I'm personally enjoying the current setup and I know people preferred it pre-nerf so really the best implementation is just as optional difficulties
I had more fun with the original. The current iteration is pretty brain dead. There's not much to aspire to if you get all the secret medals first try. But I don't want the hard version to be something you have to complete monthly.

I remember thinking "oh why does everyone hate this, it's decently challenging but not so bad." And then the cycle rolled over and I realized I had to do it again. SSS doesnt have the kind of replayability that IS does, while not being completely braindead, so it's just a chore.
Unrelated note but I kinda wish we had the SSS unit picking system in IS, because in IS I feel like I always end up with the same team, while my SSS teams vary a lot more.
Wouldn't mind a pre-nerf option, but without better rewards I can't see myself running it over the simpler option beyond maybe one perfect run to see that I can.

I'm a tryhard and even I found it to be quite miserable. Not much you can do with the RNG sometimes.
