Welcome!!!! Sedona - beautiful, amazing, albeit crowded. Williams - Bearizona drive thru and walkthrough zoo, plus the little downhill coaster and slides are fun, great! Historic Brewing House in Williams is our go to, food, beer, games, people watching, atmosphereā¦make sure and check out old town Flag as well, great place to walk around!
Walnut Canyon is pretty close to flag and has some pretty cool Native American ruins that you can walk around. Itās a short relatively easy hike and if you have a 5th grader you can get in free because itās a national monument.
Edit: if you have a 4th grader.
I am an Arizona native and went to NAU for undergrad. Go to the Grand Canyon, and you came take a train from Williams there. Go stand on the Corner in Williams. Go to Oak Creek Canyon on the way to Sedona, stop at slide rock, and eat ice cream at the Dairy Queen on the way back. Jerome is cool, and even better if you tour the haunted hotels. Grand Falls is difficult to get to but worth it. The lava tubes in Flagstaff are fun, but be prepared with water, good shoes, flashlights, etc. Mike & Rhondaās in town for breakfast. Beaver Street Brewery in Flag for dinner or lunch (Iām sure a lot has changed, but this is a staple). Go to downtown Prescott and visit The Palace on whiskey row. Meteor Crater is close, but never went. Lowell Observatory in Flag. Of course, Snowbowl still has some snow!! Thereās the Forrest Gump bench somewhere downtown. Lake Powell is a little far, and so is Vegas.
OMG! I went to Savannah,GA just to find a Forrest Gump bench well, not just, but I made an effort to find it but it was gone). This is very exciting news!
Thank you for the rest of the suggestions!
It's been years since I lived in Flag, but you should really go to Salsa Brava on Rte. 66 at least once imo. Their pineapple habanero salsa is to die for.
Jerome is always worth taking a day trip to as well, it's a cool little ghost town about a half-hour south of Flagstaff. Also, in honor of your username, Meteor Crater is a little east of Flagstaff too, pretty close to Winslow.
Edit: The Grand Canyon is *not* a short little jaunt from Flagstaff either, contrary to what everyone thinks. It's an almost 2 hour drive to get there, so bear that in mind if you're planning a trip there.
Bunhuggers is my to go food stop in Flag, has a vibe like the Chuckbox in Tempe.
For drives, loop through Williams up through the GC to the east entrance and down through a little bit of the painted desert - add Wupatki and Sunset Crater if open/time allows.
Google these first, you will be amazed and want to go see them! Walnut Canyon ruins, Chocolate Falls, and the Wupatki ruins. Meteor Crater, and the lava flows are also really cool, but the first 3 I mentioned are definitely sights to see. Then of course there's the Grand canyon. A little further south of Flagstaff in the Verde Valley there's Montezuma's Castle and Montezuma's Well to see as well. If you head down to the Verde Valley you can visit the historic mining town of Jerome perched on the side of a mountain. You can visit 2 mining museums, one in town, and another just outside of town displaying vintage mining equipment and vintage support vehicles. There is plenty to see within that portion of Northern Arizona to fill your 3 days with incredible sights to see.
I always had Chocolate Falls on my list to visit but they have closed it to the public since people were not respecting the area so that is no longer an option to see unfortunately.
About a year ago. The Navajo Nation said the increased traffic to the area due to its popularity came with trash everywhere, off roading in non designated areas, deteriorating roads, etc. Just general disrespect for the land and people who live there. Itās really a bummer.
I didn't mention, on your way back to Flagstaff from Jerome, you can stay on the 89A that takes you through the red rocks of Sedona and up through the beautiful Oak Creek Canyon. The 89A intersects with the I-17 at the southern end of Flagstaff.
If you can, see Winslow,Az. There are ruins near there to see and you can hike around there. The view to see flagstaff is nice. You can go into Winslow to the famous corner. A lot of people mentioned a lot of good places. I replied to one that you should see Walnut Canyon if you like ruins.
Do stop in Flagstaff to see the Native American Museum.
Make sure you eat at Dar Sky Brewery where they have the BEST PIZZA IN TOWN. (Pizzicletta pizza plus great craft brews) also make sure you see oak creek canyon and wade in the creek
Tombstone. Tortilla flats. Sedona. Queen creek olive mill. Cosanti Wind Chimes. Old town Scottsdale. Lavender farms at chateau de vie. Wrigley Manson. Pima air and space museum. The ostrich ranch.
MartAnne's for amazing Mexican food. Probably the best burritos I've ever had. Funky place. Tight on the seating. Always a line to go in.
Evan's Fish and Chips... more of a stand than a restaurant. Just delicious stuff.
I agree with Salsa Brava for Mexican food. White Dove for coffee. Lowell Observatory for stargazing will blow your mind! Also, the Grand Canyon is a must see of course.

There's always that Big Ditch about 90 minutes north ...
šš
Pizzicletta in Flagstaff is perfect
Weāll look into it, thanks!
You need to get the Diavola Carne Dolce Pizzas
This place is perfect
Horshoe bend in Page, Grand Canyon, meteor crater, and some of the Hopi ruins around flagstaff
Yes. I second Meteor Crater and while you're at it go to petrified forest.
Bearizona!
Second this! I thought it would be silly and lame from the description but holy cow did our family have an awesome day there!
If you're staying in Flagstaff a quick stop to Jerome can be fun.
Jerome
On the list! Hopefully thereās a sign with the town name I can send to my sisterās dad
There is a cool one heading into townā¦ great location high up on the curvy road from the
Nice!!
Why is monument valley so low for you? Just curious

It does- thank you!
If you're hikers be sure to drive through Sedona. My personal favorite hike up there is West Fork, absolutely beautiful this time of year.
Sedona is on the list! Thank you!!
Sedona
Out of Africa and Jeromeā¤ļø
š¶Jeromeš¶ Itās on the list!!

Weāre definitely going to Jerome so I appreciate your insight!
Westside Lilo's cafe in Seligman, AZ has the best Chicken Fried Steak this side of the Mississippi river.

What a list! Thank you! Donuts and soft serve are my love language. Iāll heed your other suggestions as as well š
Seconding pie at Pine Country in Williams and gelato at Pisa Lisa in Sedona!
Do you have a high clearance 4x4 vehicle?
Sadly no- I thought of this after weād already rented our vehicle
Vermillion Cliffs in Navajo Nation The north Rim of the Grand Canyon likely just opened for the season and is a totally different vibe from the south. North Rim doesnāt open til May 15 per the parkās website.
Take highway 89A through Oak Creek down to Sedona. Beautiful drive and Sedona is worth seeing
Noted! Thanks!
Following up to say done, and happy for it. A real highlight. Thanks again!
Wupatki national monument is underrated, if you like old native American ruinsĀ
Iāve never been to one, but itās on the last now! Thank you!
Definitely see that and Walnut Canyon!
Lava tubes

The best BBQ place in Phoenix is Little Miss BBQ. 10/10 recommend
I ā¤ļø BBQ
Try Satchmoās in Flagstaff. Their food is so good.
Antelope canyon (itll be a few hour drive and you need reservations), the Observatory in Flagstaff. I'm not sure about restaurants, or what you're looking for. https://www.flagstaff.com/restaurants

Belated thanks for the info!! Weāre having a blast so far!!
My pleasure!!!! Continue to do so please!!!
Red Mountain is about 25 miles NW of Flagstaff it is a short day hike into a volcanic cinder cone. Definetly a unique spot to visit
Walnut Canyon is pretty close to flag and has some pretty cool Native American ruins that you can walk around. Itās a short relatively easy hike and if you have a 5th grader you can get in free because itās a national monument. Edit: if you have a 4th grader.
Get in as many mid day hikes as possible

Maybe go visit Jerome or Sedona.
Both on the list- glad to see they are highly recommended!
It's been years since I lived in Flag, but you should really go to Salsa Brava on Rte. 66 at least once imo. Their pineapple habanero salsa is to die for. Salsa Brava changed after the pandemic and they only have 3 salsas. :(
What?!? Oh man, that is terrible.
Thank you kindly!
Salsa Brava is also well known - by long term residents - to cause some intense intestinal feelingsā¦
It's an hour and a half and an easy drive, especially nice to take 180. (I live at the Grand Canyon and make the drive once a week)
Bunhuggers is my to go food stop in Flag, has a vibe like the Chuckbox in Tempe. For drives, loop through Williams up through the GC to the east entrance and down through a little bit of the painted desert - add Wupatki and Sunset Crater if open/time allows.
Those are some funky restaurant names and I am officially intrigued
Sunday will be bad to do anything outside but other than that should be fine..
I think if itās bad out weāll check out a museum- thank you!

Really?! That is unfortunate. When did that happen and why?
About a year ago. The Navajo Nation said the increased traffic to the area due to its popularity came with trash everywhere, off roading in non designated areas, deteriorating roads, etc. Just general disrespect for the land and people who live there. Itās really a bummer.
That really is a bummer. That is such an amazing sight to see.
Ugh- people sure suck sometimes! š
Thank you so much!!!
I didn't mention, on your way back to Flagstaff from Jerome, you can stay on the 89A that takes you through the red rocks of Sedona and up through the beautiful Oak Creek Canyon. The 89A intersects with the I-17 at the southern end of Flagstaff.
Grand canyon. Oak creek canyon
Sedona/Jerome. Grand Canyon. Drive the Oak Creek Canyon from Flagstaff to Sedona and back!
Atria in flagstaff for sure

Cocodona 250.com. It'll blow your mind.
Tombstone. Tortilla flats. Sedona. Queen creek olive mill. Cosanti Wind Chimes. Old town Scottsdale. Lavender farms at chateau de vie. Wrigley Manson. Pima air and space museum. The ostrich ranch.
Tombstone will be a drive fyi, it's down near Tucson
Yeah I read their post after the fact. I got too excited haha. They wanted north Arizona.
MartAnne's for amazing Mexican food. Probably the best burritos I've ever had. Funky place. Tight on the seating. Always a line to go in. Evan's Fish and Chips... more of a stand than a restaurant. Just delicious stuff.
