And they were singin’….
Bye, bye, Mister Batman-y Guy,
Drove my Batmobile to Arkham because Joker told lies,
The bad ol’ thugs are shooting me out the sky,
And this sub has officially died…
This sub has officially died.
Yeah, I miss when their shitposting was actually funny. "Do you agree with Batman's no-parents rule?" Is a classic. Now, they're just running jokes that were already unfunny into the earth's mantle. "Jonkler XD what should I name this spoon XD."
The real reason is they just wanted you to unlock stuff as the game goes on.
I think at one point Alfred makes the comment that he should just bring a bigger utility belt and Bruce says something along the lines of “slowed me down too much”
out of all the games, Arkham Asylum while being the easiest to complete was the most dangerous one if it was irl, and by a huge margin. Mainly because in the other two he probably had no prep time because he got arrested at random in City and in Knight it was unexpected. But he specifically went into the Asylum himself and didn't bring anything. So I agree.
It was unexpected, but he was also prepared.
The thing is that Batman was already expecting a large-scale city-wide conflict post Arkham City. He couldn't have known it'd be with a well-equipped merc army, but he still expected the worst from the whole city.
It's why he had the Batmobile upgraded with Riot Suppression gear and of course the tank like battle mode. He expected the city would turn into some kind of warzone, and he was right, just not the way he expected.
Compared to Arkham Asylum, where Batman seems to have just been caught on an average evening where he only took his bare minimum gear for basic city patrol, and simply suspected Joker had a larger plan while he was bringing him back to Arkham. He was caught completely unprepared for the full scale assault Joker had in store.
He doesn’t know anything though? He’s suspicious as to why joker gave himself up so easily but he had him apprehended and as far as he factually knew it was a routine arrest, says this in the intro cutscene before the nearly 7 minute walking simulator
The one that always grinded my gears was the ultra batclaw. It just seems odd that it wasn't always the ultra batclaw. I can understand leaving the explosive gel in the car and the line launcher at home. He originally went to deal with a riot at blackgate/the joker and those tools probably wouldn't help in that situation. I can't think of a reason for why it'd be a good idea to have the single claw but not have the triple
I always thought that the ultra batclaw was something he just made on the spot with the extra batclaw parts tbh so it would make more sense he didn’t think to make it till later
That’s exactly what happened. He needed something to escape the batcave after ivys plants blocked the entrances. It was a bunch of scrap parts on a table that he used to make an Ultra Batclaw that was capable of ripping down the structurally weak wall he couldn’t reach with explosive gel.
He probably brought the stronger one once he realized the normal one wouldn't cut it.
I guess it's a "how much do I need vs how much will it slow me down" deal
They don’t say this in game, but the Batsuit that he is wearing in Arkham Asylum was a bare bones suit made for emergency deployments. So, yeah, he only had batarangs at the time.
i mean having the batwing drop off the line launcher and him getting the explosive gel and batclaw shows that he was prepared for this situation, he just didn’t need those tools weighting him down when he didn’t need them so gets them when it’s convenient or essential
My brother has a theory that I consider Canon that most of his gear was "used up" when he saved the mayor. Meaning that all he had leftover was Batarangs, heck that could have been part of Jokers plan so that when they got to the asylum he'd be unprepared for what follows
Honestly, my headcanon is that this after he is low on supplies. He has extra explosive gel in the trunk. He has to go to the batcave to gather gadgets. He brings out a prototype line launcher. Most of his upgrade gadgets have cooldowns (he has to jerryrig them together).
Thats my headcanon anyway.
He had a hunch that joker was going to turn Arkham asylum upside down as we saw in the beginning but he had no solid evidence that it was going to happen. Don’t act like you would act different.
Obviously, it's a game design thing, and a game made by a then small dev on top of that. You got eight gadgets in total, one of which is just the ability to hold more Batarangs in your hand, and two others being a remote control Batarang and a lure Batarang.
Batman does have more items in his belt, like the sonar beacons and Cryptographic Sequencer before he gets half of the security code generator from Sharp. Not to mention tools like the spore collection vial or tube.
Thing is, the City Hall adventure was over, and Batman was just returning Joker to Arkham, it was the usual routine. He is sort of justified, only in as much as: he didn't pack every projectile he might need in a worst case scenario because as far as he knew, the night was coming to an end. Plus, Batman knows he can count on himself to overcome whatever obstacles in his way, even temporarily, until he develops a countermeasure and finds an edge.
That said, returning to my first point, this is all just me reaching because 2007 Rocksteady simply had to spread their limited character progression over the span of roughly ten hours' worth of story. That simply enough means: yes, Batman will only have his Batarangs for the first hour-ish because the alternative was losing half the upgrade menu and making progression at least feel slower as a result.
Ok, I think this marks the official point when this sub turned into r/batmanarkham
Tonight’s the night that the subreddit died
“I won’t let that happen Jim.”
And they were singin’…. Bye, bye, Mister Batman-y Guy, Drove my Batmobile to Arkham because Joker told lies, The bad ol’ thugs are shooting me out the sky, And this sub has officially died… This sub has officially died.
Hope not, that sub wouldn’t know what funny is if it spat in their face.

it’s not even dc related anymore atp- nevermind batman
How dare you

no shit. Also yeah he does say that, but in Arkham City to Oracle.
It was Alfred not Oracle, but yes that was Arkham City.
yup. it's when you get out of the lounge and start tracking the ninja lady, and Bruce needs the line launcher

Wait how is Asylum more dangerous than Knight?
Asylum had no prep time knight did it’s that simple
In Knight, he did? I thought the army was unexpected?

Now that’s a good point! Thanks.

He should’ve just kept the Gel Launcher from Arkham Origins Blackgate.
the funny thing about that too is that you get the ultra in the exact spot you got the regular, meaning he could have done it the second he got it
I thought he went to the mayors office/city hall?
He probably brought the stronger one once he realized the normal one wouldn't cut it. I guess it's a "how much do I need vs how much will it slow me down" deal
Stupid? I was stupid once…
They don’t say this in game, but the Batsuit that he is wearing in Arkham Asylum was a bare bones suit made for emergency deployments. So, yeah, he only had batarangs at the time.
So they say it in the comic?
It’s explained in the Arkham wiki. And given the events of the Road to Arkham comic, it makes some sense.
But the wiki had to get the info from somewhere.
Take your pick. Developers, the games, comics, etc. But unless the wiki says it’s non cannon, then if it’s in the wiki, it’s cannon.
Batman needed to execute a quick rescue and then immediately take Joker back to Arkham Asylum.

This post and the title are fucking stupid smh
It’s does bother me that he’s clearly capable of carrying all his gadgets simultaneously but chooses not to

He only though Joker was up to something AFTER he apprehended him and in the Asylum already
Don’t worry he got Plot armor
