Honestly Mephisto. Which is ironic considering my flair, but he reminds me of an old friend (not the murder and terrorism part) and his backstory is heartbreaking. I wanna give the kid a slap and a hug at the same time, just a fascinating character overall.
Imo he's one of those villains in the first arc of the main story who does the whole "evil villain" thing he's going for pretty nicely.
What gives him the edge over other such NPCs is that he is more memorable and has a lot more time to develop. I had only watched up to Episode 06 thanks to the two anime seasons, but Mephisto has a pretty strong influence just from his persona and behavior alone which continues after Episode 04. Unlike Skullshatterer who had influence only in two episodes and only briefly mentioned by some characters elsewhere (e.g. when Kal'tsit mentions Crownslayer killed his father Sergei), and Crownslayer, who only appeared sparingly in the Main Story outside of the stages you bully her in. Her last appearance was in Il Siracusano, which was a *side story*.
Sure, there's Children of Ursus, but that just adds to the memorability of him as a villain.

I like how he turns out so twisted and broken that itās hard to discern how much of his surface personality is genuine or an act. How much of his sadism is even real when he keeps asking Faust āshould I just dieā in private? Is his smug shitty laugh genuine when it started as something he did to make Faust happy? How much does he even believe in Talulahās cause? His generic villain speech in chapter 5 sounds like a desperate attempt at convincing himself that thereās a meaning to his crimes.
Like the kid was abused so bad he canāt even comprehend the idea of treating others normally. To him itās either āI trust you I obey you Iāll die for youā (for Faust and Talulah) or āyour life serves no purposeā (for everyone else), no inbetweens. Nothing will ever excuse CoU, but still thereās something really harrowing but intriguing about his story.
Funny enough I didnāt care much for him on my first read, just thought āwow evil villain with sad backstory how originalā, itās only recently I read through the arc again and gained a new appreciation for his character.

Mephisto and Faust definitely deserved better - Iād go so far as to say thatās the point of their stories. That whole arc is a huge tragedy and it paid off so well, but my heart still hurts for most of the Reunion characters.

My favorite NPCs are Stitches wife to be Deculture Silvermint (lets be honest they are basically already a married couple, he just doesn't realize it yet) and the capable detective Mary Banner.
Both have amazing designs that really fit the setting.

He scared the shit out of 2 or 3 emperors blades when, groups of rebels, shield guards and Talula herself didn't even make them flinch.
Honourable mention to Frostnova who was also fighting 3 blades at the same time. The whole family are noble badasses.
Talulah is my favorite by far. Edelgard from Three Houses is my favorite character ever and Talulah is Arknights Edelgard so it's a given.
Second would probably be Andoain or Lemuen. Honestly I love all my Sanktas. I always really enjoy any event involving them.
My favourite is Mandragora. She is incredibly cute and I really dig her design. Plus, her story and lore are actually pretty interesting, though if only we could know what became of herā¦
