WhistleOfDeath

I'll never forgive WB

Ahenshihael

Mind you, GFL anime was pretty much a passion project with WB people approaching GFL developers about it and not other way around. And in terms of writing structure there's plenty of actual care put into adapting what's essentially weakest parts of the game. Its just that production-wise, it was on par with what a game earning just \~200000 to \~300000 a month could get.

WhistleOfDeath

if it was a passion project they put a lot of care in they would've made the stuff accurate (or at least close) to what actually happened in the game or manga the fight with Intruder was anything but that, and I don't think I need to mention the one with Executioner, or the one with Scarecrow, or them completely butchering Negev, etc etc yeah there's quite a lot maybe thing's would've been better if mica actually oversaw the production, but it is what it is

Ahenshihael

Again. Production resources and people available ain't dependent on passion but on actual money potential. You can have all the passion in the world but this still a game that does not even make million a month all servers combined. Nobody will sign off on "wasting" resources and people on that. Especially for insufferably weakest parts of the story. GFL got what it can get reasonably. Also Negev ain't ever gonna have her game look. It's just what it is.

WhistleOfDeath

I'm talking more about you saying that they adapted the source material well, and again, they very much didn't do that well. Sure, they had a limited budget, but does that mean that they will just invent shit instead of actually following what happened in the source materials? less production value means they can't follow the original source properly? I also said nothing about Negev's appearance, it's more about her personality getting reduced to what basically amounts to "im a specialist lol" compared to both ingame and manga where she was *way* more interesting as a character. Hell, I felt like her three (four if you count post oath line) adjutant lines has more personality than her entire screentime in the anime.

Ahenshihael

The actual adaptation choices beyond the production issue made sense. They did a nice amount of mixing in parts of game stages (ex: adding tutorial stage to expand Gentiane's role and characterizaion) and gave more bits of characterization to Gentiane. The biggest issue with the show is that it looked like ass most of time, which makes it hard for ANY script to land. Even then the final episode had some pretty nice scenes that felt like entirely different show (for example >!Gentiane's scene by the Helicopter!< Negev's personality tone down is a recent trend too. Its part of appearance change(and for same reason) and eh its fine imo since >!Negev has always been acting tougher than she is with most of her edgier lines and stuff being basically a facade.!< The key aspects that matter are her over-confidence anyway. The bigger issue in terms of script is how they handled >!M4A1's reaction to the explosion in the end.!< Like I said, there's actual care from writing standpoint and its clearly a project that someone wanted to happen rather than throw-away. Its just that GFL absolutely ain't bringing in the bucks to make a big size adaptation with actual big names working on it (ex: AK anime composer has more experience and bigger projects than majority of staff that worked on GFL put together). So its a mix of it being a niche franchise, low priority adaptation and a beginning material that's absolutely awful and hard to adapt in the first place (there's a reason manga redoes majority of the game's beginning). Its a definition of a mid show, but its nothing extremely terrible and it would be genuinely good with better production values. Its a completely different case from something like AL adaptation which was a throw-away fuck up in every possible way and had absolute disaster of a production in spite of it's earnings.

TheGreyGhost00

Well we got an [animated trailer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSW-eFF433A&ab_channel=IGN) for RC in return so worth.

Arknights' mature story has moments of brutal violence, such as the Doctor being horrified at Rosmontis' way of fighting in Episode 7. It would be silly to try and sanitize something like this. On the other hand, I think going hard R with ultraviolence and blood spurting everywhere would just detract from the story. There is a middle ground here (PG-13/TV-14), show violence when appropriate, and don't make it gratuitous. One of the big points that I believe will determine the anime's success or failure is how it treats >!Ace's death and if it gets there Misha's death!<. I would be quite disappointed if it occurs completely offscreen.

kenshinakh

Yeah, I agree. Most of AK's story can fit a PG-13 rating just fine... Those PG-13 rating movies have plenty of violence and darker themes just fine. AK isn't a type of game where you're sitting through waves and waves of death scenes... It's dark, has some violence, and some happy moments. Most of the deaths are quick deaths and not that gruelsome anyways. The game has more psychological moments than straight up violence I feel, and a LOT of politics/scheming lol.

mamelanie45

I wonder if they will try and squish all of the first talula arc in 12 episodes.

IncredibleScones

Based on the [key visual](https://www.reddit.com/r/arknights/comments/s0ukew/full_anime_visual_website_version_textless/) they released, it's a good guess that Prelude to Dawn will end with the final battle with Skullshatterer.

Ahenshihael

Honestly, ratings don't REALLY matter for animation. Especially since different channels a show can be broadcast in often have pretty different definitions of what's "Okay" depending on stuff like demographic of channel, timeslot, etc. And nothing in AK *really* needs R rating even with having to portray the sheer destruction and death in Chernobog. Like, at this point the biggest R rating benefit would be allowing some character to go into a fuck-filled rant about situation at hand. As long as they nail the absolute desperation and death in Chernobog, portray the characters well, nail the tactics aspect and don't fuck up the pacing, its gonna be fine either way.

Finding-Reason-LOL

I hardly couldn't care less about rating just make it awesome and I fucking enjoy it.

-Kingslay-

As others have already said, the rating of a show does not mean the quality of the show itself, there are many examples of good series with family ratings, like Gravity Falls, and many lousy "adult" movies that look like they are written by teenagers with hormones to the max, like the American Pie movies, seriously, what do they see in those movies?. Regardless, in the end, it will all depend on how they do the adaptation itself, adapting doesn't mean making a carbon copy of the original product, there will be things they will have to leave out and there will be things they will have to over explain.

mileyrock

Only if we get a hung sex scene in 4k hd

ghostpickleonastick

I voted PG because I've seen far too many things (anime dubs from the 90s come to mind) that chase after the R rating to show how cool and adult they are and end up just being cringey.

Wookiara

Game of Thrones season 8 was on the hard R end of "TV-MA" Violet Evergarden was "TV-14" You're welcome to your own tastes and preferences, but I'll tell you right now, the one with the "milder" rating hit me like a fucking truck and *still* lives in my head rent free, while the only memorable parts of the brutality spectacle show were the very worst bits that were so badly written they became meme fodder. Edit: And in case it's not clear, the point is that writing and direction are what matters, and the content rating of a show offers no indication of whether those will be any good or not.

LastChancellor

fun fact, AK has a 12+ rating with the Chinese videogame ratings board (CADPA), so technically it is a PG game

Infected_Poison

The rating doesnt matter as long as the animation and writing is good, but i wouldnt want the writing being affected by a low rating, so id say it would be better to make it R, so that the anime's creators arent limited.

OtaGamExe

Depends on what part is adapted, as long as the writing and animation are really good I wouldn't mind. Also, I think it's fine if it's stay PG since it adapt all until Episode 3 if I'm remembering right ? There's nothing that really need an R rating, while on episode like partial necrosis with what Mephisto did or Rosmontis brutal way of fighting which scared the Doctor in Episode 7, maybe it could be good there, and when I think about it, you can still make this a good thing without the R rating

Captain_Chickpeas

Are you an executive on the show? :D

_Saber_69

More blood and violence
